Even with the health increase trait, spirits die in about 2 hits. You can place your spirit in certain spots if you dont have the movable spirit trait on, but you will lost too much damage.

Damage isn’t everything, and me being built to keep our GCs up longer and hitting harder tends to be better in instances then me going GC myself, that and I prefer that sort of play style.

I still really like the idea of spirits creating a combo field with their active, I think it’d be great if the active was also either ground targeted or target based instead of what it currently is…

I got a mesmer and a guardian in my group….. so my job is to maximize dps…

We’ve been losing forum wars for months and they’re the only ones keeping us in the game now. Its been four pages since anyone else from the server has posted, those are the kinds of coverage gaps that no one can come back from.

I was chasing a warrior in WvW and he turned in to mist form(similar to ele’s utility skill, invulnerable) for like 3 seconds.

The funny thing about Birdsong, is that he trolls, I mean he REALLY works at it….Little posts here and there, never of substance just of “bait”….Several people have warned SF about Os and the trolling….But I have a slight history with ol Birdy here….You see once upon a time when I bought this game my first server was none other than NSP!

And my first or second toon (honestly cant remember) was invited to be an O….I even tried out WvW back then as a noob who had spent most of his time in PVE and PVP….And do you know what I remember about my time in NSP and Os? I remember this blue tag that I thought was so cool (what a nub I know) was kind of a tough guy….I mean all he did was rage in chat all day because Devona’s Rest would roll over us like an afterthought as he led us to their zerg over and over….Eventually I left NSP due to the queue situation (meaning I didn’t like queues at all….) Bounced to ET, where I would eventually meet my soulmate, the beloved SF, whom I loved so much I paid to transfer to the week that free transfers went away or shortly thereafter.

I am currently a member of the [PvP] guild from SF.
Contrary to what many believe, we had given up the “zerg” mentality right before we moved up a tier. I can tell you that after a number of tier 1 guilds transferred over to the opposing servers and face rolling us countless times, we had to step back and rethink on how we were doing things. We do not simply win by running head first into our opposing team and “swing” “swing” away, AoE anything and everything in sight. We learned from our mistakes going up against these tier 1 guilds and got stronger as a guild. We redid our builds, we held tactical practices, we even got stronger as a server. It’s not just a bunch of portal bombs as many of you think. We had major drama against other guilds on SF but when we moved up a tier, we put it all behind us and began working together. We do not bash other players on forums, we take all name calling and bashings with a grain of salt. We learn from our mistakes and continue to grow as a guild, as a server. We look foward to seeing you all in the battle field, friend or foe alike and hope you have as much fun in WvW as we do.

I would really like to have you guys crash NSP harder, so our commanders will know that it is them who are doing it wrong.

We all know that any profession besides thief and ele will die fast, so you know which ones you should focus right? Crash the “nsp pride” and they will become nothing to you.

Edit: Ignore the PAXA or OXOX trolls, dont waste your time on arguing in forum. Kill them in the field.

I rerolled a thief like two months ago. While roaming around in wvw, I found killing rangers are extremely boring… As a noob condition dmg trolling thief, I spam d/d 3 and most rangers will be died… not fun =/

The advice given here for “Mesmer vs Thief” is pretty solid, so if they are a common problem for you, definitely commit it to memory.

I think one of the things the OP was getting at that hasn’t really been discussed much though was the fact that ArenaNet mentioned they nerfed quickness because:

In PvP, this speed gives most players almost no chance to react to incoming abilities and allows for massive spike damage in extremely short periods of time.

Despite this, the OP saw a thief do an immense amount of spike damage to them, despite having (I assume) decent toughness from knight’s + 10pts in Chaos.

In regard to this, I have to half agree. I think thief burst is something they are still looking at toning down (somewhat mentioned in a recent interview), but they for some reason think a thief should be able to “burst a bunker” (what?!) so are being slow about it. On the flip side, one of the reasons quickness was nerfed was because it allowed certain content (namely PvE) to be trivialized which doesn’t have anything to do with this. Furthermore, think of how quickly the Thief could have done that burst if they had used haste … even more ridiculous. Lastly, a Mesmer can do the same thing. It requires higher APM, but the DPS spike is there.

Oddly, in TA dungeon last boss on f/f path, I was able to hit almost every turret that is in front of the nightmare tree.

if i got rank on one toon i will play this one only.. not like GW1 where you could run different builds for HA and GvG and get title point. getting R15 HA was almost impossible. still a couple made it i was only 11:( but if those WvW titles take as long to get as getting to R10 HA its a pain! if it takes like 200 playing hours to get max title its still a bit of alt friendly.

I am sure it will be much more than 200hrs, as anet states that they will add new skills.

I usually wait for the enemy mesmer reach the portal place then I will call my server to camp at the begining. Easy 40+ tokens in about an hour. EB jp works as intend.

The EB jp is actually not that hard. I think the only annoying part is the arena, even without enemy players. There are several very hard jumps.

I used to be a person like you and I actually helped the enemies reach the top. But when they all turn around and chase me to death… you know, changing just a matter of time.

My server is not that good in wvw and sometime we just couldn’t find a single mesmer that can portal golems….

Imagine this: a thief player with a renowned wvw title and the siege dmg reduction from perks found that his server needs a mesmer, he hops on his lvl 80 mesmer with no title and found out both the enemy ballista can one shot him since the mesmer doesnt have siege dmg reduction and the teammate looks down on the mesmer cause he has a noob title.

You know what, I will just play for my own fun on thief. Forget about the server that needs my mesmer.

This so called “long term beneficial character based wvw skill system” will just prevent me playing anything other than my thief in wvw. Why should I go to a blank character when I spend most of my time on one of the best pvp profession in game and got almost every wvw skill unlocked her? “Build diversity”? Just do a re-skill feature and it will work as intend.

I believe there will be ppl that have no life lvl up all his/her alt’s wvw lvl, but I will not do it cause that investment doesn’t worthy it.

Makes the precursor a reward from a huge mission chain which takes lots of time and makes it account bound. Player still needs to buy mats from tp or farm them, but the precursor part becomes something that can be remember and actually means something epic but not just about gold.

Seems like you dont know about the exploit months ago.

Remove features like overflow and culling in pve, and make a real mmorpg(yeah, massive multiplayer online role play game). This will solve the problem as intend and it can even make the fight more epic. Introducing a new chest system that cuts off the rares is not a smart move.

I don’t agree with this change: yes it may solve the guesting problem but it also introduces other problems.

Actually, before you guys gonna make this new change, can you please update/fix the megadestroyer chest? I personally believe that is the most outstanding meta event in the game(needs a relatively organized group and a little bit skill). Other events are either tedious long or have some “grief locations”.

I did the destroyer event chest run yesterday. There were like a hundred players involved. I got greens and blues at the end. I asked around if anyone got anything good. Only two replied that they got crap drops. If someone got all rares I expect them to yell in chat but no one did. Did rare drop rate really increase?

The megadestroyer and Arah chests did not get buffed for some reason. They still only drop blues.

Here is a list of chests that have a >90% chance of dropping a rare:

Actually John Smith said it was actually closer to 100%. Remember the loot is scaled to your level. the near 100% chance is for a level 80, and also remember you can only loot the chest once per day, and that this is since the patch last Tuesday. After doing about 70 of the listed events I have averaged 1.3 rares per event, and have ALWAYS received at least 1 rare, not always armor, once I got a ruby orb

Confirmed. My first few boss fights before that post mainly gave me greens and blues. But I somehow started getting at least on rare from chests. Guess that was just another typical moment of rng not working on me.

offtopic: seen about 10+ teleporting bot actively farming ore nodes in last month. i added them to my contact and report them on a daily base for at least two weeks. About 3 script bot that farm specific locations in orr, added to contact and have been reporting them for awhile.

Ok, now I had a fully geared 80 mesmer, a nice geared 80 warrior, a fully geared 80 ranger, and a 20 thief. Currently working on thief, future guardian and ele.

For dungeons, I have carefully observed the group contribution of ranger, mesmer, and warrior. With a full zerker build, mesmer(sword/focus) and warrior(gs) deal the most damage, provide great group buff, and have decent survival chance as glassy cannons. Ranger, however, sucks so much because not only feline dies really quick but also the cooldowns on survival skills are just too long. Ramage As One is on of the best dps elite skill(same level as warrior’s elite signet) but there will be no significant damage bonus if my pet is down and swapping pet is on cooldown. With support build, warrior gives decent buffs(banners and shouts) and combo fields(longbow), mesmer apply too many buffs/debuffs(staff) and group ultility(time warp, illusion of life, null field, and feedback that allows me to solo TA spider boss), and ranger… I can’t really think about anything =/ Spirit? Yeah I was on full spirit build for a week and none of my spirit will last more than 30 seconds—even if I placed them properly. No need to mention I have to hide my pet in case it will go aggro some nasty creeps because of its weird movement. So why should I use my ranger on dungeon runs for both my pleasure and my group’s effectiveness?

For PvP, I usually use my mesmer(staff with prec/tough/condi), guardian(healing and condition), warrior(quickness 100b), and thief(dagger storm+stealth skills). I could easily kill any ranger that is the same PvP level as me, and may need to suffer a bit if they are like lvl 40 in PvP(but not often since I believe only few people will use ranger when they are above lvl 20 in PvP. They will usually use warrior, thief, and ele imo). I do use my ranger sometime and found ranger is extremely effective against toughness build engineer, but thats all. Most of the time I will be kitten by mainstream classes(yes, I know how to dodge and when to dodge and what to dodge). One thing I find very interesting is that ranger players usually have some bad temper: /laugh after they killed you or shout out when I continuously quickly kill them for a period of time. So why should I use my ranger not only because the ranger community sucks in some way but also I am getting much better result from other professions? Though I quit PvP like 2 weeks ago cause I don’t like bragging on how many ppl I have killed and how I could “possibly” win the duel between you and me, but on how many ppl I have helped(Queensdale and answering whatever questions or helping skillpoints/heart/vista is what I am talking about).

As for general PvE, this is the only area I like to use my ranger but only on specific tasks like: gathering, getting skillpoints that are heavily guarded, and roaming. I was using my ranger solo farming orr(cause I wasn’t able to tag anything with zerg) till I found out that my warrior could tag almost everything even with a huge zerg(much more effective). So I will use ranger a little bit but thats it.

When come to WvW, I didn’t even touch my ranger after they patch the Guard skill. Thief can eliminate reinforcement, mesmer can do ninja portal, and warrior can mess with anything. Ranger? Heck no.

I believe that some ppl are in love with their ranger no matter how bad the profession is—even defending it by saying they can play it well but I cannot. Please think about you group, you guild, and you server: What advantage have you brought as a ranger? Will the advantage be more significant if you are playing another profession? It is good for you to have some different opinion, but I love my group, my guild, and my server so I want to be more than a ranger.

Have you read my post before? I thought I explained why achievement points is not a issue. I could easily find some one, who is another profession, has more achievement points than you. Does that mean his profession is better? Or does your achievement thingy proof that ranger doesn’t suck?
