Achievement Point Rewards Too Low?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’ve been playing since first beta and I’m currently sitting on 5575 points

It’s you. I’ve been playing for about 7/8 months and I’m close to 6.5k, and I’m not a big achievement hog and I’ve missed huge “achievement point fests” like the halloween one.

That said, Achievement point rewards are supposed to take a while to do. They’re fine as they are. They’re supposed to be landmarks, not dailies.

Like this its a simple and elegant way to put casuals and hardcore players on the same page and have them both take 30 days to craft a piece of kitten gear rather then have a situations where a hardcore player can get it done in 20 – 30 days and a casual need 6 months to craft the same thing.

Here’s the problem: That should never happen. Why should someone who has a lot of time to dedicate to the game be artificially crippled because someone else doesn’t?

Imagine you’re running a marathon, and you’re really good. Running is one thing you love, and fortunately you can do it all the time, so evidently, you’re really good. But because you’re better, the organization of the event fits you with lead shoes to “even it up” with those who aren’t as good.

It’s the polar opposite, but exactly just as bad, as most MMOs, where someone with more time to play is inherently better, regardless of their skill, because their gear and level will be so insanely overpowering. GW2 makes a very good job of avoiding this, with easy leveling and, at least until ascended gear comes around, basically no vertical progression. Unfortunately it’s falling a bit too much into the opposite trap, creating an inverse, but equally obnoxious problem.

If you want to do this PvP thing, then instead of forcing those that do not wish to PvP just not be on the list and those that do want to PvP should be the ones paying the small fee to be on the list.

People that do not wish to PvP should not be forced in any way to do so and they should not be forced to pay a fee to avoid what they do not wish in the first place.

If anyone wants to do this, they should have to sign up and give their own consent, not because someone decided to put them on the list to have some fun.

Actually this is a brilliant idea. Reminds me of Shadow play from Alastair Reynold’s Revelation Space universe. Bored of immortality? The challenges of life are just too easy for you? Hire a gunman to inject some thrill in your day!

You pay the fee, you get put on the board. Anyone who wants can pay a small amount (say 10% of your prize) to try, gets told in which map the target is (general location or map only, no specifics) and tries to take you down.

First to die loses. If the hunter dies, the “fee” goes to the hunted. If the target dies, the hunter gets his prize.

You can even have leaderboards for both most assassination attempts survived, and most targets assassinated.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how we turn a horrible suggestion into an awesome one.

Don’t be ignorant.

The issue has nothing to do with races and everything to do with the game camera.

The devs have already mentioned several times that they aren’t quite happy with the way the camera interacts with many of the jumping puzzles (and other places). This is because the way the actual game camera works had to be almost entirely redone very close to the game’s release – long after most maps, and jumping puzzles, were either done or well on their way. The side effect is that tall characters on cramped spaces got the shaft harder than Paris Hilton.

They also said that moving forward they’d consider the new camera specs…. Clearly something they utterly forgot during the Aetherblade jumping puzzle, but whatever.

At first I thought this was for WvW, which could be amusing. You could set a bounty to someone on one of the enemy servers, and if someone killed them you’d be notified (with an automatic screenshot included) and they’d receive their reward.

If this is for PvE, it’s incredibly kittening stupid. ANet purposely worked quite hard to remove any and all forms of griefing from the game, and you want to add a huge one? How about no. PvP happens in PvP. PvE is PvE. The game is pretty clear about this.

As someone that has 100% map completion, and has seen the entire map several dozen times by now, I can only think of 1 spot that you absolutely need help to get – The Temple of Balthazar Skill Point if the Temple is contested. You need someone to leash the vets away, because due to their numbers (and the fact that they’re vets) they tend to respawn and annoyingly interrupt you faster than you can channel. And even then it might be possible to solo, it’s just usually not worth it.

Everything else can be done solo with either fancy footwork or a little ingenuity.

What you’re experiencing is most likely just the result of you being new and, naturally, relatively unskilled at the game yet and becoming frustrated instead of looking for a different solution.

I only brought it up because for Warriors or Elementalists can gain their all of their (non-aquatic) skills in less than 2 minutes. It’s purely because the player is a lvl 20 vs lvl 1 mobs without a adjustment cap.
It would only be a bit longer on the outside in a level caped area where each mob takes more hits to die. My apologies for bringing up something inconsequential.

It’s a legitimate issue mind you. I’m guessing they just forgot to level cap the starting mission zones because, before now, there was no way to be there at any level higher than whatever you acquired in that zone alone.

I’m just saying don’t sweat it, it’s, indeed, not something of much consequence. Particularly when you remember that only “veterans” (i.e.: people with 6k achievement points) will even be able to make use of it at all. More of a small overlook that they should correct eventually, like a slightly out of place texture.

False.

Necro’s Locust Swarm does aoe damage enough to kill a pack of white critters.

So, necro with warhorn 5 autoattacking + idea incubation lab = epic win

Interesting, I could have sworn I tested it and Locust Swarm’s kills didn’t count towards Weapon Master.

Still the worse weapon master to level.

Pro tip: Don’t do scepter master with a mesmer then. Try a Guardian, Elementalist or Necro.

Try killing things with a shield if you think scepter is bad.

Warhorn. Ranger is the only class that does any damage with it, so the only class that can even complete that weapon master, and it’s one attack every 25 seconds.

Enjoy.

What is the most survivable profession?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

For PvE: Doesn’t matter. Anything in full berserker is survivable enough.

For PvP: Depends a lot.

If we’re talking about pure staying power, then either a Guardian or Ranger with full clerics. Possibly Guardian due to better condition removal, but it’s pretty close.

In sPvP, this is mostly what matters. In WvW, if we’re talking about roaming, a perma-stealth thief with more defensive gear is immortal unless they kitten up extremely hard. Won’t necessarily kill much, but can’t be killed, which means you can go around and take camps, kill dolyaks and such, unless they station someone everywhere.

Ruby Orb or Superior Rune of the Scholar

in Players Helping Players

ProxyDamage.9826

I swear this question is asked and answered every week…

Runes of Scholar will give you the absolute highest DPS while you’re over 90% health. However, if your health dips bellow those 90%, ruby orbs will win.

Given that both of these are generally used in DPS-oriented characters, characters that usually don’t have a lot of damage mitigation, and given how easy it is to just hit someone in this game, I’d say the crushing majority of the time you get more bang for your buck out of Ruby Orbs, unless your build is really oriented towards delivering most of its damage before the enemy can even do anything.

By handing out so many free badges, people can essentially, completely avoid one of these activities.

I can’t even begin to give half a kitten about this complaint. How about you play however you want, and let other people play how they want? If you wanna grind WvW for your legendary, go ahead. Feel free to delete the tokens and do it by hand (it’s not like it’s the hardest part of the legendary is it? You can farm 500 badges in a week at most). It’s like the people complaining some other guy read the spoilers. What do you care? Don’t read them. You can’t sell legendaries, so they’re not affecting you in any way.

If you are going to allow pve players to completely bypass w3, then you should offer w3 players the chance to bypass dungeon runs.

Yes. I’m sure the piles of gold, bonuses and free gems do not help WvW players in PvE at all.

Regarding future plans for Magic Find

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

I have very mixed feelings on this issue.

On the one hand, if you’ve had your MF stats for over a week or so of farming, they’ve probably already paid for themselves… Given that the probability is overwhelming that you didn’t just sit in a corner farming by yourself, the fact that you were present in events with other people with your mf gear makes you a leech. So, all in all, my sympathy in this case is pretty low by default.

On the other hand, change happens all the time, and everyone has to deal with it. What about the money/laurels/resources of any kind people invested in one set of armor or character before a balance patch removed the reason of their investment (because, for example, they were overpowered)? Most people don’t complain. It’s just part of the game’s life while striving towards better balance. kitten happens. Conversely MF is one of the single most cancerous and destructive things in the game, so excising it from the game should be at least as high a priority as balancing an overpowered build. I don’t see how the outcome should fall outside the purview of the common “kitten happens” attitude accepted when someone invested in a full set of gear for their, previously OP, build.

At the end of the day, ANet will come up with something. Either the ability to trade in gear with MF stats for equal rarity gear with any other stat assortment, or turning MF gear into a different set of stats, or something… Either ways, even if they simply erased it from the game, I’m finding it extremely hard to care about the people complaining about their MF “investments” anymore than I would for someone complaining about how they invested in a build because it was OP. That’s nice dear…. Get over it.

Sacrifices have to be made sometimes. Mf gear was a cancer in this game. Killing it is the best thing ANet could do.

That said, given their history, ANet will probably compensate players in some fashion. Gear “trade in” spots, new, relevant, stats or someting.

But even if they don’t and they simply delete all mf gear in the game I’ll gladly see it go for the sake of the game. If the loss of that gear buries the useless leeches with it, I’ll watch it go with a grin on my face.

ProxyDamage.9826

So you’re saying that a 2 person vote kick is the best system we can have right now?

Yes. Make your own party to completely bypass your problem. You can probably still report them for it and they’ll, possibly, be sanctioned.

Don’t get me wrong, the people you played with were utter kittens, and I’d sleep better at night knowing them and people like them contracted some incurable and hopefully horrible disease (or just died in a fire), but there’s really no system they can put in place that can’t be abused. Most of them more so than the current one.

That said, party leaders can’t be kicked. Make the party yourself (or have someone you trust do it) and you’re invulnerable to that kind of abuse. It’s not as comfortable as sitting back and letting someone else do the work, but that’s just a matter of how much laziness you’re willing to sacrifice for your “security”, if you will.

I think the problem with armor in this game is almost everything has a skirt of some sort or it’s a very bulky trenchcoat as far as medium armor goes. Now, I like trenchcoats, but many of them are ugly and there’s too many of them. Some less inflated armor would be nice

Yeah, this is true. I like the general design of the medium karma set (minus the “hair-removig” hat…), but it seems like it comes with a mandatory order of cheeseburgers cause, good heavens, my character gains about 50 kgs everytime he puts it on… Is the armor leather or concrete?

Additionally, a lot of “trench coats” suffer from “cardboarditis”. They’re not affected by physics, so they stay rigidly in place when you move. Cue feeling like I’m wearing cardboard cutouts.

ProxyDamage.9826

While I’d like a non-trench coat option, I can’t say I don’t enjoy a good looking trench coat … But could we have one this time that actually looks good?

You knowOr maybe thisOr even this

While we do have some interesting medium armors, and even some decent trench coats… We have a lot of “lacking” ones as well… For example Conquest armor looks patently stupid, Studded armor makes any character look like an offspring of the michelin man, and Pirate armor has a nasty tendency to ruin any colour you use on it.

But then again this is a normal GW2 tendency when it comes to weapon and armor design. There’s so much concern with the overly exotic and flamboyant that the more “normal” stuff gets neglected.
