It’s not to say we’re against increasing ele conjured weapon potential in the future.
Interesting statement :P
I imagine that once ascended equipment becomes the norm they will. As it is most people don’t have a single ascended weapon yet.
Many people can solo most of the 5 man dungeons. I’ve already stated that I do not run 5 man dungeons. I don’t understand your point.
SAB is not a five man dungeon. It’s not a dungeon. There are no elites, no big boss fights, nothing like that it’s just a simple platformer that completely replaces the skill, health and other mechanics for the game. There is absolutely no reason why you need more players, in fact I’d imagine they’d be an annoyance rather than a help.
SAB seems to use GW2 dungeon technology but is not itself a 5-man dungeon, I suspect that the ‘suggested: 5 players’ tag is simply a hold over from that. Regardless if you choose to skip the content because of that without even trying it then that’s fine.
However, it takes pedantry to a whole new level. It’s like refusing to walk out an “exit” because it was mistakenly marked as an “entrance” or use an obviously working elevator because it was marked as “out of order”.
SAB Skins. Weekend players need not apply?
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School
Posted by: Pifil.5193
Time gating should’ve never been brought into the Super Adventure Box, or anywhere in this game, but here we are… looks like I’ll have to buy the skins I want this time.
That’s what I’m planning. A pity as I was looking forward to getting them myself. I don’t understand why they felt the need to limit the farming further. I can’t afford the time to run SAB every day as it is but I’m hoping to maybe be able to get a Hammer skin through playing but either way I’ll have to get the rest through the TP.
I suppose it’s another part of their plan to force people to have to play the game every day or else “lose out”.
This need they have to control how people are allowed to participate in content so tightly rather than just letting us do what we want how we want to is very sad. The skins were/are account bound so this affected no-one else (if they wanted to they could have restricted the chance to get the saleable skins to one a day per account) so why do this?
Every time they reduce or constrain our ability to do what we want to just sucks a little more joy out of the game.
In my eyes it does not warrant for a Living story content update and for that amount of achievement points it is a bit wrong on that level as it’s not Story based as fa r as I’ve heard atm. I hope this stuff never comes again OR if it does make it a smaller one of thing people can casually go do for small rewards what are Acc bound minus achievement points matching the nearly half a thousand of Aps.worth ;(
I don’t understand why people care so much about other people’s achievement points. Stop trying to turn achievement points into a competition and you’ll enjoy everything a bit more.
Anyway, it will be back, probably twice more in 2014 until all 4 worlds are completed and then probably every April and September after that and I’m glad for that.
World 1+2 yield 12 BB, +standard baubles to convert. You can get the skin you want in the horrifying long time of 4 days. Overreacting, much?
Skins. Not skin. Skins means more than one. The s on the end makes it a plural. Unable to read, much?
How tedious. I guess they don’t want people to be able to get the skins they want then.
I have two legendaries, enough mystic clovers for another, and 2.7 million karma. I suggest that the karma mechanic was completely out of whack in the first place.
That may be the case (I have 2.8 million karma myself) but this just nerfs the rate at which Karma is earned, not the amount of karma already earned. I was expecting at most a 50% reduction, instead we got a 90%+ reduction.
I consider that far too harsh considering the price of useful karma items.
When it exploded, I was doing some late Personal Story. Luckily, Trahearne was there to rescue me. Wait…
This won’t end well.
I have played literally 30 mins after the launch of the update. My magic find is at 30%, and I’m not trying. 300 will be nothing. Please play a bit.
When you do start trying you’ll realise that the cost ramps up very quickly, according to people who have done the maths getting 300% requires about 4.2 million luck.
Yeah, I was surprised to see this.
“Daily and monthly achievement rewards now include Essence of Luck. To offset this, the amount of karma earned from daily and monthly achievements has been reduced.”
It’s 600 now. Down from about 8000 (with karma buffs, in the old system). It’s radically reduced when you consider that they’ve replaced a lot of the sources of karma in the game with crafting gear.
It would have been better if they changed it so that karma boosts no longer affected the amount of karma gained from consumable items and left the karma rewards from the various sources as they were.
At a stroke they’ve reduced karma gain in the game by, what, 90%?

After investigation by our programmers, they have determined that the fix to this issue would be too risky and could end up making the situation worse than it is. Unfortunately, this means that we’re not able to make changes to correct the issue. We’re sorry about this and we will be implementing ways to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future.
So your update wiped the monthly progress on those events while leaving Queens Jubilee events in the dailies? Sloppy, slipshod work Anet.
Nice spoilers. I’m sure most people will be able to figure it out themselves.
I love how people are assuming they’ll be able to get 300% mf instantly, when it’ll require 50,000 item salavges
Really? Who’s assuming that?
I think we’ll have to get our mf to 300% through the new system to have a “decent” chance at these kind of drops.
I gave up at 10/13, I have done them all start to end but I don’t know which hasn’t counted and I’m kitten ed if I’ll waste any more time on this nonsense. This should have been a meta achievement for 13 individual achievements, one per zone (like they did with the kite baskets). That way you would know the ones that haven’t counted.
I just tried the Liadri fight about 10 times, I think that half the time I was killed by the camera and a couple of times I couldn’t see the circles on the floor. If they removed the dome and had a solid grey floor I’d be a lot happier (I’d probably have got her a couple of times too).
Instead of playing the victim and acting like they are entitled to this achievement, they could organize to get it done.
The pavilion is still there, instead of waiting until someone hands you the achievement by getting players together to clear a few of the bosses, why not try being the player that gets people together? Too much effort and uncertainty?
From what I’ve seen no one is interested in the pavilion bosses any more, the only people there now are running the gauntlet, the invasions are far more profitable than killing two bosses every 10 minutes.
The fundamental problem is that the daily achievement is currently bugged. Instead of blaming the OP for not using his mind control powers to convince other players to switch to less profitable activities you could acknowledge that.
I think there should be a systemic mechanic that recognizes and rewards the coordinating guild somehow.
They’ll get influence for participating in the event, the more people that do the more influence they’ll earn. They could give guild merits too I suppose.
And I don’t think that everyone who just comes along to participate should be entitled to the same chance at the same rewards.
Why not? Because they’re not in the same guild as the guy wearing a commander tag and telling people to do what they were going to do anyway?
PVE in GW2 is not that complex, this new fight is no exception, after one or two tries it’ll be pretty obvious what needs to be done during the stages and any individual who looks around, reacts to changing circumstances and moves to fill a needed role is just as deserving of rewards as a footsoldier from some guild who follows orders.
Excuse me, but how and where do you view this stuff?
The stream is on, they’re taking a break for a bit
They’re on break now, returning in just over 30 minutes with an “exciting announcement.” So we haven’t seen all the reveals.
So if Tequatl wasn’t the big reveal then this could get good! (New boss fight mechanics are good just not very exciting stuff)
There appeared to be a whole mess of achievements for that update. I’d be honestly surprised if they were all focused on one group event.
I believe those achievements were specific to the Tequatl fight, I imagine the other revamped bosses will have similar lists when they get round to them.
Yes I am. They didn’t even bring it to less than 60% of his life and we know there’s different phases based on percentage of HP.
Even if it ends up dying easily, from what I see it’s still ten times better than what it used to be. But again, I’ll have to fight it before judging.
Are those people even using the classes and builds that they normally do?
new content is old content
)))))))))))))))
so reworks in gw2 make for new content, noted
Yeah, someone explain that changing something doesn’t make it new.
What are the rewards? Still the same guaranteed rare and a “chance” at some unique ascended skin/mini?
Why would people do this over, for example, Maw?

Another thing is – you can return to the process very fast and continue to test new ideas. Please, don’t tell me we still need to see all those dialogs and cut scenes with coins, princess etc which we can’t skip every time.
That is a very good point, even if there’s a load screen between death and retrying it can just push these over the edge from frustrating-but-challenging-so-I’ll-go-again to frustrating-and-wasting-my-time.
Yes, raging is part of the process. In fact, I rage at myself when I play TM all the time! And the thing about how it is unfair: yes, it is. However there is a deep satisfaction to be had in overcoming in an unfair fight.
I play Guild Wars 2 to have fun and enjoy. Not to rage.
Then don’t play TM. Not everything is made for you.
I know that I probably won’t play TM much because those kinds of games are a bit too punishing for me, but I’ll give it a shot and I’m completely fine with it if I get my butt kicked now that I know it’ll be back again.
Not having the “do it now because it’ll never be back” time pressure makes it fun again for me and not a chore with a deadline!
Oh and thanks, Josh, for the opportunity to get my pistol and dagger skins, I think blue will be fine, for this time at least.

There’s still things wrong with the Zephyrites, and you’re still not answering everything. For example, there is a child that is making a big deal out of seeing a charr, but there is also an adult Zephyrite somewhere I heard making a big deal out of not knowing what a Sylvari was.
I don’t know about the rest of your post but I remember the human child had never seen a charr which is hardly surprising, for one thing he’s a child so he hasn’t seen a lot of things and up until the last couple of years or so humans wouldn’t have been mixing with charr much at all outside Lions Arch and battlefields I suppose.
I’m also not surprised that the adult Zephyrite wasn’t too familiar with the Sylvari either, their entire race is 25 or so years old and they were kinda rare up until recently.
It’s hard to believe that it takes more effort to add Valkyrie/Carrion gear that don’t even require an ingame 3D model when they’re releasing a whole line of ascended weapons in a couple of days.
It doesn’t, it’s pretty trivial and one person (two if they wanted new icons) could probably do do it in an afternoon if they wanted to.
My life for Black Citadel!
this video will be deleted soon (it’s an advertisement for his stream) but it mentions both ptr and charged skills
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94kZCz8elhU&feature=em-uploademail-smbtn
i want to know more as well
It’s an obvious animation bug there is no PTR, I assume he’s joking.
I don’t know about this. Maybe I just don’t understand this concept of impacting the world. If it means to make some sort of difference, then I would have to say I don’t think I have done that in GW2. All the events just keep repeating, everyone is standing in the same place as before, Orr is still crawling with undead even though we defeated Zhaitan. There’s a village of Hylek that I have saved so many times from the krait, but everytime I go back it’s been taken over again.
I have to agree. They’ve tried to say that quests are somehow limiting a few times but they’re not, they way some quests were implemented in some games is limiting quests as a mechanism to guide and track progress through the game is not. In GW2 we’re not changing the world at all, in fact with quests in, for example, WoW your progress changes the world far more through phasing than the personal story/personal quest does in GW2.
Also they didn’t even get rid of quests. They just try to hide the few quests they have either in the Personal Story, Heart Tasks or behind a Living Story achievement checklist like, for example, Emissary Vorpp’s tasks in the current Living Story.
How is the linear path you take for Vorpp through the Living Story system different from a the linear path you take through a more traditional quest? I mean other than the fact that your progress is tracked through the achievement system rather than in a quest log?
I think that at some stage someone realised that they’d never be able to compete in terms of sheer numbers of quests with WoW so they tried to make quests the “bad guy”. Having quests in the game doesn’t mean that everything has to start or end at a guy with an icon over his head they can just be a nice addition to the game.

- Level cap hasn’t been raised, but crafting will be raised to 500 on Tuesday.
Yes, but only for Weaponsmith, Huntsman and Artificer.
Armoursmith, Tailor, Leatherworker, Cook and Jeweller will remain at 400 for now.
It’s really difficult to come up with names and icons for ascended items, first you have to go back to GW1 lore and find a character or group that isn’t used yet and create the “Amulet/Ring/Earring/Toothbrush of <character or group>” then you have to get an icon, set the stats to be the right ones and add them to the various vendors tables you have to do that three times for Offensive, Defensive and Utility slots (which is a dumb and unnecessary distinction, just have one Infusion slot you can put any Offensive, Defensive or Utility Infusion into, that way you only need one amulet and two rings/accessories for each stat combo).
I don’t think we’ll see these now, these combos will be player crafted in a month or two.
They are “dragging their feet” on this issue, because the very idea behind ascended eq is dragging their feet. It’s a stopgap content that is needed to pad the one year gap that was created by this game shipping much too early.
Exactly, GW2 (and most MMOs) are designed to drag out content to keep people logging in and playing, it’s just the way it works.
Not large scale raids even 10man would be fine. Thanks
When they add “raids” (whenever that will be, no doubt they’re still discussing them) then it shouldn’t be capped at a particular number of people, you can have a minimum of 5 people, but a raid should be able to scale to have all your guild in it.
Doing that without turning it into a champion farm would be best.
I’m looking forward to getting two pistol and two dagger skins from the SAB. My Asuran will be teh bezt rouge!
Don’t me wrong the guys with 100% exploration should be able to go to those area’s in these event if they wish but the events should also include at least 1 commonly unlocked area.
What do you think?
I think these are commonly unlocked areas now. The game has been out a year so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect people to have been around the game world by now. Sure, not everyone will be able to participate (at any time there are some people who have only just bought the game, for example) but so long as you’ve been to the zones (and are a suitable level) you can participate in them, it just might take you longer to get to some events in some zones.
Just get to each zone and grab a few waypoints in each, you don’t need 100% world completion for this event and the rewards are worth it (it’ll help for future events too).
I think anet just forgot how to write lore. And Is going down the blizzard path.
Actually, I think Blizzard are doing a lot better at telling actual stories, recently. With the Living World ArenaNet have given a backdrop, a setting for a story, but aren’t actually telling a story.
Another question: For those that aren’t receiving credit, did you disconnect or swap characters during the event?
The only “swapping” I’ve done is waypointing within the map… could that be causing it somehow?
I wonder, if the system checking if you’re in the zone and eligible for credit considers you “on” the map when you’re waypointing or is it when you’re on the loading screen you’re considered “between” zones?
(edited by Pifil.5193)
I think Faren’s speedo would make a great microtransaction item.
Just kidding. (Or am I?)
Speedos: putting the “micro” into “microtransaction”.
I had the same problem last night on Ring of Fire EU. Get it together ArenaNet or this free weekend is going to drive more people away than it attracts in.
I like how ArenaNet will make Kryta “burn” on my birthday. Or should I say Scarlet? Yes I like Scarlet, very kind of her to make my birthday special <3
After reading your post I realised that there’ll be an update on my birthday too in the future!
You’re very kind ArenaNet!
Ok that’s my point. They can’t, and shouldn’t. So why is that all I see in every zone? Balloons that take me to the human city. An event about the Queen and her new fancy Arena, and now the new event I get to hear that Queen make a speech.
Neat-o.
Just don’t show up if you feel so inclined. Just like you can choose to run past a house on fire in a Dynamic Event because, “hey, it’s just humans in trouble and I’m a charr”.
“Personally” speaking, my Asuran character is more than intrigued to see this spectacle take place, as an insight into human behaviour and from an anthropology standpoint alone it’s quite fascinating, imagine allowing someone to rule you just because their parents ruled you? Amazing!
Hold on, I thought people were complaining because the 2 week updates were too much, too soon. Now people are complaining because this update isn’t big enough. I wouldn’t blame Anet if they didn’t pay attention to this forum.
Don’t worry, I’m quite sure that ArenaNet understand that those complaints come from two different sets of people and that different people want different things even if you don’t.
Anyway, the point is that this is the big 1st birthday celebration and it seems a little light on the surface. Now, I’m sure that there’s more hidden behind that big surprise.
The Queen’s Speech – Begins August 20
Don’t miss history in the making as Queen Jennah wraps up her gala Jubilee with a momentous speech to her loyal subjects and visitors. Starting August 20, be sure to visit Divinity’s Reach and hear what the Queen has to say!
So is that going to be a one time thing? Or something we can only visit once (if we can’t make it on the 20th)?
The fact that they say “Starting August 20, be sure to visit Divinity’s Reach and hear what the Queen has to say!” makes me think it’s not just on the 20th.
It encourages you to make new characters
So… what’ll I do with my 9 scrolls of experience in a month’s time? Make 9 new characters? It’d be nice if there was a use for these on an existing character.
Wait what? it levels up someone from level 1 to 20?…which you get on a 1 year birthday gift…to a character that’s probably level 80…
Wouldn’t it just make MORE sense to just ADD 20 levels no matter the level you are? So if your 80 you get 20 skill points. If your not it should add 20 levels to that level 50 you have sitting on the backburner…
That would be brilliant! An account bound scroll that adds 20 levels to character that uses it. I could use the ones I get to level a couple of my lower level characters to 80.
I’d love those! Sadly, the level up to 20 thing isn’t quite so good for me, I created 8 characters shortly after launch and levelled all of them to about 20 before picking the ones I enjoyed the most and levelling them further.
Got to say I’m a bit disappointed by the anniversary gifts. 1 Queen Jenna mini is ok but what the heck am I going to do with 8 of the same one? I’m guessing they will probably be account bound so we can’t sell them and/or throw in the forge like the 19 Risen priests of Balthazar minis I have wasting away in storage.
Then we get a 24 hour birthday booster and an experience scroll. A lot of people have all or most characters to level 80 already so what good are these going to do?
Yeah, I believe I’m going to get about 8 of these mini’s, scrolls and boosts in the next month. I would have preferred 1 Queen Jenna mini for my account and 7 random minis.
About the scrolls, it’s odd giving a gift that can’t be used on the character that receives it (assuming it’s over level 20) but maybe there’ll be a Mystic Forge recipe to convert them to 10-20 Skill Points or Laurels or something?
Edit: or better as zityz.6089 said in this post why not just let them add 20 levels to the character that uses them?
I would have preferred 1 Queen Jenna mini for my account and 7 random minis.
(edited by Pifil.5193)
Also it would be interesting if the Queen is fake.
I suspect that to be the case… kidnapped, err, reginapped and missing!
They didn’t really tell us much. Just that there is going to be a speech (most likely an instance) and a surprise (which could range anywhere from a new dragon hunt, a new mini dungeon, finally breaking the sea blockade of Zhiatan and going to Cantha, or opening the door to the Elonia desert, or we all get a cupcake)
My money is on the cupcake.
Not getting much of a sense of an epic birthday celebration here but I look forward to when I’m proven wrong.
) if you’ve been constantly sending gold to one other account that’s most likely registered at the same address and possibly even registered to someone with the same surname then I wouldn’t worry I’m sure that kind of pattern will be recognised as being legitimate both by automated systems and by real people.
