PvE rewards have no place in spvp.

get laurels > buy materials with laurels > sell materials on AH > convert gold to gems > buy extra skins / character slots / cow finishers / glory boosters.

Your explanation basically equals use gem shop for pvp items. Steps that come before that are just a random way to acquire gold to buy gems and the way you suggested is probably the most inefficient way to do so. Half an hour doing dungeon will net you more gold than you would get in a week of laurels and ofc you can just use real money for gemshop vanity, the pvp armor skin costs like a bit over 6 bucks?

Truth is, it seems to me that people want PvE rewards/Ascended gear/etc without changing their way of gaming. So they can farm both their spvp rank and pve related gear at the same time, without having to actually step in pve, where that type of gear is intended to be acquired. Reason is understandable, you want easy gear for wvwvw without giving up spvp grinding.

So you want minipets such as Chauncey von Snuffles III not laurels then? I understood that we were talking about laurels overall not 1-2 specific items there. I seriously doubt that your home-/mid-/farpoint or forest bosses compliment you on your mini either. Spoiler: real people exist both in pve and pvp! Discovery!

If you want those items I have no problem if they make it into a gem shop item. Like it is with quaggan backpack you brought as an example, you have to buy them separately both for pve and pvp, because you know….those two sides of the game are separated.

If you want to remove that bridge between those two gametypes, then gimme rank 80 in spvp, since I’m maxed in pve, let me wear my sunrise and pve look in spvp and let me use my gold to buy whatever skin I want and by doing that effectively making any spvp related skin reward useless.

Sidenote: I’m not “polish hue hue hue”, so I have no idea what your “egz.” stands for. Let’s keep it to international arrogance level, ok mate?

Make stuff tradable for glory and there wont be a problem.

I don’t see people running minis in spvp matches and hotm lobby hardly counts as pvp. :P

Since we’ve started doing tournas more often, we are looking for more players interested in tpvp. We probably can’t satify the needs of a 100% spvp player and due to that you’d be way too distanced from our other guildies and as experience has shown, that never works for either side. It’s still all about personalities and individuals not IGNs and player as a “resource”. If you’re someone who enjoys different sides of the game, likes to run various dungeons and would be game for some fun free/paid tournas from time to time, then get in touch.

If you have atleast one carry in your party, then AC and all other lowlevel dungeons are a faceroll with whatever party levels. Haven’t noticed that big of a difference in time taken&success between lvl 80’s or min req lvld players. Aslong as they are familiar with the dungeon or listen to advice, then there won’t be a problem. There is a difference in time spent ofc, but that is similar to for example dps heavy vs all tank build parties. If you’re excluding below lvl 80s and want to be most efficient aka “speedrunner”, you should also exclude it to 1 support per party to not to be a hypocrite. Tough luck if they already have a tankier/support spec beside you.

As a sidenote, my LFM usually consist of words “no prof&lvl preference”, I’m confident in my abilities and I don’t need to be carried.

@Meglobob: What do you mean you lacked dps to kill last boss? The encounters aren’t in any way timed.

I have a warrior, guard, thief and necro fully geared. I main a warrior and necro has equally as kitten feel that a warrior does. It’s a very solid profession, some annoying bugs and quirks, but very-very viable and strong in both pvp and pve. Condimancer is the way to go imo, although my friend who mains a necro runs glass hybrid in pve.

It’s actually quite fun now and is usually pretty easy assuming you have a decent group.

A group that have a majority of people going full beserker will end in tears more often than not though.

Of course you mean the tears of the flame legion who get demolished in an instant? Seriously, one glass warr/sbow thief/ele and they all blow up to the massive aoe. One “tank” per group is enough.

Ontopic, it’s pretty balanced now, doable with whatever setup and not hard, but still requires you to stay focused. Although I loved the old magg room that required good dps/fast focusfire, gave a good adrenaline rush, but it certainly restricted group setup a lot and wasn’t doable with any party. This new version is nice and people just need some time to get used to the new playstyle they need to use there.

I made a quiver since I’m lazy and I don’t like fotm that much. Sadly it clipped with my armor/weapons and moved unnaturally when I was running, so it completely ruined the look for me. I transmuted it on top of the flaming halloween book, atleast that can be used as a light source when needed. They should fix those clipping issues, I can imagine how annoying it could be for some who wanted the backpiece only for the look.

Greatsword versus Axe for PvE DPS

Forceful greatsword makes GS the biggest dps beast from warrior weapons. If you keep contact with the mobs you’ll stay at around perma 25 stacks of might, ofc certain party compositions can spike you up to 20-25, but that’s only for a moment. With this setup you’re keeping perma fury and 22-25 stacks of might on you throughout the fight, that’s where the imba damage comes from and ofc the added bonus of 2 sources for vulna and bleeds on crit. Although axe is good if you’re running hybrid and not the full glass build, it doesn’t come even close to GS in a 20/30/0/0/20 setup. Utility wise I personally prefer GS, 2 excellent mobility skills and one of them is basically an extra dodge with high AoE damage (I’ve seen it hit up to 18k+ on alpha, usual is around 10k), a “skillshot” aoe from bladetrail that cripples a group and does a decent damage. And ofcourse the frontal cleave 100b that just destroys groups and bosses all the same. Personal best is around 34k on CoE golem boss, average is around 24-27k, low-end non crits are around 19-20k. Axe is a decent tanky/hybrid powerbuild weapon against mobile targets, but on its own it has very little utility. Axe&shield/mace are more suitable as 2ndary set for eviscerate, an opener or for a tanky powerbuild in pvp.

You’re “complaining Anet” about what players do? Why, exactly, do you think this makes sense to do?

The reason they are only welcoming Warrior is because Warrior is easiler to make more DPS and keep alive.
Why? Why Warrior is better?
Why a thief has lower armor, but not return in higher DPS?

Hey Nemesis, I’ve stumbled upon your videos in the past also. Very good and detailed explanation as always. I usually main a warrior in spvp/tpvp, but I finally decided to pick my necro as my 2ndary this week. Well the question is for all the more experienced necros out there. What are the most efficient builds/your overall role in free/paids atm? Atm I’ve mostly stayed midfight/homepoint if it’s close and I peel and prepare people for bursters. Necro survivability is awesome and the damage isn’t bad either. I run a terror condinecro build which is a bit inspired from your build.

Great news. A lot of my guildies who are mostly good PvE players have now starting to show interest in spvp/tpvp side aswell. I’ve had a lot of good and even games in paids this week and this has helped me make quite a lot of new friends. Ofc we got roflstomped a couple of times, but overall the experience has been pretty balanced and enjoyable. Very good and close games, even with pugs. Though it seems all week of the same map has tired out some of the top teams. Our inexperienced guildgroup got totally demolished by TP guys in the final round of frees.

Remove the ability to selfrez for some professions from downed state and it’s all good. Downstate adds some more tactical play to bigger teamfights and I actually love it, since eles downstate is fixed I have no complaints about it. As MaXi said, if you’d remove the downstate completely it would be only spike comps left. 5 thief teams noty. Current downstate battles add extra level of tactics to fights.

If you think warrior is weak, go play D/D elementalist, then come back to your warrior.

If you learn to play your D/D elementalist properly, and apply the same playstyle to your warrior, you will notice just HOW superior warrior is.

Axe/mace + (hammer or greatsword) warrior is a D/D ele with 50% more damage, 100% more hp, and better control.

Because you arnt supposed to play you D/D ele like you play your warrior. They are on 2 different levels.

Not true at all.. If you look at the warrior bunker traits and abilities, warriors depend on moving in for large bursts, then getting out and kiting during a regeneration phase to rinse and repeat.

It’s the exact same style as D/D ele.

You’re right, I seem to have missed all of the excellent sustain and defensive boon abili….oh wait. Warrior moves in for large bursts, gets out, takes some damage in the progress and then relies either on teammates to keep him alive so he can pressure even more or just gtfos to a different point.

I think I’ve run path 2 around 100 times and it has bugged for me ONCE and that was like 2 months ago. The ooze skipping issue is a known culprit, so do yourself a favor and don’t skip that fight, it takes what 20-30 secs to kill max?

Definition of average damage in GW2

A) Ele= 600 dmg dragon’s claw and 1.5k ( 2k crit) dmg from burning speed(15s CD) on 2.8k armor targets, 2-3k dmg from churning earth(30s CD- 4.5s channeling) and 800-1k dmg from earthquake(45s CD)

B) Warrior= 3k dmg axe-autoattack on 2.8k armor targets , 3-4k dmg eviscerate(6-8s CD) and 8k-10kdmg 100b combo passing to GS

End result- ele “burst” more than warriors O_o?! WTF?

What in the hell builds are you using? Damage on both professions are really low, but 3k auto vs 3k eviscerate? Since we are on a spvp board, then also take into account effective burst. Warrior damage = zero when not in melee range.

Overall strongest classes in every aspect of the game, essential to bring along:

- Guardian: borderline op bunker pvp, fantastic balance of damage and support in dungeons, backbone of wvw and PVP groups

- Ele: same as guardian

- Mesmer: great for all aspects of the game but mainly due to bringing unique utilities like time warp, curtain, portal, nullfield, etc, otherwise superb in all aspects of PVP in terms of both survivability and damage

Middling classes that excel at certain things:

- Thief: Multiple specs offer insane survival and damage in wvw, great escapes and highest burst in 1vs, mediocre in dungeons but not useless

- Necro: used properly (ie: not as a pet class) has extremely useful tricks to contribute to groups and some very high sustained aoe damage, some great tPVP builds

- Warrior: extreme DPS in PVE and dungeons, mediocre and vulnerable in all aspects of PVP unless running low dps high survival build in wvw

Classes that are not weak, but do need something unique to bring to the table:

- Rangers: decent damage and some useful utilities, but overall lacking in flavour, great for PVE soloers and has 1 very strong tPVP build (among the strongest currently)

- Engis: able to fill in for various roles, but doesn’t perform any of them as well as specialists, great all-rounder in PVE and PVP for people who know how to use them

Okay, you argue about 1 vs 1 situations . Well, what about warriors?

Backstab-Thieve = 50 : 50
Thieve = 100 % (with pistol or shortbow)
Ranger = 100 % Ranger win (tons of conditions and pet)
Necrotic = 100 % Necrotic win (tons of conditions and hp-pool)
Guardian = 100 % Guardian win (best class ingame, nuff said)
Elementist = 100 % Elementist win (heal, cc and movement)
Engineer = 100 % Engineer win (nades, nades and conditions)
Mesmer = 100 % Mesmer win (well played mesmer is unbeatable)

This game wanna go for eSports! This isn´t a l2p issue, it´s only a design-issue.

If both play perfectly and are on the same skilllevel then I actually agree with this. Situation changes a bit in teamfights, but since our role in teamfights is burst and gtfo before we die, it’s not really a plus.

Most dungeons favor offense and that’s the reason why warriors excel at it. We can build ourselves to extreme squishiness, but since everything is scripted/telegraphed we can avoid the damage and stay on the target. Guardians/eles are for keeping us alive, ele at the same time can push out some serious dps themselves. Mesmer is pretty much just Mr.timewarp/reflects. Just to see our point of view, feel free to try warr with the build the “OP warriors” run with, let’s see if you’ll miss having no stunbreaks/condi removals.

EDIT:

  • Do not mix up shouthealing and still doing 20-30k damage. The ridiculous numbers come from a 20/30/0/0/20 spec, full zerker and only damage utilities (no stunbreaks/condi removals).
  • Zerker warrior killshot hits around 10-14k in dungeons. If he is not pure glass, then much less. Volley hits from 6-10k+ as a pure glass build. Rifle auto is about the same as thief sbow auto (1k+).
  • Having no knowledge of spvp or as you said 5% of your overall playtime is no basis for claims like “highly viable”.

We have 1-2 viable specs and those have much less room for error than most of the other classes. Warrior’s “viable” builds haven’t changed at all since beta, only difference is people went even more glass, since speccing for survivability had no effect. It’s still the same GS/?+shield in top play for the past 4-5 months. Furthermore, we don’t have 1-2, but many hard counters from different professions, for example condinecros/shatter mesmer/DD thief/any kiting heavy or lockdown build.

As in playing viably in tpvp. I’ve switched to a immo heavy build due to the DD ele uprising, to counter their mobility and my job is to set up kills for the real bursters (thieves). Since we have no utilities to disengage, when I get focused, it’s 99% death in groupfights. Since we are easily kited with chill&cripple and naturally vulnerable to conditions it’s natural that we will always get focused first.

  • Slow upward fles to downward slam = AoE burn, you can see the circle on the ground
  • Slow downward crouch = spawns AoE knockback circles
  • Fast downwards slam with one hand = fast ground projectiles that KD
    Keep your finger on the dodge button and it’s easymode. Challenge yourself to try and dodge every attack each time you run this and profit.

Awesome mobility bro, seems like a hotjoin zerg build. But seriously, only one air sigil will proc (doesn’t matter on what hand, though if you attack with MH then MH one has priority). Switch our your 2nd axe in axe+shield for a sword and then you atleast have some mobility.

Everything works in wvwvw zergfest, people run bad builds and still kill people. But still as a warrior main since beta, I exclusively run thief or condinecro in wvwvw. Thief for roaming and instagibbing with basilisk+cnd+steal+backstab+hs spam, condinecro for zergfights and EPICdemic. Gooby plz, warrior is an excellent noobstomper in 1v1 against people who can’t dodge/stunbreak bull’s charge, but any higher lvl play than that we become a bit gimped compared to the other superstars. This is from a spvp/tpvp point of view as the actual balance for pvp and professions should remain unaffected by gear/lvl/consumables/zerg numbers.

Warrior due to it’s simplistic mechanics is quite a hard mode to play reliably, but we’re still pretty decent roamers/bursters/rez deniers. If we would get buffed, I’m expecting an uproar of complaints, since all the good players who’ve basically handicapped themselves start roflstomping people even harder.

I’ve tried playing with different things a bit to minimize warrior weaknesses for tourna play. It’s the usual 100b spec of course, but this is what I’ve come up with so far and it’s what I’m playing:

Due to the changes to ele downstate you can immo and fill them with bleeds before they jump into mistform in downstate and prevent them from escaping back to their teammates. Flurry/bolas to non-frenzy 100b and especially when rage procs on sword MH is wonderful, because it gives you an extra quickness. Main burst should be saved after you’ve exhausted your opponent. Slow removal on heal seems to be vital against necros/condi stackers, same with lyssa runes which can be popped after you get peeled/focused. I’m still testing if increased speed from discipline trait is enough to avoid using elite for swiftness. Seems ok so far thanks to gs 3&5 and sword leap. Weakpoints are ofc no stabilitystomp against guards and you have to rely on shield and dodging to avoid burst openers from thieves and mesmers. Strongpoints are the over 9000 immos you get from immo on cripple/bolas, they seem to work really well against highly evasive profs like eles and messing up their rhythm and removing their comfort zone. This spec has less burst than axe+shield/ogre or scholar and less hard CC than mace+shield, but the added mobility and with that the survivability makes up for it. Would like it if more players give it a try and comment how viable they found it.

Playing a warrior in tpvp is hard more, so freaking frustrating at times, but worth it when you win the fight with a handicap. I’d compare warrior gameplay to an old arcade game in a modern game setting. You only have a few actions that do simple things, but timing your A and B buttons correctly against others, who have their fancy gadgets and flashy abilities is what makes us effective. We have our one effective build (lots of variations) and the real challenge is, that we as warriors don’t really have any suprises or tricks up our sleeves. It’s simple and personal.

On the other hand….

We are definitely the strongest profession together with a guardian in all of the PvE content. Our killingpower is supreme, because mobs l2p and eat all of our damage face first. Combined with a bit more survivability from a high natural base hp makes us excellent glasscannons in dungeons who can survive big bursts and keep melee damage upkeep even in big trashpulls. This is because PvE lacks our natural weaknesses, mobs don’t anticipate and dodge our burst, every mob doesn’t focusfire warrior, all it takes to disengage is to go a few feet away from danger. It’s a safe environment where if you know the encounter and the mob scripts you can press your “A and B buttons” on the correct time and win. We are simple and effective.

GS/longbow in PvE, because it’s always nice to start your pull with burning+AoE damage, those two weapons complement each other really well.

GS/sword+shield in tpvp, nice balance of damage&mobility with a dash of CC and mitigation. Leg specialist makes this weaponcombo wonderful.

I use full zerker in pve/dungeons, but I also have a pvt set, which I use in wvwvw/gathering mats. Trinkets are zerker with both sets.

just did fotm 10 currently at 17 got the dredge ice elemental, and it’s completly different now. the elemental now applys agony 100% of the time. how are we even suppose to do this

Um, all of his agony fields are giant very avoidable aoe fields, you dodge bro?

@can- I still see it as kind of a chore, the dungeons haven’t become harder just whining.
@CABS, defensive skills are the entire reason I can roll full dps, I have the most op binded to my alt key, makes me do barrel rolls and such.

Ice elemental was bugged, it applied agony they moment you touched a redring (which had no tells) they hotfixed it like 13h ago or so.

Got to 99% last night before Magg got killed by assassins. Every following try we did worse til we finally gave up.

Course it was our first time in there and most of us are in greens/yellows and I have no idea how people’s builds were (I was running d/d bunker ele). It was a fun fight, really challenging for us, just didn’t have the focus I guess to pull it off.

Honestly if it was as simple as AEing everything down (like the post above me shows in the old version of it) we’d have beat it, but the assassins stealth til they’re almost on him and it’s easy for people to miss them (and they require focusing down). Not to mention it only takes two stabs to kill Magg.

If you can’t AoE focus the new event mobs down, you wouldn’t have stood a chance with the old one. Pay attention, read mob names and whoever spots the assassins calls target on him right away. Then quick focusfire and repeat. Don’t worry that much about the regular mobs, except the ones with the hammer, since CC can be pretty annoying.

Dungeons are rediculous now.

guess this is for encourage ppl use combo fields and every tool available, learn mobs atacks, etc and not just bruteforce dps. die and come back.
+1000 to Anet on this change.

I bruteforce DPS and I’m feeling just lovely. You don’t need dodge replacements from vit/toughness.

Runes: get either ruby orbs or scholar
Gear: full zerker, p/v/t on gs, pow/prec/cond on lbow
Utility: FGJ, SoF/SoS/Discipline banner, SoM
Elite: SoR
Main weaponset: GS with fire/GS with bloodlust (been lazy to gather stacks recently)
2nd weaponset: lbow/mace+shield/rifle

If you don’t have a prot guardian or good support in your group use omnom pie or ghost and you’ll be fine. Works fine in every dungeon. Use SIO or SoS if you need to cleanse some unavoidable conditions, if you have a guard or ele in your group you won’t have a problem. Hands down best damage output in dungeons.

Not familiar with that condition, so not sure if my advice is good or not. But you can try rebinding your dodge button to some comfortable to reach button/mouse scroll, so you can press the dodge key with a relaxed hand.

The purpose is for people to actually learn how to play and become familiar with their dodge button. Graveyard zerging and exploiting everything was always a disgusting tactic in my eyes. People who rolled through the dungeons, died constantly and never stopped to think what was the cause of their death or how to prevent it are getting a rude wakeup call. Hopefully the final result will be more skillful pugs.

Darnit those “pay-to-win” revive orbs, if there only was a way to avoid using them. Oh right.

All the people in this post casually dismissing the fact that the current state of dungeons (like cof p2) is near impossible for pub groups either haven’t tried those dungeons post patch or are trolling.

Is the new CoF p2 Assassin encounter difficult?

Nope, a lot easier than the previous dps check. Takes longer since the assassins seem to spawn percentage based, so you can’t really slack at 94% after killing everything. Silver assassins melt fast, move at a reasonable pace and the regular mobs apart from some hammer guys aren’t really a bother. If you have a guard with stability it should be a breeze. If you could do the wall part without graveyard zerging before, you shouldn’t have any problems with the new version. I like this change, more flexible group composition wise, any group should be able to handle it.

I was a little disappointed in CoF p3, since I liked the need to communicate, but the new change has made things a lot easier. Yesterday, 3 of us ran in, killed all of the mobs, light and profit. The time to sync has also been increased to 7 seconds. Imo they should have kept 5 torches and just increased the sync window. Didn’t notice any other changes in that path, last boss is still annoyingly long.
