Im talking about ships, airships, carts, etc. not sure how many time this topic has come up before, but the thing about guild wars for me is that wherever you go, the whole overworld is this menagerie of bosses, puzzles, dungeons, monsters, quests, etc etc. Everything you’d expect to find in an MMO. And that’s fine.
A few vehicles are already in the game.
And for the rest: Wait for expansion 3 “RoD” (Race of Dragons) where vehicles will be the next big way of travelling in Cantha.
We’ll be piloting teams of giant golems, fighting bubble’s enormous mutant minions as they rampage through Cantha’s coastal cities.
No, not even remotely true. Mesmer, ranger and necromancer still have minions/pets, and future (and HoT) elite specs will not have the same mechanics that these specs do.
I like the outfit, it’s a near perfect rendition of the GW1 Sunspear uniform right down to the ill-advised exposed midriff on the female version. It’s excellent! The weapons in not sure on, the sword is good but I’ve left it in the bank for now.
Edit : I also bought my first passkey, for the Mistlock Sanctuary, with my “free” gems.
I am truly happy to see legendary armor for WvWers but it better take a 6 months to a year of HARD work to get the set or it will break the economy of this game. I would even go as far as to say making the armor at lest 1000 to 3000 rank requirement.
Really?
You understand you can buy raid runs in PVE, and it takes, at most, a month or two to grind Legendary armor in PVE right?
Around 2 months ye. Around 4 hours per week in a semi decent group.
Seems about right, I’m seeing more and more videos of people downing bosses in ~5 minutes, pvp and wvw will take a lot more time.
Still, looking forward to it.
Of course the population is dying. Why would pips keep anyone interested? Any new blood would come in, see how kitten-poor their pip gains are, and leave.
Agreed, the reward at the lower end of the scale is very poor; when your rank is less than 150 and your world is in 3rd place you need 100 ticks to get all your wood chests. That’s 500 minutes or 8 hours 20 minutes a week to get 10 tickets.
A better incentive might have been to give more pips to everyone and to give bonus tickets for rank. So low level players would have a chance of completing the chests and getting decent tickets but might be capped at 75 tickets a week but higher level players would get 175 tickets for the same number of chests.
Steam typically take 30% of sales, I don’t know what they charge for f2p hosting. Not to mention that GW2 would be just one of hundreds maybe thousands of free to play games there, lost in a sea of garbage. I don’t think it’s true to say that this would get a lot more sales for ArenaNet.
I think steam puts the newly updated games on it’s main page in the store, this’d advertise GW2 on steam and someone who doesn’t know about anything would check it, seeing it’s F2P and the visuals are quite decent they’d try it imo BUT I don’t know about the % steam takes and it might be too much for too little as people have said above.
Yep, it’s be on the front page for at least an hour until the next wave of shovelware asset flips push it off.
I think steam has big problems with the quality and quantity of titles they’ve let on in the last few years (over 4000 in 2016 alone). That’s about 11 a day, may not seem that much but the constant flood of games means that a lot of good games get overlooked because they have a few hours before they’re pushed off the front page by some new cookie clicker (of course, it’s not steam’s responsibility to advertise anyone’s games for them).

I was kinda being facetious there but I do take your point.
The issue here is the homogenisation of rewards, I think, people like unique rewards for their time. I get that. Those rewards act as an incentive to “do the thing” that gives the rewards.
The wvw and pvp reward tracks are a strange way of getting rewards into those modes, imo, first added to compensate for the removal of pvp skin crafting around when the wardrobe was introduced it was extended later to wvw to give something like reward parity between the competitive modes and with pve.
Pve is considered a single mode by ArenaNet, these rewards are already available in pve, but just not the way that you may like.
What am I going to do with all the ascended armor sets I have now?
My bank is full of excellent gear that any character could use. My wallet’s too small for my fifties AND MY DIAMOND SHOES ARE TOO TIGHT.
;)
Ahhh, I truly feel sorry for the guys in ArenaNet. The complaints they are doing nothing with the mode are nothing compared to the complaints when they try to change it.
Also, what’s the purpose of those particular reward tracks? To get the LS 3 currencies. Why are they needed? Primarily for ascended trinkets. What content floods us most with trinkets? Fractals.
If you want to get aurora then you have to do the relevant content, just like you have to do the relevant content for legendary armour or the legendary backpacks.
Get the LS3 nodes for your home instance. They help a lot.
WvW & PvP are fundamentally different game modes from PvE. Raids and Fractals are instanced versions of PvE.
You can do 100% raids & fractals and get good loot; that didn’t used to be true for WvW or PvP, which is why they have reward tracks. So again, in my opinion, the reason there’s no such thing as a track for those playing FotM or Raids is that it isn’t necessary.
This guy has it, the reward tracks are there to compensate for the fact that those games modes give terrible loot. Fractals and Raids give good loot they don’t need to be topped up with more loot.
On the other hand I’d be all for it if they add reward tracks to open world pve, wvw and pvp that give fractal and raid loot, legendary insights, for example, make it so you’d have to fill a bunch of reward tracks but you could get your legendary armour without setting foot in raids.
In fact we could just scrap the idea of unique rewards and currencies and replace them all with a new one, let’s call it “grey” or “goo!”
Edit : I’m now up to date with the latest news and know they are adding legendary armour to pvp and wvw. My point stands though.
(edited by Pifil.5193)
Legendary items (armor, backpieces, weapons, etc.) are not about instant gratification. 3 Months is a paltry amount of time.
Yep. I’ve been gathering the mats for my second legendary weapon for the last two months or so and it’s only been that quick because I already had a lot of the materials.
Having an entire set of legendary armour (i.e. 6 pieces) take only three months is not an issue, IMO.
Also to OP; there is no legendary PvP armour but the legendary backpiece added there takes an absolute minimum of 60 days to make. It’s only possible to progress that backpiece during leagues and the duration of Leagues and the gaps between those leagues meant that it took people a minimum of 6 months to make the backpiece, IIRC.
It’s not about uniformity. It’s about not constantly attracting 6+ enemies that take so long to kill that they have all respawned before even being downed (and keep this up till you die). That’s the kind of thing that not only can happen on this map, but happens frequently if you dare go anywhere alone.
At least it’s dropped from 20 earlier in the thread down to 6+ now, I guess they are listening after all. :P
I think they should lower the aggro range for those ice elementals at the least though.
Um, that’s what “extra” means — that they are surplus to requirements (although you do get an AP each, so they aren’t worthless). Adding a sink for them would mean putting more pressure on players to get every last one. That’s counter to ANet’s intent — they just added 9 points to core Tyria specifically to reduce pressure.
Precisely true and I’m very grateful they added those 9 points. The lack of or difficulty in getting Mastery Points was a very common complaint about the Mastery system. The key thing to remember here is that they are not a currency in the same way that Hero Points are not a currency.
The danger of turning them into a currency is that once they give people the ability to spend them then ArenaNet will never be able to add another Mastery that requires those Points, it effectively ends that entire Mastery system. Now, they probably never will add another HoT or Core Tyria Mastery (at least not without adding a bunch of new Points) but at least they keep the option.
That is assuming anet will ever add more HoT masteries which I profoundly doubt.
I have zero reason to believe that there will ever be more HoT masteries, HoT and LS3 are done, we go to the CD with elonian mastery points now.
You must have missed the part where I said “they probably never will add another HoT or Core Tyria Mastery”.
How big is the speed boon for the mounts? Is it stackable with character built speed boons?
40% from what I hear and while not confirmed I’d be willing to take a bet on the answer to the second question being “no”.
So like a built in Speed Boost mushroom? That’s great, it takes the pressure off designing an open-world build around getting access to Swiftness or a 25% movement buff. (That was one of the reasons I was hesitant about Deadeye, the Swiftness from Unhindered Combatant alone is just so useful).
Edit: also I don’t believe there are PoF Legendaries planned, Mike O’Brien said that they will finish the HoT legendaries in upcoming LS releases and those will only require HoT to complete.
I am 100% certain that there WILL be PoF Legendaries… it’s absolutely guaranteed to happen… Yes, they said they will be finishing the HoT Legendaries in upcomming releases that will only require HoT to release… however they made no mention of “having no plans for PoF Legendaries”. In fact it would be a mistake for them to NOT add any legendaries with PoF given the fact that they designed their expansion system to not require previous expansions… PoF can be played without ever owning HoT which means anyone who doesn’t own HoT but gets PoF would only have the core legendaries available to them which is quite clearly not intended. Players who only own PoF will have a set of PoF legendaries available to them as well. Will they be available at launch? Of course not… HoT Legendaries weren’t available at launch either… but by the time the next expansion is rolling out there will be a full set of PoF Legendaries just like there will soon be a full set of HoT Legendaries.
Perhaps but I doubt it. For one thing, if they follow their current pattern of releasing one or two legendaries per LS episode and if LS4 is as long as LS3 then they’ll have just about enough time to finish the HoT legendaries during LS4.
If LS4 is longer than LS3 or if LS5 also releases during PoF then they may make more Legendaries, ones that require PoF. Or they may “skip” PoF and add some Legendaries for the expansion that follows that one, either way they haven’t mentioned Legendaries for PoF.
The remaining HoT legendaries are Longbow, Greatsword, Focus, Warhorn, and Dagger… It’s actually quite possible that some of them will be completed and released during the PoF pre-release event that’s coming up soon… if not all of them… While yes, they did say “during the next LS updates” they also said more recently that the HoT legendaries would all be completed in time for PoF’s release. and if LS4 runs after the events of PoF then we won’t be seeing LS4 for a while and I guarantee they won’t make people wait that long for the completion of the HoT legendaries.
What PoF pre-release event? I missed that. I missed the announcement that the HoT legendaries would be finished before PoF too. Do you mean the upcoming open/beta weekends? Well, if the HoT Legendaries are finished before PoF then that’s great!
Yeah, it’s possible they will continue adding Legendaries after they finish the HoT Legendaries but I wouldn’t expect a set of PoF Legendaries. I mean there may be some Legendaries that require PoF (in fact, I think you’re probably right that there will be some) but I don’t think they’ll commit to producing another set of them. That’s a lot of Legendaries and the rate HoT legendaries have been released at is used as a stick to beat them far too often.
Again, thanks, as I haven’t finished ley line gliding yet.
Oh, you definitely should when you can! It’s fantastic!
Um, that’s what “extra” means — that they are surplus to requirements (although you do get an AP each, so they aren’t worthless). The new Masteries will provide new solutions for PoF but it doesn’t mean there won’t be uses for the old ones, HoT bouncy mushrooms, updrafts and leylines appear in LS3, for example, so they could appear in PoF too. They can’t and won’t be the only way to get around as that would create a dependency on HoT but might give an alternative to some of the PoF masteries at places. At the least I’d expect a few updrafts in places around PoF.
If nothing else Gliding will always be useful to safely get down from places and if you can bring your mounts to the HoT maps (I believe you can, you can bring them to core Tyria, after all) then those would be really useful in getting around there (for example, the bunny mount could act a bit like a portable bouncy mushroom, the raptor give a good way of crossing gaps and so on).
There’s an ever increasing amount of lore related stuff building up in my bank and on my packmule alts.
I wish they’d turn the home instances into something more like the guild hall and allow us to add bookcases and plinths that we can use to store, display and access stuff.
Edit: an elixir case would be pretty cool too.
I thought the new weapons (besides Ele) had new skills.
The Elementalist has a lot of new weapon skills with sword. The number 1 and 2 skills are unique to sword and differ with each element as you’d expect. The number 3 skill is like the Thief number 3 skills when they’re Dual Wielding; it changes depending on which attunements you’ve selected, so if you’re Fire and Water it’s different that if you’re Fire and Earth or Fire and Fire. Unlike Thief Dual Wield skills which only apply when you’re wielding two weapons they also get this on Staff.
It sounds fantastic and might be enough to make me switch mains, TBH.
As others have said the elite specs give each class a new weapon (new weapons skills) and new utility, healing and elite skills that work with those specs they also add new class mechanics, these are often skills. HoT also added a “special action” concept, this special action is a skill that becomes active in certain situation most often in boss battles in raids but also in the latest Living Story.
So they have added lots of new skills.
It’s rather moot, though, as if the Devs could easily cut up the pieces of Outfits and offer them for sale, they would have done that in the first place. In fact, they wouldn’t even create Outfits, but just offer individual Armor items.
And there is the truth. If it was so easy they’d still be making armour sets, not outfits.
Edit: also I don’t believe there are PoF Legendaries planned, Mike O’Brien said that they will finish the HoT legendaries in upcoming LS releases and those will only require HoT to complete.

Considering the fact that I was able to start LS3 beforw I bought HoT… you will still get access to LS4 even without PoF… you will not however, get access to PoF raids or legendaries.
You shouldn’t have been able to start LS3 without HoT, yes you could unlock the episodes and add them to your account by logging in but in order to actually play them you’re supposed to require HoT.
I also can’t imagine trying to do anything in Bloodstone Fen, for example, without the Gliding and Mushrooms Masteries, the fall just getting out of the airship would kill you.
I believe that LS4 will similarly require PoF, you will be able to unlock them by logging in when they’ve been added but you won’t be able to actually play the episodes without PoF.
Edit: also I don’t believe there are PoF Legendaries planned, Mike O’Brien said that they will finish the HoT legendaries in upcoming LS releases and those will only require HoT to complete.

That outfit is a throwback to GW, or so I’m told.
Wrong outfit I think. That’s not a Sunspear, that’s a Sunspear Marshal (Kormir, in fact). These are very close to the actual GW1 Sunspears.

People thought X was going to be disappointing before trying it. After they tried it, they found it was actually pretty great.
Yeah, but Dragonhunter was the same until it turned out to be definitely a terrible spec.
But that isn’t the point of the comparison that was being made to get you to see that claiming something is going to be bad without trying it isn’t a sure thing.
I think the word for the OP is inconsolable or maybe disconsolate. They assume Firebrand is going to be terrible and they do not want to be comforted or consoled or indeed to see any possibility that it won’t be terrible.
It’s not feasible for ArenaNet to make a new, better spec than Firebrand in less than two months and there is no real feedback here; saying it’s “really underwhelming” is not really actionable. Mind you, I’m not sure what kind of useful feedback anyone could give until we have a chance to use it.
Personally, I’m curious about Firebrand, it will be nice to have another/better condi options for Guard.
Not really, but you can get next one on your alt :o I deleted mine long ago because it was super ugly (and soulbound) and didn’t know about quest back then, I thought It’s next trash item (just like 90% of drop in gw2 but meh)
You deleted your broken Caladbolg? You know if you want you can get it back by (according to the wiki) “Trading 10 Bottles of Elonian Wine with Miyani. This can only be done if you no longer have the original sword and have talked with Ridhais.” If you want to finish the storyline and get a cheap ascended weapon (where you can swap the stats for 1,000 Unbound Magic)
HAH! That Asura looks like he has abs. I need it now. Thanks lol.
PS: But yeah, the kilt definitely needs to be a loincloth or much shorter. But even the helm is a win, showing those ears/horns.
Hey! We Asura do have abs!
They’re just beneath a protective layer of skin…
and fat.
Rather new to pvp. Playing mostly unranked games. I’m shocked at how nasty and unpleasant some people are in pvp.
Not even asking if someone is new or work out a plan. Just flying off the handle and using extreme swear words. Its disgusting behaviour, totally uncalled for and extremely childish.
We’re not curing cancer or playing for world piece here! doesn’t hurt to be nice..Yup.
Yest another reason to ditch PVP. Come to WVW instead, hop on your server TS at prime time during any of the open raids, tell people you are new and looking for some help, you’ll be right down amazed and never look back.
I’d have to say I second that, WvW has been a joy for me, people are really nice and there’s a sense of “hey, we can do this… together!” while my clearest memories of PvP are someone ranting for 8 minutes about why we all suck, how they hate us and how we’re never going to win… and we WON! 4-5 (because he was in spawn typing) we won and even afterwards he was still whining all because at the start we got wiped on mid.
I sometimes wonder if shorter matches would cheer people up. 300 point games, for example?
Fractals are already being added every few months, I don’t see why they would stop doing that with PoF.
You mean 3 fractals in 1.5 years? And not a pack of fractals with new expansion? Just look at WoW: every expansion start players with a bunch of dungeons +several dungeons during expansion. Okay, I get it, prior HoT fractals were a mess and it took you almost 2 years to fix it. But now basic mechanics are fixed, can we get some content, please?
It was three fractals between 26th July 2016 and 25th July 2017. That’s three in just under a year. Not to mention the raid releases during that time. All without a subscription.
Sure I’d like more too (and some more support for guild missions) but I think it’s fair to say they ArenaNet have been getting better at this stuff and are actually starting to deliver at a decent rate. Sure it can be improved but it’s not that bad.
It was the plan to bundle all future expansions when they add a new one but they changed that plan.
I suppose they realised that asking people who already owned both base GW2 and HoT to once again pay €50 for the new expansion wouldn’t go down well. There was a lot of anger over the fact that you had to buy GW2 again when you bought HoT.
Now people who already own HoT can buy this expansion for €30 and those who don’t already own it can get both HoT and the new expansion for €50. Think of it as a reward for people who already own the previous expansion.
WvW and PvP updates will come as feature packs…
Seems to be the case, as with HoT the WvW and PvP additions are the elite specs, all future WvW and PvP updates will not require the expansion.
A few of my friends have come over from another game recently and are playing on free accounts. They would like to purchase the HoT unlocks but have been holding off until the announcement of the PoF release date.
I just took a look at the bundle postings and they indicate that PoF and the core Central Tyria is included; however, there is not indication of whether the HoT content is as well.
Can you please confirm or deny that HoT is included in this price?
Thank you for clarifying!
HoT is not included in the price, however you can add HoT to your cart when buying PoF and receive a discount.
I’m honestly prepared to laugh my ass off on Tuesday when the announcement disproves a lot of the supposedly leaked information.
So I take it your ass is still firmly attached? :P
Mine was ready, until I kept getting this when trying to pre-order…
“403 – Forbidden: Access is denied.
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.”
I got a “redirected too many times” error when I tried to use my wallet.
Hey Atonement,
There will be VOD on Twitch, for sure. I think we’ll make this pretty easy to find and view, though, as Fluff suggested.
Surely it’s not THAT big a deal.
The HoT stats thing is pretty huge, with these I’ll have “free” Minstrel head, shoulders, gloves and boots for me elementalist for WvW.
One of the reasons mystic forge recipes command high premiums on the TP is that it takes a long time. Make it easier to promote mats in bulk and we’d lose a lot of the value for doing so. That’s not necessarily a bad thing; it is something that ANet has to consider before making a change.
Really? I always thought that mystic forge recipes command high premiums because most players don’t know anything about them.
I mean if you want to promote a few thousand materials then yeah, I can see how it’s time consuming but if you just want to promote a few hundred then it’s not so bad surely?
Either way, I’m not that bothered about TP prices, I’d just rather not have to do a few thousand mouse clicks to make a legendary: the most epic part of the journey should not be sacrificing a mouse.

There’s a booster that auto-spawns a vendor NPC if your inventory is full; it doesn’t require a troll.
I would guess that this is what’s happening, I see the same thing all the time near random Winterberry nodes.
It’s a minor inconvenience that’s easily worked around so it’s hardly a good “troll”, just a waste of a BL Merchant if that’s what they were using.
I hate to think of the amount of clicks I have done promoting materials in the forge…
Instead of a “repeat last” I’d like a dialog box to pop up and ask “how many repeats would you like?” and then you select the amount and hit go, with a confirmation.
That’d be cool too.
I’d like them to completely rebuild the entire Mystic Forge interface to function more like a crafting page (in that you unlock the recipe once via a discovery page that looks like the current MF interface, then subsequent uses would allow you to choose what you want to Forge from the list of unlocked recipes).
Forging random gear would continue to use the current MF interface (i.e. the “Discovery” panel).
That would also be great.
A repeat last, an option to specify the number of attempts or some other change to make it more like crafting, I don’t mind how they solve this but please, for the love of the eternal alchemy, please, please stop making us double click stuff in our inventory then hit forge repetitively.
I was making Mystic Clovers for my legendary. It takes 9 clicks per forge attempt, on average 231 attempts to make 77 Mystic Clovers that means it takes over 2000 clicks just to make the Mystic Clovers for a legendary.
I know there’s a recipe with a chance for 10 clovers too but forging shouldn’t be so kitten repetitive, I made about 60.
I have the mats for my second legendary and to be honest the Mystic Forge is all that’s putting me off doing it; it’ll take hours of mindless clicking to make all the Mystic Clovers and Charged Lodestones I need.
Yes please, I was thinking about exactly this when I was making Mystic Clovers, Molten Lodestones and Destroyer Lodestones.
A “repeat last” would be fantastic; just try to put an item with the same id in each of the 4 slots.
The “leaked” information for HoT proved to be completely unreliable. The “leaked” information for GW2 turned out to be completely bogus. The “leaked” information for this next expansion has changed so drastically with each new “leak” that it’s quite obvious they are faked. I’m honestly prepared to laugh my ass off on Tuesday when the announcement disproves a lot of the supposedly leaked information.
The only real information we have about the next expansion is that it’s going to start out in the Crystal Desert, and potentially go all the way into Elona. Balthazar will be a central figure in the story. And there will be a new set of Elite Specs. Past that we know nothing.
Yeah, dunno about how the “leak” has changed but we’ve seen rather a lot in the recent big “leak”. We’ve seen maps, masteries (including mounts), the elite spec unlock trees (including the weapons and names) and there’s been a lot more. I say “we’ve” but I saw a couple of screenshots with a lot of information in them and decided I’d rather find out more when it was closer to release.
After that particular leak Mike O’Brien made a somewhat pointed warning about spoiling things for yourself:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/68vw84/flashpoint_devs_here_ask_us_anything/dh1pm80/
Now perhaps aspects of these leaks have been changed since they were leaked but the leak only occurred late May so there hasn’t been a huge amount of time for them to change stuff and if they’re fake then they’re fake (and someone seriously put in an incredible amount of high quality work on those fakes).
Either way, fake or not, it’s no skin off my ears. I’ll be looking forward to hearing about the expansion tomorrow.
If they actually make it so that you can return to exactly where you were before – like you can if you visit the Heart of the Mists, WvW or your guild hall, that would actually get me to buy one of these passes.
That’s the main thing that’s put me off getting them before.
Me too, I’d get this one in a heartbeat if they do that.
I second the recommendation of gw2efficiency.com, it’s especially handy as you can alt-tab to your browser and search while in-game without needing to be by your bank.
Yes and no, I think people would be suprised how little benefit legendarys bring.
There is still the issue of:
- weapon sigils not changing
- there usually only being 1 toptier endgame build
- people with legendarys usually have no small amount of ascended. I had 7 full ascended sets done before finishing the legendary light armor. Could have easily used 2-3 of those sets for my now legendary carrying character
- the actual hassle of changing the stats. My mesmer is running 70% of the time in berserker stats which I will occasionally switch to commanders when I feel like it. That’s it.
Fair enough, that makes sense. Especially with respect to the sigil’s my sole Legendary Incinerator (made last month) has a Sigil of Force in it, until I can pop that out I won’t be bothering changing it all that much.
I can see where you’re coming from alright, my main is a Daredevil, I have 2 full medium ascended sets but I don’t switch builds on my daredevil much; power is best ATM, my ranger is currently using my Viper set and my Necro is using my ascended Viper dagger so there’s not much point in swapping around. I’m tempted to give the legendary to my elementalist, as she’d be able to get some use out of it in WvW at least.
I imagine that with a full legendary set I’d feel much the same. It’d be handiest on a character like an elementalist that you play in a lot of modes, for a (power) thief… well, you’re choosing between marauder and berserker really.
