Legendary Wyvern Mount?!

No, I don’t think so, having actual flying mounts breaks the game, people skip content, get to places they shouldn’t and so on. Not to mention the bouncing off invisible walls and the sheer screen space being taken up.

Perhaps flying mounts for some events, but they’re a bad idea for a game.

1st map- Crystal Oasis is as big as the whole Orr

I don’t think it’s even close. The demo area we were given was almost two thirds of the entire map, given that and assuming it’s to the same scale on the world map it looks about one and a half times the size of Queensdale or Mount Maelstrom.

And as others have pointed out, simply having twice as much space between things is meaningless if there isn’t more content, especially as we’re going to be travelling twice as fast.

Anyway, what I’m doing in the run up is to release is WvW and running through LS3 again to finish the achievements for the Legendary Trinket. I doubt I’m going to make it anytime soon but having the achievement requirements completed would be good.

Scourge description on Sand Shade question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pifil.5193

Hi, I noticed that there is a possibly misleading description on Sand Shades at least on the wiki:

- Manifest Sand Shade says in its description:
– Number of Targets: 5, Radius: 180

then the Scourge trait Sand Savant says:
– You can summon only one shade at a time. This greater shade has reduced recharge. You affect more targets and influence a larger area with Shade skills.:
– Increased Targets: 5
– Radius Increased: 120

Does this means, that there are now 10 targets and a radius of 300 is in place? Or is the new parameter even reduced to 120 Radius with no change on targets?

Yes, it means 10 targets with a radius of 300, I watched WoodenPotatoes video on Scourge he demonstrated it there.

I’ve linked the video here he talks about that trait about 33 minutes in.

We would like Marionette back

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pifil.5193

In the beginning the Marionette fight was awesome. Toward the end, when the players that new the fight had moved on mostly and had gotten the achievements, it wasn’t as awesome. As much as I enjoyed the fight the first time, it doesn’t belong in the game now.

One of the main reasons the fight was popular was the farming the lanes during the defense phase, which dropped random “key” pieces you could use the open the chests in Scarlet’s lair. Without that, it wouldn’t have been nearly as popular.

Those rewards have long be superceded by other rewards in the game.

It was a good fight. But I don’t believe bringing it back would make the game better long term.

Same can be said about any other world boss. Shatterer, Tequatl, Karka Queen, basically all the lesser world bosses.

You can easily add the marionette to the list there with no negative impact. Does it add much? Eh I dunno. It was better equipped to handle a zerg than most worldbosses at least.

I’d like to see Marionette come back as another Tequatl/Triple Trouble level world boss. It was a good fight.

They would need to change the stage where 5 groups of 5 are chosen to fight the champions and sever the chains. It’s not good for large scale event like this to be able to fail because of the actions (or inaction) of very few. They could just allow people to join the other platforms after they kill their own champion. As a champ dies it could create portals or teleporters that lead to the remaining platforms.

Anyway, I really don’t see it happening. They’re pretty focused on the new stuff and not on adding the old stuff back. Adding new stuff is probably better for the game.

It costs 3600 to do a race change now.
extra slot 800
Insta 80 2000
Name change 800

Why on earth would they sell something that is guaranteed to be a huge headache lasting many years for 1200 gems?

That’s not a race change, it’s nothing like a race change.

You can have a “race change” for free now but your progress is wiped and your new character is 0 days old.

1) Delete the old character.
2) Create the new character.
3) Optionally use tomes/experience scrolls/“instant level 80” to level to 80.

You certainly don’t need the extra character slot or name change contract. You’re deleting the old character and then recreating it so the old name is free to be reused (and the old name possibly won’t suit the new race).

The point of a race change option would be that it keeps parts of your character intact such as your character birth date, map completion, inventory and as much of your story journal as possible (the original Personal Story would have to be reset somehow but progress from LS2 onwards could be maintained).

Yeah I think emote is the wrong term really, I think the OP is referring to a /afk command. Generally in MMOs an AFK command will put a visible flag on your character (often just adding AFK to your nameplate) and the game will auto reply to anyone whispering to you telling the person that you’re away from keyboard.

The auto reply is generally the most important part, but if you see someone standing still with AFK over their head you won’t whisper them at all.

I think it’s a bit silly that there isn’t a working /afk emote. You can change your status to away in the Contacts and LFG screen, there’s a drop down menu next to your name there, but I don’t believe it means that the game replies to whispers with a “playername.1234 is away at the moment” message it only affects your status when people are looking at the guild window or friends lists.

I don’t see where I’m stretching Colin’s post in any way. I’m just stating what it literally says.
You’re right that he wrote this particular item shouldn’t come back. But he never said it wouldn’t.
Huge difference there.
All he said was, it’s not intended to come back. Which is by nature a very stretchable phrase, and probably intentionally used in this case.

I also don’t own a jetpack, nor do I have any desire for it, I’m just looking at this case from a 100% neutral point of view. which is: neither Colin, nor anyone else from ANet, promised anyone those items wouldn’t come back.

For those players who bet on the jetpack not coming back, it’s a stab in the back, no doubt.
Colin’s post is definitely phrased in a way that suggests the item not coming back, but – as I said – stating that anyone promised, or “explicitly told”, the players the Jetpack won’t come back is a false statement.

Oh fair enough, I take your point completely, nothing was promised here.

It’ll affect a lot of the markets for things like Deldrimor Steel and so on. At the moment your daily Mithrilium can be converted to a Deldrimor Steel Ingot and sold for 7g 16s – 7g 95s for a profit of about 2g 38s.

If there wasn’t a daily limit and you could craft as much Mithrilium as you want then that profit margin would rapidly drop to almost nothing. So the time gating is worth 2g 38s.

I think that’s a bit of a semantic stretch, Hyrai.

If you take those two statements at face value then it’s quite clear that Colin was saying these items wouldn’t and shouldn’t come back. That’s particularly important because, well, they came back and they’re now no longer a “limited reward” and when they brought them back that "suddenly undercut their value entirely.”

I just want to state that I have no jetpack and no interest (financially or otherwise) in getting a jetpack at all (I think they look horrible). You can argue that that is or isn’t relevant in this post-Colin world and I personally don’t care if they did or didn’t “pinky swear” about this but they have gone back on this statement.

Edit: both my English and typing ability are getting worse and worse.

If anything I would have expected this backpack to have a chance to drop from the Molten Boss Fractal (as it originally dropped from one of those two bosses) but these kind of loot boxes are popular these days. Especially popular with the companies selling them.

I wonder though, will we get Season 1 Halloween Memory Boxes with say Ghastly Grinning Shields in them?

What if a core trait line...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pifil.5193

What if a core trait line became an elite too.

For example the lines that was the primary trait line before specializations came in to place.

Warrior – discapline
Thief – trickery
Ele – arcane

Would that create build diversity or ruin it more?

This would basically be adding another restriction on the options you have when making builds so I think it would harm build diversity. Those traitlines are mostly there to buff the class mechanics and those class mechanics are often just as important to the elite specs as they are to the base class.

A quick look at metabattle also shows that this change would “break” most of the Daredevil elite spec builds, a few Berserker builds and hardly any Tempest builds so there’s also the fact that the three lines you mention are not exactly equal in terms of their usefulness.

We’re not going to get away from the fact that there will always be a “meta build” that’s considered the “best” option for any given content.

  • At best, your change would just change the traits in the “meta build” and those “meta builds” would probably be worse than they are now.
  • At worst, some professions would no longer have a “meta build” that’s considered viable for specific types of content.

Wait, there is no raid story mode?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pifil.5193

Pifil.5193

Because in GW2 raids are not the end goal that every one will need to pursue.

Edit:And generally more resources to actually implement it due to a subscription model.

Neither are they the only end goal in other MMOs. For example, back in the day Blizzard revealed that fewer than 5% of WoW players raided. Then they introduced raids that needed fewer players and the numbers rose. Then they added an accessible, pug-friendly Looking For Raid difficulty and the numbers rose even more.

See they figured out ways of getting more people into raiding, which meant that more people got to see and enjoy the content they’re creating. Which is a good thing for both the players and the company.

An easy mode raid would serve a similar purpose in GW2. It would give people a more accessible intro to raiding and far from being the waste of resources that some people see it as it would instead be a way of ensuring that the work they’ve done in raids would be seen and enjoyed by more people. It would make the raids themselves a better use of resources than they are now.

If you assume that raids in GW2 are done by 5% (I think it’s higher, but whatever), then assigning 5% of the devs on the live team to them seems appropriate. To make an additional mode would require more dev time. I prefer that the devs not on raids work on the stuff they’re working on rather than a story mode raid that would not have sustainability.

As I said above, LFR worked in WoW because of the Blizz approach. They would add a bunch of dungeons, raids, gathering, dailies and quests in with XPac’s while concentrating on dungeons and raids (and festivals) between XPac’s. GW2 offers less with XPacs but more between for non raiders. I don’t want to see the “more between” impacted negatively.

I didn’t say anything about the numbers in GW2 but regardless that’s a bit of a false dilemma.

The raid team should be the ones to add that easy mode, and that easy mode should simply be lower boss health and damage and longer or more forgiving timers. If they put this simpler/easier mode in then it would attract more people to raiding which would increase the percentage of players who raid and therefore the work your hypothetical 5% of devs does would be enjoyed by more players giving a better return on the resources spent on raids.

Either way, scheduling and resourcing is a matter for ArenaNet.

And ANet has said that tiered raids are not going to be a thing.

Fair enough, but at one time they said that raids weren’t going to be a thing. Mounts too. They sometimes change their minds.

There’s barely any story in the raids. Unlike in WoW’s old raids (no idea about the new ones) where they basically wrapped up or continued the single player story. Even the white mantle stuff is so minor that they don’t tell you anything you aren’t told through the Living World (I mean, I do hope most people figured out that the White Mantle was trying to revive Lazarus, which is all I’ve gleamed from the raid story so far.)

Which is a good thing imho, this way as Anet doesn’t have to bother doing the extra work of making an “easy” version of the raids (which they probably don’t have the manpower for anyway) as the only thing you are missing out on is the bossfights and some minor ambient dialogue.

People that think the raids somehow plug the plentiful holes in the LS3 narrative are in for a huge disappointment.

One of the big feedbacks from the. community was for raids to avoid significant story continuations in raids. Casual players or non raiders did not want to be forced i to raiding to find out whst happens next. Any story in the first three raids was recapped by any npc in bloodstone fen, which worked well

Really? I don’t remember that NPC or that recap.

Sorry for the stupid question but as someone who has never played WoW: What is raid story mode? How is it different to the existing raid?

I believe he may be looking for something like LFR or Normal difficulty in WoW which is “easy mode”/puggable but does drop decent(ish) loot. Those are intended for people to get a foothold on raiding and to experience the story. Heroic and Mythic difficulties are more difficult and drop better loot than the easier modes. In WoW that’s quite easy as all equipment there has an Item Level and easier raids drop loot with a lower Item Level than harder ones. This means you can do Normal mode in order to help gear up to try Heroic mode and so on.

Of course, that loot situation is not really applicable in GW2 as we (thankfully) do not have Item Levels and (thankfully) have our equipment capped at Ascended. What this means in GW2 is that the only appropriate “raid level” loot is Ascended equipment and Legendary components. I suppose a “story mode”/LFR equivalent in GW2 could just drop some basic loot bags, a reduced chance of any Ascended equipment from the bosses and such (maybe Magnetite Shards but no Legendary Insights).

I’d prefer they just allowed a mode that allowed people to increase the raid size (maybe up to 20-25, I’m still baffled that they capped raids at 10 people) and completely nerfed the loot but left the bosses as they are. That way people could “zerg” the encounters to learn them and then try “real” 10 man raiding to get the loot.

Especially on male toons the medium armor looks like crap (although I found the pirate stuff quite cool at the beginning and I also liked the leather coats).

But now, I’d like to have some medium armor that justifies to be called ARMOR. some leather breastplate, some cool leather leg and arm protection, some metal reinforcement woven in here and there. And especially for my huge Norn ranger who just looks stupid and fat with most of the existing armor skins.

EDIT: I forgot to complain about the ridiculous head armor. Why does medium head armor has to look like kind of S/M toys? Vote for more cool hoodies or helmets.

I think that the only armour like that in the game at the moment is on the gemstore or in the sPvP or WvW set.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Krytan_armor (female only, male is a trenchcoat)

I sometimes think it’d be better if they just… stopped earlier when designing armour. A lot of it is so overwrought.

[Suggestion] Can we have underwater maps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pifil.5193

Pifil.5193

This game offers the most beautiful water world I have ever seen.

Legendary underwater weapons, aqua breathers, completely different skills underwater, different fighting style. There should be more content to cover the usage of these things. And if they add a little more it will be perfect. They can even implement new wvw/pvp mode, in an underwater map or at least half of it.

I hope you are wrong Kreejaffa.

I don’t dislike underwater content but nor do I particularly love it.

Either way aqua breathers are not actually required (take them off, you’ll see your character can’t drown). They’re just an annoyance, really, a second helmet you need to craft and put runes in but rarely use. Many people have been in favour of changing them from armour to just be skins.

Also, they removed most of the water from WvW and all of it from sPvP because most people didn’t enjoy it. Underwater combat is not satisfying and a lot of skills simply don’t work underwater.

Take Revenant as an example of a class that is pretty broken underwater, it has two legendaries that work underwater, Shiro and Mallyx. Neither of the elite spec legends work underwater because their ground targeted abilities can’t be targeted at an arbitrary point in 3D space.

This is a general problem and even if it was solved and you could somehow determine which particular point someone wanted to target still wouldn’t change the fact that a lot of skills are pretty useless underwater. Take, for example, thief traps that created a line and affect people who cross it. That’s great in the normal surface world because you can place it in a choke point where people have to cross but it would be practically useless underwater because people just won’t swim through it. Not because they’re avoiding it but just because the chances of them swimming through that particular point in 3D space is quite low.

Is the game badly optimized/outdated?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pifil.5193

Pifil.5193

The engine is pretty outdated, indeed. Like people already mentioned, a modified version of the GW1 engine which was already outdated five years ago when the game got released.
Considering all of this, the optimization isn’t actually terrible. It could be better of course. Much better even.

Let’s see whether PoF ends up being a big success or not. This might make the move to a new engine seem worth the effort and investment. All though, it will most likely take a few more years until they consider it given the amount of money it would cost.

Provide improvements, maybe. Switch to an entirely new engine? No. Nor should you honestly expect them to.

Exactly, they are making some improvements, it’s not impossible, but swapping engines is not feasible. Off the top of my head since launch we now have a 64bit client and far better server side handling of conditions allowing us to stack more than 25 on a single target.

There have been lots of little changes and improvements both on client and server side but there won’t be a big “new engine” switch. That would be far too costly and at the end you still have the same models, textures and content in a “new engine”.

My characters pretty much all wear cultural or gem store armour. Which tells you a lot about how I feel about the armours added to the game. PoF isn’t likely to change that but I’m starting to warm to the warbeast armour.

I’d like a few short leather jackets, waist length or no further than the butt but ArenaNet’s designers seem unwilling to actually produce anything like that. They’re still fixated on the trenchcoat and butt cape with the occasional lopsided coat that only has a trenchcoat or butt cape on one side.

Feelings on multiple guild membership?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pifil.5193

Pifil.5193

My opinion is that the multi-guild system is great, it allows people to more easily find guilds that suit them. It’s pro-player not anti-guild.

Some GMs seem to think that they have a right to demand loyalty to their Guild. The idea of loyalty being something that you enforce highlights a basic misunderstanding of what loyalty is, I think. To those I’d say: if you’re playing a game where people are allowed be in 5 guilds and people are leaving your guild to join others then it’s not that they’re “disloyal”, it’s that you’re doing something wrong. Or, possibly, doing nothing at all.

Those GMs need to stop thinking of their Guilds as a kingdom that they rule with absolute power and start thinking of them as a club that meets a set of needs for its members. If a Guild doesn’t meet their member’s needs then those members should leave and loyalty be kitten ed.

I’m currently in one main guild (and a personal banking “guild”, population: me). It’s small, relaxed and I really like the people in it. But as I said, we’re small so we can’t do everything. I have in the past temporarily joined Tequatl and Triple Trouble guilds. I am currently considering looking for a fractal guild. I’m also considering looking for a raid training guild. I love that I can do this without needing to drop out of my guild.

I still don’t get housing. Anet will make it instanced, so who would ever see your little pink house?

I personally don’t care if anyone ever sees it, I will, it’s for me. I mostly just want a “home instance” that is like a combination of the hall of monuments and a library.

Something that shows the progress of the character (and account), trophy rooms, souvenirs, book shelves, a librarian golem that records and plays back collected dialog, a holo projector for cut scenes and so on.

And if we’re going really crazy here, more npcs from your chosen order (a research area for priory, barracks for vigil troops and control room for the whispers) and my ultimate not needed but I’d love it request; the ability to see your other characters in the relevant home instances, so you could go to the Black Citadel and into the bar there and seeing your charr characters standing around the pub chatting to one another.

Gryffin and Spider mounts removal[PoF]

Additionally, there isn’t anything saying we won’t see these mounts come into the game later on. Like, Season 4 for instance. We may yet see them.

That would be great, a season 4 episode with a flying mount.

Somehow I just don’t see it as actually flying. For assorted reasons. But maybe it glides in a new way.

Maybe, or they could be used in some kind of “main event” where you’re fighting from griffin back against hordes of winged enemies.

Anyway, I’d say most would agree that if the models exist then it’d be a shame if they’re not used somehow.

Thank you for letting us get rid of cats

We have no idea if they were “removed” or if they will be available either in game or in the gem store as mount skins.

Any Vega 64 users? 3440x1440

Looking to pick up a new GPU. I currently use a R9 290 and it’s long in the tooth, especially for this resolution. I’m eyeballing a 1070, Vega 56, Vega 64, or 1080ti. I wanted to know your experience in GW2 since it is an older engine and see how it was performing.

I have a 1080 running at 3440×1440 and it’s purring like a kitten. Most areas in the game I get >60fps on max settings, in cities it can drop a little bit and it maybe hits 30 fps in big fights in WvW.

GW2’s engine is very CPU dependant though so a lot of the time performance is more bottlenecked by CPU than GPU though (I have an i7-6700K).

Also, I have a g-sync monitor so it may not be quite as smooth as I think it is. I’ll put on a FPS counter and take a look at the actual numbers I get later on tonight and post again.

I seriously can’t wait to get my (expected) dye kits to choose a free, high cost dye, or my next choice of a birthday backpack.

Yep, I took the charr one last year, I want the asura one this year.

The dyes are always welcome.

Can we/will we ever get Fishing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pifil.5193

Fishing is extremely easy to create a bot for, and its hard to differentiate between fishing bots and players fishing, so unless the fishing doesnt really provide anything useful, in which case not many people would do it , its more trouble than its worth.
Mainly the enforcing of players complaining about fishing bots.

How can you possibly state that it’s extremely easy to create a bot for something that doesn’t even exist?

was Skaven the inspiration for Skritt ?

I love the Skaven, they are a brilliant race but apart from the fact that they are both humanoid rats, Skritt are nothing like them. A race being a humanoid animal isn’t that rare or unique.

As for Skritt I thought they inspired by Rat Kings in the mythology around those they are typically far more intelligent than regular rats.

So we were discussing all the dragons killed and what to do with all that meat. That lead to the discussion of what wine would go best with Aurene.

Wait, what kind of beer?

Why so many lounge areas?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pifil.5193

Why are there so many different lounge areas? There are something like 6 of them now. Building one after another seems like a waste of resources for the devs. I have the Captain’s Airship which helps me reach Orr via the gate below. I went ahead and got the Mistlock one because of the low gravity space area and it allows players to return to the previous location plus the one that came with PoF which I can’t use yet but it seems to me that the others are fairly useless.

I’d much rather see them do something like turn Claw Island into a full map w/pirate attacks at night and Inquest weaponized karka/pocket raptor infestations in the daytime.

Saying that they’ll probably turn Claw Island into yet another lounge.

On the one hand you’re talking about putting standard NPCs and objects like crafting tables into a small area of an (generally speaking) pre-existing map that you sell access to on the gem store for convenience.
On the other hand you’re talking about adding a bunch of different events to a tiny map.

I don’t really see how they’re related to one another. Or indeed how it’s a one or the other trade-off.

This game has gone the way Anet stated that it never would when we first found out about the gem store, and that is “Pay2Win”.

Can you explain that abit nothing talked about in this thread make the game p2w.

In a game where Fashion Wars is at least as important as any other game mode, yes it is p2w.

How does one win Fashion Wars?

having to face away from the mob towards your allies is a huge harm in terms of gameplay/flow. just saying.
imagine playing shattered observatory, where you already have to face away from the boss every now and then. and additionally face away from the boss everytime you use a mantra. when are you actually gonna fight it, if you’re busy spinning around like a beyblade?

also, what you seem to forget is that currently the firebrand axe 1 range is shorter than most other melee 1s. So even if you’re not standing dead center on a mob, you will still most likely stand closer to it than the rest of your group.

I’d be happier if it was a 180 degree cone but why would you all stand in front of the boss? Having your entire group get caught in cleave damage is no fun. Split up so you fight it from different directions then you’ll be able to catch other players in your support.

Also 130 is standard melee range. A quick wiki search shows that most melee weapons use that range.

[Suggestion] All VIP passes port back.

Pifil.5193

How is something that’s not possible for them to change a “double dip?”

Because it sounds like a convenient excuse to continue selling “improved” VIP portal stones even if you already have one the next one is better and they never update the old ones, so they can sell you new ones every few months.

When you join an instance like the Mistlock Sanctuary or move to another game mode (WvW, sPvP) the game remembers where you were in the “real world” it’s been like this since GW2 launched.

When you use one of the other passes like the Royal Terrace pass then you remain in the “real world” as it’s not instanced and so your “real world” position is in the Royal Terrace. That means that any attempt to send you back to where you were in the “real world” would bring you to the Royal Terrace. Hence it’s not possible.
