I personally feel that there is a lack of competition

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Poledo.3256

This is my personal opinion, don’t bash on me. If anyone disagrees with me, atleast be civil. This game has ZERO competition for hardcore gamers. There is no real ’’goal’’ to acomplish, It’s like Anet said ‘’ Here are kittenloads of stuff to do, now do whatever you want’’ But it doesn’t work like that. People want a purpose to play and a goal to aim for, to obtain the things that makes them stand out. Even if it’s only cosmetic.

1. Let’s start with the PvE: Dungeons doesn’t even have the rewards that everyone wants. I’m not talking about items. I’m talking about achievements. Like the ‘’Worlds first 80’’ or ‘’Servers first whatever’’ Those are the things people want.
Let’s take sports as an example. We’re in the Beijing olympics, Mens 100m Finals. Every sprinter has been training day in and day out since they were 10 years old. They gave up all the fun in life just to accomplish this world record. And then suddenly someone breaks the world record and the whole crowd goes crazy, his name is printed in every newspaper and gets famous all around the world.
Now let’s go back to Guild Wars 2. The hardcore players that break records, the famous gamers that puts in heart & dedication into the games they play. 30 hours of straight grinding just to accomplish something spectacular. And what do they get in return? Absolutely NOTHING. This is why all the famous players quit. The famous gamers that stream and advertise your game gets nothing in return. This is why Guild wars 2 is dead on twitch… No competition at all.

2. The PvP: Like come on…. It’s like you Anet released a game that wasn’t even finished. There is absolutely no competition in the PvP. No ladders, No achievments. No one knows whos the best PvPers, because there is no system that tells you that. The PvP lacks variety. No Arenas, No deathmatches… What the hell?! The game needs INGAME ladders… Not the useless ones posted on forums. The people that actually play your game to the max and stream everyday to give to the community gets nothing in return. Why Anet? Just why?

Instead of fixing these issues, Anet implents useless new items that no one wants. Useless stuff in the gem store. Rushes into fixing stuff problems, that end up getting even more kittened up. If Arena net really wants to make this game an E-sport you guys have to top it up a notch. Because this game lacks basic features.

Anyway, Don’t get me wrong. I love this game and i think it’s the best MMORPG on the market. But it still lacks basic features that makes the game interesting to play. This is just constructive criticism.

It sounds like you are looking for every other MMO out there. Anet made something different and I love it. I don’t want the things you want and listed; I’m sorry I do not share your opinion.

Server dependent. When I first did this it was me and two others. It was so ridiculously tough. That was pretty much the way of it. Then I moved to a very populated server and was stunned to see 40 people there and it was over in 5 minutes. It’s supposed to scale based on people but with 40 people there nothing is really a challenge.

1 Tier of Dailies= 1/5th the Experience

Poledo.3256

…you don’t realize just how simple it is to level, do you?

No, it’s not a cash grab. They introduced laurels that make dailies even more rewarding. Taking a hit on experience ( i think it’s a 45-50% decline, btw…not 80%) is more than fair when you are now able to gain exotic and ascended gear from normal or slightly changed gameplay.

I think you’re ignoring the fact that daily tasks now require more “work” than they used to.

I wholly and completely disagree with your statement. I complete the daily without even noticing most days. It’s rare that I am about to log and off and realize I need to complete a part of it still.

Right at level 1 for me. Then again it has been a bit different depending on the class. I know that I could not stand leveling and Engineer and I have tried three times. Are MMO Gamers Too Heavily Rewarded?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Poledo.3256

Poledo.3256

There has to be some risk vs the reward or the reward feels empty. You’d think this was not true by the complaints you see but even those who wanted everything handed to them would find themselves bored real quick if they were given the best gear when they turned 80.

It’s a lot like using cheats on offline games – I can max characters stats out and give them the best items at the start of the game. It’s fun for a bit to one shot your way through a game but it wears off very quick.

To be clear, there is no “need” to min max. That is not on Anet. There is only the compulsion to min/max which is based on human nature. In a game with no trinity, your definition of a need to min max would have every player in the game playing the same class and build.

Does some balance need to be addressed, yes. But the idea of being forced into one build where the content is not all that difficult is wrong. It is designed ina way where you CAN min max but never would you have to do so.

Very well stated and I whole heartedly agree.

Is there an interest in Tyria based PvP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Poledo.3256

I have the exact opposite experience. I too played on a PvP server during EQ – Rallos Zek specifically. This is why to this day I will never play PvP again. Don’t get me wrong there are times when it’s great but for the most part it’s getting jumped by someone when you’re almost dead or while you just aggro’d 5 mobs. There are certain people who are exceptions but most want to just gank the crap out of people and aren’t interested in fair combat.

I’ll pass but I don’t see why they can’t servers for those who would want it.

Female human characters with GS

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Poledo.3256

Poledo.3256

With the Mesmer, I really don’t see any issue, as many of the GS animations make it clear that it is wielded with magic, and therefore the character’s physical strength is irrelevant beyond being able to carry it on her back.

I understand your point more with Guardian, as their attacks are more physical. However, I would expect that ANet researched how a woman would have to maneuver with a weapon that was just barely within her ability to lift when they were designing the character animations. There’s only so much they can do with the animations to make it more plausible, because it IS improbable that a woman could wield some of these swords. Then again, wielding some of these gigantic swords is improbable for anyone.

Unfortunately, it boils down to voluntary suspension of disbelief (i.e. ignoring the stuff that doesn’t make sense). There’s only so much you can do to make some of these things realistic.

your comments make me scratch my head. i’m not sure if you’re just completely clueless or not. a fit woman is very very strong. unfortunately there aren’t many because society has decided that it is unbecoming. not that it is even relevant as these swords are completely fantastic anyway.

i don’t mind the animation, and in fact would like the number 3 leap skill on my charr because their leap skill is strange looking. i like the spin.

A fit woman may be strong but if you think the twigs that pass for human females in this game could wield one I would be skeptical. Then again they must have really strong backs to carry those 100lb weights on their chest.

An Asura, a Human and a Norn walk into a bar,
They pull up a seat at a table and the Norn orders a round of drinks.
When the drinks arrive, each one has a fly in it.
The Asura looks disgusted and pushes his drink to the side,
The Human flicks the fly out and downs the drink,
The Norn grabs the fly by the wings and yells at it “Spit it out ya kitten, spit it out!”

Come back in 20 days.

We’ll see if you still think the same way.

I mean, sure this game is awesome with its graphics, its gameplay, I was just like you at level 7 and now I see what the devs have done with the end-game…

Oh my gad, running repetitive dungeons again and again, just like WoW… no reason to come back to the wonderful areas, it’s totally unrewarding… the only activity I still enjoy is massive PvP, and yet it lacks real rewards too…

And they are trying to make you grind for legendary weapons that they sell for real money. Lol ! I mean sure it’s great to get a legendary but it’s just dumb if someone else can get it for a little thousand dollars.

I was the same as the OP when I started and I guess I would also qualify as the person coming back 20 days later because I have had the game almost a month. My highest character is level 40 and that’s not from lack of playtime or ability, its from enjoying the game as I come up. I’ve made and deleted characters as I am trying and experimenting with different race/class combos and storylines.

I still enjoy exploring every area to the fullest and by that I mean beyond the map completion points. If I had ignored all that and rushed to 80 I suppose I may feel the same way as you. Then I would have missed everything else the game had to offer though, and whose fault would that be but mine?

People need to be responsible for their situation, especially ones they put themselves in. There is still so much of the game I have not seen yet and I am not even the slightest bit feeling the need to speed things up and reach 80. It’s been a long time since I have enjoyed a game so much that I have taken my time with it.

That being said, with the varying playstyles of people and wants and desires in MMO’s I don’t think the endgame should be lackluster under the excuse “the game is still new”. Any company wanting to be successful and have a happy consumer base needs to account for the type of player that does rush through leveling to play at the end game. It’s becoming more and more prevalent and companies are going to need to adapt to that and have content ready to roll out consistently, even with a month or so of release.

I guess I try to see things from all angles and what I am trying to get across is that although it may not be the case for you, it is possible to still have that feeling after 20 days, 30 days and more. I respect your feelings on the game though and hope they address things to make it more enjoyable for you.

Cheers.

I’ve not missed anything, I’ve explored everything, done every single jumping puzzle… maybe a few events that I have never done but no point in seeking those, they don’t reward anything good. But I’ve really not missed anything, I’ve just completed the game faster than others like you.

But really, the core game is wonderful and everything but as I said, it’s handled like <kitten word> in the end. They said the game begins at level 80, well all I can say is that it ends and not nicely. The game is EXTREMELY polished from level 1 to 40, still worked from lvl 40 to 70 and then it’s just <kitten word> full of bugs, undeads, rushed content, and no one to tell you what to do with the events they’ve made.

Fractals ; grindy and annoying.
WvW ; great and unrewarding.
Open world ; awesome and no point.
Legendary ; impossible and no point since people can buy it with dollars.

REWARDS, hell, REWARDS, is it so complicated? Or do you have to sell every single mini/cool skin in the cash shop, Anet? In the name of logic, you need players to buy those things in the Gem Store! And you have far less players if no rewards.

I guess that’s why I am happy taking my time leveling up. I have 2 40’s, a couple in the 30’s and many others that I keep switching between. I have not found a game yet that has got end game right. It all has the same thing. Run the same dungeons over and over and over. It gets very boring very fast. I’m in no hurry to get there!

I basically quit at level 67. The dynamic events started getting cut and paste, the dungeons were boring and the combat was sluggish, clunky, and too simple. The story was beyond cliched and reading the dialogue makes me want to scream at the writers. … the VA is terrible and to me GW2 just is not even close to how innovative GW1 was.

I’m basically a action-type gamer mostly… like FPS (call of duty, farcry), action RPG (dragon nest), 3rd person hack and slash (vindictus). I did play 6000+ hours of GW1 though, which is why I bought GW2. Only 100 hours into GW2 I was bored and just stopped playing. I don’t play open world MMOs like WoW, lineage, ever quest etc. I tried getting into those but quit within hours.

So in the span of 4 months since I stopped playing, has anything changed for the better? What are the 1000+ hour players doing that’s enjoying this game? Cause dynamic events, dungeons, quests, storyline, exploring is just all boring to me… And OMG the dragon bosses in GW2 are lame. They just stand there and get hit, they don’t fly around and fire bomb you, no real variation in attack patterns or boss movements. Nothing to really “watch out” for.

So please tell me… what’s fun in this game, because I have yet to discover it yet and my 60$ still feel wasted.

My experience has been different than yours and I enjoy playing. I’m not going to convince you of anything. This is apparently not the game for you. Just like every console game that comes out, you have to find the one you like; same goes for MMO’s. Keep trying and happy hunting.

So much awesome.

I disagreed with the comments about being directionless vs levelling. If anything that’s a great strength to us casual players. Being able to wander off and not be prompted where to go is a huge selling point for me and not something I’d personally want changed. Level based rewards? Yes, that would make more sense, and I could see that being implemented down the line.

I have not enjoyed exploring so much in a game since EQ first came out. The world feels large and there is a lot of neat areas to take in, even out side POI. I haven’t even felt the urge to take any character to 80, for once I am enjoying the journey, and taking my time.

There’s no official best weapon, save that which will work the best for you. I have no right to tell you which weapon should that be, though I could suggest some for different purposes.

I don’t even have an exotic greatsword, with so many hours played on my Guardian. Is it great weapon? Yes, but it’s not the “best” for me, as powerful and effective as it is on the hands of many experienced players.

^ Well said. One thing I learned about GW2 so far is to always try and keep a viable weapon of each kind on you. There is usually a situation for each, and eventually you may find that certain ones never get pulled out for use. Then you can start focusing on the ones you feel most comfortable with.

The OP’s post provides a pretty good example of what is wrong with gamer’s (and people in general) these days.

I think it provides a pretty good example of what the average gamer is becoming like, and if companies dismiss it they will suffer.

The more the world continues to cater to instant gratification, the more this is going to increase. MMO companies are going to need to start planning on being quicker with content release and doing it often. Everyone races to the highest level, plays that content and gets bored quickly. You or I may not subscribe to that gameplay but a lot of people do and that shouldn’t be dismissed.

So, my wife and I have played GW2 since beta, and we have had a lot of fun. But now we are starting to see the game for what it actually is : Pay-to-win. A friend of ours started to play and was level 80 in 5 days, because he used $ to buy trade-skill mats to level up. This really made our level 80s seem pretty pointless, because it was then obvious that you can basically “buy” a level 80.

Now there are legendary weapons showing up on the trading post. We are very unhappy with this development. It seems most modern MMOs are all pay to win these day, with their cash-shops and the ability to buy coin. We long for the good old days of an even play field, no matter your standing in real life. I am now starting to look elsewhere for another MMO, even sub-based, with NO real life influence on your character. I worry that those days are over, and my enjoyment of MMO gaming is coming to an end.

I feel sorry for your friend, and in part for you because of your attitude towards his leveling. I’ve had the game for a month and I have 4 characters at level 20 and one that I keep deleting and trying something new with. I’m enjoying every area and the story and having more fun than I have had in a long time in an MMO, so much in fact that level 80 isn’t even a concern for me at this point. That’s rare for me, I don’t think I’ve felt that way about an MMO since EQ1 and that was mostly because the whole MMO experience was new to me back then.

If you want to just zoom to 80 and have the best stuff and then stare at each other wondering what do you do now because you’ve “won” the game then I feel sorry for you. However you always have the option to do the same…

That’s not what he said at all.

It’s completely relevant to what he said. Their friend got 80 in 5 days. I said I feel sorry for him for missing all the enjoyment of leveling through the content. Every game out there can be called pay to win in many cases. WoW and Rift have players pay real cash to run with the top end guilds and take loot, so even though its not off the TP its still the same principle. So as I said, they can either enjoy the game the way they were until they saw an OMGLEGENDARY on the TP and now all of a sudden it’s not fun anymore.

If you were having fun doing what you were doing, stop trying to keep up with the Jones’ and keep having fun. Who cares how they got it, get yours how you think it should be or do the same because you have that option.

I’m going to go read more threads where people complain its too hard to get things.

Disappointed.
