Depends on the mob. World bosses tend to use a telegraph while your average enemy will just require you to notice their movements. Now that can get a little difficult with the particle effects so watch as well as you can.

Its a fact that many people say they want Kodans to be playable. However I have to ask – how exactly would you make them customizable from one character to the next? They’re all the same….

The Charr and Tengue in GW1 were pretty much the same, respectively.

ANet could work around any lore or character model issue.

Anet not at E3?

Prophet.6257

I really wish they were going. I’ve always enjoyed E3 even though a lot of it is just BS. Still hype is always fun and I think ANet would be able to make a pretty big splash at it.

(and maybe I was secretly hoping they would surprise everyone and announce an expansion their)

Oh well though. Guess I’ll just watch the console people lie to me about how great their system is.

Braham +Rox Relationship?

in Lore

Posted by: Prophet.6257

Prophet.6257

Actually, it could be funny to run into such circumstances that Rox and Braham get alone and semi-naked (and injured), and they are asking themselves if their brotherhood of arms could lead to some mild hetero- or homeo-sexual opportunistic relationship. Imagine Rox palpating Braham’s twigh and taunting him to be more like a meaty and tasty bull than a real and appealing warrior, but this could be kind of an interesting experience, and Braham answering that he wouldn’t figure to hug a woolly dolyak skin, even if he could spend the night stroking and patting such a soft fur. Both would like to share something more beyond friendship, but would hold on to some tender gestures and soft half-ironical words, bewildered by such cultural and racial differences, and yet similarities.
I believe the writers may have an opportunity for some real and subtle work here.

O_O

You… uh… really thought this out.

(Seriously though, I think having a Braham + Rox relationship in game would be kind of cool.)

I like to see criticism which is well-thought, presented with some reasons why points are made and questions asked.

I like to see criticism which gives a modicum of thought about other people.

I like seeing criticism where there is a conscious effort to remember this is a game where some manner of time commitment is expected, or some charge pending to sidestep the time commitment.

I don’t like seeing criticism which hinges on what an individual wants in the game, to benefit them and only them.

I don’t like seeing criticism posts which are nothing other than “the game is dying because X”.

I don’t like seeing criticism posts which decide they need to speak for me (i.e. “everyone” “all players” “nobody likes this”, et cetera).

I highly suggest criticism in the future comes better thought out about what the issue is, and then follows into an idea which might fix it, rather than just demand it be fixed.

Also, I highly dislike asura. Except as catapult ammunition.

I do agree more thought out post would be nice, but we see the opposite so often I think we may just have to accept that as a larger percentage of our player base. In turn that part of the community should be able to express themselves as best they can. I’m sure ANet goes through the threads and makes notes on patterns, interest, clicks, etc. In the end, the forums aren’t for us as a community. They are for ANet to gather our feedback. That is a small but very important distinction.

We got some sunshine pumpers posting “Thanks Anet gimme a big kiss” threads right beside the negafans “This game is dying and I hate you” threads. Sure more thoughtful post would be great but a large enough number of the players on this forum make up a more (let’s say) volatile community. That’s something ANet has to and can deal with.

Why?

Ok, so again. ANet wants feedback, they want you to share your ideas and suggestions, they want YOUR input.

SHARE SHARE SHARE!

Complain, critique, request, be open and honest. This game won’t get better and grow unless the community is willing to be a part of the developmental process. Embrace it.

A D&D wish for the non-end game people

in Living World

Posted by: Prophet.6257

Prophet.6257

When I first heard the name “Living World” I was hoping that meant we would be doing something with the rest of the world. Something centered on the adventures of the side characters. Those folks we meet here or there or just pass on the street have to have stories to tell too, right?

Sadly, Living World turned out to be just another save the world story line. And this one is heavily driven by achievement grinding. However, I get why you built it this way.

It occurred to me that most MMO’s depend almost completely on the end game people. They are the kind of people who like to do the same thing over and over. They stay the longest so its likely they pay the most. Your tight development schedule probably doesn’t give you much time to do anything else so why not let us do it.

Is there any doubt that Dungeons & Dragons is the dominate influence for RPGs? The two biggest aspects of D&D is the player made content your buddy makes and the rule books.

In the video games arena those D&D rule books are the printed version of an editor and your buddies adventure is a mod.

Suggestion: Give us an editor. Let us tell the short stories while you stick to the save the world adventures.

- Your mechanic for placing mini instances anywhere is the perfect delivery mechanic
– Most of us will not want to see this ruined. This all but guarantees we will turn on those that try to ruin it.
– It would be good if your moderators had to explain why a mod was stopped. This will help us know what to fix and give us a good idea on how they interpret the rules.

So, what do you think?

Great Idea!

However, I’m not sure Anet has what it takes to pull this off. Look at how they struggled through LSS1. At times it looked like they had no cohesion and the community as a whole had trouble following. Your idea is great but I think they may need to hire some new writers to make it work properly.

Still, if it’s possible I’m all for it. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE some depth in this game. Making me care about NPCs is definitely a way to do that.

Why?

A question about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Prophet.6257

Prophet.6257

All the last patch/update of gw2 have made the game harder. Trains are gone (queensdale and old frostforge) and dungeons are getting harder (some of the old tactics dont work anymore). People are quitting the game because best itens are almost impossible to buy and the best ways to make gold are being destroyed by gw2. From my usual group of friends to create a party (about 13 people), only 3 of them keep playing everyday since the last update. Im getting frustraded too and i just dont get what is the point of this.

thanks.

Guild Wars 2 is still a game trying to define itself and it’s going to be like that for some time. One of their design philosophies is based on the idea that they are not afraid to change things. That is something a lot on games are unwilling to do so in a way it is kind of nice having Anet do it. However, it does cause a lot of difficulty for the community and economy. I’ve seen several players leave the game, come back, and leave again because their is so little depth.

But no, Anet is not trying to lose players. I think they do have a long way to go before the community is stable though. Remember the game doesn’t have a sub fee. So people can come and go and come back again. That seems to be the one consistent thing about GW2.

Just 1 thing I’m really fussed about, and that’s

1. Don’t be afraid to kill off some main characters."

Not so easy to do, unless those characters are introduced through more dynamic means. Which means, sadly, Trehearne’s not gonna get eaten by a dragon.
…But Brahm might!

Because of production cost/involvement of reviving Logan/Rytlock/et al, first-gen main character participation in upcoming story is very unlikely. It’s much easier to weave a continuing narrative with characters that aren’t embedded in the rest of the game.

It’d be even better if we got some more cutscene art, too. Like one of Brahm shoving Taimi out of harm’s way as a gigantic dragon maw bears down on them. …Can we sense I don’t like Brahm and want him eaten by an elder dragon? =P

Ah come one… he’s not so bad.

Plus he’s the ONLY male character in the biconics. The ladies in my guilds strongly disapprove.

I’m sad actually. Matt sounds like he is quitting for Wowstar, and I suspect WP is in denial about his enjoyment of GW2 at this point. He got himself stat-capped and is going so far out of his way to find things to do it’s ridiculous.

Well, Matt is all about playing multiple games so I suspect he will just divide his time for a bit. I think WP is pretty deeply invested in Tyria so he will probably be a round for awhile. Plus the vast majority of their Youtube fan base surround GW2.

All of that may change with Season 2 though. If Anet starts it off right and just blows us away I’m sure the excitement will carry them far. However, if Anet just lays another egg like Season 1… well Wildstar does have housing and mounts.

Technically yes it is, but don’t expect too much cross over. The GW2 team seems to want to focus on their own stories and give little acknowledgment to the original game (besides some lip service and occasional references)

Personally, it doesn’t even feel like the same planet to me.

Unfortunately I’m coming to terms with the fact that it might be true.
I hope season 2 gives us more ties to GW1 lore. I hope we see more returning elements ( especially armor and weapons).

Here’s hoping.

There are SO many ties to GW1 in GW2 already. I can see many people did not read the novels put out in the interim between the games, as that covers much of the lore and how GW2 got the way it is.

I have also found so many little clues around GW2, such as the clues about Cantha in the Priory office in Destiny’s Reach, etc. They are there if you want to look and take the time to read them all.

I have read all three and every piece of content they have released since. I also understand it is 250 years later so things are bound to be different. But having played these games since 2006 I can say with some sort of understanding that GW2 is not making real substantial attempts to tie itself to GW1’s lore. Sure they have minor references hidden in book carts and in basements of the libraries. But to use a poor cooking analogy, I feel like GW2 has some GW1 flavoring sprinkled on it instead of displaying it as a major portion.

I think this is a missed opportunity. This game lacks depths as it is. That’s going to happen to any new MMO. However, the Guild Wars franchise has real depth and a wonderfully full universe and GW2 could tap into that a lot more than they currently are.

How to Implement Dueling in GW2

in PvP

Posted by: Prophet.6257

Prophet.6257

I like this idea lot. I’m not even a big PvP fan but this is the kind of feature that should be in GW2.

I would only change one thing. Have dueling in specific areas of these maps. Maybe arenas like we have in the Queens Gauntlet. I could just see the Centaurs “Death Pit”, The Charr’s “Steel Cage”, The Sylvari’s Tangle Thorn Arena". These would be cool places to see and would give predefined locations for duels keeping the constant, “Hey wanna fight about it?” peeps from sending request everywhere.

Plus I love the spectator aspect of it all. Humm… maybe add a little wager system to each fight as well. Could be a Black Lion Bet NPC near by.

Honestly, just get the waypoints(that is if you even intend to do guild mission on those char), you really dont’ need “the other stuff”.

I don’t think your example is the same.

I’m not even saying do it for free if you read my posts. I’d be fine with paying either Gems or Gold to get it. Or heck maybe add some content in the game that unlocks that sort of thing. Running some kind of quest line to get special account access to the waypoints would be really cool.

The first time I entered each zone was amazing. Doing map completion on that first character was such a thrill and made for some really good game play. However, I am now on my 5th level 80 and as I go through Bloodtide Coast again I’m really starting to yawn.

I don’t want to lose the Gift of Exploration for 100% completion but how about you sell us an option to unlock the map for each character. Not everything completed on each character but maybe no fog of war (or whatever the painted effect if before exploration). Maybe charge some gold to unlock waypoints account wide?

It was fun the 1st time.
It was ok the 2nd time.
It was a chore the 3rd time.
It was annoying the 4th time.
And it is soul crushing the 5th time.

To be brief, yes.

To be a bit more detailed, I am trying to stay passionate about this game. I think Anet is on to something grand but they honestly seems a bit overwhelmed. Like they know how big GW2 could be but they aren’t clutch enough to handle the pressure of it all. They have good concepts and the best intentions but the always seem to swing the pendulum a bit too far.

In time they will probably get their footing and GW2 will even out with consistency and portioned hype. It is a solid game but to be great is going to require different people than they have now.

Nerfed every farming idea without fail.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Prophet.6257

Prophet.6257

All these threads come up again and again and they have the same answer.

After the champion purses were introduced the players noticed that the rewards were too generous (when using zergs on group content) and made trains to cash in, immediately, in large numbers. The designers noticed it too and made fixes many months later. So everyone could see that it was too generous, and that is why it was popular, and it has inevitably been fixed. End of story.

If you’ve got complaints about farming then consider this. Farmers gravitate to the points in the game where the rewards for challenge/time are most generous. These are always going to be the points in the game that are out of balance and the most likely to get rebalanced later.

You act as if I didn’t know this already. I am aware of why farming gets nerfed.
That is NOT the issue.

The issue is the fact that farming continues to get nerfed time after time while people that flip items on the trading system are left unscathed. Their “farming method” has always been the same and has never been nerfed and yet it produces a MUCH HIGHER amount of gold into the game than “true farming” ever could. Yes trading uses gold that is already in the game but with the listing fees, what does it matter?

*I simply don’t understand why players that farm via combat are reduced to ashes while players that farm via trading get to shine bright. *

The reason is pretty simple. Farming in the traditional sense produces new goods and currency into the game while playing the BLTP simple has goods and currency change hands. The former causes inflation the latter does not.

Nerfed every farming idea without fail.

Their are other farms.

I won’t say where but if you are able to find them you can make some good gold. And when you do, do NOT tell your friends, do NOT tell your guild mates, and do NOT post it on the forums. Keep it to yourself, profit off it, and let the rest of the community suffer. Welcome to the dark side… err sorry. Wrong game.

Seriously though. Their are some farms still around. Explore a little and keep an eye out. I think you will be surprised what you can do if you are a little creative.

Oh yes…. thank you SOOOOOOOO much. The Queens Pavilion and WvW aren’t giant zerg fest at all. Oh how amazing and innovative you are. Praise be to you…

Thank you for taking out champ farms too. No one in the entire game wanted to do them ever. And clearly every person who ever participated in the champ train was a kitten, racist, QQ, zombie that doesn’t even like this game.

Sarcasm aside, I do applaud them for TRYING something different despite the above attitude of QQ. I do agree the rewards are a bit lacking and am afraid that once most everyone gets the AP available in the Pavilion will fail miserably because of that. EDIT: If what is stated above (about better rewards) is true, I could be wrong and some decent organized groups going for GOLD might be worth pursuing.

BTW, they took the champ farms out of the starter areas (a VERY good idea, IMO). If you want to Champ farm there are dozens of other zones available for this. It can’t be hard to figure out a decent rotation for nearly every zone in the game if you are willing to do more than WP > hit #1 > WP > wait…..wait…. > hit # 1 > repeat.

It doesn’t matter now anyway. I got other farms I do and don’t plan on posting them on these forums. Anet has proven they want to limit the amount of gold in the game. Fine. Inflation sucks but so does being broke.

@Dakota… well tnx for reading what I had to say:
me in another post in this thread:
BTW I just returned from Crown Pavilion and I had a blast, we ended up spending over 2 hours playing the blitz boss event, and we got 3 gold chest and 3 silver chest. Event is actually quite “easy” if you spread out and communicate with others.
Here is the tip for those who are interested. Spread in 6 groups consisting of 10-12 people. DO NOT KILL them untill all bosses are about 10% – 15% down. When all bosses are at the same health go for the kill. This will help you avoid the additional abilities that are activated when you kill a boss. With this tactic we assured those 3 gold chests w/o failing. Hope it helps

@cainejw.7142 Tnx for not reading my posts in this thread, because if you did you would see that I want to play with the big group of people but no with zerg group of people. Anything above 40 people is a zerg imho. And no where did I say I want to prove my worth thru a game, I could care less about it, hence why I don’t care about rewards in game. I just want to have fun.

Honestly people, try to read my posts, I’ve been really respectfull in my posts, and I read eveyrones post’s, but most of your comments are just attacking my opinion without even trying to understand it.

2 hours and you got 6 chest total….

I’m sorry that just seems like a waste of time as far as loot is concerned. However, if you had fun more power to ya’. I’m ok recognizing that piece of content is just not for me.

Cheers for anti-zerg philosophy

Listen, I love these pics and all but let’s face facts. Anet doesn’t give two farts about you, your characters, or your opinion.

Welcome to the club.

(PS I will miss seeing these combinations in game. They were always very special to see and made me excited to see them about town.)

I forgot to mention, make sure you stay through the dialog in LA story. You get a bunch from that the first time through.

Aspect Arena worked for me. Got my 400 I needed over the last hour or so. Shouldn’t be too much trouble. Especially if you find a good group.
