There’s a lot of things good about warrior— too many to post in one forum reply!

My favorite part about it is how it’s refreshingly intuitive by comparison with some other classes. While some may find it to be boring, others will find it to be comfortable.

The thing about warrior is that it’s easy to play, but difficult to master. It is the strongest offensive buffer in the game and also one of the strongest classes damage-wise in a solo setting.

I don’t want anything about magnetic aura changing other than it stacking duration. Currently if two eles using powerful auras trait both activate magnetic aura, the duration of it does not stack like the other ones do.

Which dulfy guides are you referring to?

I’m the current author of both the guides for elementalists and warriors, so if you see a typo or incorrect information you can feel free to confront me about it on either the guide comment section itself or through ingame mail or whatever.

We write these guides with the intention of them being as good as we can manage to but we’re only human and mistakes do happen.

That said, I’m not seeing ill-advised potion suggestions in either of my guides.

Ok basically the point I was trying to make is similar to what Wethospu said, but instead of it having to do with solo DPS I just think if you want to compare DPS between the classes you should use their optimal damage builds for comparison.

Even if you don’t play warrior or guardian or mesmer in dungeons for their maximum DPS setups, there’s no point in comparing optimal setups from some classes with suboptimal setups from other classes and then ranking them for damage output.

If not, then you would take Heightened Focus instead of Burst Mastery. One other thing to mention though is that obviously this would be assuming that the warrior is getting buffs from another warrior in the group to make use of this setup, which means the banner in this link is redundant. It just so happens to be the case that everything else is too lol.

Aww sadly I am not active like I used to be last year! For the first half of 2014 I would solo and sell Arah all the time with no competition at all, averaging between 50-100g a day with just a few hours of casual soloing.

I don’t think I’ll ever have free time like that again, and back then I was still trying to get better. I don’t really have anything to do right now so I usually just sit around in LA sadly, I need motivational help!xD

No worries I know you have good intentions, I was just speaking my mind about something because out of all classes in the june specializations update, warrior was one of the ones that got buffed to the highest extremes. It was in a rough spot as far as personal damage was concerned but now it’s quite high. It’s just that people are comparing the personal DPS of a build that is not optimising personal damage.

Guardians aren’t really all that good for personal damage though… they’re not bad, but they’re not superb either. In groups both guardians and warriors are taking setups that offer the group specific things for the sole purpose of either offensively or defensively supporting allies.

If you want to compare personal DPS, why not compare with their maximum damage output setups?

It just so happens to be the case that the difference between warrior’s maximum damage setup and its standard phalanx build variations that it takes for groups is quite huge. We’re talking difference of being able to weapon swap, being able to use eviscerate, being able to take either burst mastery or heightened focus, having a 5% damage increase from the 6th rune bonus swapping from strength to scholar runes, and gaining an additional 100 ferocity from scholar as well as an additional 180 power from signet of might.

These things are of course, assuming the same party buffs that all the other classes are getting when comparing DPS in parties.

You should try changing the way you’re connected— how are you connected? Are you wireless? Are you hardwired to your modem?

As a last resort, consider trying a VPN. Your internet doesn’t appear to be the problem, it’s just the way you’re being routed to the ncsoft servers.

Basically the best tip that I can give you is that you should try to alter your connection like I did if at all possible and see if you’re routed differently. If you’re already hardwired to your modem then there’s not much else you can do other than a VPN, and in regards to those…

My personal experience is that free ones are just garbage. They’re free for a reason. It might be possible to get actual good free VPNs but all of the ones I’ve tried thus far have been trash.

Use a VPN as a last resort imo, and if you do decide to meddle with them I can tell you right away that the most popular one (WTFast) is a definite scam, stay away from it.

I’ve cleared all my game’s cache and completely deleted everything GW2 related and reinstalled and while it made it slightly faster, it only lasted about a day before it got slow as hell again.

There are other ways to goat into it but they either involve void jumping or more difficult goating methods.

I’m absolutely certain that a warrior running scholar runes using strength/arms/discipline instead of tactics and with burst mastery (assuming quickness is outsourced) would decimate power guardian in personal DPS.

Anyways, it’s kinda weird to make personal DPS rankings because there are so many things to take into consideration. DPS in a solo or group setting? Against something basic like a test golem, or what?

If so you’re right, that is more of a max level damage optimisation sort of build that I offer.

For leveling what I suggest is that you get accustomed to GS and sword/warhorn as your secondary set, but I suggest you basically stick with GS when it comes to combat. If you want to swap weapons during combat then make sure you swap that sword for an axe main hand because it’s a lot better for damage than sword is.

The reason sword and warhorn are good is because when you’re leveling up, you will do it most efficiently if you travel faster. Sword has a leap, warhorn helps you maintain swiftness, and GS has two movement skills.

In PvE… I basically run the Phalanx Strength (fast hands variant) 90% of the time on my warrior. The only times I don’t boils down to Grawl/Mai Trin in fractals, or another equal or better warrior in my party that is running the meta build (and can keep 15-20 stacks of might up). When another Phalanx Warrior is present, I run a slight variant of the build below.

Not trying to start an off topic tangent here, but if you’re in a group you absolutely should run phalanx strength still but if you feel more comfortable doing so, run it with a fast hands variant. This applies to low man situations when you’re with 1-2 others as well and also for encounters like imbued shaman in pugs where people spread out all the time. Even if not everybody in the group is sticking close enough to benefit from the buffs you provide, it’s worth it as long as it applies to at least one person.

It’s why I think that metabattle is a pretty bad website to give to inexperienced players in my opinion because for example with that link, a lot of newer players will interpret it as “oh you need to use strength/arms/tactics and use GS + axe/mace”

You can be effective there if you take strength/discipline/tactics [fast hand variant] exactly how you said, but I mean… you can also take a sword offhand with an energy sigil instead of a mace if you feel it necessary.

Builds shown on websites/guides are intended to be templates for demonstrating on what would be optimal in an ideal circumstance, so it’s up to the player to know when certain things need to be tweaked according to what’s needed in a group or an encounter or on an individual basis.

Considering I’ve probably streamed myself doing it over 30 times maybe on different occasions, I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that they’re probably doing something different that they aren’t letting you know about to get a ban.

Also what a lot of people don’t seem to understand is that when you’re banned on this game… unless it’s a manual ban from a GM, it’s probably for something you did weeks ago (or months, who knows how backed up they get).

If a GM has the time to kill to log in and spy on people in instances to ban them, they’re not gonna sit around waiting outside of AC and look at some guy thinking “Ooh I bet this guy’s gonna exploit. Gonna sneak up on him and teach him a lesson.”

They join from LFG posts more than likely, because you have to keep in mind how if you were in their position and had limited time to spend doing this, where else would you look?

So what’s most likely is that whoever you’re talking about that got banned from a GM was, they were probably trying to sell the exploited instance. That’s where they care— if you do what I did and just do it for yourself or casually with friends/guildmates rather than selling the paths, they aren’t gonna freak out if you do an AC 3-in-1 nor will they care if you jump around the map like a goat or whatever it is that you feel like doing because it affects absolutely nobody.

Yeah he just resurrects any of the corpses around him as long as they’re within the white ring that appears during his resurrect skill.

Also when you kill an elite gorilla that’s been revived or if you run out of range for it to despawn, the corpse will respawn in any location throughout that vast area (starts and ends at around the same points you see spiders when running to the last boss of p1).

The resurrect skill from Korga doesn’t work based off of LoS; it simply revives any corpse that’s within the ring. You can rush completely out of range right when he begins the skill so that when he finishes, he stands still in combat stance for about 5 or so seconds (or whatever it takes for him to get bored and reset) and once he deaggros, the elite gorillas will despawn.

EDIT: Eh you were talking about LoS though so okay, if you stand behind a wall but still within aggro range of Korga, then the adds will still spawn— they always do. They will just run around the wall before attacking, like all other mobs.

Hey guys, they can’t do anything about this because they don’t control the way you’re routed to their servers. Basically the only thing you can do is try to get in touch with your ISP, have them send in a ticket to level3, and hope something gets done. I’ve had two support tickets sent in for me on my behalf and noticed nothing so I’m guessing it’s one of those companies that nothing will get done unless a mob of complaints swarms them… so try it!

My work-around to the problem was going for an ethernet connection between my laptop and the modem. When I do this as opposed to hard wiring to the netgear router we have, it routes me through telia instead of level3. Hopefully this helps some of ya.

I would have banned the people doing this a while ago temporarily (3-7 days) and then fixed the problem if I actually had the ability to do so. The only reason this isn’t fixed is a combination of both being unaware of it and having too many other things of higher importance to do. It’s not like they decided to let people fight the boss like this, it’s just that they aren’t willing to allocate ANY of their attention towards it. It’s sad, but it’s the only reason why dungeon related bugs never get attention.

It’s a change that happened as a result of something backend. It’s the same reason why the wolves st mossman spawn at that specific point now. I’m not entirely sure it is an accident that these changes took place however.

Guess it’s a good thing I don’t really solo anymore :P

I don’t normally get complaints on the odd occasion I join pug groups… at least these days, they’re almost always dead silent until the end when they say “ty cya” and leave.

But in a dredge fractal a day or two ago, everybody managed to wipe in the room with the two pads and panel but me cause I was the one that teled up to open the door on my ele, so I was running back down and couldn’t get through the door cause one of em died on the pads inside.

Well, when I ran ooc I was still inside the area, so I figured they would just stealth and run through instead of being weirdos and wasting their time having someone run all the way up to open first gate.

Thief kept insisting it’d be faster for them to do that so he could use shortbow to port up. Nobody else in the group would have been able to do the panel with stealth…

When I tried explaining that to him he said some smart alec comment like “you wanna leave the group?”

Told him something like “a little bit, but I’d rather you actually use logic in your decision making instead and pay attention for once?” and he ended up apologising to me later on and blaming the skill level of some of the others in the group somehow making it impossible to do what I suggested. Took me offguard, really makes no sense how that excused his weirdness because there was literally nothing for them to do other than run into the room after I open it.

Also for some reason this guy felt like swapping to his thief for this fractal yet they killed like, all the dredge at the start before the first gate.

The graphics card isn’t that bad, but you’re not going to have a good time with only 4 GB RAM and if you don’t look for a better processor than that.

The thing is with this game, you don’t really need that great of a graphics card to be able to run max settings. What matters the most is both your internet connection and processor, but you need to understand that generally speaking 4 GB RAM is not sufficient for gaming. It’s fine for everyday use and if you don’t plan to have anything else open besides the game, but you will for example never be able to livestream, never be able to render a video in high settings, and probably notice performance drops if you have many things open at once. I wouldn’t go anywhere lower than 8 GB for RAM, period.

If you’re looking into getting the best laptops available and to play GW2 on higher settings, look at Asus only in my opinion. You can’t cheap out on laptops to be honest with you, and it’s not worth bothering to even try building your own unless you know exactly what you’re doing and even then they still will cost a ton.

The damage of the skill is not low at all, it’s one of the highest damage available to the warrior in PvP. I’ve hit up to 14k with it already, don’t know why you’d say this is low.

Because it’s channeled… autoattacking deals more damage than it.

If you’re using the skill for its damage, you’re doing it wrong. Its only use comes from building adrenaline if for whatever reason no other method of doing so is available. I don’t really feel that tagging mobs is a good enough reason to call it a useful weapon since it’s not like it is very difficult to gain event credit without it, but some people seem to like it for that as well.

I think we should just get more blooms. I’d say doing this event 10 times should be sufficient enough to get the selfless potion, not 25+…

Thief isn’t even best to take for a lot of the fractals, yet that doesn’t stop pugs from demanding them all the time for pretty much no reason.

Sometimes it would legitimately be more useful to take a third ele or an engi and sometimes guard is pointless. Mesmer has the potential to be better a lot of the time anyways.

If you’re playing with people that are good players, then you won’t notice a tremendous difference in speed when people swap to classes like necro/ranger for the hell of it. If you need specific utilities to make a run smooth then that’s another story, but sometimes a fractal/dungeon doesn’t need anything. So what gives? Why are people always taking 2 ele/1 guard/1 warr/1 thief?

The answer is because they’re misinformed. They don’t know any better.

And as far as pugs are concerned, picking guard/warr/ele/thief all the time doesn’t guarantee good runs. Just because someone plays a staff ele with fire/air/water and equips glyph of storms and ice bow doesn’t mean they will be good. 99% of the time I see eles never swap traits, even in records let alone pugs, and never swap to arcane even though it sometimes actually is better damage. Same applies to all other classes, if you aren’t constantly taking advantage of being OOC and trying to be efficient on a micro level then what guarantees that you’re doing better than a potential ranger or necro who is actually min/maxing?

Basically the point is, you can’t guarantee fast runs by being elitist on the LFG because you’re playing with strangers. That said, I know right away when I see people being super elitist with their LFG ads that it’s just not going to be fun. I’m going to most likely be paired up with people that think they’re super cool and whine whenever somebody doesn’t conform to their standards. So much of the time these standards are only revolved around gear rather than skill, which is obnoxious to the point where I don’t want to be around them.

And as Wethospu’s stated several times on both reddit and the forums, waiting around until people pick the exact classes you want is more often than not a lot slower than just beginning with whatever you get.

Problem is it’s a combination of bad play from both your perspective and theirs. Just because you were the last one to go down does not mean that you did a better job than they did, you need to understand that.

However, if they’re repeatedly wiping and blaming you that means they’re just idiots. Either way it’s really frustrating to see a ranger camping longbow. It’s not a weapon that helps groups… you need to understand that if you’re playing selfishly when your other teammates aren’t then that’s considered rude. Everybody around here these days knows your setup is suboptimal and it’s of course going to bother a lot of people.

That said, that doesn’t really excuse the elitism from pugs. I agree that pugs are pathetic for demanding 2 ele/1 thief/1 guard/1 warrior all the time and to be quite frank with you I never play with the people that post LFG ads asking for this because to me, those are just wannabes/tryhards. It’s not the best class comp all of the time, in fact it’s rare for it to be.

Why don’t you just do what I do and avoid groups exhibiting elitism? It’s a simple painless solution. You can’t force people to stop being stupid, you know.

Using fire #4 on staff ele is funny, you get teleported back and forward until the server makes up its mind where you should actually be.

This is a direct consequence of packet loss and high latency.

Even if your ping is low, you’ll still rubberband tremendously if you’re getting high packet loss on any hop, so you should still run a pingplotter test to determine where the connection fails.

Are you trying a VPN?

The problem is likely because of the way you’re being routed to the ncsoft servers, not your actual internet connection from your ISP. It’s definitely not anet’s servers themselves that are the issue because then the rest of us would have extreme problems too.

Try a few VPNs and see if it changes anything. You also need to determine the source of the lag, so for right now do this:

a) get pingplotter (free edition)
b) ingame, type /ip
c) copy and paste that IP address into pingplotter then click on the button to run the test
d) take screenshot of results and paste here (blur out the first few hop names if you want to hide your public IP address)

The short answer is it’s just not that good. It has very situational use and due to it dealing lower damage than autoattacks on 3 or less targets it makes it an unattractive skill to use. If an offhand is going to offer no defensive utility, it should be pretty darn powerful offensively.

Yeah you need to pay a ton of money to have a laptop that will run games well, but in the end you are basically always taking a performance loss comparatively to desktop counterparts.

Anyways, as for what you said… while that processor isn’t exactly bad, it’s kind of “meh” these days. 2.5ghz clockspeed isn’t too bad and should be able to run GW2 well enough but I suggest you read FlamingFoxx’s post above for a detailed explanation as to why no matter how hard you try you’re going to have lower performance results.

Generally speaking, laptops are usually worse for gaming but in addition to that so are macs. That doesn’t mean you absolutely can’t play them, but what it means is that you’re kind of shooting yourself in the foot in multiple different ways. Even if you buy the best macbook out there you’re still going to be having issues while having paid more.

I will admit that I haven’t really bothered playing condi builds that much but it’s for the reasons OP mentioned. The playstyle itself seems significantly more passive for some classes or in general just feels like it’s stronger than it should be.

I obviously don’t share the opinion of the majority though since quite a lot of people seem to really enjoy it.

The problem is that laptops themselves are horrible for gaming (source, I use one) but by forcing yourself to only use a macbook for it is just asking for trouble :/

What I can tell you is that you need to have a powerful CPU to have an acceptable framerate on GW2. If you have a low end graphics card you can make do with lower graphic settings ingame and still get an acceptable framerate but otherwise they aren’t that important.

Whatever you decide to do, just prioritise the processor.
