Yeah, I reject your premise, since success in this game is different for different people playing different gametypes.

Not only that, even if we were to accept your premise, calling it P2W falls flat since for it to be so you should only be able to buy the relevant items with money, and this game has gold to gems conversion.

What are your keybinds like, and do you have any additional buttons on your mouse?

Once you do have keybinds you are comfortable with, you need to read up on comboes for your class if unfamiliar with them, and be aware of your role. Thief is best at quick caps/decaps, and as a +1 in fights. Duelling on a thief is a lot harder if you don’t know what you are doing.

No guilds and no wars ... what am I missing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

You are missing a lot, since your approach to the game seems to be heavily colored by your previous experiences in WoW.

There’s a whole subforum for guild recruitment on this very forum, have a look there if you wish to join a guild. There are many guilds recruiting in mapchat as well, and if you google the forums for your server (not every server has one, but the majority does) you can find guilds recruiting there as well. not every guild is going to suit your needs; it’s up to you to find one (or up to five) that suit you.

Major hubs like LA and DR are generally hives of people chatting, joking and helping each other out. With the right guild you’ll have a constant chatter going on as well. Guilds often use voip as well, so pay attention to that when looking for one. A guild might seem dead to you when in fact everyone is using voip.

Give WvW more time. Again, visit your server website and meet the people/guilds there. most servers will have server voip which they use to organise their troops, run their battles, and exchange intel.

GW2 PvE was designed with the casual at heart. If you want the fear of ganking, go solo roam in WvW or EotM. It’s there, just not where you expect, and implemented differently than you’re used to.

There’s no direct translation from your battlegrounds to a pvp form here. You can either choose skill based 5 a side, or incredibly large scale in WvW. Maybe joining a WvW guild proves closer; 15 or 20 guys very skilled and tightly run, busting zergs twice their size or more.

Leave your preconceptions at WoW, and try to enjoy a different game for what it is for best results.

When will charrs get posture fix?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

This wouldn’t be just a ‘fix’.

They would have to make a completely new skeleton, redo ALL the body armour at the very least, and redo or adjust all animations.

That’s a lot of work because a few players don’t like the posture of Charr characters, probably needing quit a lot of artists and animators that could be used for playable content.

After you’re 80 your XP bar becomes a mastery progression bar. Each time you fill up the bar you can purchase a mastery with mastery points, with subsequent tiers taking more mastery points.

Different areas (for now, there’s 2; Core and HoT) have a seperate set of masteries. So dependent on where you are you earn progression for either Core masteries of HoT ones. This is why your progression bar was empty once you entered HoT; you did not actually earn any progression for HoT masteries yet.

Hope that clears it up.

2) Calls for the first/second guardian in each party of the Melee train to activate ‘Stand Your Ground’ to give temporary resistance to CC.

3) Target the Arrowcart.

4) a bomb is a concentration of AoE, generally on the Tag’s (commander’s) location. This is done to overwhelm the enemy without them being able to recover.

If you bought HoT you’ll have gotten the ‘instant 80’ item in the shared character slot. I’d advise not to use it on your first character. There’s a lot to experience in the core world.

Since you’re from WoW, don’t focus too much on Hearts. If there’s an event in the area, go there. Completing it generally counts against the heart as well, and open world endgame is completely event driven.

Do what you want. Just about anything will give XP. There’s a lot of hidden gems for you to discover in the nooks and crannies of each map.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help in game. Due to design decisions that incentivise cooperation (ressing others gives you XP, no competition for kills or nodes) you’re more likely to get it. Feel free to jump into fights, as long as someone does a base amount of damage on a mob they’ll get credit. The only killstealing you’ll ever see is high level players in lowbie zones for a daily. They generally will wait for any lowbies to tag before nuking mobs though.

t2 desert camps

It would be easy enough to move all the camp guards closer to the center, so you’d always have to fight all of them to flip a camp. But to be clear, you guys are arguing that you want to do ‘more PvE’, which seems to go against the forum’s current agenda of ‘less PvE.’

I’m sorry, are we violating your gamemode?

I don’t recall people ever complaining about too much PvE before the introduction of DBL. It obviously refers to the high density of unnecessary mobs and obstacles in DBL.

That makes you suggestion disingenuous at best.

Never heard of people complaining about too much PvE before DBL? Where have you been? It’s been a complaint since a week after launch. When peopole started random creatures to rally/use movement skills/stealth/etc. when in fights. And who didn’t love being randomly put into combat speed in open field when hitting one by accident.

Complaints about pve are rarely about NPC guards, especially since the desert BL launch. NPCs are clearly necessary, all players would agree with that. I just hope Tyler realises that.

This isn’t what he said though, he just said " PvE before the introduction of DBL" and also made a rather rude recall to the one Anet Dev who interupted a GvG about gamemode violation, they just seem salty, and they are spewing out nonsense to boot. The PvE comment still stands, noone would complain about guards, but PvE in general is overly high, and always has been.

Be offended by my call out all you want, but suggesting that the few complaints about rallying off npcs on the ABLs was anyway near the outcry over all the extra mobs on DBL is the actual nonsense.

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

When i read the majority of the posts, i wonder if you guys understand what anet said with “raid won’t be for everyone”

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/raids-in-guild-wars-2/

read it pls everyone. raid are maybe not for you that’s all (people “hating” the meta, refusing the adapt, not wanting to put some effort (lol 6h in first boss that’s nothing, i’ve spent around 15h on it…)).
Pls guys, just accept that for once in gw2, there is something that, maybe, is not for you. And again, that’s not a problem. i hate wvw and pvp, so i just dont play it.

They did say that, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be accepted, considering the previous and current content drought.

GW2 was originally marketed to casual players, and a large part of their player base will therefore expect content they can experience without jumping through hoops. Jumping through hoops might be fun for you; it’s not to others. Should they then be excluded just to please a smaller subset of players (again, within the context of offering the remaining players next to nothing) with raids and its one difficulty setting that requires the sort of time and effort casual players do not have?

Raids could have been made more accessible without sacrificing a harder mode for those interested in that. Instead they chose to cater to a relatively small group only, while leaving the rest of the player base out in the cold twiddling their thumbs.

If you don’t have the time, skill, inclination or appropriate timezone you’re SOL.

MY LOVELY EDIT:
The same situation is with you – WvW moaners. You don’t like the map, because it’s bugged so you want the old one back. What with people who fell in love with Desert Borderlands? Well? kitten THEM, WE WILL MOAN AND MOAN UNTILL WE GET IT.
Because it’s hard to please devs to prepare lots of bug fixes and write things into bug tracker, report them etc. Congratulations. I don’t even want to say what are you, because I believe I’d get ban quickly.

What makes you think that your particular preference is more important than those you label ‘moaners’? Anet put up a poll that came back overwhelmingly in favour of the Alpine Borderlands.

You seem to suggest that people would rather cry for the old map back instead of filling bug reports and highlighting other issues, even though the WvW forums and the DBL Beta forum have been filled with them.

The reason that people asked for the ABL back is because the core issue is the actual map itself. And that’s not something you can fix with a simple bugfix but requires a complete redesign.

Anet’s communication policy will practically ensure we’ll get an overhaul based on their vague interpretation of what the players want.

Anet reads the forums, but do not directly engage. Without asking for reasons behind a suggestion or criticism you are trying to fix an issue with limited understanding. You have as much chance at fixing the issue as you have of not fixing it at all or making it worse.

As a direct result of this policy Anet doesn’t really release anything to the publikittenil the core is firmly set in stone. The beta weekends for the Desert BLs is a good example of this. Many of the issues raised then caused people to sour on the BLs with no changes made. Not that meaningful changes were possible at that point; the so-called Beta weekends were stress tests at best, or publicity events at worst.

Classic WvW Consumer & New WvW Consumer

in WvW

Pretty Pixie.8603

As much as i would liek to supportall these great ideas and solutions that the community has come up with I’m afraid we’re flogging a dead horse.

Anet will do what Anet wants and it’s as simple as that, I’m already looking for a new RvR gamemode in an MMO to play but they are all so bland with very boring combat that involves sieging for over half a day with huge ability cast times.

I honestly think Anet are actually being maliscious at this point with thier complete lack of involvement with the WvW community, thier consistant dismissal and ignoring of solid ideas from people who acutally play the game mode. They have to make a conscious disiscion to do what they do because it can’t be by accident they do the EXACT OPPOSITE of what we want every time.

I am amazed that no company hasn’t carbon copied Gw2 WvW with it’s class mechanics, maps, siege and combat etc because if they did and they listened to the community and did as we asked WvW would be only played by people wanting to level in Gw2. I would even be happy to pay a small sub if it meant i get a high qaulity version of Anets WvW because Anets WvW is no longer a quality product.

Requesting Guild Hall Claim Info

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

It’s my understanding that the guild claiming mission scales with the number of participants, and I’ve heard of successful hall captures by small guilds.

You have to defeat a number of Mordrem maws, who have a shield up. To lower the shield you need to kill the Mordrem Vintenders, then kill the Maws. This is on a timelimit, so bring DPS. Also note that these maws appear in different locations, both on the main guildhall, or in lower levels.

After killing 5 of these you need to kill the Mordrem Knight(s). With your small group it’ll probably be just 1. Some of these are very hard to melee, and have breakbars, so bring range with plenty of CC.

Hope that helps. I suggest going for Lost Precipice since it’s easier to access. If you decide you want Gilded Hallow, you can chance Guildhalls afterwards. See if you can get a friend to help out to make your party five. It seems to scale in lots of five players, and it makes it easier to make that time limit.

How many quit playing WvW since new maps?

in WvW

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

Seems a clear result of Anet designing according to metrics without context. Their metrics show that ‘WvWers are PvEers too’. Which is correct, but mostly because you can’t get the rewards from WvW in the first place. You HAVE to play PvE if you want to WvW, to pay for food, gear, siege, etc.

And of course there’s a lot of PvX players as well. I’m one, leaning strongly towards WvW for my endgame. Treating all WvW players as cohesive entity based on metrics is a mistake, since people have different interests. Interests that the original design allowed and encouraged.

The new map, guildhall design, guild cata nerf, auto upgrades all conspire to kill off roamers and small guilds. If you think that WvWers are PvEers it makes perfect sense to gate WvW buffs behind goldsinks and timegates. They’re playing that anyway, right? We get to artificially extend playtime for two modes! Wooo!.

Unfortunately, that’s completely out of touch with how many people play, and want to play. If you’re one of those WvW players in a large PvX guild it’s not going to affect you all that much.

It’s killer for the rest of us though.

lots of mess, little communication

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pretty Pixie.8603

As far as communication goes, don’t expect anything. From what I’ve been able to piece together Anet Employees have to complete training to even post, and even then aren’t allowed to talk about certain things. Any communication they do is in their own time.

Given all that I would be discouraged to communicate too. Here lies the rub though. Anet DOES read the forums. But because interacting with the public is so discouraged, developers end up not asking questions to dig deeper into what people think/want/think they want.

As a result you get things that were requested but not in the way people wanted it, because developers lack the context to make what was needed. You only have to look at the new Borderland map to see that at work.

TL;DR: Anet’s communication policy of just listening without questioning leads to misinterpretation of what players want.

From what I’ve seen so far the whole game is now favouring large guilds. Needing to be part of a large guild just to be able to WvW isn’t going to entice me to come back, although I’ll wait and see how it turns out.

I’m not particularly optimistic when the guy in charge thinks WvW players are PvE players. It might be true, but as a PvX player I don’t enter WvW for more PvE. How can they not see that? It’s clear that their metrics don’t hold all the answers. At the very least their interpretation on their metrics shows a lack of understanding of why people play WvW.

It’s not for more PvE.

Scribing profession is unreasonable

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

My main issue with Scribe is that it’s the only profession that mainly provides items for others, and as such the design of Scribe seems to suggest that a guild is supposed to donate to their scribe. The costs are prohibitive for small or even medium guilds, because not everyone is going to be able or willing to contribute.

Then there’s the problem with Scribe being a profession, and therefore dependent on the player. If the player can’t play as much anymore, or stops playing altogether, all your guild’s effort is wasted. And then there’s the possibility of the scribe holding the guild hostage (do what I say or I leave) or outright scamming (thanks for all the mats, suckers! I’m off! Lolz).

All in all a terrible implementation in a game that was originally designed to eliminate this kind of grieving. The Dev team now isn’t the one that made the base game, nor do they seem to embrace their design vision.

A shame that his guild and others are having troubles, but just because you can’t do a VERY small portion of the game with your casual PvE guild doesn’t mean there’s a big issue here. Those people just need to find a separate group to raid with; that’s why you can be in several guilds at once. I have my guild that I play with in general PvE, I’m in a pvp guild, and I have a guild filled solely with raid buddies.

It’s a small part of the game, that takes a lot of time and participation of those playing it. Anet has already committed to multiple wings and multiple Raids, plus a lot of repeat play is needed to get the rewards.

what you suggested with multiple guilds is exactly what happened, as stated in my earlier post. That means that those participating are in some cases not repping, and certainly not interacting with the parent guild.

In our case some lower ranks repped their raid guilds, others, mostly staff, still repped but were not able to cummunicate due to the need to pay attention to the raid/voip. As a result the guildchat became a lot more muted, and potential new recruits were met with silence and a lot of people not repping. Were vets used to be able to quickly respond to questions of new players before, now those questions went unanswered, leading to frustration by players thinking they were ignored.

In smaller guilds, 5-8 people not interacting with the guild is a big hit. And our raiders didn’t act elitist or anything; they lamented the need to go outside the guild. Raid design needs more specialised guilds, and puts pressure on established PvX guilds with players with a mix of interests.

Ofcourse, raids alone aren’t to blame. A lot of design choices favour larger guilds, like the massive goldsink of scribing and guildhalls in general. The dissatisfaction with WvW of our WvW players, etc. But they certainly contributed.

It’s not really about being able to acquire Legendary armour. It’s about participation. My guild is a PvX which welcomed people from all skill levels. The design of the game previously allowed that. Vets could help lesser skilled players through content.

Raids strongly discourage that. As a result, more veteran players that had the skill and experience found that there weren’t enough players in the guild with the required skill level within the guild, and looked to friends outside the guild to be able to run Raids, fracturing our community.

You can hardly blame anyone for wanting to play the new raid content, or demand that they try and carry less skilled guildies in content that doesn’t allow it. It’s the sharp yank in design philosophy that caused this.

Between this and a number of other grievances about HoT a guild that has run since the first beta weekend is now closing shop at the end of the month. The sort of social ’everyone’s welcome’ guild comes under a lot of strain when new content punishes it.

I remeber Colin saying during the HoT reveal that GW2 would never invalidate your progress. He was talking about gear grind at the time, but its ironic that invalidating progress is exactly what they did to guilds that had upgrades unlocked. Its twice as sour when you consider the goldsink/timesink involved to get back to what’s really just very basic guild utility, like being able to claim structures in WvW.

I suspect that its a sign of a move to only supporting large guilds. Scribing takes a lot of materials, with the seeming intention that the guild contributes to the guild scribe. Now, not every member wil be able or willing to do so, making it neccessary to have even more players.

The Hall itself likewise needs a lot of gold and time, favouring large guilds. And Reddit has a since deleted rumour thread that suggested that WvW will become Alliance based, with 3 large guilds per Alliance. This last bit is speculative and based on nothing more than rumour, but it does seem to fit the current direction.

This leaves small and medium guilds out in the cold. Of course Anet would not want people to quickly max out their guildhalls, but there should have been some sort of scaling depending on guild actives. We already know the game tracks this, since influence was calculated on actives.

HoT introduced a lot in the way of goldsinks, presumably to proactively combat inflation with all the new mats and items coming in. I understand the need to draw gold out of an economy that generates currency out of nothing.

However, some of the goldsinks chosen are especially punative to smaller/WvW guilds since raising the wealth neccessary to get the upgrades needed is a lot harder for them.
