Don’t play PvE
WvW- worse off than before. We took some small nerfs , received some neat new tricks, but most of the other classes are in a much better place than before so they have passed us up
PvP- about the same, still fun to play, solid in 1v1’s, but they still didn’t do anything to address our weaknesses that keep us from being viable for high level PvP (lack of boon stripping and ports).

rather have clarions bond every two pet swaps that way i know which pet will be out when the blast happens.

I fail to see how getting it once every other pet swap is positive in any way compared to every pet swap. You could get the effect every pet swap, and in turn get it on the pet you want it on in addition to your less desirable pet.

It’s just clunky and it’s current form and it makes Remorseless trigger less, which in my opinion was the fun and gameplay changing build I’ve always wanted.

That also means you started to play a build you didn’t want.
The 30 sec. CD part of the trait was designed ever since implemented. If they change it – I’ll be glad. If they don’t – I wouldn’t mind.

I expected it to work that way regardless. I found it way too exploitable with 15 sec CD. It basically said “F@#k you” to Warhorn. If you use the trait and warhorn – you now get 100% uptime and both blasts.

If you want to address something – address Call of the Wild. Not Clarion Bond.
I find it strange that people want adept trait to be 200% of a Weapon’s Ability.

People have been asking for a shorter cooldown on Call of the Wild since… forever

WvW pov- power longbow lost damage but gained survivability.

Condi builds took a nerf from the changes to offhand range and radius, and not being able to run SotF+EB at the same time (although this didn’t matter at the moment because EB is useless now that condi’s stack in intensity)

Spirits are worthless

Traps might have a place in pvp but they are completely worthless in WvW now

Beast mastery is finally worth taking, the taunt could use a slightly larger range, but we still need control of our pet skills and they need better pathing. Natural healing needs to be changed back to what it was, it is beyond worthless now.

remorseless, protective ward, and quick draw are fantastic changes, they make melee really fun

Shortbow GM is terrible and needs to be changed, maybe a flat damage boost and access to faster movement speed/vigor. Shortbow also needs to be 1200 range by default

Honed axes isn’t close to being worthy of a GM in it’s current form and it doesn’t compete with the other 2 BM GM traits.

Any trait that activates on pet swap should have a 15 second internal cooldown to prevent tonic exploits. It shouldn’t be more than 15 sec for QoL

Strength of sprit (or whatever it’s called now) needs to go back to being based off vitality. If it is going to be based off healing power the bonus should go to condi damage.

Healing spring changes are pretty terrible for WvW

Shouts are in a much better place but they need to work with trooper runes.

Overall impression- we got some great options for 1v1 fights but took a nerf for 1vX and group fights, especially considering the massive buffs some of the other classes received.

Also, they should really consider adding an effect to ‘Hidden Barbs’ since its been nerfed to 20% bleed damage instead of 33%: The old Keen Edge (apply ‘Sharpening Stone’ when target reaches 75% health) Please aNet please.

Move it to beast mastery and have the pet transfer 1 condition from you and the pet to the target with a successful attack, give it a 3 second cool down.

This would still require good pet management but the trait would no longer be a death sentence for your pet.

It barely heals the pet either but seriously it’s completely useless anyway, pets are god mode if you have barkskin wich you do, full wvw camps or pve champions your pet doesn’t even take dmg it’s going to get the bat I think.

pet’s are god mode until you run against a condi player and then they melt instantly. A decent regen would help with that.

Last time I checked they still had the HoM rewards locked because of some bug that was letting everyone get the rewards. When I get home I’ll check to see if the HoM is back up.

Not sure how long it would take you to get the actual points (I played the game for years) but it takes less than a day to get a character to max level and geared out.

Yeah, the only place you can use PBS is when solo roaming WvW or PvE

OR in PvP when interrupting stomps, channels, knocking someone off point, or off a ledge, knocking players into an aoe bomb, etc.

Every skill is useful in the right situation. You shouldn’t tell new players otherwise.

@OP- take the time to learn what each of your skills does. There are a lot of people in this game that spam 1-5, swap weapons and repeat. Don’t be one of those people.

No, don’t spam longbow 4. Be aware of what it does and use it when it’s appropriate. That skill is incredible valuable in pvp and WvW.

This is the same for every skill. Be prepared to adapt to the situation. You may find you really enjoy using longbow and shooting things from a distance but in certain situations, like pve dungeons, you will be much more effective using your melee weapon.

Continue checking the forums and asking questions. Also look for good steamers and check metabattle to get a good idea of what builds work where, and then adjust the builds to fit your play style.

Had another idea for MDG.

Forget the 50% condition, it is too hard to balance around, because it is so unreliable for us to trigger and counter-intuitive to stay in that condition.

MDG; Whenever you gain Might, your pet gains it too. Whenever you swap weapons, you gain 5 might for 7s. Might you apply has a 20% longer duration.

What about that one? Synergy with the other swap traits, our signets, “RaO” and ability to stack might on the pet without FB.

Not a bad idea, great synergy with main hand axe too

Well I just do not understand the logic of its removal. They increased the Mesmer Pistol range to 1200 from 900 and added an extra bounce to trait 5 as baseline.Indeed a number of classes saw their own ranged weapon get a longer range. I really do not know what was so wrong with the 1050 range with bounces.

I think a lot of these decisions happen in a vacuum where there no real consistency when one takes a step back.

Now I do not think this because “they got it in for thieves” or “They favor engineers”. I think it because they really do not look at the big picture to make sure justifications remain consistent.

Ricochet did nothing over and above what other classes can do with their own traits. It did not make P/P OP and few used P/P. It was just a lot of fun.

They did the same thing with ranger traps and they are just destroying necro’s on so many levels. They are taking weak specs and making them weaker to try and fit an idea of what they should be according to some made up lore.

So many of these changes feel like they completely disregarded balance and instead went with “wouldn’t it be cool if it did this”

The developers can’t use that excuse to make their jobs too easy. Build diversity cannot be thrown over for “easy balance” – that’s just lazy.

I would rather have good balance over diversity. Doesn’t matter if you think the devs are lazy/understaffed/bad at their job/confused/high as balls or whatever the reason may be. Because fact remains that we see meaningful balance updates very rarely, and if the devs feel that they need less diversity in stat spreads to balance things easier I will whole-heartedly support that.

You should check out this game called “Pong”, sounds like it would be prefect for you.

As already said: I’m fine if the traps can be thrown. But that would ask for higher arming time (1 / 1,5 seconds? ) for enemies to have chance to walk out of there (I’d like to see your rage at that point, guyz).
Ranged AoE knockdown on 20 second cooldown that cannot be blocked? Yea, sure, I would like that too.
And that’s why it’s wrong to have it. Traps should be defensive. Not offensive. And they can slap some serious a** at the moment. But you need to know why and where to use them.

Revenant is getting a ranged aoe knockdown on a 15 second cool down, and they aren’t wasting a utility slot for it.

The GS fury trait gets a 10s cooldown. Its best skill has perhaps the biggest tell in the game, I still don’t see it being viable at all.

Maul does have a big tell and it can be tough to land on a good player… but look at this and the other ranger qq threads, a bunch of people will eat an entire 2.5 second channeled attack. How hard do you think it is to hit them with maul?

quickdraw has absolutely everything to do with it. when you stack a bunch of very good GM’s with a lot of utility, you get a very good build. one that is better than others. quickdraw allows things like double Hunter’s Shot, or double swoop. so it hugely increases our survivability (as well as damage).

yes we can slot EB and SotF right now. but we do way less damage than we’ll be doing after the patch. pure condi builds aren’t prevalent in the meta, so slotting both in fact is wasteful. next week, we’ll have a ton more survivability via BW, Quickdraw, and Barkskin. we’ll also be stacking lots of poison, our pets will be hitting harder, and our bleeds will be doing +33% damage.

when you make suggestions like these, you have to take into account the ENTIRE picture, and how GM’s interplay with each other.

Honed Axes needs to be competitive with BW. it needs to reduce OH axe recharge (like in original reveal), and buff richochet damage by at least 30% so power builds can include a/a.

Oh I am looking at the entire picture. Quickdraw is powerful but you have to look at the changes to all the other professions, not just ranger. Everyone is going to be much more powerful (except necros who got screwed). I don’t think these changes are out of line at all.

Depending on player skill and utilities you can get by just fine with either EB or SotF even against a condi heavy player. Having them in separate lines doesn’t mean people will automatically grab both, they will both be up against other strong traits. All this does is open up build diversity. Beastly Warden alone is enough to ensure EB won’t be taken by everyone.

NO. running EB with WK, SoR, and Quickdraw would make us godmode. basically completely immune to condis. especially if you decide to run a brown bear in there as well. please stop suggesting these swaps. youre completely out of touch with reality. Honed Axes is pretty useless and it does need a buff, but i wouldn’t be moving it around too much.

What does quickdraw have to do with any of that? As for the condi removal you listed, we have all of that available at the same time right now and no one is crying about us being god mode.

Currently it is extremely unlikely that anyone will bring Honed axes or poison master. Moving the traits opens up options for grandmasters that are currently completely ouclassed.

I’d rather see Honed Axes give 10% crit chance for each axe equipped, since ferocity doesn’t do much for condition builds. At least this way, you get a benefit to power builds and condition builds through on-crit procs.

I thought about that but I’d be really interested in seeing how much damage an axe/axe power build would do with 300 extra ferocity and might stacking. Right now there are very few power builds that a main hand axe is useful, this may be enough of a boost to make it an option.

I’ve always found the axe main hand to be rather poor for power builds. It only maximizes it’s damage output when you’re fighting clusters of enemies, so you always need something else to handle single target situations.

I’ve never seen a build go for might stacking with the axes, but the duration just seems to be too short to do that much with.

There’s also a problem with the mainhand axe skills being rather sluggish. Sometimes, if I try to use splitblade after auto-attacking, there’s this weird pause for about a second before it actually comes out.

I made an axe/axe build that I’m looking forward to tweaking for the specialization updates, but I still have little faith in it being any good (although it’s also a shout build, so that probably doesn’t help at all).

Yeah I agree with pretty much everything here. Especially main hand axe being a little poor for power builds. I just figure 300 ferocity comes out to something like 20% more crit damage. That mixed with some boon duration or strength runes to make might last longer and provide more stacks should bump up the damage, especially if you get path of scars to crit.

If it still ends up being weak they could consider tweaking the trait to buff the attack speed on axes.

I think they should make traps throwable by default and then give a trait called “Prepared Traps”
The trait would make you set traps at your feet but each trap would have a much stronger effect added to it on top of its’ regular affect. Like one would get immobilize, 1 would get stun, knockdown , etc.

Depending on a persons playstyle they could choose whether they want to set up tactical defensive traps or have a more active ranged aoe attack.

Seems to me that if you are including the war room which gives you access to air ships, motorcycles, and who knows what other new siege for WvW that the guild halls need to be added to the core game or you are bordering on pay 2 win.

Whats the difference between this and the core game not offering the new specializations or even revenant, you going to call that pay to win also? get a grip, just buy the expansion or deal with not having certain things.

If the game is balanced properly choosing a profession or build might make you counter another players build but it won’t make you more powerful. You still have access to the same stats.

When they include something like this, “Some are superweapons and special gadgets that a single member of your guild can take out into the field. Take a Banner of the Centaur into battle to trap opponents in cages, rain arrows upon them, and give you and those nearby the ability to trample them as you stampede across the battlefield. Alternatively, become a warrior of the roads by transforming into a charr car and sizzle your opponents in your burning rubber.” and only give access to people that shell out cash, that is something you pay for to make you more powerful than people unwilling or unable to pay.

If these new buffs can be sold on the trading post there is no problem. If the guild hall/war room is part of the core game there is no problem.

If a powerful buff is being added to a game you already payed for, but the only way to get it is to pay more money, then that is a problem.

Have you EVER played a game in which an expac did not reward those that purchased it in some way shape or form? In WoW the stat creep alone was enough to force people to buy it. Do you expect a company to just give away everything for free? That won’t last long in the corporate world.

Don’t buy it, and continue playing vanilla, or buy it and enjoy the new features.

You don’t think having a new weapon/trait line per character, a whole new profession, and a(if they implemented it the way I suggested) great new way for WvW players to make money isn’t rewarding enough for the players that purchase it?

I’d argue being able to craft and sell the buffs actually rewards them much more than having to craft them to use.

I have the option right now to craft superior siege but 90% of the time I just buy it because I find crafting incredibly boring. I know I don’t want to be the one sitting in the war room wearing out my mouse button crafting the new buffs while everyone else is having fun in WvW. On the other hand some people have no problem doing this to make a little extra gold.

Think about the gold you spend leveling your crafting profession up to make ascended gear. All that time, effort and gold invested and you can’t craft and sell ascended gear to other players to make a profit. Who is that fun for?

Just to define what a trap is.
If you are putting down a trap – it needs to feel like setting one.

I personally didn’t like that traps now (before HoT changes) were literally grenade bombing abilities. It didn’t feel like a trap – it wasn’t used as a trap – it didn’t have anything in common with the term at all.

I can see some potential in them now – but mostly as a defender. That exactly is the point of trap anyways.

I really don’t like the idea of nerfing something because it doesn’t fit a theme. They should have renamed traps to something else if that was their problem with them.

No not guild halls but i think they are adding some kinda guild hut in LA so all the plebs can still access a limited amount of features. I doubt that includes the new wvw stuff as i believe you need the new war room and new crafting class to make them.

Since reading this post you have got me thinking. I have played a more then a few MMO’s. Each one i played had an Expansion Pack at some point. Every single time those that bought the new content were given access to stuff that gave them real advantages over players who did not upgrade.
Besides with Boosters and a DIRECT CURRENCY EXCHANGE this game has always been P2W in every mode except Structured PvP.

Up to this point they have always given an in game way to aquire any buffs sold on the gem store. One of their big selling points is the gem store is supposed to be cosmetic and the game won’t become pay to win.

WvW is part of the core game. That’s why the new map is being added to the core game. I feel like they are introducing powerful WvW buffs to HoT to try and push the WvW players that don’t care about the new pve maps into buying the expansion.

There’s nothing wrong with that as long as the buffs can be sold on the trading post. It would give players that buy the expansion a nice way to make gold and keep players that don’t buy it on equal footing.

Not a super class, a specialization. Atleast specializations SHOULD be in line balance wise in terms of strength.

edit: @OP you should not pre order it, wait it out and see for example youtube videos of it and then decide to buy it or not. Maybe it’ll be on sale too after you’ve done the thinking.

I like to call them super classes becuse they are kind of the other side of the sub class ideal. So not as in power but as in where the class is applied or above level 80 not the below level 80. More build chose go a long way in game types like wvw and if you wvw often with a group of ppl you should get a lot more enjoyment for something new with these added “specialization.”

Unless you main a necro, in which case you should be terribly disappointed.

I thought about that but I’d be really interested in seeing how much damage an axe/axe power build would do with 300 extra ferocity and might stacking. Right now there are very few power builds that a main hand axe is useful, this may be enough of a boost to make it an option.

Warrior Killshot also does around the same damage (even in one huge chunk, giving you an advantage over unaware enemies) on an 8 second cooldown and 1200 range, yet nobody is complaining about that one.

kitten my slow typing, you beat me by 2 min lol. But killshot is 1500 range, volley is 1200. Their ranged weapon gets 2 burst skills.

I don’t mind the buff of other skills, I truly believe Ranger can really use some. I only think that Rapid Fire is a bit too strong compared to the other skills

Compared to what other skills? Let’s compare it to another 1500 ranged skill. Warriors killshot can be made unblockable, have 100% crit chance, remove 3 conditions on hit, etc. It’s an instant spike doing more damage than rapid fire so you don’t even get the 2.5 seconds to react to it that rapid fire gives you.

If we are looking at skills by themselves without considering the entire build/class, then rapid fire looks under powered compared to similar skills.

Honed Axes/Empathic Bond Swap

I propose that these traits should swap places and be changed to the following-

Empathic Bond- Your pet attacks transfer 1 condition from you to your foe (3 sec internal cooldown)

Honed Axes- Gain 150 ferocity for each axe equipped, winters bite is an aoe attack, axe skills recharge 20% faster.

The changes to EB would make it fit nicely in the BM line, it provides synergy with poison master and encourages you to actively use your pet instead of keeping it on passive to soak up as many conditions as it can .

Honed axes in its current form is not worthy of a GM trait and it is up against 2 much more powerful choices. These changes would give back the cooldown reduction that was lost with the change to off-hand training, it would put the damage boost on the offhand axe where it makes more sense, and make axe/axe power slightly more viable.

Thoughts?

500,000 karma still doesn’t equate to ~100g per Ascended piece.

I’m not sure about that, the price of silk has really shot up lately. If you did the karma to gold conversion it would probably be pretty close.

Honestly, I dont think LB needs rapidfire.

Id be thrilled with a spreadshot.

We have that on short bow. Video games rarely do spread shots right, ours needs a massive damage boost to make it worth the risk of going point blank with a ranged weapon. Rapid fire is needed for fighting stealth classes, if they take that away they need to give us another way to counter stealth or the only viable build will be condi.

Ascended gear has been out long enough to be tradable and/or be sold for badges.

It has been out long enough for you to craft a full set as well.

Ascended is a mere 5% increase in stat allocation and the amount it takes to craft far exceeds any type of badge trade-in.

Make each piece cost something ridiculous like half a million karma. Then we’d finally have something worthwhile to spend it on.

It really dose not the motorcycle seems to be very (new BL) restricted and only in some parts of that BL even still if they where usable at all times i am not sure how that wins the person who is wvwing your still dealing with a full map of ppl and really one person even groups of ppl is not going to “win” out that week.

You seem not to understand what wvw is about its is at its hart a weekly events that has a winier base off the side who has the most points. Things like sieges and speed up alone are not going to win it and even if a person is lacking such things other ppl will have it on there world and at some level every one from that world benefits from it.

So if you get right down to it if your guild world etc.. was able to buy guilds for coverages that is a type of P2W for a wvw or rvr stand point but that is kind of how war works and is part of the grand game of it all. Not having some effects of your own is not going to changes the out come of that week even having them will also not changes the out come of that week to due to how comunitly base wvw is.

Please, I am so sick of hearing people say WvW is war and this is what happens in war. I’ve been to war, Gw2 isn’t war, it’s a kittening game.

Using your logic Anet should start selling weapons on the gemstore that are 3 times as powerful as ascended. It wouldn’t be P2W because someone on your server will end up buying the new uber weapon.

I’ll just quote what I said earlier. Just because there is counterplay to something doesn’t mean it isn’t overpowered.

There was counterplay to Perplexity runes the day they were released. Did that stop them from being the most overpowered rune set in the game? Nope. Or perhaps we could say that the bugged mesmer falling damage trait wasn’t broken, but a lack of situational awareness on the part of those who died.

The argument defending longbow rangers is that they CAN be countered, but counters don’t make something balanced (though they help). It’s about risk/reward and input/output. If someone can do tons of damage safely with no risk and little input, it needs adjusted. If rangers had all of this kill pressure, but they had to go into melee or channel for a long time or pull off a specific combo, it would be 100% fine. But right now, they don’t have to do anything. They just stand there. It’s safe. It’s effective. It’s broken.

The point is how many counter-play. Power ranger doesn’t exist in high-end pvp because they are too many “hard counters”, and they bring nothing in a group fight.

I’ve clearly been talking about WvW in every single post I’ve made. Longbow rangers can’t sit in zergs in sPvP so they can actually be punished by their counters. In WvW, they just sit behind 30 people and push 1 (and occasionally 2) while doing the same or more damage than other classes with no risk or skill. They’re not played in sPvP because they’re not broken there. They see tons of play in WvW because they’re hideously overpowered in large groups.

If rangers are being allowed to free fire than your zerg is pretty crappy, send someone to deal with them or get your own rangers to focus theirs.

the changes shouldnt effect the use of trapper runes in anyway as you’ll still gain stealth on cast as it is now.

That’s not entirely true. Frost trap will reveal you if triggered, and it’s going to be a lot harder to hide in stealth since you can’t throw the traps off to the side anymore.

I really wish they were doing a better job of trying to balance things with these upcoming trait changes instead of trying to fit them into some thematic element.

I never said a necro is helpless against a ranger, I said it is an extremely difficult fight. Just like condi anything vs a condi necro is an extremely hard fight. There are build in this game that completely counter others when played at the same skill level.

Every fight against a non potato is extremely difficult – that’s why wvw is so good.

The fight would have likely ended with the ranger winning if no condi gear was involved even though the ranger was mediocre at best. He built around trying to hide in stealth and continued to play like that instead of being aggressive. The problem with that is he was letting himself get loaded up with condi’s before hiding in stealth so he was taking a lot of damage while the necro was taking none.

Then do me a favour, make some videos and show us how you play.

The ranger made a lot of mistakes and let the necro completely outplay him, and it was still an extremely close fight.

I said nothing else- we can analyze this more if entangeled is “OP”, if rapidfire is OP, if being able to stealth while having the skill to deny other classes to stealth is “OP” or if death shroud is “OP”, if the condis are “OP” (base condis), then also if condis are “OP” in general – point is: both of them have equal chances to win this fight.

They don’t have equal chances.

Ranger vs thieves have equal chances. Ranger’s have good burst and counters to stealth, and thieves have counters to range and projectiles.

A necro has limited ways to counter a rangers CC’s and close the gap. They can win by outplaying a ranger but outplaying isn’t the same as having an equal chance.

It’s like saying a thief has an equal chance to kill an engi (especially after the new RIP stealth trait they are getting). It’s not going to be impossible for a thief but the engi definitely has the advantage.

And what good would that have done? If they can’t win when they outnumber the opponents, won’t focus targets, what are the odds we would win 5v5? Even if we did that would have been it for the match. They hadn’t even managed to decap the point. If I left the 2 players alone that I was keeping busy 1 of them would have recapped far and the enemy would still have 2 points.

My best option was to keep the 2 players at mid tied up, kill anyone that tried for far(the one point we had), and hope my team could take home. If they did that we would have had them 2 capped and could have either held that or tried for mid.
