Canthan is not Asian.

They get to take some artistic liberties.

Actually Canthan is very North-East Asian design influenced, not complete Asian influenced, because Asia would include Malayan, Philippines, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Thai culture influences.

But we do not see that in Canthan designs.

Influenced yes but not in fact Asian.

This being a fantasy world and all Anet does get to set the rules of how their own cultures are defined.

I just wanted to say how awesome this has been.

I want to be fair when I complain about things to also praise Anet when they get something right. This update has been awesome. It really felt like the game hit its stride with this one and I just wanted to say great job guys and gals. The lore that has been reintroduced is awesome. I don’t want spoil anything for folks taking their time through it but it is really good.

Ok enough of that. Time to get back to the awesome new map and see what all the NPCs have to say.

Anet with all the work that needs to be done around LA why would you steal this poor mans tools and make him air hammer, The poor guy just stands there pretending to chip away at the rock day in and day out. I mean I think this guy is a trooper and has an amazing work ethic. Please give him a chance to show that he can work safely with a pickaxe … or at least give the poor fellow a different job.

After LA was destroyed this poor fellow lost his mind. He pretends he’s still at work everyday just slowly wasting away.

Instant level 80 gem item?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Prophet.6257

Prophet.6257

I think sPvP is the best way to learn how to play your class.
Anyway, it’s very fast to be lvl 80.

This. I got my last two chars to 80 in <30h each, and PvP is a good spot to figure out what to do.

How? I just levelled my second character and it took me about 56 hours plus an instant level 20 scroll.

Level 20 Scroll .. craft 2-3 professions to 400 .. Birthday booster + Killstreak Booster and
grind yellow mobs.

This is the most efficient way to level for sure.

However, I think it also makes the case for why the instant level 80 item should be introduced. People do this because they “have to” do it before they “can have fun”.

With that said I really doubt they will ever introduce one. Leveling is too much of a gold/time sink for it to be easily skipped but who knows. Maybe they charge an equivalent amount of gold/gems for it to be worth it. Lets hope so.

B.

Kind of.

I just like to explore and do events/missions/quest. I end up doing other things as I go but finding new things is what I love the most. To a lesser extent I will farm and do raids in other games. Not so much here but if/when raids and GvG is available I’ll definitely be doing those with my guild.

Almost forgot. I LOVE non combat things. Crafting, mini games, fishing, etc. All that kind of stuff is really cool imo.

Since a Legendary is suppose to be the pinnacle of aesthetic achievements in the the game I’d like to see something big for getting them all.

Maybe a free Series 2 Legendary, a colored name tag, and 1000 gems.

or

The player’s choice of Infinite Total Makeover Kit, Infinite Black Lion Access, or Infinite Bank Access.

Seems like it should be epic in nature not matter what it is.

Maybe if expansions are released and the game world grows rapidly enough to garner some lasting hype (meaning the content lives up to or near expectations) I think the game could see a large influx of new lasting players.

I appreciate the value of constructive feedback but the online GW2 community just seems so ungrateful and unappreciative Just think of the negative image you are portraying for new/potential players. I think more people should know how great this game really is.

If I was Anet and I read all the crap people complain about I would find it a little disheartening. So I’m posting for the first and only time to say the following:

Anet, I love this game and I think you guys have done a fantastic job. Thank you for all your hard work! Dont forget there are people that really appreciate this game and work thats gone in to it.

New & Potential players, come and give this game a shot and decide for yourself if you like it Don’t get caught up in the negativity of some people . The complainers are the loudest voices but there is a great community in this game if you give it a try.

The leveling is definitely different now.

It takes longer to get to some of the milestones along the way to 80 but new folks seem to like it. As far as end game stuff goes for now the journey is the “end game”. I hear they are going to add raids and a few other things eventually so getting up to 80 now would be a good idea if so.

As far as your play style is concerned maybe try a staff ele. You can change between that and double dagger for some heavy damage output. Although staff can do pretty well in that department now too. Since you can change your attributes for free now it will let you go between builds pretty easily. Just keep some alternate gear on hand.

People pay $40 for a console game, then consider it descent if they get 40 hours of gameplay out of it.

People pay $40 for Guild Wars 2, and after spending thousands of hours in the game, they complain about lack of content.

I don’t even.

Yes, more content would be nice. Yes, not removing content would be nice. Yes, other MMOs love to recolor older content, change some numbers and pretend it’s new content. No, Guild Wars 2 doesn’t need any of that.

Players ask for a new continent, players get a new continent, players complain about having to explore a new continent. Let’s take this moderately, shall we?

Oh geeze….

I’d gladly pay $60 for more content out of GW2. What people complain about is having to “experience” the same old content over and over and over and over again. People asking for an expansion do so because they want the game to grow (races, weapons, new content, new maps, etc) and are more than happy to pay for it.

Take it moderately? No. I don’t know about you but I’ve enjoyed this game enough to know I want a LOT more content.

Restrict forum access to active accounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Prophet.6257

Prophet.6257

After all the critique which quite often involves people that have outright claimed that they haven’t played for months or even have the game installed I was thinking about the question in the title.

Would it be possible to only allow active accounts (such as having been logged on the last x days/week) to write on the forums? Everyone would still be able to read of course, but I have a feeling it might create a better environment for everyone here if you actually had to actively play the game in order to join in on the discussions.

As seen with the NPE change there were massive amounts of hatred posted, quite much of it from people that didn’t even try it before (either due to not wanting to start over or due to not actually playing anymore).

Any thoughts about this?

(Oh I know people will hate this thread, if only on principle because I created it, but thought it was worth a shot to see what people thought about it.)

I would like to see an “active player” icon on the side of each persons name.

Maybe add a sunshine pumper or nega-fan icon as well.

Currently I am making 1000G purely to give away. I need ideas as to how this money can be distributed. I am currently thinking of splitting it up to 100g so there are 10 winners, not just 1 and I was thinking of listing 10 different themes each week or so on the forums and from there, with 3 judges choose the winners. For example, fire theme: players will post pictures of their character and the person that looks the most fiery wins. Has anyone got any better way or suggestions as to how I should distribute the1000G? Maybe giving the 1000g all at once is the best option?

To get the largest audience I would suggest teaming up with Matt Visual, Wooden Potatoes, Auroa Peachy, and Richie Procopio for some kind of contest.

Maybe do it from now Halloween to Wintersday. Maybe a Halloween costume contest for 5 winners and something else for Wintersday.

I’m not sure this is accurate. If I remember right the earlier version of the game actually had “books” in them to carry some lore. They were removed but I don’t think Anet ever said why let alone that is was because the game couldn’t “handle long text”.

One would think text would be the easiest thing to actually put in a game.

Tyria’s Point of No Return

A Living World
The return of Living World Season 2 is rapidly approaching. When the season resumes on November 4, we’ll see the story pick up from the cliffhanger that left one of the world’s leaders fighting for survival, and the races of Tyria preparing for war against the Elder Dragon Mordremoth.
For Tyrians, the awakening of each of the previous elder dragons led to catastrophic world events: earthquakes, tidal waves, and the raising of a long sunken continent are just some examples of the destruction left in their wake. These have seared their marks into the face of Tyria.
Now another elder dragon stirs deep in the heart of the jungle. The world’s leaders have agreed to turn their attention to this new threat and attempt to destroy it before it can wreak the havoc they’ve seen other elder dragons sow. As season 2 returns, we turn our eyes towards Mordremoth as our next target. We also ponder the meaning of the vision given by the Pale Tree and the role that legends of Tyria’s past may play in a story that is yet to unfold.

Holiday Festivals
As we’ve done in the past, there will be festival releases interweaved into this coming Living World season. Let’s take a quick look at our festival calendar for the remainder of 2014.
This coming Tuesday, October 21, the Mad Realm returns with our annual Halloween release. On December 16, we’ll release our usual holiday-themed festivities with Wintersday. Both of these releases will feature the same content as last year but with refreshed rewards, giving you fun new festival-themed items to earn.

Into the Jungle
The road to war is paved by points of no return. Tyria has already decided to take the battle to Mordremoth. As we go on this journey we’ll learn dark secrets of Tyria’s past, venture into stories with roots deep in the very heart of Guild Wars lore, and visit places that have only been rumored to exist.
Season 2?s final episode will feature an unforgettable end for all of you who go on this journey with us. So make sure to jump in and join the ride starting on November 4.

We’ll see you in game!

No thanks. Crafting is done, legendaries are for the birds, there’s literally nothing else to do that intrest me.

So why do I keep coming back? Why are so many players who have done literally everything, keep playing? Why are you still playing? What is this Guild Wars attraction that won’t let go even when there’s nothing left?

Point of this post is, I can’t figure out why I’m still spending hours playing this game.
I don’t do anything.

Hope.

I have moved GW2 to my 3rd or 4th option at this point but I still check in, in hopes that the game adds an expansion.

The only reason I can see why they wouldn’t is because:
1.) They don’t want criticism (b/c the iteration process changes the ideas so much)
2.) They don’t have long term goals.
3.) They know their goals are going to be unpopular or insufficient.

No Expansion (in my opinion)

Prophet.6257

i think there will be no expansion for guild wars 2.

the living story is a good platform to deliver expansion content.

You don’t find it too slow?

I think it CAN be a good platform but I am not sure anet has/can figured it how to make it work. Also, there’s alot of problems one of the biggest ones I think is;

How does anet monetize on this without the community feeling nicked and dimed at every turn with the living story?

I’d like to know the thoughts of anyone who has opinion about this also.

yes, at the moment, i feel that it is slow.
however, i do not mind that.
because, it allows me to spend time on other games other than guild wars 2
.

regarding monetizing, i think they are doing well with the constant update of gem store skins.

This is a problem.

If GW2 wants to be a primary game and play with the big boys they need to get people to go to them first and have their name on the top of the list.

Black Lion Chests count as gambling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Prophet.6257

Prophet.6257

Gambling is serious business , it could cause addiction, you could lose a fortune etc. It is illegal in many country for anyone who isn’t 18 year old yet. Now, the law’s definiton of gambling in my country is: Every game counts as gambling, where the player in exchange of money or any valuable possessions, under certain circumstances he has a chance to win money, or other valuable prizes. Winning or losing depends solely or predominantly on luck.
Now we all know in the black lion chests you could win items of different value, and with the gem/gold conversion we can even tell how much does an item worth in real money, also it depends purely on luck what you win. Also black lion keys main source is the gem store, you can buy them with gold , but you also can buy them with real money .
I’m not in law school, therefore I don’t really know what fall under the category of gambling and I hope someone here knows. But for me the keys feels like they are gambling and at least should be restricted to 18+.

I think by the strictest definition any RNG would be considered gambling. Legally though I don’t think it would be. I’m pretty sure it has to involve actual currency.

Think of arcades and those tickets and crappy plastic toys.

The suggestion is a generic lost-companion-animal statue, in an out of the way place (at least my contribution is to make it out of the way).

I would recommend against an inscription that subscribes to any particular faith, however. The statue itself would be enough, if it comprised a small grouping of animals using GW2 existing models such as drakehounds, cats, and birds (ravens?). Those who need it would know what it signifies and it would be more timeless without a particular plaque.

They could do a GW2 based inscription, that would be nifty. Based on the beliefs of the area the statue was in. They’ve done similar with some of the headstones and monuments already in the game, so there is precedent.

I’ll be mighty annoyed if anything is done in-game for the dog, and so will a lot of people. Let’s take the personal aspect away from this game, it’s a business.

I see where you are coming from but part of what makes MMOs so special are the personal touches. Little things like this add some sort of depth to the game and makes for a more interesting world. I know GW2 has a lot to do and improvements to make but I think a project like this would take up a reasonable small amount of development time for the benefit and good will it would generate in the community and game.

So far i’m not seeing many people that would be annoyed if this was done.

Is it verbal abuse for somebody to tell another that they shall block you because of what language they speak?

No.

Imagine how many people blocked them without even saying so in chat.

Besides…what u suggesting is creepy.

How is it creepy? Video games do things like this all the time. Guess you hate the Sanctum of Rall server too?

Chris has been pretty cool to the community especially in the CDIs.
