Bloody necros, always stealing the show!
Even if GW2/PoF is GW2/PoS, I’ll still have gotten great value for my money.
Hah! Nice one.
I feel the same way. If it turns out it is GW2/PoS I’ll probably walk away then but I have faith in them given the direction they’ve taken in the last year and a half. If they manage to keep that up and continue to improve on each new release then I’ll be happy.
On one hand you need the HoT mastery to craft the new legendary weapons. Because of that (and I think it was clarified on Reddit during the Ep 5 AMA) that you WON’T need the new expansion when they finish trotting out the rest of the “new” legendary weapons.
On the other they never said the “new” legendary weapons would be out in a timely manor. Just that they would start releasing them post HoT.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/68vw84/flashpoint_devs_here_ask_us_anything/dh1qia9/
Our plan is to keep releasing legendary weapons alongside episodes, with the weapons not requiring the new expansion.
MoI see no reason to believe they won’t continue their current pace. I’m looking forward to the new longbow and dagger.
Neither do I, just that they never said they would all be out by X months after the HoT expansion. So I don’t see the issue some are upset over, other than the weapon type they want hasn’t been released yet and they are afraid they aren’t coming.
Oh sorry, I completely misunderstood you! I thought you were saying that they’d release slower after the expansion released.
They “recycled” content like maps, events, elite specialisations and masteries. I also heard they recycled the idea of enemies that move around and that you have to defeat in order to get XP and loot. Oh and they recycled loot too.
The basic building blocks of the game. All recycled.
If they innovated to the degree that the OP apparently wants then we’d be playing a different game and a lot of people would hate that.

Have to agree a 2K price tag is fine all things considered. When you think about you no longer would have to replace those pieces with others as you change builds and remove all those other ascended pieces. In effect you are turning ascended pieces into junk loot for you, so yeah, 2K would be reasonable and that price will fall over time unless more material syncs are added in to create demand for the crafting materials. ANet has been adding more and more ways to get ascended pieces in that its effectively replacing exotic so having the bleeding edge of gear cost a lot is good game balance.
I think 2,000g (or in this case 1,300-1,400g as it actually is) is fine. I think that future legendary trinkets without visual effects should probably be closer to the cost of legendary armour alright but something with a visual aura like this it seems quite reasonable to me.
Also Ascended Accessories (i.e. earrings) are more expensive than Rings and Amulets (for historical reasons) so I’d imagine that legendary rings and amulets will similarly be cheaper than this.
I do think we’ll need a toggle box for effects from weapons, trinkets and armour when they add more trinkets. I can’t even begin to imagine the visual noise of a full squad of character’s who are fully equipped with legendaries: 10 people with two weapons, armour, 5 trinkets, a back piece and… oh Lions Arch has crashed again.
Just tell me they are not just now starting development though. If the announcement is that we are more than a year out, that would hurt. Hope spoilers had some truth and we are looking at a 4th quarter release, would be awesome way to end the year.
After HoT they formed several teams to tackle the problem of content droughts. They formed three LS teams and one expansion team and at least one team that served both (developing new technology, no doubt). Thankfully this means that they have been working on the expansion for some time.
IIRC the plan is for the expansion to come about 3-5 months after the last LS episode (the one that was just released) then the next season of the LS will restart about 3-5 months after the expansion launches. I’ll see if I can find the post on one of their AMAs.
Edit: that was easy

We announced that today’s episode, Flashpoint, is the second-to-last episode of the season. Yes, that means what you think it means: there’s one more episode after this, and then straight to the expansion pack.
A lot of you have been wondering about the upcoming release cadence, given that last time around we took a long break from Living World releases to get Heart of Thorns out the door and then to support that expansion after release.
The good news is that this time around we have two separate fully-staffed teams that are both hitting on all cylinders. So our rough plan is to slot the expansion pack into the release cadence as if it were an episode: episode 5, then episode 6, then the expansion pack, then episode 1. But we’ll make some allowance for the fact that shipping an expansion pack is a big deal logistically and will probably take longer than the 2~3 months we normally allocate between episodes.

BTW it’s more like 1360g right now:
(edited by Pifil.5193)
They said already at HoT release that it would be. Going forward each expansion will be released for free, and the next exp will include the previous ones.
If they keep their word F2P player would get HoT at next expo drop.
“Each expansion will be released for free?” They never said that.
They said that each new Expansion will include the previous ones sure, and I think it might be a good idea to give HoT to the F2P players (in order to keep the maps busy) but I don’t think they ever said that they’d be giving HoT to F2P players.
Did you AoE a lot? I think near-simultaneous kills can sometimes fail to register. Occasionally a few chak can be stuck in the wall as well, according to the wiki.
It took me several goes, I think the problem was chak running away and getting stuck in the walls. Also if you get defeated (maybe even if you just get downed) during the fight I don’t think you can get the achievement.
I know that when I finally got it the achievement there were still a bunch of chak still alive in the pit so maybe it keeps track of the number between attempts now? I don’t know.
Those sorts of fights need to be safely tucked away in raids and dungeons where folks who enjoy that stuff can seek them out. The Living Story should be fun and entertaining and not so difficult that you need to go looking for tricks and tips on forums. Normal stuff should be fun not frustrating. Anet seem to have forgotten that.
I agree it’s badly signposted but when you know how it works it’s not that hard. First time in the fight I had no clue what was happening, getting attacked by a shadowy thief version of myself didn’t give me a lot of time to read tooltips and debuffs amd I was trying to evade the ghostly hands and so on.
I got worn down and should have been defeated but I instead popped out of the vision and Anise told me that in order to beat this “I need to face my past” or something like that then I realised that the visions were green and when I ran over to them I realised there was an “F” interact option there so I ran over and pressed “F” whenever they shot a hand at me (as a daredevil that part was quite easy).
Once I realised that the rest was a pretty straightforward fight, it turns out I’m no match for… myself.
Not trying to be one of those “guh, this r so easy y u no l2p?” people just pointing out that sure, they did a pretty bad job of teaching you how the fight worked but once you know how it works the actual fight isn’t so bad.
@Pifil… Actually they didn’t deliver what they advertised as legendary journies has been scrapped for something less complex….. They also didn’t deliver on the regular intervals advertisement as the legendary weapons were delayed indefinitely for a time…… I do remember them saying that the next expansion wouldn’t hamper HoT ……. but again that was false because they wouldn’t have been “Stretched too thin” if they didn’t have 70 employees working on the next expansion
Your idea of what “hampering HoT” means is different to mine. They reintroduced LS3, started adding new content (including the missing legendaries) at a steady pace while keeping production on the next expansion up. The next expansion didn’t impact on that schedule so it didn’t hamper it. They were never going to cram random people with unsuitable skills into the legendary team, it’s a waste of time and money, do you think a software engineer, a QA engineer, or even an environmental artist would be worth a kitten when it comes to designing legendary weapons? These are not transferable skills.
Is your problem that they haven’t finished the legendary weapon set yet or with the “fine print”? Their intentions are to deliver on the promise and deliver the weapons, those won’t have legendary journeys but that’s the compromise they had to make in order to deliver the weapons and the content updates that those weapons were supposed to accompany while keeping the future of the company and game viable. Remember the content droughts around the HoT expansion? Those occurred because they took everyone off to work on the expansion. This meant no new content for 9 months before the expansion released and (apart from raids) none for 9 months afterwards.
So the choice is 1) delay the expansion for a few months (creating another content drought) to finish the remaining legendaries in order to meet some arbitrary, imagined deadline or 2) actually keep the release schedule without content droughts and continue to release the remaining legendaries.
I’d choose 2 as it gives the best hope for the game.
I will define it as false advertising if any of those 16 legendary weapons attatched to the legendary journies entry is put behind a 2nd expansion paywall.
Then I guess you’ll have to do that because they are unlikely to finish a set before the next expansion and imo the next Legendaries will require the new expansion since they’re going to want people to play the new content, not the old.
They’ve already stated that the remainder of the Second set of Legendary weapons will not require the new expansion. They will be available to anyone who owns HoT when they’re ready.
Yeah, why bother delivering on what you advertised since only a few people care
They are delivering on it. They just won’t be finished before the new expansion comes out. They are being worked on and coming one (or two) per living story episode.
You may not like their timeline but they are delivering on the promise.
I’ve been needing those for some time for core Tyria. Thanks for adding them.
For those that may not know about them someone posted a helpful guide to finding them on Reddit.

Oh, my gawd! That’s great news! Thanks ArenaNet!
Step 1. Put the brakes on the Hype train.
Step 2. Wait for the announcementWild speculation is what got us all in trouble last time. So this time around I’d suggest being more laser focused on whats in the announcement rather then whats not.
Sounds like great advice to me. I’m personally putting on my sceptical spectacles when I read anything.
Why can’t noone from Anet swing by and say yes they will be comming back or no its a one time thing? If you write to support to ask they will just send you a reply to write on forum. You come here and can not know the answer cause aparently the players do not know it either and Anet won’t say a thing. Like its not enough of a ripoff…
Honestly? They probably don’t say anything because they haven’t made a decision on this yet.
It’s like this, these items may come back and they may not. ArenaNet don’t want to say these will come back because the question then becomes “you promised they would come back and it’s been X months/years, when will they come back?” and if they say they won’t come back and decide in the future to bring them back they open themselves up for attack on the grounds that they “lied” to us.
That’s why they’re so reluctant to share this kind of information; saying nothing cuts down on the general anger.
I’m saying whatever reason they had, it wasn’t a crash grab.
Statistically you have to buy the double amount of Keys for one dollar each to get a single weapon.
Of course, there is no cash grab
You’ve got a point there. I don’t know (or really care) if it’s “technically” a cash grab or not, I’d rather not get side tracked into an argument over the definition of terms but the facts are:
1) They’ve doubled the price of these skins.
2) This doubles the amount of BL Keys you need in order to get these skins.
3) If this continues with future weapon sets, then it has effectively halved the value of tickets and scraps.
I’ve never been a fan of them bumping the price of skins after a while. I’ve never been a big fan of putting pressure on people to “buy now!” Hopefully, this set will do badly in terms of sales and they won’t try this again, as it is I’ll sit on my (very few) BL Tickets for another while.
It’s not in the patch notes but many of these things will now go into storage! THANK YOU!
By the Alchemy! Thank you!
Most of the HoT rewards don’t offer the new attribute combinations, this seems to be a design decision or accidental omission that they fixed with the LS3 rewards. With the new expansion looming I don’t think they’ll go back and rework these rewards again.
It’s annoying of course but IIRC I just took all three as Berserker, I got my Viper backpacks etc from the LS3 rewards.
My main issue with S3 is that it’s all too rushed, look at the story in episode 5, it has 5 steps 2 instanced and 3 in the world and you can play through them all in a couple of hours. There’s not a lot of storytelling you can do in that brief a time and it feels like it’s trying to be too grand in scope.
The fact that they tried to cram so much into the 5 episodes didn’t help, it feels to me like they’ve barely scratched the surface for each episode. Personally, I’d prefer they slowed the story down and added… well, added more, more dialog, more story, a more substantial experience.
A new map with each episode seems great but is probably not always necessary. If every episode didn’t have to add a new map then the ones that didn’t add a map could add a lot more “story” based in existing locations.
Since the looooooooong term plan is to make LWS1 playable anyway, I think it would be a waste of time to somehow cheat your character into the cutscene.
Woa, I’m actually more hyped to play LWS1 some day rather than LWS3 final / EP2.
Yeah, I wouldn’t hold my breath there; I doubt it’s ever going to happen (apart from snippets of LS1 being reused in fractals).
:i actually feel a little kitteneated (really anet C and H is censored?) that everyone can use Black Widow in pvp, it shares all of its skills and stats with another spider so i don’t see why anet let everyone use it,
its the final reward for HoM after all.
I think that the reason for that is because someone with 30 HoM points could use a Black Widow and a Jungle Spider at the same time and then have combat options that someone without 30 HoM points didn’t have. They want sPvP to be a level playing field hence they let anyone use the HoM pets in sPvP.
Seriously. I’ve had the stuff for years. No need to keep things exclusive forever. Not wanting anyone else to have it makes me feel selfish. And I don’t care about being a special snowflake with exclusive skins.
It’s not exclusive at all because anyone else can have those skins if they’re willing to get it through GW1 (only takes 10 points), which is still running and is still a great game but you have to do the content to get the skins. That’s fair enough, IMO, and is just like the skins from fractals, WvW, sPvP, raids, PvE and so on.
The trailer assumes your PC didn’t kill Scarlet. It was 3yrs ago. Many characters playing will not have witnessed the LS, therefore having their PC in the cinematic wouldn’t make sense.
No, the canon is that the Pact Commander (the PC) did kill Scarlet just as they helped killed Zhaitan and killed Mordremoth.
The fact that they show some random norn is probably due to technical limitations, or just the fact that it’s a pre-rendered cutscene.
I agree with what Illconceived Was Na said, but wanted to add:
I would like, if they are asking for community input, for them to let people know it’s actually happening.
I mean, not everyone who plays visits the forums or reddit. would be nice if there was a notice about it in the game or something. maybe in the yellow panel they use to announce pvp stuff, or something similar.
More in game mails would be a good idea, IMO.
As for these polls, well, I’m not surprised they’ve stopped, ArenaNet seems to decide to introduce these methods on a whim and drop them on another whim.
Or during a 50% off sale you can spend $34.99 and buy and extra account and get laurels and mystic coins every months which add up to more money over time and you support anet as well see what i mean. I’m just smarter with my money than you.
You can get it cheaper than that from Amazon (you don’t need HoT for the daily rewards).
They don’t need to voice Zojja when there is no Zojja. Let that sink in
Bite your tongue!
I log on and what is there to do? Nothing – which is why I log out and watch hour long videos about why Guild Wars 2 is boring.
Can we have something to do other than just combat?
Nothing to do? Have you considered actually participating in the combat? That’s basically what the game is about after all.
Apart from the combat (which is the core of this and many other games) there are the HoT adventures, the activities or jumping puzzles as non-combat activities.
If you want other things you probably need to play another game.
Lake Doric was in the game data for years before it was made accessible so that alone doesn’t mean it isn’t going to be the next LS map.
Of course, it doesn’t mean it will be the next LS map either.
In name only. It was never a playable section like the parts of the Orr map we see now that are a part of the dungeon and personal story.
It wasn’t playable alright but the map data was in the game for ages, WoodenPotatoes did a couple of videos on it a while back, someone (I think that shaman) had software that allowed a fly through. The final version was different of course, they drained the lake, and a few other things.
Lake Doric was in the game data for years before it was made accessible so that alone doesn’t mean it isn’t going to be the next LS map.

I’m pretty certain we won’t see a new weapon with the new expansion. We already have a bunch of weapons for elite specs.
But you’re also forgetting that cosmetics and desirable stats had a different dynamic before the Wardrobe system. Cosmetics were destructive, as you combined 2 items to get one desired item.
Stat swapping was a response to Wardrobe completely undermining the old Transmutation system, and the very, very clunky nature of Mystic Forge recipes. Ascended gear in all forms is automatically account bound… but Legendary weapons (by default) are not. Thus enabling stat swapping via MF would give unbound results, and/or require just as many bespoke recipes and item IDs as there are for Ascended weapons- which is why we have 20+ colors associated with Asc Weapons stats, where as item rewards from HOT are mostly stat selectable.
Like someone else pointed out previously, the impact of Sigil swapping is Economic rather then cosmetic. Its why they refused to do legendary armor at first, because Asc armor sets has been the single biggest success for the TP Tax gold sink. Legendary armor causes that cost to eventually dead end, as it removes a major reoccurring cost that has kept players engaged in the TP.
The reason they’ve changed that can only mean they’re going to render it obsolete with a future change, and shift new desirable elements behind a new gating system. Legendary armor is a major convenience now that multiple builds are viable per class…. but its costs are finite, and they need reoccurring costs in order to combat inflation. But with a full set of Legendary armor and weapons, which have free access to all stat/sigil combinations in perpetuity, where do you move the cost sink to?
Ummm… where do you move the cost sink to? Why you move it to the legendary armour and weapons, of course.
To illustrate the point Zojja’s Razor (zerker dagger) costs 62g to craft at the moment, Incinerator costs 1713g. You can make about 27 ascended daggers for the cost of one legendary one. The sigils themselves are a tiny fraction of the cost.
Just to clarify something, they mentioned that the economic impact was brought up as something they wanted to investigate but that wasn’t the only issue with adding sigil swap to weapons, there were also some unspecified technical issues there.
It was intented t make guild harder for 1 man and smaller guilds will ofc have it harder since the buildings cost. And why not its a nature of a guild the bigger the stronger. if you so decide to keep it small feel free but it will be harder.
I dont think people have a problem with harder.
For instance lets say to upgrade your guild hall you have to get guild members, use the device thats transports you to a mission area ( the star gate) where you have to fight a boss ( like a raid) or finish some chain events in a certain time limit. ( like when we acquired guild halls)
But guild halls was nothing like that, it was simply take wood and put in. Take Ore and put in, take X and put in.
This is exactly the problem with Guild Halls (and is the problem with most of the systems added for HoT); a guild hall should have been a thing you do, a source of interesting new content, instead it was a thing you buy, a massive gold and materials sink that led to you largely just unlocking the same stuff you had already unlocked. No new guild missions since they added them, no new activities at all apart from rearranging expensive furniture and yet it all cost thousands to unlock.
I kinda feel like Tom Sawyer got us to whitewash his fence and thank him for it.
As it stands, we’ll be left with a LOT of unused Maguuma mastery points.
That’s good. Thanks to that you don’t need to feel pressured to do all of them and can skip those that are most annoying for you.
Exactly, that’s a good thing. The purpose of the Mastery system was not to “challenge” anyone or force them down a particular path, it was to provide an alternative to adding 10 levels onto the current level cap. To ensure that people have a way of advancing and unlocking new content and abilities that doesn’t invalidate everything they’ve got so far.
But I’d just hate see the currently unused 23 points in my wallet remain there forever.
They’re not actually in your wallet though, are they? They’re not there for the simple reason that they’re not currency, you can’t spend them (this is probably the same reason that Achievement Points and Hero Points, amongst others, aren’t in your wallet).
That means several years of daily usage before you’ll get even.
Exactly which existing nodes take less than several years of usage before breaking even on costs?
I am still kicking myself over consuming the mithril ore node that I got in that BLC, 3 pieces of mithril a day or… 1500g. Yeah. I chose poorly. Oh well.
This seems interesting but limited. If it had a chance of getting HoT materials like an amalgamated gemstone or Maguuma Lily, for example, it’d be a no brainer, as it is I’m not so sure.
sword/d longbow is a little more legit
I dont consider a longbow thief legit.
Longbow thief should be nerfed out of existence, imo. Fix it Anet!
Consequently, I think we’ll continue to see a lot of post likes this until ANet clarifies their plans for sigils on legendaries.
I’m basing my statement on posts I read on these forums that said an Anet dev on reddit said that sigil swapping was actually coming, just not right now. If that’s not the case then that’s a pity.
They are planning on offering sigil swapping functionality in the same way that legendary armour allows you to swap runes, it’s just a bit more complex than they expected.
I’m just throwing the idea out there. I know it’s gonna get shot down quick cause this community is full of salt at times. But what do you think of Anet adding Tickets to daily chests / achievements? Since chest aren’t repeatable and it takes about 120+ hours (depending on if you’re on winning server or have outnumbered pips ; more or less) to complete , why not just add tickets to dailies? This will help out casual players as well. People that have a life outside of the game and don’t want to spend 3 years to obtain a simple item.
That sounds like a great idea to me.
1. Sounds like it should just be baked in. Just award 10% more pips. Or restructure the bonus pips for WvW rank to add more grades there. I’d rather they didn’t expect you to be on at the end of a skirmish to get the bonus pips.
2. This sounds like it’ll just compound the issue where players on third place servers get bugger all and encourage further stacking on winning servers.
3. I don’t like. Buying tickets for Proofs of Heroics directly might be a better idea, but even then it’d have to have a weekly cap.
I’m not sure the OP has a right to comment. He’s established in the past months that rewards are the only motivator, and that he was predominantly a pve player prior to WvW introducing rewards.
I’m sorry if just a month in that you’re bored. Perhaps you’d be happier back in pve.
He and other newcomers absolutely have a right to comment. After all, it’s not your game mode, it’s everyone’s, you may play it more but everyone’s allowed to play it.
Everyone plays for rewards. Everyone. For some people simply playing the game mode is rewarding enough (some enjoy the sense of being part of something bigger, some want the large scale fights, or roaming and causing problems for their opponents). For others they only want the dangling carrot, the end goal, “material” reward. Most people fall in the middle.
I think only have of the change was misguided, and we’ll probably have to wait a few weeks for ArenaNET to collect some analytics on the change before making another adjustment to it.
Analytics on what? Enraged players?
The outnumbered bug needed to be fixed yesterday. The participation system has already ruined the free form feeling of WvW – breaking outnumbered on top makes it infuriating.
Anet should give everyone 5 free chests this week as compensation. Well, assuming they fix it tomorrow. Come friday we are probably looking at 2-3 full tiers some people will have lost.
Yeah, Anet kittened up this time…wonder if they even test this kind of stuff before lauching in the game…honestly I wouldnt even bother that i cant get Outnumbered anymore if the reward system was activite based and not time based…but like this i have to play this game allmost like a second job, even with the outnumbered buff on…without it theres no point to aim for the diamond chest…they probably wont even look at this till tomorrow, and during the rest of the week i will have little to no time to play, even if I go full hardcore I will probably get at max to plat chest…
The right thing to do would be Anet give to every player that got affected by this bug the full chest rewards…but for this to happen Anet would need to be actual professionals
I doubt they can test this kind of stuff, they can ensure it works but not how well, they simply don’t have the player numbers to test it; that would require test servers. The lack of any real ability to test this kind of thing leads to them balancing after it goes live, which isn’t necessarily good or bad but it can lead to frustration as they tend to nerf and buff quite slowly from a player perspective.
Personally, I feel that their stinginess when it comes to reward systems puts me off both WvW and sPvP. WvW rewards are already as grindy as hell, a tiny trickle compared to PvE, and are especially punishing for new players who do not realistically have a chance at getting the later Skirmish Reward Chests (and Tickets) even with the Outnumbered buff.
My own server is usually 3rd place and so I get about 2 pips. Meaning it takes 50 ticks just to get Wood each week (heh-heh, etc). That’s 4 hours of active WvW for 10 tickets. I’ll be lucky to get to the end of silver in a week of frequent playing. Which would get me 45 tickets. You need either 175 or 350 for any piece of armour, 350 for weapons.
That’s one or two months of dedicated playing to get the first piece. I’m sure it’s completely intentional as this is intended as a long term reward and it will speed up as you gain levels etc, it just seems so… miserly at the early stages – especially with the changes to decay – that it’s off-putting.
Great job on this! Fits the Asura theme perfectly and finally gives me an alternative to Cultural T3 armor on my Asura.
If you make Dynamics themed weapon skins, I’ll be big trouble…
Yes please, would love that! Here’s hoping!
There was some vertical progression in the Heart of Thorns expansion in that ANet introduced gear prefixes which are objectively better than the ones available in core. So, while so far there has been no regular power creep every six months or so, as I saw in WoW, there has been some since Ascended was introduced back in late 2012.
Well, the equipment is still Exotic or Ascended they’ve just added some attribute combinations that are better for some builds and purposes so that’s not technically vertical progression though but I know what you mean, if they create new stat combinations then you have an incentive to switch to it (although at least with Ascended equipment you can swap stat combinations relatively cheaply).
That said, there is nothing to stop them adding new kinds of Infusions that will add more than the current 5 stats (maybe offering stat combinations, like +4/2/+2 for example) but require a lot of materials or resources to create/obtain. I’m expecting something like that next expansion or the one after as an Ascended Jeweller option.
Hey sorry for the delay. Outnumbered is applied at the start of the tick. This means you’ll only gain or lose it at the start of the tick. So if you are on a map is Outnumbered at the start of the tick you’ll get Outnumbered pips for that tick provided you don’t change maps.
Why not go with a simpler and better solution and get rid of the bonus pips to Outnumbered maps but reward bonus pips for continued participation on a map?
Ya know, actually reward those who fill maps and play.
Because continued participation on a map is not something that should be rewarded.
People’s willingness to change maps and jump onto, for example, their Home Borderland in order to defend their garrison from a massive enemy attack should be rewarded.
People being unwilling to do so because, for example, they’ve built up +2 bonus pips from continued participation on another map is not good for WvW.
The exosuit deserve the praise. Personally I kind of hate uncreative outfit they usually churn out, but this one is done well and fits in that unique and lore-friendly. And to be honest, this is the only update that have a new asura armor/outfit other than the cultural armor, so we Asura players had to resort using cultural armor everytime. Taimi outfit is too human (similar to magitech) so it’s a nice update.
Exactly, I’m delighted to have another option for my Asuran characters that suits them so well, I wear T3 cultural light and heavy armour on two of my Asuran characters with my thief wearing a mixture of Inquest armour and other bits and pieces, I’d say he’ll be wearing this for some time.
I presume the purpose of ddosing someone is to enjoy annoying as many people as possible.
A DDOS attack costs money. It’s supposed to hurt the organisation, not the people who visit thew website or log into a game. Even if the person/group that owns the botnet executes the attack, it takes resources they cannot otherwise use or sell.
Yes. But the question was, whats the purpose.
Since it costs the attackers money and if they aren’t getting a financial return, such as a payoff by the company to leave them alone then the purpose is to annoy and cause trouble.
It doesn’t cost the attackers money. It costs the victim money.
Ok. That’s the purpose then. By imposing costs on the victim they cause trouble and annoyance.
Or do you have another explanation as to what the purpose is? What does the attacker get out of it?
In short, who knows?
I would guess that they bear some grudge against ArenaNet or their parent or affiliated companies over some real or imagined hurt (which could literally be anything) that makes them feel justified in harming them financially and inconveniencing their customers.
It could simply be people revelling in a kind of power fantasy some kind of “haha, look at the harm I can do with these downloaded programs! That’ll teach them to change the cooldown on the Bear pet’s Bottom Burp ability from 8 to 9 seconds when it’s clearly going to destroy the entire game!” thing.
