I wish Anet would release total active account numbers too. I know it will be arbitrary (how often they log in, how long are they logged in, are they spending money, etc) but it would be nice to be able to compare it to others MMOs with a bit more accuracy.
Still, I’m excited to see what this means for the future of the game. Definitely a huge mile marker for the company and community.
Although total sales are not necessarily indicative to active players the numbers are still looking pretty good.
7.3 million. Not bad at all.
Does this makes GW2 the 2nd biggest western MMO?
http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/07/10/guild-wars-2-selling-well-in-china/
All of these are beautiful.
This is one of the best maps in GW2. I hope they keep expanding it and give HUGE raises to whomever is responsible for the design and implementation.
Very well done Anet and great povs everyone.
We could always kill one of our Destiny’s Edge 2.0, unfortunately, it would probably be one of the humans.
My character is Sylvari, so that completes the group perfectly.
No, very fortunately. Hopefully it’s Kasmeer.
Marjory is a very interesting character but Kasmeer seems so shallow and boring. Maybe she dies in the jungle or waste if we’re lucky.
TheSwede explained it well – DPS is just one part. If all you do is DPS, then you end up dying in higher level areas faster.
Actually DPS is pretty much all that matters other than maybe high level fractals. CC doesn’t matter because defiant makes it mostly useless against champs and bosses. And the most desirable support is that which increases group DPS like fury, might, vulnerability, spotter, frost spirit, etc. Condition removal and buffs like protection and aegis are only minor factors for most PvE content. The only other major factor is skill – basically positioning and dodging. DPS and skill at positioning/dodging are well over 90% of PvE.
Agree 100%
OP, if you don’t want to waste time any gold on builds that are currently inferior go DPS heavy, learn combat movements, and dodging. You will tag more mobs, kill enemies faster and be a better help in a large group for now.
Like I said before, all of that may change (and I REALLY hope it does) but for now it is what it is.
I know what GW2 is going for (the soft trinity) but come on guys. Direct damage output is so OP right now that it is by far the “way” to play. What else are you going to do? You can try to tank it up, use conditions, or stealth, but the opprotunity cost is so great you would be better off just doing the dps.
In boss fights it’s a little different but right now Anet have buffed DPS so much it is the way you should be playing in PvE. Hopefully not for long though. Especially with the new runes they are introducing.
but think about all the kitten they said they would put in the game. Like Guild Halls, New Weapons, New PvP gamemodes. I mean they said they would add all that earlier this year I think they’re waiting for the expansion TBH.
Don’t get me wrong. I hope you’re right. I would just LOVE an expansion for this game. I just don’t think we have enough to go on right now to assume when/if it will hit.
Personally, I though the way the Biconics were written in Season 1 was very weak. They seemed one dimensional and very childish.
However, season 2 seems to be on the right foot. Taimi kind of stole the show I thought. Her interactions in Scarlet’s old house was very interesting. Marjory’s character seemed to have a bit of depth added with more talk of her mother and seeing her sister. I’m not a big fan of the “let’s make them lesbians just cause” feeling I got from Season 1. She seems more developed and maybe that just required some time.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing how these characters develop in Season 2. But yes. I would love to see new characters added. Specifically more diverse ones. Maybe a strong black male lead (Koss’ great x10? grandson or something) Maybe a Hero from one of the “lesser” races too, like a Hylek or Centaur.
Maybe even kill off one of the Biconics. If I got to choose I would pick Kasmeer in some tragic encounter with Mordremoth or one of his’ champs.

I have a level 80 Elementalist, Engineer, Warrior, and Guardian. I have mid levels of all the rest. Most of my experience is in PvE so take it for what it’s worth.
Anyway, with GW2 it all comes down to DPS (for now). So it all depends on how you like to deal that damage. My Warrior does very well in PvE with Greatsword and duel axes. My Elementalist does well with Staff or Double Dagger. My Guardian uses Greatsword and sword focus. While my Engineer is kind of the one I experiment with. I use a lot of kits and change up the sigils and runes a lot.
If your game play is a bit more stationary (which is hard if not impossible in GW2) or if you simply have difficulty dodging some attacks I think Warrior would be a good choice. It can rely heavy on melee. And with the new runes in Season 2 you can focus a little harder on a “tankier” build.
Ele and Guard can be VERY glassy. Tons of damage but one get caught with may direct hits. They can make for a very fluid combat experience.
Engi is a jack of all trades depending on you build. Medium armor, great range with the grenades, and potential to throw down turrets. Weapon are a bit limited though if you don’t like the kits.

Look at the bottom of the first page
I mean it from NcSoft so I don’t see how its not true what do you think.
Security Firms tend to deal in speculation a lot. So, although it’s not exactly confirmation it is their best guess at when one will release.
And always read the discalimer.

This got me super excited,
Look at the pictures, left is a sketch found in Scarlet’s Dry Top lab and right is a depiction of the realm of torment from guild wars 1.
The vines we see in Dry Top are also something that happens when the veil between the 2 worlds weakens.
Are you as excited as I am ?
You sir/madam are awesome.
So their seems to be some connection between the human gods and the dragons? Or is it just Abaddon (or maybe Kormir) ?

Where are polymocks?
Good question.
Although, I do wish we had new drops to work with. It seems a little weird to me we still have only the same weapon and armor skin drops we started with two years ago.
Not true. Several exotics have been added.
That’s correct. I forgot about the “boss skins” Those are kind of nice.
I was thinking more common drops though.
I ran solo for all of the content and thought it was pretty fun. It was nice to actually have a little bit of a challenge. With the boss fight as long as you dodge, keep moving, and have some sort of range yous should have been fine.
On the mining town I think its existence has something to do with the Sinister Triad. I’m pretty sure they do a lot of trade with them.
I’m still enjoying it. The new events are fun and the zone is beautiful. It is kind of small for what I expected but if they are going to add more as the season goes on that’s ok.
I hated just about all of season 1 and Scarlet, but I like how they are approaching the story this go around. Having Scarlet as just background noise is pretty nice and the development of the world around us is really neat. I do hope we get some less “Everything is blowing up! We’re all going to die!” updates but to kick it all off I thought it was well done.
Plus, I LOVE the Zephyrs so I’m glad they are playing such a prominent role.
Me too Valdur. I think it’s been a lot of fun for opening day.
So, how is it going so far. Has day one lived up to what you expected? Is it starting off the way it should?
OP,
I agree. This has been great so far. I elated they are hitting their stride with LSS2. If they keep this up it is going to be a fun ride.
I think your question should be, “What play styles should Anet reward with the most gold?”
Which ever it is will be the one a large number of people focus on. So, whatever kind of gameplay GW2 wants to encourage should be what they make the most financially rewarding.
Who “deserves” to be rich is irrelevant.
The only thing about season one that matters is this.
A Sylvair named Scarlet (who was a horrendously written and presented villain) disturbed magical ley lines that woke the elder jungle themed dragon Mordremoth.
Ehmm, why not:
- Dervish
- Paragon
- Ritualist
- Monk
I like it. I do wonder what armor classes they would get in GW2.
Paragon seems like the obvious Heavy. I guess the other would depend on their play style. It would be nice to see these GW1 favorites make a return though.
Buys Gems with cash and exchange them for gold.
Clarified.
Correct.
Everything should be account bound.Adding a market economy to a videogame is not only pointless but anti-fun.
Nothing should be account bound.
Having another option to gain items besides random drops is more fun than RNG.
I heavily disagree. What do you think is the reason for that bad RNG? It’s because the trading post is global. They had to decrease the droprate of those special skins because otherwise there would be a huge number of these in the trading post which would devalue them. People undercut constantly would make them a few silver instead of hundrets of gold.
The trading post is the reason for bad RNG. Look at Diablo III, after the auction house was taken out of the game loot has much better droprates and people enjoy getting that loot through killing mobs.
So I’m not saying: get rid of the TP. I’m saying that there should be exclusive skins that drop on an accountbound status. This way the droprate could go up considerably.
I don’t know. A LOT of the fun in getting those ultra rare drops is flipping them on the BLTP. However, I suppose if everything I wanted was accountbound and had a substantial increase in their drop rate it would be fine. That won’t help anything lower than the ultra rare though.
Buys Gems and exchange them for gold.
Dwarf
Tengu
Kodan
Skritt
… and an asuran sized charr.
OP,
I love this idea. To tie it in to lore maybe have him the descendant of Koss. That guy always seemed like such a bad kitten .
See Guy Hero from Cox and Crendor for reference and for some lulz.

there s barely nothing important showed off about S2 these days and only 1 day left til release.i believe there r 2 ways to explain why anet keep it a secret.1st come to my mind is there merely nothing great about S2 and they dont want us to know .and another reason maybe its too great so keep it a secret to surprise us.which 1 do u believe?
I choose to believe the best util they give me a reason to think otherwise.
Probably a bit naive on my part but I don’t want to just assume the worst on a game I’ve sent so much time in.

Maybe a good time to reintroduce that tribal armor we saw in PvP for awhile.
I like elementalist a lot.
Switching between the attunements feels very fluid and can be fun to learn.
(edited by Prophet.6257)
I don’t think any race would want to side with the Sylvair.
Sylvari Salad Alliance vs Tyria
sure.
My main was Luskan. My elementalist is a noble, which makes her Krytan, not Ascalonian, since the Ascalonian nobility was wiped out before they ever got to Kryta.
Nothing abou the OP makes any sense. Charr > Humans in every meaningful way. Kitten Ascalon and the Ascalonians.
-_-
bad kitty….

Technically, if you’re human in Tyria you are an alien.
O_O
…but I like your sentiment OP.
Maybe certain ones for doing world completion, PvP rank, gem store purchases, living story, special quest, etc.
Neat idea. After playing Ranger I thought it’d be neat if every class had things they could collect in the world to customize their character. Rangers collect pets, thieves collect, I don’t know, traps and thief guild guys, engineers collect new skins for gadgets, and so on.
I doubt it’ll ever happen, but it’d be neat. (I have a suspicion that anet is against implementing any idea proposed on the forum for some reason. Possibly “NIH” syndrome.)
You may be right. The game lacks several thing that other games have implemented without much trouble and fixed problems GW2 still suffers from.
Hopefully it’s not the case but it does feel that way.
Collecting things on every class sounds like fun. I really enjoyed that with my ranger. It would be nice to have that extra something with my other chars as well.
Elementalist: Charr
Engineer: Asura
Guardian: Norn
Mesmer: Quagan in a tutu
Necromancer: Human
Ranger: Sylvari
Thief: Skritt
Warrior: Tengu
Says you. I’d love to have them. It is the most common thing you see in game. It would be a way to define your character even more.
So I believe what you meant to say was that you don’t want them or wouldn’t obtain them if offered. Technically, we don’t “need” an aesthetic thing in a video game.
I suggest leveling new characters and do it slowly. Enjoy the process and don’t get into a grind to 80 mode. The game is best when it is taken in small steps. The new megaservers will give you plenty of people to complete group events with too.
Welcome back.
True.
One thing I noticed out of sorts was an NPC walkign around trying to sell something that no one was very comfortable buying. They said they “didn’t want to get mixed up with those people” or something like that.
Is that new or was it from last years as well?
wow…
What a giant pile of crap that would be.
I’m still sticking with the wait and see approach. I’ll blindly assume that is just a glaring over site on Anets part.
Maybe certain ones for doing world completion, PvP rank, gem store purchases, living story, special quest, etc.
With this needs the ability to turn down particle effects too. So people who love the effects get cooler ones and people who think their too much can tone them down on their client.
The removal of language specific servers (aka Megaserver) could maybe be called radical. At least if you play on the EU Server.
Agreed.
Especially since the way WvW is set up and all the “server pride” talk we got for nearly 2 years.
Edit: Forgot to mention the impact on the RP community.
OP,
Over time Anet has been slowly adding in the things the players wanted (and some they felt we needed). With Season 2 we are getting another thing that has been asked for, more zones. If all the sudden the characters are more complex and we get a deeper and more serious tone to the story then that would be another one (but that is pure speculation at this point).
To “save” GW2 the devs are going to have to add TONS of depth and expansion to the world.
Our biggest problem isn’t people wanting to change the games direction, it’s apathy.
Give Season 2 a chance to turn things around though. Don’t get hyped or expect too much but just wait and see if maybe this is the point GW2 rights the ship and becomes what it has the potential of being.
I hope for:
1.) New Zones
2.) New Weapon Types
3.) New Races
4.) New Dungeons
I expect:
1.) One New Zone
2.) Re playable Instances
3.) One New Dungeon.
4.) One New World Boss.
If the “do not post personal speculation…” bit is what confused you – go read the OP. The way they word everything sounds as if they somehow know what is going to be released. They aren’t offering them as suggestions or conjecture, they’re making statements – statements which are false/highly unlikely.
So don’t use personal speculation as fact. Got it. Don’t post things we aren’t 100% sure on as fact. Nothing.
1.) All of the dragons are now awake.
2.) If there are more they aren’t going to be introduced for years to come.
Please post source so you don’t break your own standard.

O_o
Hope so.
I will be VERY disappointed if not. Especially after the Teaser Video.
This looks awesome. New zones!!! YES YES YES !!!!
