I have the exact same issue. 60 fps to about 24-30 fps. Constant skill lag of about a quarter to half a second. This makes some of the new content unplayable, and pvp and WvW unplayable as well.

We should probably step away from the term ‘tanking’. In GW2, this is replaced by control. For a warrior, fiddle around with Hammer, Mace, and shield. You can achieve a constant uptime of weakness, and interrupt enemies with knocks, dazes and stuns.

Necro is exceptional at AoE Chills, as long as you go Staff+2 wells+Chilling Darkness trait.

Chilling darkness turns any blinds into chills. Apply staff 4 (blast finisher) on a (darkness field) well, and you get all the blinds, and thus all the chill.

My own build is centered around this mechanic, and tanks just about anything.

Ebay has some talented guilds that obvously WVW a lot, and coordinate to a high degree. Awesome! this allows them to win fights against groups superior in number.

but to expect that anyone wants to put that much effort into WvW is a little… optimistic. Anet called it a casual pvp mode, if I recall correctly.

Don’t be suprised if some people take a more casual approach then, as strange as that might feel to more ‘hardcore’ WvWers.

If their major play times are offpeak and they can still contest the game in some way, it keeps it interesting for everyone involved.

Ebay has some great players, only let down by a few forum warriors. Luckily Menorah shows that not everyone’s like that. Please don’t rise to the bait.

Yak’s Bend is allied with EVERY server BUT SoS. In fact, in the DB/Mag/YB matchup all servers will be convening on middle island in DBBL to do /dance emotes, sing koombaya and bask in the total lack of fighting.

That’s how we roll.

I’m going to ignore above negativity, and instead say props to [TG]. Ran a couple of times into you guys in YBBL, and had some good fights. Sorry about that stealth ambush South of Arah’s; opportunity was too good to let slip!

Do you have screenies? This would make any follow up a lot easier, not to mention help prove your allegation.

As an Oceanic Commander I can tell you that though we are few, we still fight for all we’re worth, and manage to retain good morale through positive leadership and realistic goals.

New arrivals in the Oceanic timeslot would be welcomed as heroes.

I’m an Oceanic Commander for Yak’s Bend. Yak’s bend has very few players during this timeslot, and has consistently battled servers with vastly superior numbers in this timeslot, most notably Dragonbrand, Sea of Sorrows and Crystal Desert, and sometimes two of these servers at the same time. Since our Euro coverage isn’t that great either, siege often despawns before the oceanic floodgates hit us.

In this case its all about the ticks. Our borderlands currently flipped twice each night, once by DB, once by SoS, with about two hours between them. We delay them as long as possible by aggressively backcapping supply camps, and picking our battles.

once they completely cap the map we tend to focus only on killing Yaks, because doing so denies the opponent clear objectives to go after and expedites them moving on. Once they’re gone, we backcap as much as possible to get a few ticks in before the other server arrives. We then try to delay them by turning a few of the more defensible positions into deathtraps inside.

Since the walls will be paper at this point, the best thing you can do is make their life as difficult as possible when they breach. Use CC/area control to give your ACs and ballistas the time to do their work. breaches, gates and stairs are all natural chokepoints to exploit.

I’m looking forward to your donation of 100G to me and every other player on Yak’s Bend to outbid DB. I’m in awe of your powers of deduction and reasoning.

I don’t mean Yak’s Bend players have been gloating in this thread. That’s not my intent at all! I’m saying that I spend more of my time in WvW instead of the forums and YB players generally leave a sour taste in my mouth. I don’t find them particularly skilled at all and nine times out of ten they can’t beat me in a 1v1, let alone a 4v1 (which seems to happen more often). At the same time I find that YB players are the first to gloat, teabag, dance, and laugh over your body after their group of ten appears out of nowhere thanks to culling and runs a train on you. Crystal Desert seems to generally bow or move along after a fight; I’ve had maybe but two bad experiences with them?

THAT ALL BEING SAID…I will say that I have met some YB players that have been great opponents and it is obvious that the players posting in this thread are respectful to the end, whether sincere or otherwise. I’m simply stating that YB players on a whole (in WvW, not on the forums) seem to be quite full of themselves but coming from T1 and having played against some truly skilled players, I just find it silly for them to be so arrogant and disrespectful as a whole.

It only takes a few bad apples to ruin the bunch.

I’m curious why you are so willing to dismiss all players from a specific server outright, with sweeping generalisation, based on little more than personal anecdotal evidence. If I chose to, I could dismiss the whole of Maguuma because of some forum posters. but that would be plain silly of me.

It baffles me that people ascribe traits to servers like rude or arrogant, when a server’s population is so diverse. You’ve had some bad experiences with some rude people, but that doesn’t make the whole server rude.

I cordially invite you over to Yaksbend.com, our community site, so you can form a picture on more than just bad experiences.

Kaineng seems to have decent organisation, but I wasn’t too impressed individually. Dragonbrand, Maguuma and Ehmry had better individual players in my opinion, and more flexible strategies.

I find the attempt at poaching players from opposing servers you’re currently facing rather distasteful. From a Yak’s point of view, you can expect the same reply that we gave Blackgate.

There’s a couple of reasons why I personally don’t 1v1 in WvW;

• I generally play support characters;
• I probably lack the indiviual skill of someone that has learned their class in and out, and my reaction time is that of a slightly inebriated sloth.
• Most importantly though, the general attitude of some of the posters here that are confessed duelists seem to be one of derision. Why would I participate in an activity that would likely end with sledging, derision and humiliation? If dueling is so awesome, and you want more people to participate, then it could do with better PR.

I am NOT saying that anyone IS sledging/deriding at these duels; I am saying that this is the impression that I’ve gotten. I’m also not saying that this goes for the Maguuma population in general, or any other server.

It was about 15. They were mostly upleveled and ran down to the dueling area and got ran through pretty fast. They probably released before the image was taken.

It’s not bragging that they were wiped, it’s just that it’s another time where yaks runs down to the dueling area trying to wipe it, which is a crappy thing to try and do.

You are aware that what you call a ‘duelling area’ is just another part of the WvW map for anyone else? I would be very suprised if any of those upleveled players even knew what was going on there. The majority of any MMO I’ve played does not use the forums. The duelists are an even smaller subset of those that do use the forums.

IIRC Anet is implementing arena’s. This, I imagine, to facilitate dueling. would you guys go there, or stay in WvW? Merely being curious.

Look, it was your server that started this debate. Yaks should probably keep a low profile until they are back in their own Garrison at the very least.

What a strange thing to say. Servers don’t start debates; nobody’s been appointed to Yak’s Bend Official forum representative. I would hope you’d have the maturity to judge statements as that of individuals, from their own limited perspectives, as limited as your own.

If I were to judge Maguuma by a few select posters here, the image formed would be quite opposite to what I know Maguuma to be.

To people looking for an explanation to Yak’s poor opener: There was overconfidence, followed by a lot of new militia who are still finding their feet. The large Militia numbers were because of a recent PvE engagement drive, and possibly individual transfers of people looking for community first.

It is my hope that we can train those militia passionate about WvW to the standard we’d like everyone to be at in the weeks to come after free transfers close, and maybe grow our core WvW guilds a bit.

It’s quite possible that Yak’s Bend ends up with not enough coverage to compete in the upper tiers, and that’s fine. The majority in the Alliance is still playing this for fun.

having just faced DB I would have expected DB to ask for NA transfers; Although competent, DB’s Oceanic presence seems far larger than it’s NA one, with their opponents these last two weeks only able to delay DB’s massive nighttime army’s complete takeover each night.

I feel for the die hard Maguuma’s. Earlier in YBBL I just saw massive zergs with hardly a tag I recognised, apart from a pair of roaming [GOON]s. Maguuma doesn’t feel like Maguuma anymore, from an opponent’s point of view.

Let’s get past the population disparity; rather, look at it as an opportunity to learn how to deal with it. We all have an opportunity to learn something here that will benefit us in later matches.

It will take time to adjust, and maybe as things stand you might not be able to negate your opponents strong point.

But complaining about just reflects poorly on you and the server you represent.

In the last matchup vs DB vs Mag Maguuma effectively outmanoeuvred DB And YB with possibly the smallest overall population of the three. We’ll have to find an effective counter to the oceanic time slot disparity.

I think EBay shouldn’t be underestimated here, with [HIRE] certainly keeping YB on the back foot, from what I’ve seen.

This isn’t 2v1 btw; simply the opportunism inherent in a three way match. Kudos to them for making the most of it.

I’m not going to say my Guild’s not looking to boost numbers, players are the lifeblood of any guild, after all. We do tend to be discriminate on who we invite in, though, and wether they get to stay.

I represent the Society [SCTY] on Yak’s Bend. We’re not huge, just shy of 50 members, but we got a good thing going. Friendly helpful people, with a core that’s been around since BWE1 or 2. We welcome anyone that’s looking for a social group to play with, on a trial basis to see if you’re a good fit.

We enjoy most aspects of the game, and have some adamant fans of WvW. We’re also part of theYak’s Bend Alliance. Regular Dungeon runs are each Wednesday evening (NA) but a few members really have gotten into dungeon running, so you’re likely to get a group most days.

The Society is an international guild that’s part of a larger family at Champion’s Online and Facebook. We’ve always put community and inclusiveness first. We like our gaming drama free, and have a great track record in that regard.

It seems you are the one with disdain. If you look back at my message history, you will find that I like both Mag and DB. Seeing them ahead in a match where they should not be winning makes me happy for them. Nowhere in my earlier post did I bash YB. And while I do dislike YB, if you actually read my earlier post, the fact that I don’t like YB is pretty irrelevant. I am genuinely curious as to why you are underperforming. YB now should be stronger than DH at their prime. I am aware they have fallen, but that is not my point. DH at their prime could probably still beat current Mag and current DB or at least do as well as YB is doing now.

I find it curious how someone could dislike a random collection of people with no other connection than that they happen to play on the same server. Personally I tend to dislike individuals.

To your question; my observations are complete mine, and therefore only represents a limited view, but it seems to me that YB is a victim of its own success. We have had extra people coming in, while at the same time losing some people to the holidays.

This manifests in more small guilds, often with their own commanders, doing their own thing. You can imagine the confusion of unaffiliated players with 6 or even more commander tags on the map. This takes away from overall cohesion. It will take time to reorganise our new additions, but we should end up stronger as a result.

From what I can tell, DB has the upper hand in the Oceanic time slot, and are impressively making the most of their advantage, Kudos to them.

Maguuma is resilient as always. If they suffered a loss of numbers they effectively managed to compensate for that. Well done.

It’ll be interesting to see what DB will bring come NA nighttime. Do they still have all the Taiwanese?
