2- Traits problem (because if they can make a second thread, it can have two spots)
3- Megaservers wrecking WvW loyalty
4- Megaservers killing RP for the RPers
5- Town clothes into tonics instead of skins in the wardrobe
6- Precursor crafting as xpac feature instead of QoL feature as it was shopped to us
7- Forcing PS to be played at set intervals instead of when WE wanted
8- Silence policy

I've redesigned the UI & the official website

PookieDaWombat.6209

Hi guys,

I’m a Senior UX UI designer and I’ve been playing GW2 since the betas, with long breaks in-between and since I’ve spent quite a lot of hours with this game, I’ve noticed some flaws in the games UX (user experience) and thus I decided to tackle it in order to diversify my portfolio. This lead me to redesigning some of the in-game UI’s & the official website.

*Cut for brevity.

While I think this is awesome creatively, it is also such a bad idea to do in general. A long time ago I was trying to get my foot in the door with the 2 big dog comic companies as an artist and the one thing they both told me straight out was do not, under any circumstances, send them original work/artwork of my own. I was only allowed to draw and showcase their own characters drawn like their top artists of that time. At first glance i didn’t know why they wouldn’t want to see my own portfolio, then one of the HR people at “M” explained it to me. If they were working on anything remotely similar to something i showed them, regardless of how far along they were, they’d have to trash the entire thing since they didn’t want to get into any IP lawsuits with someone, especially if they were not going to hire them.

Basically, let’s say that Anet was working on something similar to what you’ve presented to them here, they might have to shelve it now or risk having to compensate you in some way, even if they’d been working on it first since you could argue your work gave them these ideas even if that wasn’t the case.

Gliders people. You’re already getting gliders.

Well. The gliders are just for HoT, right? Over there in the Maguuma Jungle. Can’t use ’em anywhere where it would make sense to use them.

Anyway, I don’t want a glider. I’ve never asked for a glider.

Right. You want the thing you’ve been asking for? Buy the xpac. What? its not quite the thing you were asking for? You sure? Naaaah, you must be mistaken. Did we mention that you should buy the xpac?

Hopefully they will look back on their past experiences(GW and GW2) and find a way to fix the game as a whole.(My advise is to tell a certain Korean publisher to F*** OFF).

The policy of silence comes from arenanet and not from ncsoft. So even though ncsoft are probably the ones pushing many of the bad ideas, arenanet could still be talking to us.

Not to mention the fact that the whole silence policy was born from the precursor hunt thing that was (now quite obviously) fleshed out for the xpac instead of it being a QoL update as originally shopped to us.

Really, just an iota of honest, non-PR speak, about the traits and where its update is and why we will or won’t see it soon would be great.

I do hope that together with the trait changes we will see reversal to the old difficulty level. I really do not want to be able to solo Kholer with such ease…

If there is something that definitely won’t change is the difficulty back to what it was. I gave up on that horse a long time ago. :/

My guess is that the fleshed out version of the current trait system is what masteries has become or born from at least. Specializations should (hopefully) be no more than an unlock through a single quest, and then obtaining your new class weapon and buying your utilities, etc with skill-points since, you know, they’re skills. Simple, I know, but it makes sense to do it that way and if its done any other way expect some backlash.

Traits however, need some very basic fixes, which is what is so infuriating.

1) Lower costs by half across the board
2) Adept found in 15-30 zones, Master in 50-60, GM in 80
3) Make the events they are tied to ones that are solo-able
4) Give event options or make them more general allowing flexibility
5) Make sure the vents they are tied to are not broken for forever

I can’t imagine implementing that list would have been so hard that NO ONE from Anet could have done that within a whole year even if they were working on the xpac. Its not like there are a shortage of events and its not like chosing new ones wouldn’t have seemed any more arbitrary than the ones that were ultimately chosen in the first place. Traits need to be obtainable (and I mean ALL traits) by level 80. Not “go hunt them once you’ve gotten to level 80”. Especially with the the Specs and Mastery system being introduced.

Seriously Anet, what is the hold up already???

I wouldn’t say they are using the beta to distract. They’ve had it planned for a bit now. I’d say their silence on this subject with only our voices of dissent have been used to distract in a way. See, they can later claim being too busy with the xpac as the reason for not even putting the most rudimentary fix in place while others whom aren’t affected by this claim we are just complainers in a small 13 page thread since the more sizable one was closed. Out of sight, out of mind.

All the while those of us that have been trying to get info about this since the beginning are more or less at our wits end and not even logging in about to stop logging in, thereby quelling further dissent and allowing Anet more time under this system without addressing it.

They will keep their update in their back pocket with no word on it until HoT drops and that first wave of people complain. Once that happens, they roll out the fix, hoping it will quell most of that noise and have in place a new system that most new players can live with while never hearing from a good portion of us again.

It’ll be like their version of “Classic Coke” after all the people that hated “New Coke” had their say and left to drink other drinks.

Yup, been playing some other games and have even gotten some time in on some game time with friends. In general though I can’t bring myself to log into GW2 anymore until something is done regarding the traits. No more talking about it, or talking about something coming on the horizon. Actual implementation of the fixed system. Even then though, I’m not sure I’d necessarily come back into the game at this point.

Its kind of sad to me that for a game that has SO many things I genuinely love about it, from the lore to the actual gameplay and art could have one issue so thoroughly mishandled with others that seemed to scream out a disdain for players that I can’t see myself playing it even once the issue I most have a problem with is addressed.

I used to put so many hours in GW2 every night and even more on the weekends. This is what an under valued players looks and sounds like, and I don’t think I’m the only one. Nor will I be the last if things at Anet stay the same. So fine, traits will be reworked. Someday. Great. I really do hope the new system is snazzy and I do hope it makes leveling alts fun again for all of those new players. More importantly though, I hope Anet learns to start listening to those players more about communication. Its important.

I don’t know if they are necessarily underestimating it, so much as being SUPER hopeful that HoT will somehow magically negate it.

Many of us have been very clear in this thread and its older/larger brother of a thread of the various negative impacts not addressing this sooner has and will have on the game. Sadly, its such a “slow drip” problem that they are not going to really see people explode about it until they make their first “new” toon since last April. I honestly can’t wait to see the people making their Revs for the first time and being told to get traits in this way should Anet not address this and put a very workable fix in before they drop HoT.

In short, any fix at this point will need to be VERY spot on and mesh perfectly with their new system with as few bumps in the road for all of those scroll levelers, or these boards will flood.

All I know is when a store starts putting on 75% off sales as often as Anet has, its because they are desperately trying to get bodies in the store because they haven’t been doing as well financially as they projected.

There is a simpler explanation for the sales. They’re putting out a paid expansion. Increased player numbers mean possible increased expansion sales. Sure, there’s an element of a numbers game for store-based revenues. The bigger the potential customer base, the more likely sales of any particular item will be higher. However, I think you need look no further than the HoT box price to see why increasing the player base is good for ANet.

I’ll grant you that as one of the reasons, sure, but the actual earnings for GW2 have been on a steady decline these last 2 years and they are hoping HoT will be an influx of money. Unfortunately i don’t think it will be as much as they project because of how they’ve soured the vet player base over the last year.

I’m sorry, but for those of us unhappy with the game in its current state…we’ve grown tired of staring at the “roach” in our “food” and being told that it will be addressed, eventually.

Here’s the problem with your analogy.

I think near everyone would think that a roach appearing in their food would be horrible. And if a roach was indeed in your meal, it would be addressed immediately. To this point, where there has been genuinely game-breaking bugs, Arena.net has dealt with them swiftly.

I think a more accurate analogy is that you’re at a fast food restaurant with a hundred people behind you. You place your order, get your food, and realize that you really don’t like it all that much. It’s not quite what you thought you were getting.

So you start start crowding the counter along with other people who don’t like the meal (though not all for the same reasons), and wondering why the staff is “ignoring” your problem while fixing others AND taking new orders.

Meanwhile, there are others munching happily wondering what you’re complaining about. This stuff is GREAT, they think.

This isn’t a roach in your food. Stop pretending it is… because ironically that’s EXACTLY what DOES get you on the “ignore this person” list by the staff.

Actually the almost year long thread that was both the most commented on and most viewed and its “little brother” regarding the Traits issue that has yet to be properly addressed most certainly is a “roach in the food” and its one that a good many others have an issue with. It has thoroughly affected game play and Anet has in fact admitted it has needed fixing, but then ignored implementing the simplest of fixes from the litany of suggestions that were offered. I also feel for those that have been lead about by Anet regarding SAB, WvWers for a whole slew of issues since launch of the game, RPers that basically had 2 major updates adversely affect the way they play only to have a few more things changed after that making it harder for them, etc.

Most of these things had simple fixes that, yes, could be implemented without too much dev work, so what did they actually fix super fast? Anything that looked like it was about to severely impact their ability to make gems off of their players in the short term all the while slowly alienating many in the player base.

All I know is when a store starts putting on 75% off sales as often as Anet has, its because they are desperately trying to get bodies in the store because they haven’t been doing as well financially as they projected.

Here’s the thing.

I agree that Anet has done a great job with GW2 on the whole. Compared to others, its a great game. unfortunately the problems they’ve introduced and the handling of player concerns have been VERY problematic for me.

Its like this:

Imagine you’ve gone to a nice restaurant that you’ve looked forward to eating at for a long time. The meal starts of with a great appetizer that you’d rank a 9 out of 10. Then your main dish comes out and its fabulous. You’re enjoying yourself and they even bing out some extra to “top off” your meal again half way through. Problem is about 2 bites in you find a roach. in your food. When you ask for the wait staff to deal with this problem they all seem to disappear to the kitchen somewhere and no one comes around no matter how much you wave your hands in the air to get their attention. Hours pass and still no one comes by until the host pops up and assures you someone will come by to speak to you. A few more hours go by and no one comes. After a short while the host comes back and lets you know that the cooks and servers are working on fixing the problem for you, but they don’t have an idea when they will be out with that fix and in the meantime you can just eat around the roach.

Still after some more time you hear that they are planning on serving a second and new round of dinner dishes, and sometime during that phase of second dinner they plan on dealing with your roach issue, but still no one comes to actually deal with your roach issue.

Mind you, it isn’t like you’ve not seen some wait staff dealing with OTHER issues at other tables during this time, because they have been there.

I’m sorry, but for those of us unhappy with the game in its current state…we’ve grown tired of staring at the “roach” in our “food” and being told that it will be addressed, eventually.

I’d hoped there would have been some more conversion on Anet’s side of this after the new thread was made, but no…

As a customer I do not feel valued or respected. Sadly its not just the trait issue either, although this has been a HUGE part of it. Maybe it really is different with MMOs, and you don’t have to try to retain customers because there will always been a steady stream of new money/players.

I wish there was something more we could do, but at the end of the day there isn’t. It was fun, but now, not so much.

She clearly has a deeper connection to him then the rest of the group and Braham’s dialog mirrors this just not nearly as heavily.

This of course can all be conjecture and a possible “Reading too deep into it.” But it also carries the proof that between sentient species in Tyria Biology may not play such a heavy role in choosing a love interest.

((Information taken from the GW2 wiki. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Into_the_Labyrinth ))

I’m not addressing cross race attractions, only manner of dress and the reasons thereof.

Historically (and geographically as we discovered in GW1) the Norn and the Charr have been close races. Both always regarded each other with respect and have VERY similar tribal aspects to their cultures. Both value survival, strength, and “the hunt” as well as self sufficiency.

Both Rox and Brahm were loners that were looking for something to belong to and prove themselves to someone/find acceptance from one they looked up to and in the process found a kindred spirit in one another. I don’t doubt for a second that they were/are developing feelings for one another (since culturally again) they might find those things attractive in one another. The manner of dress doesn’t enter into for either of them, and THAT to me makes them having these feelings for each other even better for me since it goes deeper than base looks. Thing is, they are both very practical as well and know that in the end it won’t work (can’t work?) in the way a human and an Asura probably would never work. (And here i mean in a having offspring kind of way. A relationship might work, but the respective societies they are from might give them hell for it).

More seductive outfits for charr

PookieDaWombat.6209

OK, I cannot (nor will I speak on player feelings/thoughts regarding the attractiveness of Charr). its just not my thing, but to each their own I guess.

What I WILL speak on however are Charr, their lore and their society and how we as both players and non-Charr should not try to project our non-Charr-ness on them.

Charr are not human (obviously) and to that end do not have the same courting rituals that we do. I’m sure just as we recognize how Baboons court and mate, as humans we just don’t DO that ourselves. Our bottoms are not bright red, nor do they swell, etc. same goes for things like ostriches that perform a fairly ridiculous looking “dance” to attract mates. We see it, can recognize it for what it is, but won’t ever do it ourselves since that isn’t how we roll. We go for the nice outfits and body accentuating dress styles because that is our primary way of attracting mates, followed by bad jokes and awkward conversation. We are a highly social group with nuanced and highly varied views on life, politics, religion, etc.

Charr are not human. Charr are tribal and combative, even among themselves with small units that become like families. They are militaristic and even hand their children over to be raised by others. From a clothing aspect they tend to wear the same thing across genders as their clothes are not used to define them, or rather their gender isn’t as important as their function to the unit. From a mating standpoint I’d wager the suitability of a mate comes down to: Will this mate help make strong offspring to be proud of, can this mate be trusted, some healthy does of pheromones during “mating season”. Perhaps certain things about appearance may come into play, but the appear things might be length of tail or horns and not whether the mate looks good in a corset. “Sexy” outfits for Charr such as the one in the OP,I would think, would give most Charr a hearty laugh as they sat around in the Black Citadel while the one modeling the outfit pranced around making fun of humans and their need for such dresses. I just can’t imagine a Charr ever seriously wearing an outfit like that intentionally, nor any outfit like it.

I’m from NY and you didn’t see me screaming “too soon” or how insensitive Anet was when we had to blow up the tower in the middle of Kessex Hills. Y’know why? Because I know this is a GAME. A fantasy game.

Oy. There are plenty of things to be upset with regarding the game and Anet’s handling of it. This is not one of those things. Really.

Really? It is only for one day. If u don’t like it, then let GW2 be for a day and enjoy real life. Screw ur partner(s), get out, drink a glass of wine while you make fun of bad movies with friends, read the book you always wanted to read, but couldn’t get around to do so, or do smth else. There are so many more options

While i understand the sentiment, fact is for some of us we used logging in to something like WvW for an hour or so as a means of unwinding at the end of the day since that might be all we have time for/ability to do and now that isn’t an option.

I dunno, seems more like Anet has excelled at finding new ways to turn people off from playing their game than encouraging it.

I’ll probably just log in to get my daily prezzie and run in a circle for 5 minutes then log out just so i can say I saw it, but thats about it. So much for de-stressing tonight…

Here’s the thing:

I agree with OP. Getting mad about this is like getting mad at a kid playing cops and robbers because your family member was a cop that died in the line of duty or something. Its absurd.

That being said, we have to stay away from the whole “you kill people every day in this game” argument as well since, no we really don’t. Death in this game and others like it are not permanent and just by that one facet, it changes our perception of our actions in the game. It lessens the severity of it simply because we know it isn’t permanent. With no real consequence we are freed to act as sociopaths (right down to slaughtering waves of bunnies and armadillos, etc) since we know in 5 minutes they will be back. Even our own deaths are mitigated with a quick double click or another player coming along to grope us for a few seconds.

Wait…let me get this straight (since i’ve not logged into the game for a couple of days): the April Fools joke this year has to do with airplanes?

Wow.

OK.

Oh, and hello Q2. How you doin’?

Everyone is running around in an aviator cap, with their arms outstretched, making “NYEEEEEEER” noises, and there’s a jaunty silent-movie-era tune that plays when you die. I seriously hope they add in the emote /plane for use in the game. It’s amusing. I’ve been jumping off the side of Rata Sum just to hear the music. I don’t understand why people want to make it political, when it’s obviously not.

So, on that note: It’s now April. Any chance we could have some real, concrete information about what is being done to fix the trait debacle? 2 weeks away from the one-year anniversary.

Aaaah, okie. Yeah, I can’t really see the outrage RE: the joke. I think people would have been more kittened off is a zombie Gwen sprung to life to rain down death on them at all of the home cities.

That being said, yes i’d love to know if we are hearing anything by the time the anniversary of this trait nonsense.

To be fair, although setting it back to what it was might seem to be the “easiest” option, if you think about it long enough you can see it would be a complete nightmare for Anet. Especially on a PR front. Granted, it’d be of their own doing, but hear me out.

If they rolled it back to what it was (especially now or even 4 months into it) they still would have had and currently do have, a very large number of players that have most likely dropped a considerable amount of gold on unlocking traits for alts. Maybe they bought the traits because they just needed them faster, didn’t want to run to a map 10+ levels higher for an event, or the event they were at was bugged and they HAD to buy it. Regardless of the reason, they’ve dropped gold. Lots of it. If Anet reverted, they outcry for gold refunds in the game would be staggering and not something any of them would want to tackle. They essentially painted themselves into a corner on that particular front.

That, however, doesn’t mean that they couldn’t have price reduced the vost for buying them. Literally changing all costs by half probably would have resulted in far less complaining from the lot of us, and possibly even shown that they were listening.

And to be fair, they were kind of listening. just not to what we were actually saying. Instead they were listening to what we wanted and having their devs implement something new for HoT. We were essentially a boiler room/think tank for ways to improve progression as it pertains to the world after HoT, and THAT is what bugs me at the moment. Then the other thread was shutdown and this thread was made for us to speculate what could be coming (again) for traits, but with the lead in being info about…wait for it…HoT.

So can we just get a touch of honesty here? Are we even seeing a trait update before HoT drops? Yes or no. Direct question for a direct answer.

RNG is RNG. Random is never fair.

Or it’s always fair… depends on what you mean by fair. No one is given an advantage over any other person in the eyes of the Gods of RNG.

Actually not quite true.

Its a kind of a fake random. For it be “random” there will be those that are somewhere in the middle, but there will also be others that fall on either the super lucky end or the horribly unlucky end, and there is no way for it to shift. (This all came up in the thread specifically about RNG.)

So, no, not really fair.

Magic find has nothing to do with your chances of getting something like a precursor. Your percent chance of getting one is so small that have 500% magic find means nothing. All it means is you have a better chance at getting some more rares and maybe an exotic something, but thats about it.

its all random and nothing you do short of killing all the things and praying will change that. They already admitted that some people have great luck and some have horrible luck and that it wasn’t going to change. Operating as intended.

But hey, buy the xpac and you can quest for the pre you want. but only if you buy it.

All snark and kidding aside, tomorrow is Tuesday and more importantly (as far as updates go for the game) the technical end of Q1.

So, if we are not to see an update to the Trait system tomorrow (since if there was one planned, surely someone would have long since spoken about it either here or in a news post), can we get an updated/more accurate potential delivery on the Traits 3.0 update?

Instead of painting yourselves into a corner with some Q2, Q3 like predictions, can we just get an honest assessment of where it falls on Anet’s priority list? Seriously.

If the answer is, “we are focusing 100% on getting HoT out the door so it won’t happen until after HoT’s release”, then fine. Just say so. Let us, the consumer, make our decisions based upon real honest information and not something cooked up by PR. I promise that level of honesty will work out more for Anet than stringing people along with silence. Silence only makes us shout louder and pick apart every little thing that has ever gotten under our skin. Its actually worse for Anet in the long run to be honest.

If it is something that is ready to fly in the next month or 2, say that as well, even if you can’t share details until a week or 2 out from it.

I’ve already taken my message of how i feel regarding this and other issues i’ve had lately to almost every board, and GW2 evangelists’ video comments section. I’ve aired the same complaints on the FB posts. I’m about to start hitting the game sites again to see who will listen and report on this. Its gotten past the point of absurd.

Anet said they wanted constructive feedback and input from us, but when we ask for the same kind of feedback we get nothing. When the customer doesn’t feel valued, they in turn tend to value the product or service less. Food for thought.

Sadly the more I read on these boards the more its evident to me that either many of the people that were around back in 2013 are not on the boards anymore and/or too many people have REAL selective memories of what has gone down these last few years.

Even when you link them back to the posts from back then.

These days I just feel like a guy who was sold a car that fell apart a bit too soon and the dealership is telling me that a- that was normal and b- they’re more than willing to get me the upgraded version of that car for a chunky price.

No one said the new legendaries should be free.

Anywhere.

Other than your post.

What has been said over and over by some of us was that back when Anet was questioned about xpacs and if they were coming only ever told us that new content was going to be delivered via Living Story. This was reinforced by Anet over and over again in the forums when the topic came up for over a year. Its also true that Anet DID in fact say back in 2013 that some kind of precursor crafting/hunt was going to be implemented that year to “fix” the issue that many people complained about regarding RNG and the insane prices on the TP for precursors. Its also true that instead of being honest about its progression they went radio silent until people nearly lost their minds asking about it on the boards and then admitted that tech difficulties severely delayed it. Fine. Kinda late on the info, but people were more or less ok with the info at the time. What Anet DIDN’T say, (but is safe to speculate in retrospect knowing what we know now and what we know about dev cycles) is that at some point during the info blackout policy being put in place, the xpac was in the works and someone at Anet/NCsoft decided this precursor thing should be in the xpac. So this means the thing they touted in 2013 as a QoL (read: free*) update to the game, was now going to be added to the paid expansion.

Now also note that I have said if Anet had just said from the get that it was still in the works, but that it might not be in the game until a expansion came out, or even state that it might not be a QoL update when it does, that would have at least been better than what now feels like a a bait and switch.

At the end of the day though I’m not even talking about the new legendaries, just the ability to craft precursors. Had they made that available for the existing precursors for people that didn’t have HoT, then fine, but to tie it to a feature that is only available to people who buy the xpac is a big snub to those that don’t or can’t.

Ranger or Guardian: Best DPS In PvE?

Just wanted to point out that for PvE, Guardian in zerk build that is also traited for it, can put out silly amounts of damage with a scepter and torch set up at range.

The being said, overall I opt for my Guardian simply because they can both put out damage and helpful buffs more often to a group than rangers BUT I have seen tankier support minded rangers. They just don’t get played by many people.

I keep seeing people mention that we were promised precursor crafting and new legendaries for free.
I never recall such a statement.
The only thing they ever said was that it was planned for 2013 (which was later, before the end of 2013, postponed). As far as I am aware they did never in any way or form claim that it would be a free addition.

OK.

I’ve read many posts from you in the past, so I KNOW you aren’t actually as obtuse as your words make you out to be here.

BUT, if we are to follow the same exact logic you are using in your post i can just as easily point out that they never said it was coming in an expansion. In fact i can go further and say that ALL they were saying at the time was that all new content was going to be delivered via the Living Story.

Be that as it may, they precursor crafting was, in fact, meant to be QoL update originally. Then they ran into snags. Fine. Then they went silent about it all. not fine. And now it appears they didn’t just go silent about it because they had problems dev-ing it, but because at some point the decision was made to roll it into the xpac that they were being completely hush-hush about. This means they knew that they took something shopped as a free update and were planning on charging for it down the line and KNEW it would be a PR nightmare if they mentioned that back then. Now enough time has passed that it appears only a small handful of people either remember or care.

Kudos to them for that i guess.

It looks like a really great and engaging system. There’s no way to be sure without experiencing it in-game, of course, but I am cautiously optimistic. It seems to be hitting the right notes, in my opinion.

I must confess to sharing Pookie’s point of view that this was something that was heavily promoted as something that would be part of the base game, and it does seem duplicitous to backtrack on that stance, now. It’s no surprise, given that it was announced two months ago as a feature of the expansion, but it is very disappointing.

Before anyone takes it upon themselves to chide me for having this opinion: I have no problem with the expansion as a whole. Yup. They’re a company, not a charity. That’s why my gemstore purchases have been real money in exchange for goods or services. I’m pretty bloody aware of how making money works, thank you very much. Guess what? Even charities need money to function. This is not an argument about if they need to make money. They clearly do. In fact, they deserve to make money. This is me saying that the choice to gate precursor crafting behind a paywall is not consistent with earlier statements and, as a paying customer, I do feel like it was dishonest.

That the kicker there too. i like what they’ve outlined as well, especially making the new ones non-trade.

I just wish it wasn’t all coming on the heels of everything else that has stomped on consumer confidence for me.

Good to know people without the xpac get to continue having fun with the RNG.

slowclap****

Why would Anet care about the people who won’t buy the xpac?

Anet is trying to sell an xpac and they hope to convince you to buy it by adding cool new content and features exclusively to that xpac. If they’d just keep handing out new content and features for free nobody would buy the xpac.

Anet is a business, not a charity.

Why? Because they are still a potential revenue source via their gem store and ignoring them would result in a loss of long term revenue? That aside, I’m all for cool new content in an expansion since that is what they are for. What I’m not for (as I’ve said in other posts in this very thread) is them putting a feature that they once shopped to their players as a free QoL update now being locked behind said xpac all while having strung players along about this particular feature. Its disingenuous and, as a business, I think it doesn’t color them in that great of a light.

Had they been honest from the start when they first had problems implementing it and just said they are probably not going to be able to release it and if they did it would most likely be packaged with a paid expansion I could have respected that honesty. I’d also wager that they knew for a while this would be the case, but instead opted for silence until they talked about the xpac so the time between 2013 and now would be enough (apparently) for people to be more forgiving or simply not know that this was originally shopped as a free update to the game 2 years ago.
