Poor Rewards for GW2

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

The main rewards in GW2 are cosmetic – that’s how the game’s always been designed (it was the same in GW1). You’re not supposed to be constantly getting better and more powerful equipment, just things which look different and potentially nicer/more interesting. That is of course subjective, but I think there’s a wide enough variety that everyone should be able to find something they like.

What if that, “something they like,” is best in slot gear for the various builds they like to run? Not increasingly stronger, just BIS. An average of one weapon per year does not seem particularly rewarding to me either.

Remember, ANet decided to implement a higher tier of gear, a performance increase, as part of the reward model of the game.

OP says they have been playing for five years. If they really just want BIS, then that’s easily achievable by crafting alone, with a bit of patience and effort. Since the post is about rewards though, they just want to be either luckier with drops, or more generous drops overall.

My point is that if you’re really after BIS then relying on drops while you can earn those through a variety of ways within the game you’re being unrealistic.

Devs have said that wvw is on its own release schedule, so don’t expect anything with the xpac.

I’d argue that in the condi meta most Zerg eles (Tempests) would be frontline support, able to provide a lot of condi cleanse and healing. It’s more about sustain than damage, with necros being the main damage dealers. Some groups still run backline Eles, but your positioning needs to be impeccable..

The reason you couldn’t find server specific forums is because server identity only matters for WvW, the pen world PvP mode.

For general PvE maps are populated using an algorithm that prioritises parties, squads, friends, guildies en servermates, before adding people from other servers. Once a map is full, a new instance of that map is created and populated. If you want to play with someone in another map you can join them as long as their map isn’t full.

This means the world always feels populated. Welcome to GW2!

Ok, I think what happened with the glider is that you did not properly unlock it. It needs both a full bar of XP and a mastery point before you can fully unlock it.

It sounds like you already have decent gear if you have Bezerker gear. Mouse over your gear to see if it’s level 80 gear and if it’s labelled ‘exotic’ in the tooltip. Exotic gear is golden, rare is yellow. Green and blue would be trash.

What you are probably experiencing is the higher difficulty in HoT maps. Bezerker is full glass cannon, and those mobs will one or two shot you if you don’t actively mitigate through positioning, using skills, traits and dodges.

Post your build here and we can help you suss that out.

Hey mate,

One thing stuck out to me, you’re using default keybinds. Having to reach all the way across your keyboard to hit a utility is awkward and slow. So change them so something easier depending on your mouse.

Hit F 11 and then click the mouse icon on the left. Then rebind your keys depending on how many mouse buttons you have.

Edit: it’s possible you are a clicker. Clicking is very slow. Try to get used to keybinds for better performance.

Convenient way to target squad leader?

in Players Helping Players

Right click on the commander or other player in squad that is in the instance you want to join. From the dropdown that appears select ‘join in’. This will take you to the selected instance of that map as long as it isn’t full yet.

This works in both squad and party.

To join a squad without clicking on the commander you can use /squadjoin [name of commander].

Hope that helps.

About gear inspection: This can only be done voluntarily, and requires the other player’s assistance. Ask them to ‘ping’ their gear.

Pinging gear is done by shift+left clicking on each gear item. This will put it as a link in the chat box. After you hit enter other players can now mouse over said gear to check stats, and even preview it on their own character.

in WvW

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

There is no discrimination here. The extra pips are a reward earned for time spend playing, whether in EotM or WvW. I could have more ranks if I karma trained EotM too, but that is no fun for me, so I didn’t.

Trying to restrict other people’s rewards that they worked hard to earn is what’s wrong here. Not only that; you’re shooting yourself in the foot in the long run if you were to keep playing.

Regardless of whether you are able to buy a gems card though, I’d recommend the earlier suggestion first. Your current issue might prevent you from using a gems card as well.

Can I level up to 80 in PvP or WvW maps?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

Although I’d love to see you go WvW, it’s easier to level in PvP, since an uplevel in WvW won’t have access to top tier gear and all traits, making you very easy to kill.

PvP is structured differently, where everyone starts on even footing, skill, experience and a bit of luck with the teammates you get the decider.

If you absolutely HAVE to level in WvW stick to a competent pugmander that’s karma training. Edge of the Mists might be a better option for this, although I don’t know how populated it is these days..

The anti zerk sentiment wasn’t about making it unviable, but rather, to make condi a credible alternative. The current sentiment is that they went too far. Instead of an alternative, it has become the new Zerker meta.

The argument sounds familiar because it is the same argument. It was never about anti zerk or anti condi. It’s about pro diversity. Just because some people saturate their argument in hyperbole doesn’t mean the main argument isn’t sound.

If you like a wide array of playstyles, don’t worry about picking a class. Most classes can fill a number of roles, some just shine more at certain roles. If you find that you want something else later, that’s where the lvl 80 boost comes in.

New to WvW, but I still hate it

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

Most likely causes of stealth breaking early are 1) dealing damage and 2) your opponent using a reveal.

Trying to WvW with PvE gear and a PvE build is tantamount to suicide, especially to a newcomer. PvE builds are all about max DPS; WvW builds are designed for survivability. As you become more experienced, you trade off defensive gear for offense, and compensate with knowledge of your build and situational awareness. Roamers tend to be glassier than players in larger groups.

As others have said, build tankier. This will make it harder to kill someone, but it gives you more time to recover and learn. You sound like you don’t understand your class very well. Use the class specific forums and Youtube/Twitch to learn more. You can bet other roamers know the ins and outs of their classes. Join a roaming guild if that’s your thing, and learn from more experienced players.

New player questions on leveling

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

Core map conpletion is only needed for the old legendaries. The newer ones only require you to clear each HoT map.

Note that you do not need Legendary gear. Ascended is equally good. Legendaries are flashier and allow stat swapping on the fly, but are otherwise the same statwise.

As stated above, it’s recommended you level up conventionally on your first toon to learn the basics. Everything you do will grant XP, so don’t worry about it. The levelling up experience is a great part of the game for new players, and there is plenty to explore and discover.

Welcome to GW2.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

You are overly alarmist. While it’s true that Anet has changed tack several times to try and make Living World a workable model, they seem to have finally hit their stride with a steady cadence of releases, and a new episode coming February. We also know that they are working on a new expac.

About your concern about people leaving; GW2 was in production for 7 years, and has run for another 4. It’s not that strange to have staff turnover in that time, for any company. Even if it seems are leaving at the same time it’s impossible to say why that iswithout insider knowledge. It’s just as likely that it is because of a sudden abundance of new opportunities and people following their friends than anything wrong at Anet.

Bias is a very poor basis for any argument. Stick to the facts.

Alternative: Racial specialisation.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

Hi peeps.

One of the most recurring requests is the one for additional races. Proponents seem to want the extra customisation options, while opponents tend to point out the extra work and costs involved.

How about meeting somewhere in the middle? What if the next expansion (or the one after that) came with racial specialisation? Iike elite specialisations these would be unlocked as part of an expac, obviously only for 80s and higher, and would allow for a host of new customisation based on the existing races with with a specific theme. To minimise work they’d be focused on the head for facial customisation. Each racial specialisation would also have access to a unique armour set and weapon skins.

Some examples could include:

Human: Canthan – asian features and hairstyles, Samurai style armour and weapons.
Norn: Cyclopean look – a related tribe from the far shiverpeaks. Icey armour and weapons.
Asura: Deep Asura – purple skin tones, reddish or violet eyes, cranial ridges.
Charr: ferals – more feral look, new horns, primitive armour and weapons.
Sylvari: The Lost (those once corrupted by Mordy) – Looks like corrupted Sylvari in HoT.

The above are some off the cuff ideas, but you can see where I’m going with this. The pros are more easily implementable customisation options that give you something unique to create, without the need to redo existing armour, starting city, voice work and personal story. Cons are in suspension of disbelief:“How’d you get to be a Cyclops all of a sudden?” and that it still is a fair amount of work regardless.

What do you guys think? Is this feasible in your eyes? Is it something you’d want? Do you have an awesome idea for a racial specialisation?
