Happy to have Mocha Fox join us!
Welcome Twizzle and Linux to the guild!
If open world PvP matters to you, your choice of server matters. If PvP in any form turnd you off, it doesn’t, really. The only thing to keep in mind then is that your guild needs to be in the same server timezone, NA or EU.
I’d go with one of the top 12 for a decent WvW experience. Have a gander here: http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA
Hope that helps.
Hai guys!
I’m Pix from The Society, a PvX guild on Yak’s Bend. Our guild is friendly and inclusive, with a proven trackrecord when it comes to training new players. We use our Community’s TS3 and have two moderators within the community TS.
You can expect about 40-50 people logging in daily, and you’d be joining the vibrant Yak’s Bend community, which is currently in T2, arguably the finest tier for open field fighting.
We’d love to have you guys. check us out here, and if interested put in an application: gw2society.enjin.com.
Make sure you find a guild before picking a server since you are interested in WvW.
’Straya FTW! Although we did add a few in this timezone, Like AJ and Lash.
You do realize that in no war in American history did combat actually work like that? It’s a large portion of why the Americans won the revolution: the British had their “rules of engagement” which included lining up and trading volleys as their commanding officers sat off to the side. The Americans took potshots at them from behind trees, bridges, and walls while snipers took out the British officers.
TLDR: the Americans won the revolution because they fought dirty. This style transferred to the American Civil War with even deadlier results (and the invention of new weapons like the gattling gun didn’t help).
Although what you say is true for engagements featuring a lot of militia, like Concord and Lexington, the Continental army did fight with more conventional tactics, like at Brandywine, Germantown and Saratoga for example.
Hi peeps,
I’m Pix, I’m Co-GL and primary recruiter for The Society. I have 4+ years experience as a guild recruiter, both in GW2 and another MMO.
Finding a good guild can be a difficult and bewildering affair, and I hope to give players a handle on how to attract the right guild for them, as seen through the eyes of a recruiter.
How to compose your topic:
Topic Title
Your topic title should display all neccessary info for a recruiter. Yes, we’re aware you’re looking for a guild; What we are interested in are your interests (PvE/WvW/PvP/PvX), your timezone, your investment (casual, semi-hardcore, hardcore) and which server you are on. All of these should be contained in the topic title.
For example:
“LFGuild on Borlis Pass (PvX, casual player, OCX)”
“Lf hardcore euro WvW guild on Blackgate”
This will tell a recruiter immediately whether you fit the bill. You are then more likely to be targetted by recruiters for the sort of guild you are looking for, instead of getting a generic cut-and-paste response.
Message Body
Give us additional information you think is relevant. Is it just you, or are you looking for your friends too? What do you expect from a guild? What is it you’re interested in in detail? Are you willing to switch servers? Are you willing to use VOIP? etc, etc.
Do your homework
Most servers have community forums. A quick google search of [server name]+forums will yield results for the server relevant to you.
There’s some other external resources to find Guilds:

You want to make sure you look for a guild on your server if you are even the slightest bit interested in WvW. If you are on a Euro server, you want a guild on a euro server, same for NA. This is due to restrictions between NA/Euro servers. You’d only be able to participate in chat if your guild’s server is NA and you’re on a euro one, and vice versa.
Check out the guild’s forum if they have any. You can get an idea for how active they are, general atmosphere, how often they do guild events, etc. That doesn’t mean a small guild without a forum is bad; it’s about making sure the guild matches your expectations. Otherwise you probably won’t stick around, and the guild loses a member. Not good for anyone! If they don’t have a forum, chat with the recruiter to get a feel for the guild. It’s ok to ask questions!

Hai Lash, I saw you signed up to the website, be so kind to fill out an application through the ‘recruitment’ app on the main page as well?
If you are still downloading; we are on the Yak’s Bend server, but any NA will do for general PvE. For the full experience we recommend picking the same server though.
Hi Kaos, your application was approved, and one of our officers has send you a guild invite. Welcome to SCTY.
Rule #1: Nevah trust Biggsie
We welcome Talia and Bush to the guild, both joining while still downloading the client.
Hi. I’m from Yak’s Bend. We have a fair number of dedicated scout and siege taggers, allowing us to respond fairly quickly to threats. We devised a system where commanders instantly know where the keep scouts are.
Even with all of that, I don’t think the removal of white sword’s a good idea. For one, 1 scout won’t be enough to cover a keep anymore. You can be moving around tagging siege, with a wall down before you even realise what’s happening.
It then only takes one troll to blame the scout for people to turn people off from guarding altogether. With these changes there’s still no reward for those guards/scouts.
Will the defense event pop at all? If not, even less reward for defenders.
Also, does this mean that waypoints will not be contested? I always thought that wp contesting was an interesting part of WvW tactics myself.
WAT. Straegen got Yakkified.
I kiiiiid.
Still open for more!
Sell the Balm while the farm instance is still available, I’d say.
Introducing our new ‘hide and seek’ event October 27th!
Personally hoping nobody finds Biggs.
Like, EVER.
You’re more than welcome to join! We do require all new recruits to fill out a short application form on our website; gw2society.enjin.com. Click on the recruitment app on the frontpage after you make an enjin account and answer the 4 questions. Easy Peasy!
Looking forward to seeing you in game.
Had a great WvW reset today! Open for more to join our ranks!
Bump for our new Yaks!
This could also hurt the economy and future revenue from gem store sales.
Since it’s far less attractive to convert gold to gems now, less gold will be drained from the economy, potentially leading to more inflation.
Gem Store sales are percentage based. It’s now less appealling to buy gems for them, since you’re left with gems you might not be able to use, impacting the ‘impulse buy’ that drives a lot of sales.
Bad for us, but bad for Anet too.

CD probably deserves a look as well, for the rest I agree with Lion (Dream).
We currently voting for the winner of the best death screenshot contest, with several strong contenders.
In other news, Soulblazer is doing PvE. What. The. F.
Hi Terok,
No, we’re not affiliated with Gamebreaker Nation in any way or form.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Hi Lewis, I’ll ask someone to send you an invite. I’m currently at work myself.
Please not that we do require all new members to put in an application at gw2society.enjin.com.
That has not been my experience with SG.
Always eager for a few more!
There’s some encouraging signs that YB might stabilise in T2;
We’re not PPTing very hard at all right now, not like seasons;
We gained a significant guild in SG;
There’s a fair few regulars taking a break right now;
We got a fair few individual transfers during seasons that still turn out. this includes OCX;
Our few ‘for fights’ guilds are having a blast.
Throw in the fact that by all reports SoS lost OCX guilds, making the tier more competitive.
I doubt T3 has any servers to replace YB at this point, population wise.
We welcome Rev to SCTY!
Still open for more.
Congrats to Voski for making Officer!
Definately. Please apply through the recruitment app on our website: gw2society.enjin.com
We welcome Huiliang to SCTY!
That sucks. :/ I’ll help you bump this thread.
I’ve changed my mind, pending on YB’s performance. I already said in this thread that if they play to their negative stereotypes; then I’ll want it again.
They have potential to be much more than they are and what they have been. However, I don’t want to waste anyone’s time (on FA, SoS, or a server that is actually up for the challenge) if they don’t want it.
Translation: I’m up for a doubleteam vs YB, unless they play the way I want.
Mighty mature of you. Please don’t tell us how we should enjoy the game. We’re able to determine that for ourselves.
For YB, DK, Rheayas and Lyorkie are the heart of our command and control, with the many responsive scouts (as Lion said) allowing them to hop to contested points or attack the opponent where they’re weakest. YB tends to play a strategic game. It’s all about “Getting there furstest with the mostest”
I tried again last night (SEA time). It went through without issues. Might have been a temporary issue server side. I suggest you try again, Seb.
Get on your server’s Voip server; You don’t even need a mic. Listening in will make a world of difference to your survival.
Know your basic fields and finishers. When your commander calls for a waterfield, be ready to blast it. If you’re the one providing the field, put it on the commander.
Dodge. Red rings are bad.
Use relevant consumables for your build. they can provide anything from extra regeneration, to stat increases and endurance regeneration. When in doubt, mango pies always add to your survivability and are really cheap for beginners.
having the same issue, tried at 20 and 35$. I’m in Western Australia, no latency issues, card is good.
We welcome Sea and Sands to the guild, who we’ve aptly nicknamed ‘Beach’
Hai MrFancy.
This is not something we do. The same goes generally for Yak’s as a server.
However, joining a cross server guild only negatively affects you if you are big on WvW.
We can help with farming and money making tips, though.
Instead of a survey, maybe Anet could post a synopsis of what they took from each CDI after internal discussion?
This would take less effort than surveys, and will allow Anet to gauge whether they’re on the same page as the playerbase, broadly speaking.
Still recruiting!
Bump for Frankie!
Now introducing our new Guild Lottery! 20G monthly draw, open for any member that progressed past ‘recruit’ rank at no cost. Santa’s got nothing on us!
Welcome to SCTY, Fox!
I’m not sure if ‘42’ is her age or IQ… >.>
I kiiiiiiid! Don’t kill me Ser!
Hi, Though I’m not a new player, I am a co-GL of an active guild that gets it’s fair share of new players. The common conplaint is not that the game is to hard, it’s just that a lot of the mechanics are very poorly communicated to new players.
I ussually take the time to explain things like how finishers and fields interact, What stats do and what to aim for, where to find what, what this downed state is, etc.
Explaining stuff better to new players is good for player retention, imo. Once I explain some things, new players often say that the game is deeper than they first thought.
Let’s just hope we’re not just going to get China’s hand me downs, though. The latest new gemstore skins and the upcoming patch seem to hint in that direction.
Do you think these squad directive icons are useful? What issues do you see with them, if any?
Hi Chris,
I find them not very useful since they’re a stategic tool, for only a small squad. The functionality I’d want for a squad is on a tactical level. For random groups who won’t bother joining a squad, or even know about them, they’re not of much use.
I’d rather have a couple of hotkeys which when activated would show an icon above the commander, and play a clear audible signal as well, like a bugle call. If I had one for Engage (push)/fall back/build/hold I’d be chuffed.
This is important because on a tactical level every second counts, and communication needs to be as instant as it can be.
On a strategic level /team and voip are unlikely to be replaced by a map icon system, due to the kind of relevant information that needs to be passed on. A ‘defend’ icon says nothing about enemies present, their guild affiliation if any, siege put up, defenders, defending siege, status of gate/walls, supplies remaining, etc.
Welcome to all new members! Still happy for a few more!
If SoS OCX doesn’t want to destack because of server pride, good for them. But that completely invalidates any complaints from SoS about tanking.
You have enough playing OCX to compete with our (T3) NA for crying out loud. Don’t expect anyone to sign up to months of being karmatrained so you can have a whipping boy.
Chuckles79 from SoS has already stated on that other forum that YB would be focused by FA/SoS if we ever moved up. So if SoS server representatives actively discourage T3 servers moving up, then what are we even taking about?
