If you’re saying I can run a rifle, with Mecha Legs, and still be viable, I will be A-okay!
Though I’d think 06440 because IP got moved to Firearms, and Explosives as far as I see it don’t have great options now.
Also I forgot to say 06660 Because we can go 6 into 3 lines now.

Rozbuska, if you really think 50% rng swiftness proc in combat is comparable, then you’re delusional. Unless there is some special change I missed?
Rich, in every aspect of the game. Every single one. Convenience is an amazing asset. And mobility is more than convenience in PvP.Its still for 10s every 20s in pvp we can go 20% boon duration trait, medkit have another swiftness, you can also use toss from elixir B (it dont share cd). We can combine it with runes if it will be needed and dont mention that Mecha Legs is now in usefull line. Swiftness will be little bit harder to maintain then swaping kits but there is no challenge what engi cant handle:-)
Ok so when Kit Refinement randomly procs and puts you in combat and that slows you anyway so the swiftness is negligible I’ll keep that in mind.
Med kit is lovely, please show me a pvp or wvw build that uses it.
Inventions was never useful, and after the changes I might as well play a guardian or shoutbow.
I appreciate your optimism,I really do. But I’d give up most of the changes for the convenience and play of SPeedy kits+invigorating speed. But thats me.
Haha… Well, all the other stuff we are getting surely make up for that loss.
I’m being very hyped to dust off my engineer and isn’t even because of the unnanounced elite specialization yet!
Orbital lazor? Sign me in!
By the time you get to the fight it will be over I’m afraid.
do you know why you take 60044 instead of 60440 in spvp? amr is better than the entire tools line, so its not cuz of speedy kits.
Actually most Engineers on the Eu circuit have swapped to 60062 Because of PI, so pls keep up.
And yes they go the extra 2 in tools for Speedy kits.
its meh of them to do so when every warrior ever is shoutbow nowadays. cuz PI hardcounters hammer warriors and is a wash against everything else compared to 60044.
so, back to the question.
Don’t ask me, but that is what they have started doing. I suppose outside competitive tournaments you run into all sorts of stuns in yolo queues.
And I suppose the Power Wrench+Inertial Converter has something to do with it. Seeing as Vamp runes are run by almost everyone now, IC synergizes well with it, and I suppose you’d have to be hit in Mist Form (which you obviously can’t be) to get the proc off AMR. And anyone who gets the chance to hit you below 25% after vamp proc finishes will just burst you down?
This is just the guess of a 29 day old Engineer.
You can say why AMR is amazing all you like, it doesn’t change the fact that Speedy kits change was unwarranted and hurtful of the enjoyment of the class for some, I.E. Me. Since Engi is a class I have fallen in love with, it hurt deeply.
There professions not classes love
Yeah I still make that mistake sometimes because I played Gw1 for 8 years-ish.
You really didn’t have to quote my whole post just to add nothing but a semantics reply.

It has ruined it for me and some others. Other Engineers don’t care about speedy kits evidently.
Some people just love the certain aspects of a class, and being pushed to full support rather than a skirmisher with support-tendencies ruins my fun. So I am not happy.
Oh well, nothing I can do.

Who specs into inventions Lol, might as well delete my Engi
I didn’t play it to play Shoutbow V2
Speedy kits nerf has ruined like 50% of my enjoyment on the class. So sad… If Engi meta becomes Condi again I’m done. Pistol Is such a boring and lame weapon set.
That feel when people who don’t play engi come here to mock those that do. Lol so mature.
Not about visual cue for me, I would just like to see the rifle on my Charr’s back mid kit, purely cosmetic venture in my eyes :P
I am so happy to hear the good news!
Honestly your character looks anything but happy.
Mine is skeptical and wants to at least wait till patch.
What will come of it? He doesn’t know.
I agree with this notion :o, let us stow!
I would like to propose a buff to thieves with adding the ‘Revealed’ boon on stealth to every thief skill that applies stealth.
I also think all the Shadow Steps need a buff. I think they should have a chance to fall through the map floor when they make contact with the intended surface. If this RNG procs in their favour ‘reliably’, they should be awarded with the boon of immobilize for 5 seconds. This buff would encourage true Risk/reward gameplay. Using your shadowsteps at the risk of falling out of the map is a double edged sword by design.
I am willing to hash out my balance ideas in a thread if you’d like.
Reputation and recognition among your peers I guess? Like, even if some randoms recognize your prowess, you gotta be doing something right I suppose.
I am less bothered by the tool kit thing surprisingly enough, cause you get a wrench.
I see what you guys are saying but the projectiles hanging off the bomb kit look way more like nades imo.
Only bring back SAB if you are bringing back the Super Skins. Otherwise, keep SAB, don’t want.
I only want the skins atm, and I am sure there are some others who think this too.
Yes it can! \o/ To the engi mustard race!
My favourite form of map travel+roof hopping is dying. It was fun while it lasted, but I will leave you for greener pastures.
RIP my friend, let us all RIP together in this RIP thread.
My OCD is triggered. If you look closely, Engineer bomb kit looks like a kit of grenades and grenade kit looks like a kit of bombs on your chars back…. WTF.
I know back kits are going anyway but still… seems a bit silly. I suppose I am almost 3 years too late to the party though.
Mesmer – Are very biased towards their profession, to the point they will defend against any nerf. The love they have for their class is admirable however, and they show an endearing passion in all aspects Mesmer. In fact, they are the only class to have their own subforum guild in game. Official Mesmer Forum Guild.
What? Mesmers will declare almost anything on the class as OP and accept any change they recieve as the strongest thing ever and hate people who disagree.
They have a weird S&M thing going on over there.
I did disclaimer that everything about this thread and my reply is all a subjective experience. Without a doubt you have probably experienced just what you wrote and that is now your opinion of the Mesmer community.
Liar x.X
We Rangers do actually have a subforum guild x) , and yes it still exists.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Favorable-Winds-Wind-Ranger-Guild/first
Apologies! I didn’t know this. I haven’t seen them around really, and often I saw the Mesmer one, so I was fairly sure there was only a Mesmer one. I know another class at least tried and failed at this due to lack of interest, can’t remember which one though.
Toxicity towards rangers from non rangers is WAY higher than for most classes imo.
False Lol. Though rangers have garnered a lot of criticism from the other classes over the last few months thanks to the Pew Pew LB Spec, by far the most hated class that receives toxicity is Thief.
Honestly, due to stealth, there has never been any classes which has had as much of a pitchfork hate mob for as long of a time as Thief, go to their subforum and see.
To OP:
I honestly think this is a thread made of personal experience and bias, backed up by the same personal experience and bias. Not everyone’s experience with classes is going to be the same, and you can’t just pretend there is an overall attitude in classes which applies to everyone’s experiences. Example. Here are my experiences:
Ranger – Quiet and generally only speak when spoken to, but don’t have much to say on any other class. They tend to shy out and not give much retaliation if told something negative about their class. I.E. “Your class is no skill no brainer.” “Longbow Ranger is ez.”
Necros – Depressing af. Literally, it is so hard to meet a positive necro about any aspect of the game, whether that is warranted or not you can decide. They will herald every change as life or death, and usually it wont meet their expectations then half of the community will rally that it is okay and they can work with it, and the other half will call doomsday.
Thief – kitteny, somewhat arrogant but if recognized and acknowledged as decent they will soften up quickly. However in the flip side if you slight their ego by killing them in a PvP match for example they will hunt you all game.
Elementalist – Very whiney. I have a very good friend who has mained elementalist for 3 years and even he says it. They often complain about a lot, and despite them having just as many good players as any other class, they are very vocal about any small change, reflex like in their hyperbole of it. Also they believe they are the pinnacle of skill.
Mesmer – Are very biased towards their profession, to the point they will defend against any nerf. The love they have for their class is admirable however, and they show an endearing passion in all aspects Mesmer. In fact, they are the only class to have their own subforum guild in game. Official Mesmer Forum Guild.
Warriors – Are another class dunked on a lot and have been since the start of the game by others. Almost as much as thief, and they don’t even half stealth. Due to this I imagine, they have grown a very thick skin and tend not to be very open to outsiders who don’t play the class. That said, they also offer very constructive criticism of their own and are very quick to dispel anyone who doesn’t contribute anything but negativity over a patch. Very hardy. They tend to resemble a frat house at times.
Guardian – A polar opposite to warrior. They have had a lot of love, and appreciation since the start of the game, not just by developers or anything, but players too. This has given them a smiley persona and they are quick to help others. Sadly due to this in my opinion they find it hard to deal with criticism and of late have been lulled into a false sense of skill due to the notorious Med guard build pretending to be such.
Engineer – They are opinionated and very passionate about Engineer, just as much as Mesmers are. In fact, interestingly enough on http://guildwars2viz.com/ it shows them both as the least played class. It wouldn’t surprise me if their niche play style and tight-knit community were the reasons for such a hardcore love for their class. They also like Elementalists believe they are the skill- class. Uniquely, they are also generally very quirky and have weird humour which takes time to appreciate.
Obviously, all of this can be completely opposite to what you experience, and that is the point, this is all a subjective experience on what you have encountered.
As for me? I main Engineer right now. Though I have had extensively play time and exposure to most classes and their communities.
I echo what others have said on this being a casual, unfun PvE cake with WvW cream ontop.
If I wanted to PvE or WvW, I would PvE or WvW.
There’s no need for them to be in the mists together or anything, just let them fight in the same arena. I don’t see how that would use up any significant resources since you’re not transferring anything over – just standard PvP buillds.
I don’t think you understand how the system works.
Every arena is going to be based in either EU or NA. If they mixed the arenas, then this would create a significant disadvantage for people playing in the opposing region since they would all suffer from a higher ping.
Actually I live in the US and play on an EU server (historical reasons and I’m too cheap to transfer!) . I’ve been PvP’ing from the start and don’t really face any ping issues.
Great for you. I do, and I am from the EU and have a spare NA account. On my best days my lowest ping on NA is 200+.
The ping would be too much of an issue for competitive.
They could however allow cross region play in hotjoins for the giggles, it wouldn’t really matter.
EDIT: and Custom Arenas ofc
I find it far more annoying when someone is killed by a group in certain scenario’s and says “Lol 3v1”
Player A runs into a group of us and tries to kill us for his Yolo pvp montage or something? Gets rekt ofc then says Lol 3v1… As if he or she didn’t run into said fight knowing the odds.
Another pet peeve is when Player A is having a fight and of course per the nature of conquest teammates arrive to help and you kill them and they make a silly comment.
Because yes, we should of walked away and let you guys 1v1 even though our teammate would of lost and we would of lost the point leading to other issues for our match.
Lol. Seriously is it mandatory for some people to be dropped on their heads before PvPing? :>
Ellen is blatantly behind all the issues in Tyria! I’ll never trust her! And you shouldn’t either!
EVON FOR LIFE!
So recently I have noticed that a new bug is rampant. A visual bug where my back piece disappears AFTER unequipping a kit sometimes on my engineer.
My engineer is a Charr for reference, and when I put on tool kit then un equip sometimes my back piece (which is a Fractal Capacitor for reference) won’t reappear and I will have to re-quip or tick and un-tick it’s option for showing to make it reappear. It happens often enough that this is now annoying and my back piece completes my look.
Any one else get this? Could Anet give us some word that they are aware and will take a look at this when possible?
I’d rather a skip tutorial option after like your 10th character made.
Fixed for me! \o/
My character was at black citadel?
Could it be that one of our characters on the account in question is stuck in a part of LA that is closed off following the patch to it?
Uhtameit making the world a better place one thread at a time.
Also mine is having this issue, WHY! Q_Q
Weapon swap is a big issue with this concept yes, but it is always possible they would lose it as a side effect.
It does however seem the issues with this concept far outweigh the possible benefits and gameplay.
War needs some interesting play. Kits do not seem like that to me.
Think about what War needs and does not need. Group healing and stealth come to mind.
Now, what might War give up a little of? Mobility or dps are options.
Wars do need interesting play, stealth does not come to mind when I think as such.
On my thief I avoid the shadow arts line, because it is boring.
I wrote in the bold:
1. What is a good spot right now doesn’t matter with the huge revamps to every class. The meta will shift all over the place, all people can do is be pre-emptive irrespective of profession.
War will still be in the top 32. Spiked armor isn’t incredibly powerful which is why rarely any warrior takes it.
- It IS incredibly powerful in a minor slot. It doesn’t get taken now because it is competing with Defy, as you said. To give it out as a minor is fantastically OP.*
3. So as you can see none of these classes are objectively outcast all over the place.
You obviously didnt read that I stated they are good at roaming. None have a position in ANY meta outside of that.As a Ranger main, I can say the changes we got are very good, but I would give those changes just to get a GM trait the same as Fast Hands, its incredible. Anyone asking for it to be made baseline literally cares nothing about balance.
If you honestly don’t think engineer has a position in the SPvP meta you don’t pvp, they are one of the best things to happen to the game mode alongside the Cele trifecta right now…
Lmao…. You must be trolling me.
Interesting points guys, I realise Kits is a bit reaching in terms of possibility, but I thought it was worth bringing up as I don’t see many people using it as an option.
It is true though that there is a lot to consider in terms of weapon swap, what this could mean for Engi AND Tool belt F1-f4.
All points welcome!
Warriors have the best invul/evaid/block uptime in the game. Utility+heal stance, traited invul (and you can trait stances for more uptime), 5sec weapon swap for energy sigil, shield, gs evaid.
Endure pain isn’t Invul. That is why I specified Invulnerability. You can’t apply condies or CCs when Invulnerable.
You can mimick this effect if you Pop Berserker stance, Endure pain and Balance stance at once.
That is probably the dumbest thing any warrior can do though.
Heal Stance = Can be CC’d and locked down, so still not truly invulnerable.
Energy sigil isnt a class mechanic, and Dodge isn’t either, it is a general mechanic for all to use, so don’t use that as an example.
Shield block can be broken by being pulled by magnet, not invulnerable.
GS Evade is the closest thing we have to a class mechanic Invul.
Negating damage=/= Invulnerability.
I am picking up Engi again after a bit of playing it and I decided to make it a Charr this time!
This is just his leveling gear but I think it turned out pretty subtle but cool.
Like what have you accomplished so far like Tarcis for example? I don’t understand how you can say “Warrior has a low skill cap” when you have ZERO competitive play presence in sPvP and probably never had the mechanics OR resolve to try crazy things.
I agree with Tarcis when he says, Warrior is “easy to play yet hard to master.” That’s a more educated thing to say to be honest. You will get away with shoutbow and maybe 1 spam with frenzy axe, sure. But..
Dodge count/punish/bait mechanics is what defines high skill cap warrior. Why? Landing 1/2 second stuns take skill and is rewarding. If you’re bad at landing important things then you are bad at making Warrior builds without long bow work. Stun lock DPS Warrior builds work because it baits cool downs and dodges HARD and punishes people hard for when you bait stun breaks and dodges.
If you can’t understand that then you’re pretty much simply a Gold ELO Warrior at best to be honest and that you have much to learn.
Stop using my thread to promote yourself and accept that there are other good warriors out there. Just because my play presence isn’t in your circle doesn’t mean I don’t have any.
I don’t stream or record because I am lazy in that respect.
Once again you haven’t read anything I have posted. I never said Warrior was easy to master and up top you will see I say Warrior isn’t easy to master, there is just LESS of it to master. As a warrior I want more to master because I want more options for me to out play my opponents with.
I honestly don’t see where you have copped this defensive attitude.
Don’t lecture me on things I already know after I repeat 3 years in game mostly spent on Warrior.
Put up or shut up.
Or alternatively stop derailing my thread. I get it, you think you’re the peak of Warrior brilliance and you think despite not knowing anything about my play that it is trash.
We won’t agree here, instead lets discuss the idea of Kits for a Soldier Elite Spec.
I am guessing you’re in the NAY camp.
In the spirit of another thread which I saw on this section I’d like to open the platform to the dashing lot of the Asura mustard race!
Show off your handsome little fella.
Here is mine! (PS Ignore the text if you can…):
EDIT: WARNING CLICK THE IMAGE TO ENLARGE AT YOUR OWN PERIL!
This isn’t a question of them being unviable in high tier. It is that they have a much lower ceiling of skill and mastery than certain other classes. After hitting this wall myself, as have many other warriors in this community, it is a frustrating feeling to know that you have reached your peak because your class has simplistic design. In a sense, it limits your potential when Engineer and Thief don’t.
That was the point I am making. If anything, I feel warrior’s who have mastered it should be rewarded by giving them more to master and use, and that’s where this Elite spec could help. Kits just seemed thematically sound with a soldier in the jungle and active play.
It is a difficult topic. I’m not sure that mastery of the warrior is easier to achieve than mastery of other classes, although its inner potential does seem more limited in regards of some other classes.
Deepening that potential through the Elite specialization is a good idea. Thinking about it, I would primarily explore options related to hard control, e.g. more benefits on interrupts (Slow?), or possibly debuffing.
Kits would possibly expand the horizon of the warrior, but with 5 more additional skills per item, I suspect that they would probably bring too much to the class (as designed) – all the more than we’ll be receiving an F2 skill, which I hope be available to all weapons and trait lines.
Thank you for understanding. I never said Warrior was easy and I know it can be hard a lot of the time in higher tier play. I merely wanted to make it clear that I feel strongly that it limits its players due to its simplistic design which has the purpose of being a beginner class. It isn’t easier to master, there is just LESS of it to master which is restricting. That is my point. It restricts US as warrior players.
I wanted to express my optimism for the Elite Spec deepening, but sadly my thread was hijacked to promote a person’s twitch channel where he weapon swaps and rampages on eles.
It might not be kits but whatever it is, I hope it promotes more activity and potential for creativity in combat.
Like seriously if it’s so easy to pick up and play Warrior, so then make Chain CC Frenzy DPS work then?
Inb4 he says it isn’t viable and backs down. There’s a reason why I actually have competitive play presence with it and it’s because there is a legit reason to play a DPS that can delay a point on conquest.
I honestly think you’re one of those people never accomplished anything in the first place yet still thinks they can have a valid opinion. Things like that makes balancing fail, no offense.
Watch this PistolWhip kid back down folks. Waiting for you to take the challenge and inevitably back down and go back to easy DPS Guard/Ranger/Necro, cause I know you wouldn’t have what it takes in the first place to take actual challenge due to ignorance really.
On topic, elite specialization for Warr will probably be something out of the ordinary kinda like “Dragonhunter” for Guardian.
Acting like you know me again. Kid I did all those things years ago before it was cool. I have used Killshot warrior in Tournies and made it work. I don’t need lessons from some guy who thinks Stowing weapons is the pinnacle of skill cap. What have you actually accomplished that I wouldn’t have in the years of maining warrior in PvP? No offense, I think you’re full of kitten.
Honestly LMAO, to think you think stunning someone then rampaging to chain CC is so skillful and proof of your prowess. Good job man, that is so difficult. I bet you even timed it and baited out dodges+stunbreaks just to do it, you must be a real star!
There is no need to be so defensive because you think me stating a well known fact that Warrior has a lower skill cap than the more active classes somehow discredits you or your play.
Please, message me in-game and we can fight it out, talk is cheap.
Now if you want to stay on topic. I am not guaranteeing it will be kits but I think it fits with the Soldier in a jungle theme, which seems to be the direction this Elite spec is heading. Of course as any speculation I could be wrong.
Soldier with Kits 8D
If it’s such a low skill ceiling, then try doing this vs. competent players:
http://www.twitch.tv/blacktruth009/c/6269321
http://www.twitch.tv/blacktruth009/c/6259903I will call it right now, you will come crying back to DPS Guardian, DPS Necro or any of your instant cast easy to land DPS class. Calling Warrior a low skill cap class is ignorant and just shows how much you have accomplished on Warrior.
I guess stow weapon to bait dodges isn’t high skill cap and knowing how many hits you can land for every level of skull crack improvising whichever you land is easy and effective by your standards.
Granted that shoutbow takes no skill and is effective, DPS Warrior can be just as strong even though it’s much harder to play. It’s just that ignorant players like this guy don’t know how to bring out DPS Warr’s power tbh cause lack of mechanics and creativity.
I bet you think DPS Guard is high skill cap, in which case rofl Guard is actually a lot lower skill cap than Warrior.
What you showed me on the videos is extremely easy to accomplish and I have been doing such things since my first 1000 hours of Warrior. I literally anticipated far more when I clicked on the links. I would think any mediocre warrior at this point knew about the whole stow your weapon when you hit flurry to apply immob without needing to do the animation and anything similar to the stow weapon thing because it is easy. Yes baiting dodges by stowing your weapons mid animation to cancel a skill is easy after a certain point and you can do it on any class.
You’re making a lot of unfair and biased assumptions here. The fact is warrior is a low skill cap class but you seem to take this as an insult to your play. It isn’t. It is saying the class design restricts good players because it limits their potential which could be much higher if allowed. I mained exclusively the berserker GS/ Axe Shield combo for most of my play.
I have no idea where you thought I was a DPS guardian from. Please go to Angz 1v1 Server in EU or ask any of my PvP guildies what I think of DPS guardian. I think it is a carry build that has 2 negative effects on the player behind it which are huge.
DPS guardian isn’t just a normal carry build, it is a build that gives a false sense of skill. It actually makes people believe they are better then they are, because it feels more active than it actually is. This is the same with Longbow/GS power ranger ATM.
Don’t project your defensive biases on me. Everything you think is hard high skill cap play is extremely easy to be proficient at and a lot of other players do on other classes often to maximize their performance.
I have no idea why you would fight against the opportunity to give Warrior a more active play style from Elite Spec, allowing your and mine potential to be much higher. If you haven’t hit the wall yet for mastery of Warrior, you will soon and you will see what I and others have meant for years now.
EDIT: You evidently have no idea what I play. Because as I said before I have mained Warrior more than anything ever, with only Ele coming close. Have you played warrior for almost 3 years? If so, then we’d be on equal footing.
(edited by PistolWhip.2697)
The point is, Warrior is already in a great place, giving FH as a base is just absurd, you can’t have one class that gets half CD on weapon swaps compared to everyone else and then give them another minor trait in disc they can have too. You guys already got Spiked Armor as a minor in Defense and that is incredibly powerful. Warrior has a place in every game mode, the other classes you mention do not. Ranger = Outcast everywhere. Engineer = Outcast everywhere. Mesmer = Outcast everywhere. Except for roaming WvW, they are all good there. Warrior can do everything already and needs no more baseline. You guys got 3300 additional health as a baseline above those classes.
1. What is a good spot right now doesn’t matter with the huge revamps to every class. The meta will shift all over the place, all people can do is be pre-emptive irrespective of profession.
2. Spiked armor isn’t incredibly powerful which is why rarely any warrior takes it. If you want to discuss powerful traits in the defense line which get taken in it’s place, warriors take Defy Pain in 1v1 Scenarios especially the now popular 2/0/6/0/6. Or Merciless Hammer a major trait when running hammer for obvious reasons. Spiked armor is very rare.
3. The classes you mentioned do have places. Ranger is quite popular in roaming/WvW they can be found very easily. In Spvp in low to mid tier play Pew Pew longbow ranger is very popular and I have heard it has creeped into some higher tier tournament play. EDIT: I forgot to add that Rangers are a very popular choice in all facets of PvE (hence the bearbow and knocking back enemies trope), and are a very popular choice for beginners of the game due to their innate passive effectiveness in said game mode.
You’re obviously wrong about Engineer, badly so. In WvW they roam Condi a lot, though granted I don’t think they are as often as some other classes. In Spvp their position is cement atm, and they are part of the big Cele meta setup on a lot of teams so I have no idea how you can even call them an outcast when they are one of the strongest and most popular PvP classes. Evidently you don’t PvP. In PvE they are very viable, and arguably can and do get used a lot because they have good damage and great Vuln stacking as well as a fair share of blast finishers if used effectively. I believe they were ranked 3rd in Single target Damage after Thief and Ele a few months back for optimum group setup. I doubt their position has shifted much in this ranking.
Mesmers granted are questionably popular in PvE. Their utility is undeniable, but I do hear a lot of mesmers complain they feel outcast here. In WvW they are one of the mainstays for utility and amazingly useful in group fights and zerg fights still. OF course lets not forget portal sneaking and capping under the nose of the enemy. In Spvp their relationship is love/hate. They seem to fluctuate in popularity as far as I can tell.
So as you can see none of these classes are objectively outcast all over the place.
4. Baseline stats mean little passed beginner and PvE. This is evident from the fact that many classes with lower stats and hp pools do in fact beat Warriors in any game mode. This whole ‘Warriors have moar stats so OP hurp’ thing needs to stop. I’m sure a lot of warriors would give up hp+armor for reliable protection up time, sustainable active game-play and invulnerability. These things are just more useful in practice.
In regards to OP, Fast hands being baseline works thematically though even on Warrior I’d feel it could be a bit much but I don’t know, I’d think it was worth a test run.
And I think warrior’s sprint is unnecessary because it is being combined with Mobile Strikes. 2 of my favourite traits.
I’m not sure that kits are plausible for a warrior. A warrior is a so-called “master of weapons”, with Fast Hands allowing for a good usage of weapons’ rotations. He does not use anything else beside weapons, and its conjured utilities (banners) have no AI. Kits do not fit that philosophy, in that they’re instantly invoked and switchable (gadgets could, on the other hand).
The warrior class is paradoxical. It is indeed more forgiving, given its high starting stats, so can be friendly to beginners. However, this can be counterproductive for the student: where’s the need to dodge, blind, chill, protect or aegis when you can seemingly tank damage? Most beginner warriors die at first without understanding why, and in that perspective the warrior class is one of the worst to start the game with.
At high level, I don’t think that the warrior is inferior to other classes. What it lacks (teleports, stealth, AI support, defensive boons and conditions) is compensated by other advantages (fast weapons rotation, mobility, hard control, innate tankiness). A warrior has not the elegance of a mesmer or a thief, but it has more ferocity.
Hey guys I posted this on Reddit and I wanted to hear more views so I thought I’d give it a post here too. As the weeks/months lessen toward the launch of HoT we are all theory crafting and speculating on the new Elite specs.
One of the most mysterious ones is ironically Warrior, as it has gained very little exposure. So here is my speculation:
As we have seen all the new Elite specs take mechanics from another class and fused it with the core class to come out with something new and refreshed, often covering areas un-explored by the core class.
I say what I say after this with the 3000+ plus on a warrior when I used to main it, and I don’t mean to discredit any good warrior player. It is however an Entry tier class. It is a very simple class with simple mechanics that have a lot of passivity like Guardian, Ranger and to an extent Necromancer. That said, aside from Shoutbow it is actually very hard to break past the restrictive barrier in the Warrior design philosophy in high tier levels because at that point you’re restricted by a ceiling of how much you can do. Essentially you hit a wall, that is far quicker to hit than say Thief or Engineer. This is what I believe is referred to as Skill ‘cap’?
The reason I mention this is because I believe as with Guardian’s virtues changing and Necromancer’s changes they are trying to make passive mechanics in classes more active and using Elite Specs to open up this style so they can keep the Entry tier healthy for the newer player base. Which is fairly clever.
Now a lot of people see Soldier as a very viable Elite spec to warrior, and if Warriors become Soldiers with a Pistol, what is very plausible for a bunch of soldiers entering the wilderness of a jungle in guerrilla warfare? Kits. Yes I think Kits will be the Soldier’s new mechanic, featuring their own unique style Kit utilities added. This would also go hand in hand with my above observation of active style gameplay being brought to passive classes.
What do you guys think? Do kits make sense?
