1600 Rare Greatsword

Mistake

First mistake, expecting gambling to be guaranteed.

Second mistake, expecting 200 gold to equal 500-ish.

Third mistake, “toileting” rares expecting a precursor. Precursors are considered a higher quality than exotic within mystic forge “RNG”. They’re never a good chance to get them, but your best bet is using 4 exotics of the same type as the precursor you want. Forging rares for a precursor is an insanely low chance.

Learn from your mistakes.

PS: I’m not exculpating ANet and the ridiculous system for precursors. It is a ridiculous system. But you’re still doing it wrong.

This.

I could understand the vote deciding which takes precedence, which will be worked and completed first as higher priority, but to deny good content based on something like this is a very bad idea, IMO.

Mystic forge, making exotics

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

As far as I know there has not been a documented change.

There is always the possibility of a bug, glitch, or undocumented change, but 8 cases does not constitute an appropriate sample size to draw any significant conclusions from.

Also there’s very little reason to mystic forge rares. The rate of return for your investment is kitten poor unless you’re extremely lucky. If you want a precursor then your best bet is to MF actual exotics, as precursors are considered a somewhat “superior” quality within exotics, like “exotic 1.5” AFAIK.

The problem with that boss currently is that you can’t repeat it. If you get it right the first time it’s ok, if you don’t, forget about it, it’s nearly impossible.

See that symbol? It’s called a Percent sign . It implies that the value in question is a probability , not a guarantee.

It does not mean that 1 in every 5 “uses” of the mystic forge will upgrade the rarity.

It means that, if you were to use the mystic forge an infinite amount of times, the more you used it, you’d have a pretty good change of getting closer and closer to a 1 in 5 “success rate”.

In short, it’s a random chance, not a guarantee. RNG is RNG.

Fear - an interrupt?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

Of course it does. Fear is a control ability (commonly designated as hard CC in other games). As such it will cause you to lose control of your character and, if performing any action, be interrupted.

And in case you’re wondering no, there’s no issue with it not “counting” as an interrupt. It does. I got the daily interruption achievement thing several times with my necro (at least once after this last patch).

Of course, the whole “interrupt” thing only triggers when the target was actually performing any action when he was CCd. It only triggers during an action’s channel or start up, not recovery.

For the “fast” crowd: Items should not invalidate unique class abilities, even if it is PvE only.

Ok, we need to remove every other item in the game, as almost all of them overlap class abilities.

Stealth? Thieves.
Healing? Several classes, but mostly staff eles and guardians.
Giving protection? Guardian.
Etc, etc.

Just about any item in the game does something another class does and can often by defined by. Irrelevant. There’s no reason why Mesmer should be the only class to have access to Portal (IN PVE) anymore than there’s no reason Guardian should be the only ones capable of giving out protection or Thieves stealth, among other things. It’s a utility skill, it’s not a class mechanic. If the item created clones any class could shatter then I would somewhat understand your complaint.

Also, if what defines your mesmer is using portal, you are useless as a mesmer. In fact, you’re not a mesmer, you’re a Tyrian Taxi Cab.

Crafted armors VS WvW Armors

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

If you’re new to the game you have to understand that GW differs from most traditional MMOs when it comes to gear.

The only things that matter are weapon type (hammer, sword, pistol, etc), rarity (exotic, rare, masterworks….etc), level and stat distribution (commonly addressed by their most common prefixes, such as berserker, soldier, etc).

Any lvl 80 weapon of the same type, rarity, stat distribution and level will have the exact same performance.

e.g.: Any lvl 80 exotic greatsword with berserker stats (power/precision/critical damage) will have the exact same stats regardless of name or “rarity” (in the sense of how difficult it is to acquire, not rarity like ‘exotic’ or ‘rare’).

So, no, the exotic crafted lvl 80 berserker set has exactly the same stats as any other lvl 80 exotic berserker set on the TP or the ones you buy in WvW.

There’s your problem.

I’m pretty sure what you define as “casual” is what I define as “terrible” players – i.e.: players who haven’t the faintest idea of the dungeon’s mechanics and are just sort of winging it (along with their builds, gear, etc) as they go.

Any dungeon will be hard like that. CoE having all paths be worth the same is ridiculous (1 is by far the easiest), but there are far harder dungeons and paths than CoE (like, for example, Arah or TA’s up, forward path).

Berserker back item?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProxyDamage.9826

Not in the trading post.

Back items are, currently, sitting right above breathers in the “poorly implemented mess” scale. Most are untradable, they can’t be salvaged, forged or just about anything really.

The only exotic berserker back items IIRC are either fractals capacitator (don’t do it, it has no upgrade slot so it sucks more than a green one) or Guild backpack.

That said exotic berserker back items are a waste of stats, as you only get 1% critical damage for 16 wasted stats. Extremely inefficient.

Berserker Ascended back items, on the other hand, offer some of the best return on critical damage, with 1% critical damage per 7 stats.

I just did the one in EB and didn’t see my badges go up in my collection. Is this intended or a bug?

There is a chance they directly go to to wallet and didn’t display in inventory. Also if you clicked decompose all collectables before checking it went to wallet for sure. Check next time how many you have in wallet and then after you open a chest to see if number changed.

If you are already checking wallet and it’s not there then it’s probably a bug especially if other puzzles still give badges.

I think this is the case, because I’ve had some currencies go directly into my wallet already, instead of appearing in my inventory.

I’m assuming the OP checked that…? Because yes, currently the currencies go straight to your wallet, not your inventory.

[Legendary] Reputation Discusion

reputation

This is the word I keep getting completely lost on… I can’t understand this. I tried to on the original thread but I ended up just closing it and saying “kitten it”.

Reputation… for having an item? For grinding out an item? For getting lucky with RNG? I don’t get it. “Oh look, someone has something”? It goes completely beyond me. Baffles me. What am I supposed to be impressed with?

To me, the only reputation that matters in a game such as this is being good at the game. Teldo and Jumper have a reputation I care about. They’d be equally scary opponents in full legendary shiny gear or in transmuted (for stats) level 1 gear. They’re impressive for what they do, not what they do it with.

I guess that’s what confuses me entirely. I don’t understand why the difficulty of acquiring an item matters. It always comes down to either grinding it out, which is a matter of patience, or getting lucky, which is a matter of luck. Neither impress me.

Even less can I understand why anyone should seriously care what anyone else looks like. I mean, I notice it when someone looks nice – nice to me, that being an extremely subjective issue and all, but that’s just a “cool”, it’s not something worthy of a “reputation”, and it is completely irrelevant of the rarity of their gear. If anything, sadly, most legendary weapons look like complete kitten. I wouldn’t wear most of them if I got them for free…

So at the end of the day, only things I associate with most legendary gear these days is either horrible taste, or a sad overcompensating attempt at some vicarious notoriety. “Look at me, I have something rare!”. That’s nice dear.

Stop undercutting expensive items

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: ProxyDamage.9826

ProxyDamage.9826

By selling cheaper you also sell faster. Time is money. By making money faster you can also invest faster, for more profit.

If you’re upset someone got their precursor sold before yours – tough kitten. That’s how the market works. If you don’t wanna be undercut make your product cheap enough that people won’t want to. The financial value of an item will always be a meet up between how cheap people are willing to sell, and how high people are willing to buy. Apparently not as high as you listed. Deal with it.

The only problem is the 1c undercutting. There should be a minimum % of undercutting, a percentual value of the item (say, for example, 5 or 10%). Other than that it’s all good. If someone is willing to sell cheaper to sell faster, that’s their problem. If you want to sell even faster you know what to do. Otherwise, wait in line.

As Fractals are a glimpse into the past, perhaps he’s one of the Giganticus Lupicus.

Giganticus Lupicus are canine in appearance. He’s perfectly humanoid.

Sadly this is one of the points where many fractals fail – there isn’t enough story on these supposed historic moments. This fractals supposedly happens “at the beginning of history”, and it is known that around that time giants ruled Tyria. I believe the Jotun “king” or whatever at the beginning of the Norn personal story mentions something along the lines of “true giants” having existed long before humans came.

Giganticus Lupicus being one kind of giant. It’s also hinted that, unless a retcon took place (hope not), the Lupicus we fight in Arah is basically a baby or juvenile. We know of another race we classify simply as “Giants”, because they still exist today, albeit very few of them remain. Colossus would appear to be much older than most races, with the exception of perhaps Lupicus, and could simply have been another race that walked Tyria long before even written history begun being kept, let alone GW1 taking place.

If the tree gets reset for any reason despawn all the kittening spiders. Otherwise if you don’t get it the first time it becomes impossible, simply because you can’t clean all the spiders inside without aggroing the tree into spawning more kittening spiders. Cue endless kittening cycle.

So Anet I got ? City of Hero’s had been around for 8 years, with a very healthy population and was making money on the game. Despite that, out of the clear blue with little warning even the publisher got very little warning, Ncsoft pulled the plug on the servers……

Pressing the bullkitten alarm. Do you have any evidence of the bolded statement? I have yet to see a publisher, no matter how crappy in general they are, pull the plug on a profitable venture. That just doesn’t happen. It’s the exact antithesis of investing in something, which is the core essence of what publishers do. It would be the rough equivalent of a surgeon shooting a patient in the head in the middle of a very successful procedure.

I’m ready to believe quite a lot of nasty things about publishers and “business people” in general, namely that most of them are Machiavellian, “the end always justifies the means”, to the core, but one thing I’m not buying is that they’d strangle an healthy cash cow.

As for the rest: None. I have quite a bad past experience with NCSoft, and yes, my investiment in GW2 may blow up in my face. So far the signs point to NCSoft’s and ANet’s relationship being quite functional, so I’ll take it.

I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it as long as it’s true: Most people playing this game are horrible. Unfortunately, you’re mostly on your own, and when someone else isn’t a complete waste of oxygen you should count yourself lucky.

All too often I see people ignore downed players… Then try to rez the defeated. If you ever try to do the Temple of Grenth in Orr you’ll see this a lot. My favorite so far, related to rezzing, happened to me in PvP, in a tournament , I get downed (that kinda happens in PvP, for those who don’t go there very often), and a mesmer on my team ignores me laying there, downed and rezzing myself, while the opponents were mostly ignoring us, to try and rez a defeated player . Some people were just fed lead paint instead of breast milk or baby formula I guess…

Bottom line: People are stupid, get used to it.

And I’m not going to bother with the whole “SHOULD YOU REZ PPL???”. It’s an incredibly simple topic but, like most things, would take too much effort to explain it when most people aren’t even the slightest bit concerned with understanding it. I’ll leave it at the simplest terms imaginable: If you’re not going to die for it, always rez downed. Defeated are dead and should port. Some situations are different, but if you follow that guideline you’ll be right most of the time.
