Is there such thing as ''best'' solo class?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

Warrior and Guardian would be the best overall “solo” professions, due to the combination of survivability, high DPS and adaptability. Warrior being higher on damage and Guardian on survivability.

Mesmer is the best at soloing champions, but can have some issues with “swarms” due to limited AoE.

Crafting is the easiest, if most expensive, method.

Alternatively it’s doing events.

Currently your best option is to grab some experience boosters, any weapon/build with ample AoE, head to the gauntlet and join the farm train.

Highest Dps Class?

in Players Helping Players

ProxyDamage.9826

I usually play dps classes, so which class does the highest dps?

Too broad parameters.

In PvP? Depends on your build. Currently it would be split between Thief and Scepter Elementalist.

In PvE? Under absolutely optimal, low frequency, conditions? Doesn’t really matter. Full buffs (Fury, 25 might stacks, 25 invuln stacks, time warp, banners, frost spirit, in a corner, etc) + Ele’s Fiery Greatsword (anyone can pick it up) = ridiculous over the top DPS with an equally ridiculous high cooldown and specific setup.

In normal PvE with a party (like dungeons)? Thief for single target (but no cleave or AoE for that) by a small margin, followed by GS Warrior overall (Hundred Blades is murder on AI that’s too stupid to take one step to the side). Guardian and Mesmer are also good options.

Solo play? GS Warrior. Cheap access to fury, hundred blades, and enough tankyness, even in full berserker, to be able to DPS with little concern to odd attacks kills the competition.

OP, it’s terrible practice to talk about things you know nothing about…

As others have explained, you simply have to do a certain % of damage to the boss. I.e.: you actually to have to do something worth your presence. If you’re not getting loot then you were completely irrelevant in killing that monster, so no, you don’t deserve a reward.

The reason you might find yourself needing more damage as more people join the fight is because the boss’s own health scales with people present, and since you require a certain % of that health, as more people join you need to do more total damage.

If you’re not just tagging and running, then either you’re doing kitten all damage (bad gear, bad build, overestimating how much damage you actually deal, etc) or there was a glitch (happened to me a couple of times, though it’s rare).

It’s been mentioned several times that, yes, it’s coming. It should be coming soon in fact, as several people have found bits of it while data mining recent patches.

There’s no guarantee that’ll be the next patch or the one after that, but I’d be surprised if it didn’t make it to this yearly quarter.

Agree you 100%. Anet is a being a real kitten in this matter. Completing 95% of the map on your on only to have the remaining 5% surrended to luck.

Nice necromancy there.

Let’s put this pummeled paste of a horse back to rest shall we? The reason this “PvE achievement” includes PvP stuff is because it’s not a PvE achievement. It’s a global achievement, including PvE and PvP. If you don’t like it don’t do it.

There are a million things that could be happening there. Most likely just a weird interaction with multiple AoEs causing a counter or animation canceling.

It’s also possible that it is down to human error- i.e.: you are someimes doing something that cancels the block, such as double tapping the counter.

Liandri’s attacks are all blockable, but the ranger’s GS counter is slightly atypical.

How do I begin PvP?

in Players Helping Players

ProxyDamage.9826

You got comprehensive enough answers, so I’m just going to add two little corrections:

NPCs that resemble specific professions and so on.

First, the NPCs you can fight only resemble the actual professions in very rough outlines. They’re very stupid (in AI terms), but make up for it by cheating wildly. For example, most of those classes have stats no player could have, blatantly ignore cooldowns/initiative regain (the Thief bot is known to spam skills, such as blinds, nearly infinitely), and will often pull completely random skills that class should never have (such as dual pistol thieves, hammer wielding warriors and longbow rangers suddenly and repeatedly pulling 3 second long full blocks).

As such, they in no way represent what those classes when used by players. Think of them as bots that fight back, with no real relation to the “real” classes.

Also, low level gear and your own stats are uplevelled to 80 while you are in WvW so you are not too badly disadvantaged against lvl80 players.

Secondly, this is correct but misleading. You are upscaled, so you aren’t in such a big disadvantage as, say, you’d be in WoW with a similar level difference (where you’d just get one shot), but you ARE at a disadvantage. Massive one most of the time. You’re lacking proper gear, traits and skills for the most part, which really makes a world of difference.

That’s ok, you level fast enough.

In sPvP (i.e.: the form of PvP that isn’t WvW) this doesn’t happen. You’re instantly a full level 80 with all benefits attached. Additionally, your build and gear in sPvP is completely separate from PvE and WvW, so feel free to experiment and do different things.

Goodluck.

The fact that you needed confirmation that AP means little when it comes to player skill betrays a deep ignorance of both game mechanic’s and the meaning of AP.

AP means you’ve put work into the game. Whether you’ve learned from it or not is an entirely different issue.

That said, if you don’t know someone, odds are the guy that put more time and effort into the game knows it better than the one that invested less.

Figure I might as well.

Guardian, about 20 to 40 tries (eyeballed, wasn’t counting).

Full zerker armor and trinkets, knight’s staff and zerker scepter and shield on switch. Shout build. Full build and gear here

Basically, run the first part with staff for swiftness and AoE attacks, great for destroying orbs without much fuss and constantly tagging Liadri and clones with crits for perma-vigor.

When she switches to the second part, switch to scepter and shield and DPS, giving yourself protection whenever possible, and cleaning her weakness/cripples when needed.

This build gives you several “life savers”.

First you have shelter, that blocks everything for 3 seconds – this includes AoE and clones. It’s a good “get out of jail free” card if you mess up, in a pinch, or if you just want to clear all the shadows. And you have it every 30 seconds.

Second is Renewed Focus. This elite will not only recharge your virtues (giving you an extra heal and block), but most importantly render you completely invulnerable, acting as a secondary “get out of jail free” card, like shelter. Unfortunately it has a much higher cooldown, so use shelter first when available.

Retreat and Virtue of Courage will both give you access to single use Aegis letting you block a single AoE or clone. Retreat is also used in the second phase for additional swiftness access and condition clear.

Finally you have Shield of Absorption. It does nothing to stop the AoE, but neither Liadri nor her clones have any kind of stability, so if you need some room to breath pop it quickly. I used it a lot at the very last crystal of phase 1, when several shadows tend to crowd around. It’s also a neat heal and can be used to block Liadri’s normal auto attacks on phase 1 if you need/want.

Goodluck.

The only problem is gauntlet farming and that’s temporary.

“Champion farming” is only worth that much because the skins are currently very rare, because there are still relatively few of them. But those skins, along with the champion changes, are permanent. As time passes and people amass greater quantities of those skins their prices will inevitably lower, and thus champion farming will become less of a thing, as it’ll become less profitable.

Soon enough Champions will simply be what ANet intended them to be: Just something you’ll go a bit out of your way to kill, but nothing you’ll farm endlessly and exclusively.

If anything the current mass farming of champions is simply rushing us along to that goal, while giving a bit of extra reward to those doing the heavy lifting. I’m ok with that.

What Sagramor said.

Literally, pistols are affected by power. However their power ratios (i.e.: the actual damage they get per point of power) is miserable. They scale much better with condition damage.

Your bomb kit, on the other hand, does scale nicely with power. So you’ll notice a difference there more so than on the pistols.

And altruistic healing is far from mandatory. I’d say AH is only mandatory for defensive shout builds. Meditation builds use Monk’s focus, for example.

Unless they mean it’s “a thing” now, so to speak, and people get those benefits when their characters get to 1 year of age, which I doubt.

Strugar and Chomper

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

The thing is that when people are complaining about lack of damage, that is the answer…

I’m assuming you’re already maximizing your condition damage in your gear and build first and foremost, otherwise this is a pretty silly thread, so if that’s not enough your option in the “get more damage” area is power-based damage, which, 99.9999999…% of the times is the better option in PvE… Which leads us to berserker gear as a way to maximize that form of damage.

I believe Bloodlust only helps your direct damage, which may or may not be worth it on a condition damage build. There’s only one way to know: try it and see if it’s worth it. It does seem to add quite a bit of damage, so might be worth it.

As for the fight itself, I’d say start with Strugar, then Chomper. It’s faster to kill Strugar first since Chomper heals himself everytime he eats meat and is constantly running around after the meat, while Strugar will constantly attack and CC you.

I wouldn’t bother with CC if you’re just trying to beat the boss and not having issues surviving.

Note - There is no RNG with Liadri

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

There are only 3 random factors in the fight:
- In which of the available positions (4 in total iirc) the orbs spawn.
- How far from the center/close to the walls the light pits spawn (only, and the variation is small. Their radial placement and order is always the same).
- Which attack Liandri herself will use when in phase 2 (as far as I bothered to check at least, might actually have a pattern).

Ultimately except for some reaaaaally poor luck, which is super rare, it doesn’t matter. The people saying it’s luck based are simply bad players that fell in the old trap of complaining about things instead of learning to beat them.

ProxyDamage.9826

I am a mesmer, with greatsword and staff. It really sucks for moving around but it’s a lot of fun to fight with (my friend is a thief).

There’s your first mistake. WvW needs mobility. Mobility is very important in GW in general, but it is arguably the most important thing in any WvW build. Not only to get to places fast, but because sometimes you find yourself in way over your head (for various reasons, especially roaming) and you need to get away. Sometimes you need to chase someone. It’s just a fundamental aspect of WvW.

Switch one of those for something with an off-hand focus (I’d recommend sword mainhand). It’ll do miracles. And you should have Blink slotted on your utilities as well (especially if you don’t use focus).

Alternatively just carry a focus in your inventory and use it to run up to places, then switch to the weapon you left out.

Even without those, though, you shouldn’t be taking 10 minutes to reach any point in the map.

Your friend, on the other hand, is absolutely inexcusable. I don’t even know how to make a half-decent Thief build without high mobility. It’s just inherent to the class. Have a shortbow. Tada! You have swiftness on roll and spammable 900 range blinks. That’s before you factor in other potential speed boosts, mobility skills and shadowsteps.

What am I meant to do?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

Today I learned both my friend and I over exaggerated about the same thing.

Ok, so assuming it takes you 10 minutes to cross the map, I strongly doubt that it’s worth waiting 10 minutes for 2-3 minutes of fighting. Maybe it’s not my game after all. Close thread please.

I was assuming 20 minutes was an hyperbole, an assumed exaggeration for dramatic effect, and even then it was excessive.

If you literally mean 10 minutes there is no way in hell any half decent build in WvW will take that long to cross the map. Half of that, maybe. Slower builds at a leisurely, careful, Metal Gear Solid-esque pace.

What class are you using and what build, cause I can’t take anywhere near that long with my Necro, extensively the slowest class in the game.

Also if you routinely die in 2/3 minutes you’re doing something awfully wrong. Once in a while it happens, “kitten happens” and all, but routinely… You’re doing it wrong.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProxyDamage.9826

Why is this thread still going?

Everyone with a clue knows that for about 99% of PvE, as is, berserker outperforms everything else.

You CAN use anything else. You CAN fight naked even. Most of the PvE is quite easy. But if you’re using anything BUT full berserker you’re underperforming. That’s a fact.

Whether your team is ok with that is a different issue. Not relevant. If people agree to underperform, more power to them, but you are underperforming.

Whether you are good enough to run it is a different issue. If you’re not good enough get better. If you don’t want to get better that’s your call, but you are underperforming.

I wish it wasn’t like this. I made quite a big thread about it, suggesting some changes to make it not so. I wish other roles other than pure DPS berserker were equally useful. I wish. “I wish I wish I was a fish”.

Wishing does not change the facts. As it is, and until certain design issue are addressed, your best performance will always come from berserker or bust. If you’re trying to argue that then you simply don’t know the game well enough.

Also why dont we have any tower shields? All the shields in this game are small bucklers or little triangle things. I want an epic shield that looks heavy and takes a man to wield.

I had an image of my warrior in my mind. Now it’s shattered and I will forever look like an oaf with toys.

Fear not, ANet has heard our pleas and actually introduced nice hammers in this latest patch. Check out Genesis or Entropy. Best hammers in the game by far. Cause, you know, they actually look like hammers for this kind of setting.

Meanwhile, I find the Invader hammer or Magmaton adequate, for a “lower budget” situation. Certainly better than the competition.

ProxyDamage.9826

in WvW it takes 20 or so minutes to run back to where you died (which is mind rottingly boring),

I’m not gonna go into anything else (because of various reasons, such as “you do what you want, if you don’t wanna do anything in the game maybe it’s not the game for you” and such), but this is beyond an over-exaggeration.

20 minutes is what you’d probably take to do a lap around any of the WvW maps walking. And I mean walking, not running normally. Maybe perma-chilled as well. If you’re taking that long to get somewhere you’re doing something horribly wrong. WvW greatly emphasizes mobility (and not just to get back wherever you were cause you died). If your build is so severely lacking mobility you should revise it.

Necros are the slowest characters in the game by far, and even they don’t take that long to get anywhere.

Am I screwed?

in Players Helping Players

ProxyDamage.9826

If not that’s an extremely stupid gameplay decision and will probably make me quit again as that’s money wasted basically.

What’s extremely stupid is not reading item descriptions and screen-locking warnings on a thing before you use it, then complaining it’s working exactly as it told you it would. The items you bought tell you exactly what they do, and when you use the skin they, once again, tell you exactly what is going to happen.

Anything else was your erroneous assumption. Don’t make those.

Your option now is transmutation. You can use the extremely cheap Transmutation Crystals for gear bellow lvl 80, and you save your gear and use Transmutation Stones to transfer their looks to level 80 gear. You can do this as much as you want. Or you can quit. That’s your call.

Either ways, it’s your fault.

Unfortunately ascended gear is the best gear for it’s slot, always. The only exception is if there is no ascended piece with the stat combination you want, but that’s a different matter entirely.

That said, full berserker for WvW is generally suicidal.

I have a set, that I built mostly for PvE that I sometimes use for PvP for kittens and giggles, but while it’s fun and all, it’s seriously underperforming compared to my much more balanced set.

What I ran as full zerker guardian in WvW is 10 (II) / 0 / 30 (I/V/XII) / 10 (II) / 20 (I/IX). I ran Greatsword and Scepter/Focus, with Signet of Resolve, Retreat/Save Yourselves, Judge’s Intervention, Contemplation of Purity and Renewed Focus.

The 20% less cooldown on shouts and Retreat/Save Yourselves were there because of it being WvW, and therefore having such a high emphasis on mobility. Since you’re not taking staff you have no other source of swiftness, and you really want swiftness so you can at least keep up with most people (that will have swiftness or passive speed increase) to hit them.

No. No caps or diminuishing returns.

Do consider how much you’re sacrificing for it though. It’s all fine and dandy for PvE, where there’s rarely a point going anything but all in berserker, but for PvP full offense no defense is generally considered assisted suicide.

Some builds can pull it off though, and depends on what you want your role to be.

But to answer your questions once more: No caps or limits on critical damage.
