in pvp it’s 40% build/60% raw skill roughly due to lack of amulets/food/guard buffs that don’t even come close to the stats you have in wvw.
*cough cele ele’s *cough
OK A-net, why didn’t you guys implement another F ability for the Ranger pet? I mean, Engi and Thief got one to enable more control over their class mechanics.
It would go a long way in improving Ranger pet responsiveness if you could control directly when your dog leaps, moa heals or bird casts the swiftness.Come one, you can do it!!!! There is absolutely no reason not to anymore!!!
Thief did not get a new F ability. They got a QoL change so you can see the CD of steal while holding onto a stolen item, and so you can use steal without having to use your original stolen item just to open the skill back up again.
And yet that QoL change takes up the f2 slot so……
Oh, so you’re going with pointless semantic arguments over practical ones? Sorry, I didn’t realize, I’ll leave you to your waste of time.
Isn’t that what you just did?
The op isn’t asking for new abilities for rangers, he is asking for another f slot to better control the pets. So basically a QoL change that promotes active play over passive. Why would anyone argue against this?

Underwater combat is broken as hell but it’s no worse than having skyhammer, spirit watch or courtyard in the rotation. +1 for bringing it back to unranked.
Traps – Combine these into an Elite Kit. Add an Elite Trap, Smoke Trap, smoke field, blinds and dazes, 60s CD.
Make Camp – Add a survival skill, “You lay a campfire at your location.” …the skill swaps to become… “You instantly return to your camp” 10,000 teleport. 60s CD.
Disrupting Accuracy – Signet skill, Passive: "Whenever you critically hit with an arrow, you daze your target for 1/4s. 5s ICD. Active: Stun your target for 2s. 30s CD.[/spoiler]
Really love these ideas. Bringing back the ranger interrupter and making traps much more usable
+1
but yeah ranger is so underpowered xD
ppl just keep crying and crying and crying
other classes were hit so much harder than you have but nooooo
whine whine whine…I just love how well informed you are. The other classes you are mentioning are in a much better place than ranger is at the moment, it can’t be compared.
Having good selfish condi removal is not going to make you good.
Ignore him, he’s just another salty thief.
Remove the backwards leap all together, move the evade to the forward leap, lower the cooldown.
It would be better for mobility and you could remove the animations from sword 1 without losing the “stickiness” of main hand sword.
Asuran. Moment of clarity and technobabble. Plus the best animations.
This won’t be the golden age for melee rangers until they fix healing spring and the offhand range/radius. The new traits are good but for me personally, they don’t make up for breaking these other things.
I have the opposite problem. Sometimes in the game I’ll play a staff ele and I’m dealing massive damage by shooting fireballs and summoning meteor showers to smite my enemies. I figured it would be pretty awesome to do that in real life so I went out and got a staff but guess what? The lousy staff doesn’t do any of the things I can do with it in game, it’s just a piece of wood that comes in handy for hiking.
I swear the developers have no sense of reality when designing this game, rangers should be 1 shotting people and eles should be taking hikes. I say we riot until they fix this.
Ranger doesn’t really have any problems dealing damage or avoiding damage that I’m aware of.
As a matter of fact, the class itself was buffed, and only when you start to make cross-class comparisons does anything seem imbalanced….
….which brings me to the point that this was not a balance patch. AT ALL. This was ANet updating their system for the new system and mechanics that are going to be introduced in the expansion. It was a REVAMP. Balancing will happen with the expansion.
So that’s my first point.
My second point is this: comparing ranger to things that were broken with the patch like Grenadier and mesmer burst or guardian burn combos and then saying “we’re weak because we didn’t get that” isn’t the way to balance a game. All of the these things that people are comparing the ranger to are going to change. Grenadier was already fixed, and Mesmer will not be retaining its current status. Making balance arguments and comparing to the MOST broken, obviously going to be changed mechanics in the game is just…. I don’t have words to describe how incompetent you would be at balancing anything.
So, now that all of that is out of the way, yes, agreed with the sentiment of the OP.
Now, do I agree with the choice ANet has made to essentially revamp everything then leave the game in shambles and make slow, ineffectual shave balances up until the expansion release? Not particularly, but I understand the decision. It hurts the community, especially the already small competitive community the most when the game is left imbalanced, but with the expansion and the time schedule people are working with, it would be seriously difficult to make sure the expansion launch goes smoothly AND smooth out the issues that the “expansion prep” patch created.
It’s easier as a dev thing to make sure the game is stable, albeit imbalanced, after the core patch, then work any big fixes into the expansion release, while slowly shaving the game as time allows to make those changes up until the expansion drop. It avoids making ALL of the changes at once and having twice as many variables to balance. This way, the devs can drop the balance patch for the core system at expansion time, then shave what needs to be shaved with the elite specializations afterwards without having to worry about the rest of the balance.
BUT, being on here and seeing so many people just bawling their eyes out is super frustrating to me because it’s extremely premature to be doing so. We’re literally playing less than 5/6 of the intended final product of the game’s classes right now.
tl;dr: Just…. wait until the expansion drops, people who are insistent on making a million threads about how imbalanced the game is…. because ANet knows the game is imbalanced right now; this was a REVAMP, not a balance patch.
Unless I missed an announcement they still haven’t given a release date yet, so there is no reason they shouldn’t be focusing on balancing the game right now.
I don’t blame anyone for getting upset about the changes and flooding the forums to try and get something done. Anet has shown us on multiple occasions that they only respond when people start getting hostile.
All it would take to calm people down would be a red name popping in here and discussing some of the bugs/problems.
I run ranger as my main and I dont see a problem with it. Sure we arnt as strong as a warrior but as long as you run power precision ferocity you pack a pretty powerful punch. Then add all the conditions from your your weapons,, your animal and your sigils. They will just melt now use your beastmastery to add more condition damage then throw on superior rune of the krait and people pretty much die. You just have to sit there and play around to find your ranger build. I run zergs, I roam, do pvp, dungeons, even command as my ranger.
Please tell me you aren’t running full zerk with krait runes…
I’d replace shortbow 2 with this http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Choking_Gas let the gas linger in the area for about 5 seconds and give it a pulsing poison effect as well.
Let quick shot interrupt a skill and disable it for x seconds
Increase the cripple duration of crippling shot, add x stacks of torment and let it give the ranger a few seconds of super speed.
Change light on your feet to grant 25 or 33% movement speed while wielding a bow and immobilize an enemy for 2 seconds when you interrupt a foe (15 second cooldown)
I’d still like to see the trait moved to beast mastery and changed to ”pets attacks transfer 1 condition from you and your pet to your opponent.” Give it a 3 second internal cooldown.
This means you would have to actively use and manage your pet instead of setting some tanky pet on passive to soak up your conditions.
How about changing it to this:
Situational Awareness
Take 50% less damage from retaliation. Your projectiles are destroyed whenever they are reflected.
Lol is the name meant to be ironic? I mean that would definitely be a great trait since mesmers now reflect every time they sneeze but having a passive system in place to keep you from rapid firing yourself is kind of the opposite of situational awareness.
I love soften the fall, it always looks like the jump scared us so much that we literally crapped ourselves.
But seriously, the only fall damage trait worth taking is the warriors for trolling people on gates and at hills cata spot.
Need to check the sigils on the weapons, same kind can’t be used for the same set.
I have fire and air…. Unless you mean two on crit sigils won’t work? unless they changed that recently I’m pretty sure they still work together just fine.
HS is just awful for WvW now. Just revert it to back to before the trait change. You can still call it a trap… You can call it any kittening thing you want, just make the kitten thing work.
Flavor over function is a terrible way to balance a game.
First off, there aren’t 4 million people playing the game. I talked about ten people into buying the game and out of that group I’m the only one still playing.
Including myself, 4 people I know bought it. 3 still play. That’s a whopping 75% retention rate! That means 3 of those 4 mil accounts still play!
Oh, wait, a sample size of 3 (or 10) people is completely useless, anecdotal evidence. So why did you even bother mentioning it at all?
But for arguments sake lets say you’re right in your numbers. That still doesn’t mean our opinions don’t reflect what the majority of players feel.
But it doesn’t mean your opinion DOES reflect the majority either. What it means is you have no idea what the majority thinks and are therefore unqualified to speak for them.
If you present an idea and 90% of the people that post on the forums hate it, then odds are the players base will show a similar percentage. The idea that just because we regularly post feedback somehow means our opinions will be different than the people that don’t post, doesn’t make any sense.
This rational almost makes sense, until you consider one crucial factor.
You are the minority in your actions (visiting the forums and providing feedback) and your actions are (hopefully) dictated by your thoughts, so why is it so difficult to accept you may also be the minority in your thought process as well?
The very same qualities that draw you to the forums to provide constructive feedback indicate a difference in thinking between you and the silent majority.
Again, it’s perfectly FINE to provide constructive feedback. Just stop pretending everyone always agrees with you. Why is that so hard to understand?
Well by your logic you are also the vocal minority because you are posting on the forums, hell because of your opinion of this event you are the minority in the minority. Which means it’s just as likely that the majority disagrees with you. Pointless argument is pointless.
End of the day this is a stupid idea, the only way it makes sense is if they are trying to remove the surplus of WvW badges so they can introduce something worth buying. Even then it’s a pretty crappy way to do it. After months of unbalanced matchups my tier has finally sorted itself out but instead of getting to enjoy some balanced fights we get a week of broken WvW.
You posted… "Inaccurate blanket statements like this, using “everyone” “always” and “never” often result from this social effect.
FOLLOWED BY
" Now, is there a vocal minority that dislike golems? Definitely."
Please refrain from Inaccurate blanket statements like this……..
Unlike the vague "we want this and we hate that!’ people tend to spam, thinking they speak for everyone, my vocal minority statement is a verifiable fact, not an opinion based on believing everyone agrees with me. Saying “all of us like blue skies” and saying “the sky is blue” are very different. One is false consensus, the other is a fact.
The entire GW2 forum population is only a fraction of the GW2 player base.
The WvW forum represents only a fraction of the GW2 forum base.
The ‘vocal minority’ who makes wild claims based on the false-consensus effect are only a fraction of the WvW forum base. They are ‘vocal’ because, relative to the population base, they possess a high post frequency regarding a specific number of topics, and they are a ‘minority’ because they represent an extremely small % of the overall population.“Vocal Minority: The small group of individuals that frequently and strongly voice their opinions, constrasting with the silent majority that makes up most of the population base, but rarely give their opinions. "
But dont believe me, go and verify it for yourself! Count the number of unique names you see posting AGAINST golems in this WvW forum using a forum crawling script/bot (or manually if you’re insane). Then compare to the player base estimates. In 2013, ANet reports 3 MILLION box copies sold. Reports of 2014 guess around 4 million+ copies out there. Thus even if TEN THOUSAND people complained in unison about the Golem rush, they’re STILL a vocal minority, representing only 0.25% of the population defined by mathematics.
Or, ya know, you could keep nitpicking at my statements instead of realizing that the entire forum here is a vocal minority, including the two of us.
My original post was designed to provide forum goes with an alternate perspective, in the hopes that those who believe they speak for EVERYONE, might gleam some insight regarding their falsely held belief that everyone thinks exactly as they do. I keep mentioning false-consensus for a reason. I’m not trying to force my strongly held opinion on anyone, or claiming that my opinion is held by anyone other than myself, im simply putting it out there to be read.
I see a lot of statements in this thread going “ANet ignores all us Vets!” and “WVWers dont want golem rush!!”
Well, I’m a WvWer, and a Vet, and I want Golem rush.
People need to stop speaking as if they represent everyone.
First off, there aren’t 4 million people playing the game. I talked about ten people into buying the game and out of that group I’m the only one still playing. Plus you have to consider how many people bought multiple accounts when the game was on sale. I’m currently posting from a different account than the one I play on. So yeah, your math is wrong.
But for arguments sake lets say you’re right in your numbers. That still doesn’t mean our opinions don’t reflect what the majority of players feel. If you present an idea and 90% of the people that post on the forums hate it, then odds are the players base will show a similar percentage. The idea that just because we regularly post feedback somehow means our opinions will be different than the people that don’t post, doesn’t make any sense.
yup, same problem here..
Ok one point for you:
If you want to fight the Zombie-Golems you need golems yourself. If you have no golems you can’t fight them because they got 100% more dmg and 100% more speed. So I can’t do a normal raid with my guild for a whole week. It will only a week of Eotm-karma-train on the normal WvW maps.
No strategies, no movement nothing. Just circle-karma-train.
Welcome to Eotm-Karma-Golem-Train-Week.
I feel your reasoning is flawed, though I understand the basis behind it. You’re taking the current Golem situation is simply multiplying it by 50.
Consider these counterpoints:
1. Golem Rushes are largely successful because they’re SURPRISE attacks. People don’t normally expect Golems, and when Golems do get scouted, they typically get rekt hard and fail to accomplish anything.
Golem week will be a week where expectations change drastically. The meta will quickly shift to account for and handle the Golem hordes.2. Defenders rarely have Golems. They mostly reply on Cannons, ACs, and disablers.
Golem Rush week will see Golems on BOTH sides, attack AND defense. Also? Two bonuses for Golem haters:
Golems may be less plentiful in the following WvW weeks, as both the supply and demand may be low from overuse.Anti-Golem tactics will flourish, and may remain a small part of the meta in the future, after Golem Rush week.
What anti golem tactics? Did you miss the part where golems will cost 0 supply? That means a 5 man group can walk up to a keep door and spike build 5 golems. If you do kill a golem and the driver has golem mastery he will pop out at full health in stealth, throw down another golem and hop in.
Whoever thought this up was high as kitten or just decided it would be hilarious to kitten over WvW players.
Do not compare AR with ET, two completely different beasts. I was on AR for the trip down to T8 and back up, it is not even remotely close to the same thing. AR still had people playing in WvW, it wasn’t huge numbers but there was activity, ET has literally no activity. You can’t pull water from a well that is dry.
That’s bullkitten, AR was dead during the last tournament, then the few guilds started running events, making sure to tag regularly and getting there pve players into WvW. Once the ball started rolling more and more pve players started hopping in.
We still loose a kitten ton of fairweather players on bad weeks but on good weeks we open recruit and train our new players, and those players stick around.
If you haven’t played on ET, you clearly don’t understand the severity. The fact that you probably haven’t ever even been on ET makes it rather easy for me to discount your opinion. Thanks for adding to the discussion though.
I’ve had an account on AR since launch, we were in your shoes for a long time. There was a about a year straight that T8 was ET, AR, X server.
You say it is completely dead but there are at least 4 or 5 people in this thread alone that said they play on ET. Quit complaining and organize an event between you. Figure out a good time that you all can show up and get 4 or 5 guildies to join each of you. There you go, 20-25 people.
If you do something gimicky like a minion master night you will probably get a crap ton of PvE’ers to join you.
2) what is a puck build? I’d really appreciate a link.
Scroll up.
The traits have been out a couple weeks, stop looking at what other people are running and do some experimenting.
have you even read anything other than the sentence in which your name was mentioned?
I’ve been testing tons of stuff and I stated my experience with it.
I simply asked for the build because the other poster keeps mentioning amazing builds and says my points aren’t valid without ever elaborating or even giving me links to those builds.
Too hard to scroll up? 2nd post in this thread.

What the actual kitten…..
I’ll be taking that week off
So you map hop looking for a commander tag and what….. go to eotm when you don’t find one? Gee I wonder why it’s a ”dead” server.
Why don’t you buy some siege and start tagging up yourself? Give the other pugs that can’t think for themselves something to rally to.
Maybe next time you should read ALL the replies instead of posting and looking like a fool. There is a Commander from ET in this thread, but you would know that if you had taken the time to read.
Oh I saw that, I also saw all the fairweathers including the op who leave WvW when they don’t see a tag.
If you had more people tagging up on a regular basis you would have more people coming into WvW on a regular basis.
I play on AR, we spent our fair share of time in T8 and we dragged ourselves out of it by getting organized. If the op doesn’t like his situation he can grind some gold to pay for a transfer, delete his characters and move, or get off his butt and help his server out. Leaving WvW because no one is tagged and qq’ing on the forums isn’t helping anything.
Pretty disappointed that anet still didn’t consider this worth discussing. Thanks again for destroying my favorite thief build

My only problem is they nerfed offhand weapons and stuck poison master in the same spot as our condition removal traits.
Here is the build I’ve been running http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQRAnf8YnEqA9CiVsAusAUtgBKhqDgSNC+fYzzcfyngLvkdVA-TJRHwABeCAAOJAh2f4YZAA
It covers pretty much everything you’ve been having trouble with.
Not sure why you have an aversion to going into beastmastery, that line is awesome now and your buffed pets really bring up your damage.
yah im looking forward to that. just played a few with double birds, and it absolutely wrecks mesmers and thieves.
Yeah I haven’t lost a 1v1 yet since I started running it and I’ve won a number of 1vX’s
Realy? Havnt lost to a single condi spec?
On paper, terror necros suppose to counter your build.
Also condi mesmers and eles.
I don’t think I’ve run into a single condi mesmer in PvP since the change, I’m seeing a lot more shatter. I’ve run into plenty of them in WvW and destroyed them.
Full condi ele’s can hurt if they catch you off guard but they melt in a 1v1, their health is just too low for PvP. Cele ele’s are much more dangerous but if you bomb them right after they swap from water they will usually go down.
Necros are annoying because of their huge health pool but are easy kills if you avoid the condi transfers. Most of them die if you lock them down with entangle and get behind them.
Honestly I don’t take that many hits in 1v1’s because I fight like an kitten. I wait until they get taunted or entangled and I bomb them, then I go back to kiting while my birds lay into them and the condi’s tick away, and I wait for another chance to bomb them. That’s why I like having the sword and dagger on the same set. What sucks about fighting like this is the offhand nerf really hurt my sustained damage since I can’t cover the majority of the point in a fire field anymore.
yah im looking forward to that. just played a few with double birds, and it absolutely wrecks mesmers and thieves.
Yeah I haven’t lost a 1v1 yet since I started running it and I’ve won a number of 1vX’s
right now im not sure I wanna get too used to blind spam. im pretty sure theyre gonna put an ICD on GFTE sooner or later. but doing it once every 6s is nice for sure. two birds, u get to do a little more often. there is still a 15s CD on pet swap in combat.
I just swap my bird when it’s getting low and keep spamming f2 (wish I could set that to auto attack), having a bird up really makes or breaks my build. It will be nice when they get around to including those pet stats they forgot about.
Between the weakness and protection/bark skin you don’t really take that kind of damage in PvP. The regen allows me to shrug off auto attacks and still keep my health above 90% so I can save my dodges and evades for the hard hitting skills. If I do screw up I just use the swiftness and evades to kite around keeping the point disputed while I heal up.
I hate giving up the blind spam but for my play style I find the regen/swiftness more useful. Plus the perma protection and regen on the pets keeps the birds from insta dying to cleave damage.
WTB Dire amulet
also I feel kittened for not even trying this, especially since I always used to run various celestial builds including shout regen and just abandoned it after this patch cause I felt all of them were too weak exept I didn’t make this obvious build.
If you feel like trying a shout regen version again, here is what I’ve been running. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQRAnf8YnEqA9CiVsAusAUtgBKhqDgSNC+fYzzcfyngLvkdVA-TJRHwABeCAAOJAh2f4YZAA
The regen+weakness spam really helps with staying above the 90% threshold for bark skin.
oh sorry I missed your build. glad im not the only one running it. yes, lack of mobility sucks.
I could have sworn you commented on it in another thread saying cele looked interesting. Might have been someone else, and I am far too lazy to try and search from my phone.
I’m surprised you went with a bear over dual birds. I found 3 survival skills is usually enough to handle condi’s in most encounters, and the blind/weakness spam, not to mention damage, really drops off when you swap from birds.
Looks pretty similar to what I posted accept you swapped the regen for a little more toughness and that sweet, sweet blind spam.
I tried running with the blind spam instead of shouts but it drives me crazy not having Perma swiftness. really sucks that you can’t take adept traits in the master and grandmaster slot anymore, I’d be tempted to try it in place of beastly warden.
Trash the exotic or use the ascended on a different character.
Can’t believe no one has made a size doesn’t matter joke…
I prefer my birds to stay small and hard to see but I would definitely be cool with a slider option.
what do you guys think about LB rangers now? still as scary after the changes?
Probably even scarier, but now every longbow abuser use some other cancer build. Anet could check who started abuse burning after patch and ban all of these kitteners.
Rangers burning is mediocre unless you sit in our bonfire (which had its radius nerfed) or trap (which can no longer be thrown).
If you want to complain about something complain about all the professions that apply burning on auto attack.
Well i think that most of these longbow rangers play guardian now anyways.
and all the roamers switched to mesmer (and engi before they disabled the broken grenades)
What exactly is the problem with Swoop? It is 2 leaps, you can see that in the animation. Why shouldn’t is count as 2 leap finishers?
we needed what we have now last meta this meta we need buffs.
Friggin nailed it.

in spvp, not well. damage spikes are too high, so even running x/x/6/6/x with 16k HP blows hard. any scrub Mesmer can pop you for 10-12k on your 3k armor, and someone else will finish you off. that’s been my experience in my mmr bracket running low vit builds. wish we had access to shaman stats.
Yeah, 16k HP is just too low, I sacrificed a little damage for more survivability by using cele http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQRAnf8YnEqA9CiVsAusAUtgBKhqDgSNC+fYzzcfyngLvkdVA-TJRHwABeCAAOJAh2f4YZAA
The axe might stacking and the bird damage really make a difference though.
Here is my WvW version http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQRAnf8YnEqA9CiVsAusAUtgBKhqDgGPC8JfCu8/H28MvkdVA-TVzCABAcEAO+BAAoOgX0OMpaAcpUYTVCm4kAolyoEVCmlSmZ2fwGVdIFwiitA-w
I haven’t lost a 1v1 yet and I only lost a couple 1v2’s (after being moa’d or something equally kittenty), 1v3’s get a little tougher because you start hitting the point where they can power rez and this build doesn’t have the best stomping potential.
We need ports a lot more than out of combat swiftness for PvP.
or could give ranger the camouflage only when STANDING STILL perfect combo for trappers.
Remember this? : https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hide_in_Plain_Sight
i remember but i mean it should be Utility or elite skill with very low cooldown so give us rangers setup time LIKE BATMAN !
Something like…
As cool as that would be, they would never let us have that. Think about how OP that would be in WvW.
Why would it be OP when Mesmer can easily do the same already, while MOBILE?
Thanks to PU, now I see many duo Mesmer combo kept on trying to instant gibbing from stealth with NO TELL. Absolutely no warning, you can’t see them anywhere 100% of the time.
I’m assuming you are talking about a trait or signet that lets you stealth anytime you stop moving.
This is stealth with no tell what so ever. There is no timer on when it wears off. If you see a keep is under attack you can run in and stand literally anywhere on inner without being discovered and just wait for the zerg to leave.
