No.

Sigils are available to everyone. If you want the stacks, buy the sigils and use them or not.

I don’t use them on half of my toons and don’t really care, and on others I use them as they are vital to the particular build I’m running.

Modesty in Armors (Optional Side-grade)

It would also give those of us who aren’t 14 year old boys more good armor choices (yes that’s a joke. Take is as one. :P)

still pretty insulting

Because half naked women when their counterpart in said armor is fully covered isn’t as or more insulting?

Sorry, but the truth of the matter is many of the skimpy female armor skins in this and other games ARE pandering to an assumed audience demographic of teen/young adult male and can be very off putting to some female players and even some male players (like me).

While it might be fine for a good many people, personally I can’t stand the underboob armor, or more importantly, I love the armor but I HATE the underboob and because of that i will never get it. For me, it is highly impractical and only serves one purpose. As armor it is a horrible design, and that really isn’t the only one like that.

As a contrast, I really love the Krytan armor skin for female medium armor. It is both feminine AND functional while keeping with it being in a fantasy world.

I agree that more armor sets need to find a middle ground in their design. Many times there are female armor sets that would be nice if they were closer to the male version, and those same male versions could stand to lose a few layers and buckles to be closer to the female version.

There is nothing that says even full plate can’t be made to look a bit more feminine while also being plausible/functional.

Even more for all of the medium armor out there. (Everything doesn’t need a trench coat or copious amounts of skin showing. There really IS a middle ground here folks.

Your best bet is make sure that you are only RPing in party or guild chat (if in an RP guild) and keep it out of map and talk chat.

Once upon a time there were home servers where people of like mind could meet and play as they liked. This helped RPers find other RPers and allowed them to play as they liked. It also helped WvW rally new players to the gametype. Alas all of that went out the window when Anet started to suffer from low pop maps and people wondering where all the players were. Their answer to this was creating the mega-servers.

Now there is no more real server identity and WvW is at the mercy of bandwagoners and RPers have to deal with non-RPers.

Yeah, some guilds can be a little hardcore or just plain rude, but I know there are others that are really good about treating their members right. I’m going to be rebuilding mine ahead of HoT and although i may bounce certain players before then because of inactivity, a handful will always have a home in my guild and those that i do bounce will be messaged as to why they were bounced with an offer to come back if they become active again.

As someone else mentioned, ping the guild leader and find out what happened.

Traits Part 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PookieDaWombat.6209

PookieDaWombat.6209

i draw the categories as PvP, WvW, and PvE because those are the game modes as stated by the actual game developers.

Only 2 of those are PvP modes where the options are either small team combat or a combination of large/medium/small team and objective play for both offense and defense, but at the end of the day it is still PvP and depending on the role you choose to play in that “war” its still best to have access to the same traits and skills as everyone else. As it stands now, an uplevel is at a big disadvantage in WvW because even though they can put on level 80 gear, the lack of proper movement, cleanse, fall damage, etc traits along with fewer skills make them easier targets, full stop. This actually hurt WvW and your server more than whether everyone is zerging or not. Both WvW and PvP exist “outside” the normal game as their own modes and that is all they are.

PvE has is core game, but it also has a ton of optional things you can do as well WITHIN it such as dungeons and fractals and JPs and world boss events that don’t necessarily require you to be max level, with proper gear and weapons and builds for any of it to either be effective or gain from the events. They are all completely optional and can be wholesale ignored for the most part without detracting from the core PvE game mode that, once again, they reside IN. Those things are usually meant to be played as “end game content” for PvE once you’ve played through what PvE has to offer and might be looking for more to do if that’s your cup of tea, and by then you’d have unlocked the skills and traits you would use in those areas and for fractals in particular, crafted or obtained your ascended armor that you will 100% need to do fractals after a certain level.

New Daily Rotation; Same Double Fractals

I always feel a little dirty when i get one of those dailies by accident.

Except that was the point of the dailies since day one. It might have lost that spirit somewhere along the way but the idea was that ANET doesn’t want you going out of your way to do things to get the daily rewards. The rewards were something you were supposed to get as part of your normal course of play. So if you got them “by accident”, that was ANET’s intention.

And yes, while i agree with you on that front, I still think it took me longer than "hit these four nodes and your gathering is done for this particular daily.
I’m not saying this needs to be removed either, so just want to get that out there as well. Just that I’d personally want to work a little more for it is all. As it stands now I tend to get most if not all of them done by popping into PvP and doing one maybe 2 practice rounds. Once i got them without even winning a match. Basically showed up and hit some people enough to earn the daily that day (which also made me feel kinda dirty).

Problem for me i guess is that there is very little middle ground in the dailies system. Its either:

a- do these insanely mundane thing to get 10AP with little to no effort. Just kinda show up, OR…

b- do these high level, group necessary, time gated possibly events for the same 10AP and hope you are successful.

There has to be a sweet spot in there for the middle ground people who want to put in some extra effort but not have to dedicate over an hour just to do it.

With Rose here, I’m fine with the fractal being in there since there are people that DO like fractals, but 2 different ones might be a bit silly/off putting for those that:

a- Want to get their dailies primarily from PvE
b- Really dislike doing fractals

Its like sitting at a meal and being told, well you can either eat these steamed brussel sprouts or these raw brussel sprouts. Your choice though.

And yeah, having some JPs in there occasionally or if gathering make it some thing like 4 rich nodes or whatever. Basically something that is more than find the nearest farm on lowbie map and bam, you’re done. I always feel a little dirty when i get one of those dailies by accident.

Fractals require you to have specific gear to even play them at higher levels and is 100% an optional addition to PvE. Players (regardless of group composition) playing against different ENVIRONMENTAL enemies. Same with dungeons, and since Anet already mentioned that they are trying to rework Big Z so that is also a soloable instance and not a mandatory dungeon, even dungeons will be another optional aspect of the PvE game mode. because it is optional and not necessary to PvE there is no reason for Anet to allow wholesale access to traits and skills for people playing PvE. In fact it goes counter to them making a PvE game type.

WvW and PvP being very specific maps and tactics against other players means that you would need a complete set of tools when playing those modes. It makes NO sense to even require leveling in those game modes as they are meant to be played differently from PvE.

If WvW was meant to be more like PvE then people wouldn’t even get the up-leveled buff in there, but that isn’t the case. its meant as another form of PvP and should be treated as such to keep players on the same footing with one another to some degree.

[Disclaimer: I only read the first page. Apologies if someone else suggested this already.]

Suggestion: Make it an item that unlocks ONE waypoint in each zone. If there is a “normal” entry waypoint, then make that the one. This way, someone’s at least able to get to the zone they want, but it doesn’t remove the exploration of that zone.

Actually what would be interesting is if they made it 2-3 random WP in a zone.

I look at it like this as well: running to a WP isn’t also just running to the WP in PvE (for me). Many times, even if my ultimate goal in this game was to get my new thief to the other end of some map, as I open the map and WPs i also tended to come across a person having a hard time soloing some mob, or maybe just knocked to downed and I will go over and help them. Maybe even run a few local events with them to watch their back. It basically increases the general social aspects of the game which would not be there if I could just blink to the WP because I bought it. I end up losing out on an experience and I can’t imagine that being a good trade off for an MMO.

Also, and i can’t stress this enough, there are STILL things in the open world that I’ve just discovered for the first time even though i have 100% map complete and all of the maps opened in some way shape or form on all of my other alts. Its very easy to have missed something in opening maps when all you use to gauge a map opening is the checklist of points in the corner. Conversations or small events that sometimes go unnoticed.

I’m pretty sure I’ve still not heard all of the conversations people have in Divinity’s Reach.

LA rebuild ... when?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PookieDaWombat.6209

PookieDaWombat.6209

I’m going to say in 2 weeks we might get an updated LA (all my personal speculation mind you), and at every 2 week mark there after a little more completed. I THINK they already have a finished idea of the map or even a completed map that just isn’t loaded in the background yet along with interim maps and this will be a kind of measuring stick to pace both them and the release of HoT ultimately.

Once again, just a guess from me, but i think that is the play put in motion at this time. Why? Well, if Anet only releases things when they know it to be certain then it stands to reason that they know what the final outcome is and are ready to pop it up, but they now have a way of delivering something to keep people looking/busy etc while they have other teams working on the xpac. They can use this time to talk about HoT and other aspects of it while engaging us on another front to give the HoT team some breathing room before pushing that hype train down the tracks some more before the final HoT PR rush.

That fixes WvWvW. Characters that play dungeons/fractals while leveling through any means other than map completion are still forced into grinding other game modes for their abilities though.

Uhm, sorry, but dungeons and fractals are aspects of PvE. There are 3 game modes. PvE, PvP and WvW and fractals and dungeons only exist in one of those modes, so yes if you want to play in dungeons and fractals then you need to do the things required to level up and skill/trait your toon as you would any other PvE character.

Simply by the virtue that someone can play in PvE and completely avoid doing all but one dungeon and never step foot in fractals means that those are optional extensions of PvE. For WvW you already get a “level bump” to 80 and can use level 80 gear while in WvW. The only thing I’m asking for is for them to also do what they already do for the other game mode where you fight others and give access to the skills and traits only while IN that game mode, while still allowing access to diverse rune/sigil combos and food buffs (unlike PvP). Once back in PvE though they would still need to level and gain skills/traits as normal for any activities that can be done from PvE.

This week's special surprise

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

PookieDaWombat.6209

Wow, peeps.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my own special run-ins with RB and RB2 over on facebook, but nothing she said was snarky. She literally shared/reiterated the company policy that they’ve had for forever now. Like it or not, they will not share any info until they know it to be almost or completely done. Its not snark, just facts and more importantly all they are allowed to say as per company policy.

Is it a silly policy? Well we can all debate that until we’re blue in the face, but it won’t change it.

Now, as far as the stuff that has been shared so far this week and the stuff regarding WvW:

As a WvW player I’m actually excited to hear more about these changes coming up and the rebuilding of LA had some neat little gems in there if you talk to people in LA with one of them mentioning that one of the structures might have something to do with guilds. Does that mean a central hub to get to an instanced Guild hall? Who knows, but I’m liking the build out so far. (And the hidden karka babies.)

Either way, Anet has been upfront with how they were revealing info regarding HoT so far so I can’t fault them there. Unfortunately for them, they are probably working crunch to get HoT out the door and even more so since they were probably told to talk about HoT to get that train rolling before too many people jumped ship and now have to push harder to get the xpac out than they originally planned.

All the while they have to deal with little PR nightmares that they can’t truly address well thanks to the mums-the-word policy implemented.

I guess what I’d wonder then, if it were possible, and maybe (I know this is a big thing to ask as it never seems to work), but can we have someone ask around at Anet if its possible to have WvW like sPvP in so far as, when you enter it, you are “actually” level 80 and have access to the full trait trees and skills, even if you’re lower level? Armor can still be lowbie armor and players will just have to buy a second set they’d use exclusively in WvW along with weapons. (No need to normalize the stats like in PvP), but at least make them not have to worry about being an up-level or grind for the skills/traits). This way people who are exclusive WvW players can just do their thing and if they bring that toon in PvE they will be what ever level they’ve attained via experience and will need to use level appropriate armor and weapons, skills and traits that they have unlocked or can unlock in that game mode separate from WvW.

Basically, is that even possible and if so could it be implemented? I’d imagine it’d be a slight reworking of the PvP code.

PookieDaWombat.6209

Umh. The crafting part is minor compared to aquiring the prerequisites. I am looking forward to the hunt.

That’s just it. You need to acquire (read: grind) the prerequisites so you can craft it. They’re eliminating the luck-based component of the game and replacing it with token-based (sure, but slow) component. Boring, repetitive, often time-gated and no jump-for-joy effect after you get the lucky drop.

they are not eliminating the RNG for precursors. That will still be there. This other method is for those of us that want to actually go on quest to build a legendary weapon like we asked to be able to do ages ago. Especially since there are many of us who have HORRIBLE (nonexistent) luck with RNG.

Rin: I have at least one of every race and class, with about 3 or 4 (honestly can’t remember) repeats of certain classes. ALL of them are level 80 with I think 2 at full world complete. The rest are all at various stages of it. Most are equipped with full exotic or an exotic/ascended mix.

Is running around the map to do map complete a chore? Possibly? Probably the reason I haven’t done it across all of my toons. Here’s the thing though: if I want to, say, have my power necro do a certain event or dungeon, I just go there. Straight there. If I already have the WP, goodie. If not, I run. Literally no skin off my nose to run to the place to get it open when i want it. The time investment is minimal at best to get me to those places.

And before you mention how precious your game time is with respect to the other things in your life, please understand that my job requires me to be on call for a week at a time every other week and I have 2 little girls age 4 and 5 that are a huge priority as well. My game time is usually limited to maybe an hour or 2 if I’m lucky enough to play at all. Believe me, I get the truncated play time issue.

My point here is that, your boredom notwithstanding, playing PvE requires active engagement with that environment and to that end, waypoint opening is part of that game experience for this and MANY other if not MOST other MMOs. It is literally part of the game. Full stop. If that one aspect of the game (which is so inconsequential to begin with) is just too much to have to bear while getting to the parts you want to play, then it might be time to take a break from the genre. Seriously. If you are so burned out from simply playing the game as it was designed then you need a break.

It would take me less time than writing this post right now to have run clear across one map and unlocking each WP along the way, and from any of those even less time to get to an event on that map that I’d maybe want to play at a later date.

Its like complaining that you really want to eat but its too much trouble to lift the spoon to your mouth since you’ve already done it a bunch before.

In either case, it looks like Anet might deliver a waypoint purchase unlock thing for you anyway, so there you have it. Enjoy spending money on something that is normally free and such a minuscule time sink that paying for it is akin to being snookered (IMHO).

Waypoints for Teq/MD/Golem/Shatterer/even guild missions can be reached very quickly

((((((snipped for brevity)))))))

I don’t see any need for all 8 of my characters to suddenly have 100% waypoints just because it’s tedious to get to the Shatterer on my Engineer that I barely play ever.
I don’t see the need for the Revanent (new class inc) to be able to reach all the map just because I insta 80 it with tomes. I’ll run it to dungeons/orr/world bosses when I need something to do in game

Crystallize, i honestly can’t +1 one this enough. Especially for the last paragraph.

This goes right back to what I also said earlier: if playing the game as it was designed to be played is such a chore for a player, then they need to step away for a while and find something else to play.

If such an item should exist, then you should also resign your Gifts of exploration(2) on this character upon using this item because you didn’t do the work. I just completed my seventh world completion this week and i deserve my gifts. Someone with a big wallet don’t deserve it.

Yeah, I’d say that IF Anet actually did this and sold a “buy all WP access” pass then they should also make sure that it stripped that toon’s ability to gain any map complete rewards. If anyone asking for this is also OK with this as a stipulation then sure have at it.

The only part of this game that really just lets you jump in and start playing its game mode without any real time investment is PvP, as well it should since it really should be its own separate game anyway. WvW requires you to be at least level 80 with gear that isn’t completely junk or lower leveled if you want to have a snowballs chance of survival in there. At the end of the day though these 2 game modes are NOT PvE. The key part of that being “Environment”. That is literally PART of the game mode, and you’re essentially asking to not have to deal with it because you have already a few times???

If you truly dislike having to open the environment (not even doing hearts, poi’s, vistas, anything, literally just running through the map) just to open key WPs on a given map to let you get to the content you say you want to play is still too daunting/annoying for you then you should honestly play something else. I’m not saying that to be glib either. I truly think you will find more enjoyment elsewhere for a while since you obviously are not finding it in this game.

It has “X” number of features that we train them on, show them how they can use them to be more productive then they turn around, only use about 10% of the features then complain when they can’t get something done with the software and refuse to learn or re-learn what we taught them about it. We put the work in to get something useful stood up for them then they turn around and ignore most of it.

From a design perspective you’re basically saying “we want to play in your PvE world, but we don’t want to actually take the time to open it up. We just want to play in it, so just open it all up for us because we’ve done it once already”. Aside from no game ever doing that…ever, you would end up with a product that people worked really kitten making not being experienced. All the WPs being opened means that they will be used to get to specific events and dungeons. Thats it.

If that happens there is no motivation to create or update content. Why bother if people are just going to ignore it? Been there, done that indeed.

If you are really that bored with the game on the whole, then you might want to take a wholesale break from it.

Look, like a good many of you in here, I’m a bit of an alt-a-holic, but to blame the game for being boring because you are having to unlock everything over and over again…?

Uhm…that would be YOUR fault for making that many alts, probably in quick succession with one another. I get it. By the 10th one it can get REAL boring, but that’s not Anet’s problem to fix. That’s yours.

I take a good few months between characters and I don’t mean one or two months.

This isn’t about being omg so lazy as you people have lambasted us – it’s just a minor QoL issue that suits, I do imagine, quite a percentage of players.

The one time I became “burnt out” was when I played my mesmer from beta to 1.5 years into the game.

Regarding the poster above me, I actually swap to thief and have had him as my main since then. Thief pride! Point is that I believe most of us wanting this are not new to the game, we are often veterans who simply enjoy having a range of characters to play across the years and not be limited by this QoL issue.

If you fanboy this think of it this way: Anet gets money if they make it a gem store item.

Whilst I wouldn’t be totally happy with that, I would rather it be an item earned and achieved, I would be satisfied.

If you’re against it because some irrational issue like you think we’re lazy – go level some characters to 80 and get 100% world map exploration over the next 3 years THEN complain to us.

Kthnx and bai whingers.

20 chars/ 19 world completions, getting waypoints = not a big deal.

I knew someone like you. Literally all they did was map completion. No joke. That’s it. Why are you relevant?

So, people start throwing down the gauntlet about “make x amount of alts with 100 map complete then come back and say the same thing” and someone does exactly that and they get “Why are you relevant”? Really?

Right there this just makes any arguments being made for unlocked WPs completely moot.

When I started to feel alt burnout, I focused on playing other aspects of the game, or refining my playstyle on a given toon. When I felt I’d put enough “distance” between me and the open world I went back and started opening the maps again and even discovered little things out in the world that I’d not discovered before. It was fun.

Seriously, take a break from the open world for a while. It will do you a world of good.

  • When I do the heart where I have to capture the dolyak calves, I go out of my way to avoid fighting the Dolyak mothers. If I get their aggro, I either run away to break aggro or let them kill me. I can’t abide killing dolyak mothers while I’m trying to steal their calves.
  • I sometimes troll people who are about to jump in a puzzle by firing off a speed boost just as they do the running jump.

Not gonna lie, because of that final bullet point I will head into wayfarers with my lowbie tonight and relish killing every single dolyak mother while stealing their babies. Just. For. You.

I have to say one of the things that really got to me was not being able to try my PS while being well under-leveled for it. It was one of the ways I could make the content challenging for myself without too much work on my part. I miss those days. Can vets get unshackled PS? That’d be nice.

Yeah, as lordkrall just mentioned, we won’t know until they let us know, but it probs won’t be anything major.

News wise though, I really hope they talk about Guild Halls this week.

leveling is painful

I know this has to be a troll post because no one that ACTUALLY plays the game would think leveling itself is a grind.

There are days when I am playing and realize I was about to hit level 80 without seeing even 50% of the world in game. And that was without crafting a single thing. With crafting it was even faster (and I was just crafting things for the level I had attained).

Leveling in GW2 is the easiest thing in the world between events, hearts, personal story, boosters, crafting, and a plethora of tomes and small xp bumps.

Kilger: while i get what you’re saying, there have been plenty of times a fight between me and a necro has ended in my frustration in them wrecking my face suddenly and then healing back from the damage i just did to them, so its not like they are all that defenseless in a fight. The amount of damage they can both eat then heal while dishing out their own can be silly.

Yeah, I’m thinking the first time a thief or some other GC jumps on mid and two of these necro hit them with blasts of chill and other condi they can’t easily cleanse and are more or less rooted while the nightmare of blows come in, there will be a big outcry of "they are too tanky and do so much damage nerfynerfnerf.

Who knows though.

I look forward to seeing new metas born from the new specs. Might make for some interesting counter play and seeing how people react to their routine being upended.

Locked Cultural armors aren't logical

My only real issue with cultural armor is that it is not max level exotic for tier 3, yet costs what it does. If it is going to cost that much and only be available for a specific race then it needs to at least be max level exotic.

I really don’t find it worth my in game time/gold to buy those armor sets just for the skin since that is all they really are, which is a shame since some of them are nice.

it would be suicide if they just stopped giving info about HoT in general, but not if they took a break from the specs. i hope if they take the break from the specs that they talk more about Guild Halls in particular since that is a big thing that should be addressed and even address some other smaller questions that have come up on the boards as well or clarify things about any additional maps, etc.

"DragonHunter" name feedback [merged]

I’m re-posting my reply from another thread into here as its more relevant to this thread in the first place (even though its responding to another in the other thread). Apologies if you’re reading this twice and feeling confused.

Yes, i get the goofy feeling of the name. i know that many of us imagine some 12 year old at the D&D table for the first time introducing his half-elf warrior named Sylvan Deathmaker when we first heard the name, BUT…
While anyone can become a hunter of dragons, i think they meant it thus:
Just as a warrior in D&D might follow the teachings of a certain god, they are still a warrior and not say, a Paladin or cleric of that god. In the same vein, in GW2 while everyone is fighting against the dragons, the Guardians felt a deeper calling to this one particular act and having been the GW2 equiv of a paladin already, it made sense for them to take on this “calling” similar to how vampire slayers or witch hunters develop that singular unrelenting focus on going after and trying to erradicate whatever it is they are going after. Its more a description of an obsession fueled by events in the world around them. To that end then, i can be a bit more forgiving of the name. Even more so if the way we get the class introduced is because something happens to Eir, spurring her son on to take up her bow in search of her or to avenge her.
Then the fanaticism would definitely make sense.
Seriously, we play a game with “Warrior” and “Ranger” as class names already. Dragonhunter, while on the surface not as flashy or cool at first glance as Chronomancer or Reaper is still fine and possibly more understandable when tying it to actual class motivations.

That’s why I said that technically same can be said about Reapers that’s said about Dragon Hunter. Anyone can become a hunter of dragons and their minions, and anyone could also be considered a “Reaper” (and even get a title proclaiming that fact) if they kill enough people.

Pookie, I suspect engie will be last to get the showcase, but I’m pretty hopeful that it will impress as well. I’m really thrilled with the speculated hammer as their new weapon.

I usually run thief, so I’m very interested in their spec, but I have yet to see rifle done well. I wish they were getting maces or axes, but I know the reasoning for the rifle is sound.

Depending on how these next few months shake out, I’m really considering getting the expansion.

Yeah, my hopes are def high for that hammer and the mini drones.

i do have to say with the Reaper, they’ve pushed me much closer to the “want to buy” category as well. I’ve been doing thief a bit more myself lately and have been really enjoying her a bit more so I’m excited for what they might intro for them as well.

I’m most worried about Warrior though since they already have access to most of the weapons in the game so what does that mean for them in the long run?

Now THIS is how you introduce a new class.

Not gonna lie, this one has me REAL excited aaaaaand that one skill in the vid with the hand grabbing the dude and pulling him back better be a shout called “get over here!”.

If not, make it so.

For reals.

Still….dem in the thick skirmish skills. oh yes. I am ready.

Agreed, this is the first spec that has really caught my attention, of the three they’ve featured. (Chronomancer seems like an interesting concept, but mesmer isn’t a profession I’m really inclined to play.) I’m pretty excited to see what else they have in store.

I’m still squirming for the deets on engie.

I will be a sad panda if it falls short my the hype in my brain.
