You’re all arguing over something that is changing here in the next week or so, and they have already mentioned they are adding in other ways to obtain Laurels.

I liken the people complaining here to people who want to open their Christmas presents on Thanksgiving.

If they add other ways, I’ll get my work done faster and will relax sooner.

Also, umm, I hate to tell you this? But for the last few years I knew what my Christmas presents were going to be by the second week of October. Usually the answer is “nothing”, or “a quiet day with no family drama”.

My point being they are adding in more ways to get laurels, they are in the process of doing and have stated they are doing so, but people would rather keep complaining until it happens because they want it now.

"Assault on Svanir's Dome" event unrewarding

I agree…. whenever this event chain is up…. I see people asking for help… and I usually swing by to assist…. but when the event is over…

It is very anti-climactic…

You kill a champion boss… and there is no chest or closure to the event like…. YEAH!

People always ask…. “No chest?” in map chat… and you can tell that everyone is generally disappointed when the chain ends.

To be honest though, this zone is camped to death because of the Maw event as it is. When the Maw event takes less than 5 minutes to complete there is no challenge. The dome is the same way when it’s working – unless you are on a really under populated server.

Regardless though, as I stated above they have actually pinpointed this to be a problem with the game recognizing participation level for DE’s but not for loot on some vets and champs and that is being patched next week so that they will at least drop a blue item or better.

The bigger issue is that this is event is bugged more than it is working. It’s been weeks since I have seen it working on Tarnished Coast and whenever it does get reset it bugs within a day or two.

As to the loot, they have already stated there was an issue where people were getting full participation karma and gold status for completing champion events but not the credit for loot and they are going to be addressing that in the patch next week.

I don’t have the link for it but it was posted here just yesterday.

Some small things I can think of would really depend on how Anet is staffed. One thing that I miss in MMO’s is something I have not really seen since the days of EQ. Live GM run events.

I love that this game is the way it is. Once I’ve leveled a couple alts and gotten bored with all there is to do I can do something else, play something else. Now people will argue that therein lies the flaw, but I say it is the exact opposite.

Edit: They could even have different jobs people could do in zones as well. Someone could be a tax collector and in order to keep that job they would have to visit villages and farms etc in the zone they are responsible and bring in so much a month or whatever. This would also give people reason to revisit zones where they have cleared it 100%. Maybe the player could trigger DE’s occasionally as well. Maybe they get jumped by bandits and they can appeal to people in the zone to fight them off or risk losing the taxes collected and possibly their job.
So many other games out there are what everyone is used to in an MMO. Hit 80, gear up to hit harder content to get gear to hit harder content and so on and so forth. PvP if that is your thing.

GW2 lets me be as committed or non committed as my desire to play is. I don’t feel like I need to be on for so many hours a day to get something done. I’m usually doing what I want to do except when I am doing dailies, and I enjoy those as well – it gives me a daily goal that I can bang out in under 30 minutes if I want, but usually I just complete it by playing the game.

I think people have a hard time accepting that it’s ok to run out of things to do and play something else. This is a game that will be constantly changing and having things added so there will always be a reason to keep booting it up if you take a break.

If that’s not what you want, there are a lot of MMO’s out there that subscribe to the normal style so play those if that is really what you are looking for!

I know, you want this game to have it all, but it can’t. None of them do.

The very problem is though that that so many areas are blank with nothing to do. Honestly, there is no reason to visit any main city other then la once you have the map completition done. Taverns that have no purpse, they exist for the sake of existing. And again just add rewards to jp which is so so so easy to do then suddently you have reused an old machenic and people are actually doing it!

Who else thinks this is a good idea?

I can see some upsides to that. Maybe they could add in some political or social benefits as well. Run for different offices, have elections, have player owned taverns or something. That would give people reason to be in the towns more.

Edit: Perhaps players could also have jobs such as tax collector and they could be responsible for a certain zone. They would need to bring in so much money a week/month in taxes or risk losing their position to someone else. This would give people reason to go to zones they have already completed 100%.

Maybe the players could also have a chance to trigger DE’s as well. Say the tax collector gets besieged by bandits and the player can appeal to people in the zone to come to his aid or risk losing the taxes collected and then probably his job as well if he doesn’t get assistance.

GW2 being very casual friendly really leaves it up to the individual to make it feel like an MMO or if they so choose a single player game with occasional MMO interactions.

What I mean is that there are a lot of people that are very active in their guilds, in the community, in RP events and more. Others are content to plug along doing their own thing and grouping up when needed or not at all if they choose to.

There is so much freedom of choice that for some it is too much freedom of choice and in that lack of structure they flounder a bit.

Personally I do think the multiple guild system is flawed but others like it. Out of all the things listed by the OP though I think that is one of the valid points – all others I think are highly subjective.

Anyone feel like a hero?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Poledo.3256

Poledo.3256

being a hero doesn’t mean strutting around in your shiniest gear never getting a spot of dirt on it except when facing a dragon solo in which it would give up based on the shininess of your gear.

really, being a hero(especially one of the common people) usually means connecting with the common people on every level of their lives. so what if you have to go plugging holes in a leaky pipe? you just saved a town’s water supply and their agriculture.

so what if you have to go rounding up cows to put back in their pens? that’s less time a farmer has to spend chasing runaways instead of growing crops to feed his family

lastly, didn’t you ever watch Hercules? being a hero doesn’t mean only doing the best things. it means doing your best at any given task.

/rp hat

This is pretty much what I was going to say. Just because a Hero may do heroic things, but they can’t spend every waking hour doing heroic things. Sometimes they just live life like the rest of us.

As for the quests. Heart quests take a few minutes at most and there are usually about 15 in a zone and if you do events as you explore the zone, half the time you end up completing the quest at the same time.

Which alt can compete with a warrior?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Poledo.3256

Necromancer.

  • Tagging stuff in events? You got wells for that.
  • Dungeons and fractals? You got a whole 2nd health bar to absorb damage spikes letting you use your gear on more offensive stats.
  • WvW? Spreading conditions kills people really fast in groups and when solo you can do really well with a power build.
  • Versatile? You got condition builds, power builds, hybrid builds, leeching builds, chill builds, and fear builds.
  • Harder than spamming 22222222222? Gotta use a multiple skills to keep the max number of bleeds up and predict enemy movement to land staff ground target spells with any regularlity.
  • Looks good? Light armor looks way better than medium does. Not a bloody trenchcoat to be seen.

Necro is a ton of fun, especially a condition build. The problem I see in answering the OP’s question is not which class to play, it’s what class not to play!

The only negative I have against the elementalist is solo play while leveling can be challenging after face rolling things as a warrior. (warrior is my main as well). It’s a terribly fun class though! I left mine at 40 though because I was having some challenges with it leveling.

I am working on a guardian and a thief right now though and I can’t decide which one I love more!

Game is running out of things to do

Poledo.3256

Before I start here is a little warning, this is solely about PVE aspect of the game as I find PVP and WVW not interesting at all, simply not my cup of tea. So please if you want to comment take this in mind.

OK, to start with this I would like to say that so far game was really amazing and even thou it had its dark moments when there were more bugs than working things, I still enjoyed it quite a bit.

I am slowly reaching 5k achievement points and I have finished my twilight recently which I though was a great thing. I seriously did, until I actually done it. Now I realized that there is nothing else to do.

I did every dungeon possible countless times, I went to fractals lvl 47 and even finished lvl 49 with guild mates with total number of 400 fractals completed, I even did every single jumping puzzle there is.

After almost 1700 hours of gameplay with warrior alone I ran out of things to do. Anet can take this as compliment, even thou I would gladly play it double the time if I could.

I even made a second char, mesmer, went to lvl 80, did 100% map exploration again and decided to try and get a second legendary, but honestly for what?

Even if i wanted to get 2nd one I doubt I could go with months and months of TP farm and turning same items into easy but boring money. I can easily claim that 90% of my money came from TP, even thou I often played up to 20 dungeon runs a day!

This game has a really bad economy and loot system that punishes everyone except TP farmers to gain reasonable amount of money.

I will wait and see how will next patch change the course of game, but I doubt anything will change as long as TP is such an evil place and dungeons are so unrewarding that often makes me refuse a party even thou I enjoy them. kitten drops are such a killjoy!

What do you people think? Do you feel the same way or you have some other stuff I haven’t tried so far?

P.s. I even played keg brawl while there were still people to play with.

I’d say you got your money’s worth and then some out of the game. If you have that many hours to devote to a game then I would expect most people in your position would be in the same boat, in any game really. I don’t mean that negatively. That’s a lot of hours logged, I’d play something else till more content comes out.

As long as Legendaries can be bought and sold on the Trading Post, I have no interest. I’m not going to put in all that work to create one when someone who happens to have some extra disposable income can just buy one with real money.

So lame.

It’s not like WoW where you can buy 1k gold for 5 bucks. If someone wanted to buy a couple thousand gold they are going to drop about 800 bucks. That person earned that legendary in my opinion and actually did work for it, literally! Also thanks to those people for supplying Anet with cash so I don’t have to to keep this lovely game going!

Collin has mentioned that the plan is eventually to make legendaries Acountbound on Equip so that you can use them on multiple characters, but I haven’t heard much about this lately.

To me this would be inline with a lot of how the game is currently. I hope they add this in, and I will probably never have a legendary myself. I don’t feel like investing the time. I want it for those who have gone through it because it is ridiculous the time and gold invested to have to do that twice…or three times.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Poledo.3256

If the game was fee based, I’d be concerned. In the current state I feel no obligation to be online if I have nothing of interest I want to do. This leaves me free to either play other games whether MMO or console games and not feel like I am wasting my money running a sub for GW2. I like it.

I feel for those that don’t but to be honest I have left every other MMO after doing the end game and realizing it was the same thing I did on the last MMO with different characters. If you are someone who is serious about raiding – you really end up at the same place you are now very quickly I think.

Let’s take RIFT for example because that was the last game I played before GW2. It had the standard endgame, raiding and getting the best gear – but that took me a month after hitting endgame to complete. They released new dungeons and new gear and that took about the same time. Now they have an expansion out and I could go do it again but I am really tired of that endgame.

I have been doing it since EQ1 and I want something new. GW2 has done it. It still lacks in some respects but it is not the same thing again!

Rolling alt : warrior/thief/guardian

There is not a lot of burst with the guardian but I find it such an enjoyable class. Warrior is the first level 80 for me and I still play it everyday but I find I am playing 5-6 characters very frequently. I am currently leveling a thief as well and I enjoy it for different reasons. I like that with the thief I can always escape a bad situation with the aggro drop from various stealths. It is rare that I get downed unless I am just being lazy.

I like all three, sorry I wasn’t probably much help. Maybe switch between the three and level them each a bit to see what they feel like. By level 20 you’ve pretty much learned as much as you need to know about a class to know if you enjoy it’s play style.

Its a good feature, and anyone who talks about elitism needs to get over themselves.

Lets run through some hypotheticals:

You join a group for fractals. They inspect you and find you dont have enough AR. They ask if you forgot to equip your rings. If you cannot equip enough AR. You get the boot.
This is fair and just. While a skilled player can make up for a lack of AR, you are trying to get the party to take you on faith that you are skilled enough. This isnt fair to the other 4 people. No one should have to rely on the idea that a PuG is skilled.

You join a party for CoF farm. They inspect you and find that you arent running zerker gear. They ask you to switch and when you cannot they kick you.
This is fair and just. Part of the CoF farm is doing it as fast as possible, this means zerker gear. Yes a skilled player may still outDPS a non skilled one, but that doesnt mean you can, and your party again would have to take you on faith of your abilities, which they (quite correctly given the standard of most PuG’s) wont.

You join a group, they inspect you and find you dont have exotic gear. They kick you.
This is fair and just. Exotics do make a serious difference. I really shouldnt have to explain the basic process by now.

Complaining that you will be kicked by parties is honestly entitlement. You are demanding that parties take you because you perceive yourself to be just as strong/capable as people who have natural advantages over you due to their gear. Even if you were correct (and you probably are not. As gear is easy as balls to obtain, so if you cant get a proper gear set, then you probably arent as good as you think you are) you are still demanding that 4 other people take you on your word, and be prepared to carry you if you’re wrong. No one wants to do that.

The argument is self-defeating.
Take a party of full exotics, and one in not full exotics.
Do you honestly believe the not full exotics party will clear just as fast and as easily as the full exotic party? If so then you dont have a problem, simply form parties specifically for not full exotic players and do whatever it is you need to. If you dont believe it will be as fast/easy then you know exactly why people would kick you for it.

Elitism is just entitled whiners complaining that every party should cater specifically to them, despite them not meeting (the absurdly easy) requirements of that party.

Also holy kitten being able to just right click someone to view what awesome looking armor they’re wearing would be sweet as all heck.

Finally someone who can think.
It’s not fair to inspect your gear, but it’s fair to make other 4 guys carry you.

Yeah to the elitist, carrying someone means they aren’t wearing best in slot items and it might increase their speed runs by 60 seconds – yet they’ll sit their waiting for the right person for an hour.

Outside of that you’re going to get bad players no matter what you implement and as long as you are going to PuG that’s the risk you run. If the gear is truly that important to you and you can’t find four other people to run dungeons with perhaps skyrim or something would be more up your alley.

I’m still not impressed with Orr even after the nerf to mobs. There are some skill points and vistas that take some time to figure out how to get to and take some running around but who wants to spend 2 hours figuring out a vista due to respawns that are so fast and mob density that is ridiculous.

Not to mention, if I see another porous bone as loot, I’m gonna just cry. Sick, sick sick of those bones. And the Champion that took us what seemed like forever to bring down, that rolled over us like a bowling ball every 10 seconds dropped a pair of blue shoulders that merchanted for 63c.

That most certainly wasn’t worth the 15mins it took, plus the repair bill to bring down the champ. Complete waste and next time, I’ll just run by and won’t bother.

I don’t think we’re playing the same game. Also if you really think having to take some time to figure out vistas is a problem, try google.

People will complain about anything.

And most threads about botting are abotut the same thing, blinking nude node miners, characters farming moa’s, goups of 3 in the same area moving about at the same time in the same direction…I am sure they get tired of reading the same thing over and over again.

But it’d be cool if these bots just poofed-be-gone.

Ya? Then they should probably do something about it rather than attack the players who aren’t doing the cheating.

Deleting repetitive threads saying the same thing is attacking players?

“We are actively improving our means of detecting ‘bot’ activity in the game automatically. This includes tools for our customer support team to help them verify ‘botting’ reports and efficiently issue account terminations. Recently we have also hired a team of data specialists who will be helping us create more effective tools for analyzing reports of ‘botting.’” -Mike Lewis…4 months ago

Meanwhile today bots are warping all over the place gathering? And the only response given thus far has been “report them.” Even though it has already been explained how difficult that is to do with the warping going on.

This is the same thing I see said in every game I have ever played. So you can assume one of two things. They are lying to you and they really love bots and just want you to shut up. Or they are working on the issue and it’s not as easy as complaining on a forum to solve an actual problem. Then when they do solve it the botters discover another way around the fixes they implement. Then new action is required.

Imagine your life, and 100 people coming up to you during a day with the same complaint. The first few you listen to openly and ponder their complaints. After about 10 or so you realize there is an issue and you decide it needs attention. After 100 you are telling people to go screw themselves you’ve heard it already, you get it!

I play about 2 hours per day, when I play. Now I don’t play games at all. So am I hardcore player? Cause I think GW2 is very easy, boring, unsocial and noncompetitive game. For me PvE is pointless. I like to play with other players. So what a player am I?

type /deaths

a few are from “mistakes” or game disconnects? i guess..

anyway, until you are fully geared in exo/rune/sigils the game still is somewhat of a challenge, after that… open world is somewhat faceroll, i agree.

i want more hardcore content! (not for hardcore farmers, farming is evil. but for hardcore gameplay masters!)
i quit D3 after finishing it on inferno. because, for me that was it “i beat the game”.
am not alone in that category; a challenge is needed for a lot of players.

Well I guess since you have done everything this game has to offer you have “beat the game” so off to the next challenge with you, thanks for playing :P

i think it was a mistake not to have a healing profession

No thanks. I’ve spent enough time spamming lf healer for the rest of my life.

Sadly we will do it again as well because every other MMO still follows that path. GW2 won’t be the game I am playing forever so one day I will again be LFHealer! Until then I am perfectly happy with non-trinity game

Sorry but this is silly, introducing threadmill would make it worse for you? How exactly? You can still play your casual way. Or you’re afraid you won’t be on the same level anymore? Well, people that work for something should get more than those that do nothing. Lesson from real life.

You aren’t working for anything. You are spending time in front of a monitor with a keyboard and mouse pushing the same buttons everyone else. You are doing nothing that resembles work or anything that requires more effort than the newest player out there. You are not special, you are not unique but you do have entitlement issues.

Also since you want to bring “real life lessons” into this, here is a reality check for you. I manage a team of employees, and each one has his strengths and weaknesses. Some things come easier to some than others. They all work hard, some may be more skilled but that doesn’t mean they work harder. Often times work is not as hard for them.

So I put it to you that you if you consider this work, you actually work less hard than the most casual of casuals because it comes easy to you and therefor the casuals should be rewarded more if you want to base this off of effort.

Good Day Sir!
