Anyone else underwhelmed by the"Elite" specs?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Pretty Pixie.8603

Seems a clear example of expectations not meeting reality. Specialisations allow you to fine tune how your character plays. The Elite specialisations add changes to mechanics and extra skills to that. Seems perfectly in line with what they’re trrying to accomplish.

I’m not sure why you’d want a medic specialisation, when most professions have access to supportive traits and rez traits. Couple those with the right gear, and you got your medic.

I would wager a lot of people would be rather upset with an Elite specialisation that lets you do something you already could, effortlessly. It would add nothing.

No sympathy, organized double team to crush their precious PPT for weeks at a time until they wear down, SBI and Maguuma did it to DB months ago to straighten out T3, T3 is pretty kitten fun now I gotta admit, it will work against Yaks, it doesnt matter how blobby they are kill their rating even it’s it’s wooden towers and supply camps. Send them the message that they are NOT going to Tier 1 and watch the kitten hit the fan.

Yes please, that would be fun. Not sure if FA/SoS has the manpower/orgnaisation at this point to pull it off though, but please, prove me wrong.

Celestial questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pretty Pixie.8603

Celestial is a statset best used for classes that can take advantage of all increases. Engie and Ele work well, since they have good base damage, with good added condition damage. On top of that, they both have multiple ways to apply regen, which is a healing boon that actually scales decently with healing power. Most heals don’t.

It can also be applied to guards, but a mix is generally prefered. I run ’Zerker with Cele weapons/trinkets for more burning damage, survivability and more meditation heals when roaming.

Cele would be good on WvW engie/ele roamers.

I find your reasoning strange, OP. Because Berserker got something you considered good for your Ele, you don’t want to play anymore?

You can’t expect a Dev team to have the exact same creative instincts you have. Nor is yours neccessarily superior.

I would personally hold judgement until the final version is available to play. By stopping play now you give up all opportunity to give feedback to shape the Elite spec in a direction you think is better.

To sumarise; one character regardless of weight class can unlock all skins aquired through play, like drops, dungeon and karma vendors, crafting and the TP; the character is restricted to cultural armour of his/her race, and Order skins of the faction joined in the personal story.

Once unlocked, any character will be able to use any skin allowed by their profession, as long as you have the transmutation charges.

This thread is absolutely unbelievable. The developers didn’t set the price. They also don’t deserve the hate, and in most cases, they haven’t. This is done by marketing and is done completely over their head. They likely have absolutely no say whatsoever in what the pricing is like.

Vocalizing our complaints is better for the developers than not saying anything and just not buying the expansion. We’re complaining because we want to buy the expansion, but feel as though we’re not getting our money’s worth if we do. By staying silent and not purchasing, all this looks like to management is that the expansion conceptually failed, and the developers did a sub-par job at it. This likely leaves the people who actually built the expansion at a loss – possibly even losing their jobs – and it doesn’t improve the situation for anyone. It also keeps management who made these stupid decisions unaccountable in their minds, and does nothing to change the business approach that led them to get backlash to begin with.

Vocalizing our concerns gets communications teams involved and the issue looked into further, and the blame is only traced back to management and marketing for failing on the pricing and business logic. You can’t accuse a dev of doing their job poorly by low sales on a game that hasn’t been released yet. That lies solely on management and marketing.

So if the OP actually gives a kitten and wants to treat ANet’s employees with respect as human beings, he should encourage civil criticism and support the vocalization as a mean of protecting the developers who bring us high-quality content. If there are complaints on the content itself, like bugs, bad design decisions, etc., then it’s also the responsibility of the developers to accept the fact they made mistakes (we all do, especially in programming and development), be thankful for the feedback, and fix it.

Yes, there’s no sense in just insulting random employees, but the people who actually worked kitten this content have nothing to do with the bullcat attitude from ANet’s marketing and management teams regarding the pricing and communications policies pertaining to HoT.

Intelligent and constructive post.

Genuinely impressed.

why we need to sacrifice for the new players

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Pretty Pixie.8603

Pretty Pixie.8603

Wow what a terrible analogy.

It’s more like every other MMO is doing. If you buy the current EQ game you get every single EQ game that came before. If you buy the original WoW and the current update, you get all the updates in between free.

I’m not sure why people are so attached to the idea that they’re paying more, or not getting something. If the expansion was always going to be $50 then you’re not paying more for it. If the original game was already being sold at times for $10, then it was likely not worth marketing separately anyway, and adding another barrier of entry to new players.

Come on Vayne, You’re obviously intelligent. You don’t have to agree with it, but there is a perception created by poor marketing that there’s less value for an existing customer.

And if you learn math, that’s a cool extra for you.
You forgot prices. x-pac is 50$, character slot $10. so if 1/4th of buyers gets the slot they’ll make 1/20 (5%) extra on sales extra in that case.

Now is that worth getting in bad with players and having their good name tarnished? I’ll let a-net provide an answer to that.

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20130604134550-284615-15-statistics-that-should-change-the-business-world-but-haven-t

Interesting reading, for those who are sure that only those being vocal are those unhappy with the HoT situation.

Great post, as I have a background in sales as well.

I’m a big believer in #3.
3. The probability of selling to an existing customer is 60 – 70%. The probability of selling to a new prospect is 5-20% – Marketing Metrics.

Which is why bundling the core game with HoT DOESN’T make sense.

I agree, but those 60-70% are automatic “in the bag” sales, no effort required.

Here’s what I’m thinking. Somewhere in this thread there is a link from the Korean(IIRC?) securities/stock exchange which basically stated that 2 million copies of HoT have to be sold. Bundling the core game with HoT allows sales of the core game to be counted as HoT sales and vise versa which COULD NOT be done if the core game was a stand alone purchase.

Not including the character slot seems a lazy way to inflate earnings so they can make their salestarget.

Instead of relying on giving the existing customer value and hope on more word of mouth and goodwill to drive gemstore sales, they went for the cynical cashgrab.

Your ‘Logic’ is illogical. It presumes that everyone that’s upset will actively post here. That’s not true.

No , I don’t assume that. See here:

But there are also a lot of players that are just as unhappy and not posting about it.

That is true. There are unhappy people out there who can’t/don’t want to post. But it’s more likely that they will complain opposed to unhappy or indifferent people who never complain. Therefore the people you see complaining on the forums are a fraction of an already small fraction. Therefore they must be in the minority.

……………………..

What we do have is a large sample of very disgruntled customers. A statistical majority. If your illogical theory was true, no company would ever address the concerns of their forum communities.

And yet EAnet quickly backed out of their plans of charging individually for colored commander tags.

A large sample of very disgruntled customers is not a statistical majority. They’re just that: a large sample. Maybe a few hundreds of upset posters on the forums. That’s few compared to the hundreds of thousands you never hear of. Even if every single forum poster would be unhappy about the preorder they couldn’t reach a majority because the forum is such a small part compared to the entire player base on the planet.

It appears that you lack basic understanding of statistics, although I can see how painting unhappy customers as a neglible group would suit your argument.

If you are right, EAnet can happily ignore the outcry in a 4800 post thread, the most upvoted thread in the GW2 subreddit, and the mediacoverage.

We’ll see.

1) The majority of players do not post on the forums. That’s a fact.
2) That majority of non-forumgoers can either feel happy, indifferent or unhappy about the game.
3) It’s far more likely that the happy and indifferent players combined are a bigger portion than the unhappy players. Why? because if it was the other way around we would suddenly have a majority of players complaining on the forums since unhappy people are the only ones who complain…and that would interfere with sentence 1).
4) Therefore we can deduce that the complainers are in the minority.

As you can see we don’t need numbers to prove that. All it needs is logic and some common sense.
Also it doesn’t matter if you understand this or not (though I hope you will). All that matters is that Arenanet understands it.

Your ‘Logic’ is illogical. It presumes that everyone that’s upset will actively post here. That’s not true.

This is already diving down, there are way less people complaining than a few days ago. Also here is a fact , majority of players are happy with pre purchase. I’m not talking about people on forum, I’m talking about people in game. Just go in game and ask at lion arch or any other major hubs. The majority of response I got are positive. People who are unhappy with the situation are more likely to go on forum and complain.

Anekdotal evidence isn’t. I could say the opposite. You do not have any numbers to show a majority, unless you have access to EAnet data.

Also, a lot depends on how you would phrase something like this.

Asking;‘Are you happy with your prepurchase’ would have a majority of people responding that actually purchased it, not those that are unhappy and holding out.

Please don’t engage in logical fallacies to make a point.

Yet still no reponse. To me that’s the equivalent of asking to speak to a supervisor and the attendant saying ‘sure!’ walk off, and never return.

Listening means taking data, having meetings, discussing things and making decisions on a company level. Your analogy is an unfair one. Getting a supervisor takes one person to get one person.

And even then, if you had a supervisor who had nothing to say because this affects company wide policy this supervisor wouldn’t be able to help you anyway.

….is pretty fine to me.

Look at all the things we are getting with HoT.

- Elite Specializations
- New weapon for each class
- New post level 80 leveling system
- Rumored 5 new zones with 3 “sub-sections”
- 2 Zones dedicated to Guild Halls
- Guild Halls
- New Class
- New WvW Map
- Various new WvW mechanics
- New sPvP Map
- New sPvP Mode
- New Confirmed Challenging Content

Then later on down the road….you’ll get Living World Season 3 and 4, if we assume that it’ll be 2 season between each expac. You also get more feature packs, and more balance patches. You could sink hours upon hours into this expansion.

That is awesome for just 50.00

-There will be masteries for the core game, not exclusive.
-We only know we’re getting Verdant Brink for certain. Rumours are just that, rumours.
-WvW map will be available with core.
-PvP map will be available with core.
-PvP mode will be available with core.
-Can you give me details about this challenging content? For all we know they might have refered to new bosses like the Wyvern.

LS will likely be financed by gemstore revenue, like the previous two.

Shall they just add 500 new world bosses that are all the same so they can advertise some fancy numbers?

Wait until you see the beta and then you can decide if the quantity but especially the quality of content is enaugh for you.

It’s just pointless to discuss it now.

Numbers give a broad indication of how much content we’ll be getting. We have a good idea of the quality we can expect, we’ve played the core game.

If it only includes one world boss and little else, that will impact on the value awarded to the expac.

Quantity matters in expansions.

You have not fully grasped all the problems people have with the prepurchase. Most are fine with $50, as long as they get $50 worth of value. Many feel this is not the case.

Anet is dependent on it’s return customers to keep generating income. They therefore will need to provide enough value, or risk alienating a large group of their gemstore sponsors.

Futher more, this has exploded to where it is now due to a total lack of damage control by Anet. A post by Colin saying they either look into it, or that it is indeed final would have done a lot to mitigate that. They chose not to do so, even as Colin responded to questions about ascended gear on this very forum.

I sympatise with your sentiments, but it’s a situation of their own making.

Edit: there is no free content. If you never spend a dime in the genstore and played the living story ‘for free’, you played something that was paid for by veterans through gemstore purchases.

Then don’t pay.

The trick is, if you say “It’s not fair!” or “Arenanet owes us this!” or any of the other

I think a lot of the inter-player conflict in this goes along this.

1) A few really loud voices go crazy and throw out this over-the-top spoiled language.
2) Lots of people who don’t like the cost, are annoyed by needing to clear or buy a slot, etc. get onboard digging that sweet outrage high.
3) Another group reacts to that first group the way you feel when you see a particularly spoiled child nagging their mother at the grocery store.
4) The people who aren’t so strident (or didn’t start that way) are both insulted by the implication they’re being bratty children and double down due to the opposition effect, coming closer to the actual bratty children squalling up in point 1.

I like how you managed to label anyone having issues with the pricing in one way or another as irrational. That takes some doing. Masterful ad hominem.

Slow clap

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

I did read the post, and re-read it again. You invalidated your own argument by dismissing the secondary option of the one thing you are complaining about. By rights, to technically enjoy all aspects of the original game you need 15 character slots, given the 3 choices per race for storyline in the first part. If you dismiss that, then you still need 8 to play every profession. If you are going to dismiss that one, you will in turn dismiss your own argument because saying you need a Rev to play HoT is like saying you need all 8 profs to play the base game…

You don’t ‘need’ a Rev to play the expansion. But it is a major part of it and direct access is not included. If you want to play what you paid for (the rev) you need to get a character slot, which is going to be a sacrifice on the part of the customer.

Either you delete a character (and lose the birthday counter, bound gear, the value of hair/makeover kits, etc) and lose access to the elite spec for that class, you pay extra, or have to grind gold to use something you already paid for.

On top of that is the feeling by many that they’re not getting value for money from the expac, highlighting the loss of the slot.

Poor marketing.

Everyone needs to stop arguing already and making a million posts flaming each other. It’s very very simple.

If you want it, you will buy it, enjoy it, and play it.

If you don’t want it, just don’t get it. simple as that no need to make a flame war. No one’s forcing you to get it.

Did I miss anything? Because this mess on the forms has got to stop

Yeah, the expansion is creating a virtual paywall between HoT/base game, so people kinda feel under pressure to get it. Part of the reason for the uproar.

It’s ironic, because the ‘get the base game free!’ deal was supposed to make sure that didn’t happen.

It’s my belief that they thought all vets would go for the $100 package, since it’s the only one really offering value for money. But wow, that would mean they thought $100 was a reasonable asking price for an expac.

No it wouldn’t. If they thought that they’d charge $100 for just the expansion.

The Ultimate edition is basically buying in bulk. You get the expansion and the random extras from the Deluxe edition and the gems, and get them at a reduced price for buying them together.

If I go to the supermarket intending to get a jar of pasta sauce for £2 and come home with 3 because it was on a buy 2 get 1 free deal it doesn’t mean I would actually have been willing to spend £4 on one jar. It means I know that over time I’d have bought 3 anyway, and since I can get it cheaper by buying them together (and can afford the higher price) I went for that option.

Likewise the people who will buy the Ultimate edition are most likely to be people who buy gems regularly. If, sooner or later, you’d spend £42.50 on 4,000 gems anyway you’re better off getting that package because then you essentially get the Deluxe edition for £37.50.

(This is assuming of course that you a) want the expansion and b) can afford to spend £80 all in one go.)

I agree with that, but I also feel that it’s the only value for money deal for vets. After all, they’ve got a trackrecord of buying gems.

edit: To clarify, I didn’t quite mean that the price of the Expac is $100, poorly worded by me. More that that tier was specifically targetted at vets in part by making the lowest tier so unappealing.

And what about the vets that dont need a character slot but still want to be compensated aint 800 gems better so you can buy what you want.

Well your not entitled to anything. That is what’s confusing me so much. You were able to play an amazing game with no subscription fee for almost 3 years. Anet doesn’t owe us anything at all.

He’s entitled as a customer to decide whether he feels a product is value for money. He doesn’t think so.

The previous game we paid for doesn’t factor in that decision, he paid for those three years at the price that Anet set.

And Anet doesn’t owe us anything, but if they don’t keep their customers happy they lose money. That directly threatens the health of the game. If you feel strongly about the game then you should want them to feel they are getting value for money. They paid for the last three years with gemstore purchases as much as you did, after all.

If you do it is because you are thinking of yourself rather what is best for the game.

Of course a customer is going to go what’s best for themselves. That’s how financial transactions work.

Companies also think about what’s best for themselves. And what’s best for a company is to keep it’s customers happy.

Especially one depending on a goodwill gemstore.

PS: You’re potentially driving players away with your antagonistic arguments. Paying players. So if you’re all about doing what’s ‘best for the game’ I’d dial it back a bit.

Not kidding myself though.

Veteran entitlement mentality.

Why exactly do some of the veteran players think ANet owes you anything? I see a lot of vet players understand that nothing is owed to them, but the vocal majority of vets here on the forums think something is owed to them.

The expansion is $50 bucks, end of story. If you dont already have GW2 and you buy HoT you get it for free. Its so that it brings in more players.

Veteran players have already gotten their fair share of free stuff, living story which if these new players want to experience they have to pay for, free level 20 boosts for being active during the anniversaries, free skins, free level 80’s if you didnt waste your tomes, and who knows what else was given out.

So what exactly are you guys complaining about? Its just like these spoiled kids that didnt get the car they wanted, or the 64gb iphone and rage at their parents. Its stupid and I hope ANet sticks to their guns.

The ONLY people that should be kittened off are the people who bought the core game recently and now have to dish out another 50 for the expansion in turn making the expansion more expensive. Give them a free skin, gems or something. Everyone else has gotten their monies worth from the game.

If you think you are owed something because you have been playing for 3 years and new players get the core game for free to increase the size of the community that is the exact definition of entitlement.

If you are still asking what people are complaining about you haven’t been paying attention.

And please stay away from calling people that have supported this game for years entitled. It’s wrong and polarising. We paid for previous content, often far beyond that.

Calling people out for feeling that they’re not getting value for money is not on.

I know WE have, im a veteran playing since you havent read my post even though you linked it. The issue post isnt about not getting your value out of HoT, its thinking your owed something just because you have been playing for 3 years which a lot of people here on the forums think. I have been playing for 3 years I should get x number of gems or y number of character slots.

At the end of the say HoT is and unless ANet changes it, will be $50. If people dont think that the content in HoT isnt going to be worth it thats valid, dont buy it. But if a character slot or something is the only reason why you arent buying it, then the content isnt the reason, you want something for nothing.

Maybe you could take a less binary approach, and realise that you’re slapping an ‘entitled’ tag on a lot of people that want more value. Those asking for say, a character slot don’t say so because they want something for free, but because they feel it eould give the base package value for money. Judging by your previous posts the distinction will fly over your head though, and you’ll continue to belittle people that disagree with you.
