I didn’t buy a 3 year access I paid for permanent access to game that requires purchase to play. GW2 is no longer B2P it’s FTP, HoT is B2P (for now).
You paid for ongoing access to GW2.
You have that.
I paid for a key to door which is longer locked
Would you have rather waited 3 years for someone to unlock the door for you so you could experience what was on the other side?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
This was our (reward? Bribe? Pacifier?) for paying money for the game that is now free? It’s a decent outfit not something I would’ve purchased or am likely to use but thanks for the gesture.
No the reward was all the memories you’ve had through 40 content updates for FREE.. This was just the cherry on top.
Nothing was free I paid to play
I’m going to assume you’re the type of person who probably has around 4000 total hours played.
So for every dollar you spent on the core game (assuming $60 at launch) you got nearly 67 hours of entertainment. To expect Anet to give you anything at all as compensation is absurd.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Sword’s combo is only as fast as running with Swiftness.
Count only the greatsword’s Leap (Swoop).Nope, we are pretty immobile. Your subject would be Eles and Guardians.
Those who are best at everything, naturally.
Guardians and mobility are two words that don’t belong together in the same sentence.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
A thief can infiltrator’s arrow something like 5 times in a row if he’s traited for it.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Everyone will try it in a PS/Thief/Guard/2 Eles party (x2) and if it doesn’t work they’ll swap the guardian’s build to something more tanky or more supportive. Mesmer to portal everyone out of oneshot aoe maybe?
You only need one Thief. Only need one guard. Might only need one warrior depending on how they do buff sharing. Chronomancer is definitely worth a spot. If buff sharing goes to 10 Ranger and Necro will be worth a spot.
Engineer, oddly enough, seems like it would be in the worst spot since 10 people can passively keep 25 vuln up and engie has no real team buffs.
Depending on how the encounters are designed, engineers could maybe be taken purely for their dps.
Especially if one or more of the bosses has mordrem husk mechanics i.e. massive toughness.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
difficult, not insane. Already saw similar tools on bosses in other games
None of the things you suggested are fun or interesting game mechanics. Instant party wipe because one player wasn’t watching his DPS meter closely enough? No thanks.
We’ve already experienced permanent retaliation with mordrem wolves. Guess what happened there? (Hint: they no longer have retaliation at all).
-BnooMaGoo.5690
or you kite the boss, dodge roll, CC.
Breakbar on a ranged boss. Also I’m sure there is a breakbar in that phase, so you need to cc+survive, or wipe.
The CC is likely necessary so the rest of your group can attack the wall at the edge of the arena without getting wiped by smaller AoEs. Depending how long the defiant bar takes to break, I’d say one or two thieves specced for CC could handle it easily.

I absolutely hate this change, and I can not express amount of my hate toward ANET’s policy tonight and toward this specific free-to-play change.
I haven’t expected this announcement to be so fkd up and devastating.
But ANET did it like they always do.This means GW2 failed as mmo, as any other that switched to F2P policy shortly after(TERA, TESO etc…). It failed because there was no end-game content in the time to entertain us vetarns, but there where made unnecessary changes to whats not broken(TP, NPE, STORY CHANGES, INVENTORY, UI).
This means that developers will receive less money hence new players will be 10 year old whining kids that will resent everyone around and poison the community.
I, who played GW2 since the very start, for 3 YEARS AND INVESTED QUITE AMOUNT OF TIME AND REAL MONEY INTO GW2 ADDITIONALLY , only to get ugly looking skin on my charr(which has worst armors out there) and middle finger in my face saying:
THANK YOU FOR INVESTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY IN US, ALL WE CAN DO IS GIVE YOU THIS SKIN. NO GEMS, NO SPECIAL ITEMS NOR ABILITY TO DECIDE WHAT I COULD CHOSE AS 3YEARS OLD GIFT + VETERANSHIP.
But hey, thanks for your money. Thank you for buying infinite SAB coin that you will never use again. Because you guys bought this game we decided to make it FREE TO PLAY so 10 year olds could join. Lets not make it even 10, no, 5 bucks. But nope, NO refunds or kitten given whatsoever.
We can expect much more toxic community , economy fall and above and community driven by 10 year olds. Thanks ANET.
DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW I FEEL AFTER 3 YEARS OF LOVE WITH THIS GAME?
I feel so betrayed. So brutally FUC**D. All this love toward this game.. all gone….
TL;DR: Just another ex-fan that feels fkd by latest change of ANET. RIP GW2, you will be missed.
Would you like some fries with that salt?
To be fair, I bought the infinite continue coin too. But I don’t think GW2 going free to play has anything to do with Anet trying to screw you over as an individual.

If people can solo scale 50 fractals in full zerker/sinister gear, I doubt raids will cause the zerker meta to change.
Very few people can do it, in very specific fractals and with very specific builds. Also taking ages.
I can’t think of a fractal that can’t be soloed.
Edit: what I mean is, unless anet adds some sort of vit/toughness check in the form unmitigated damage (cannot be dodged, ignores block/invulnerability etc.) to their raid boss mechanics, people will still be drawn to zerker gear so they can finish this new content as fast as possible.

The best dps food is seaweed salad. This applies to all classes unless you get rooted a lot mid combat (ele with meteor shower and ice storm).
But each class is different. Warrior is using phalanx so they would often use food that supplements that. Thief rarely needs precision but they might be using ice storm a lot so they would use sweet and spicy butternut squash soup over salad a lot of the time.
We have pretty extensive food info on the dulfy class guides if that helps. :P
Rangers have to be rooted to output their absolute highest DPS. So much for the seaweed salad.

I’ve always felt like T6 crafting bags for 1 laurel was kind of exploity anyway, given how easy laurels are to acquire. I fee like each tier of crafting bag should cost one laurel more than the previous tier, i.e 7 laurels for one T6 crafting bag.
That’s why the T6 bags give far fewer materials than the lower level bags.
But those materials are disproportionately more valuable than the ones from lower level bags.

I hope the rifle precursor tanks, so I can finally get it. Yeah, rifle sucks, but I still love it for PvE on my warrior. Cause sometimes, you just need to shoot stuff from really, really far away :p

Revenant will be better at taunting.
No, they won’t…
They get a “Shared Anguish” trait that has 3s on kitten CD and a 2s single target taunt in Jalis stance that costs 1/2 their energy.
We get a 240 range 5 target taunt for 2s every 15s. Clearly superior.
Jalis is a superior option on a single target (like bosses, who matter most), energy is a non-issue in that scenario. I won’t be using taunt on pet since you want to run jaguars not to gut dps, and asking your jaguar to taunt 5 mobs is a pretty good way to get him killed.
I bet you’re a lot of fun at parties.
We all know how much you hate the ranger profession. But this shooting down of every positive aspect someone comes up with has to stop. I almost feel like you’re just trolling at this point.
If you get this offended over a videogame I wouldn’t want you in my parties either. You remind me of those people that go rabid should someone criticize their prized tv show.
I main ranger, so I actually voice criticism in hopes of improvement, where all you do is apply some positive spin that leaves the class as the red headed step child of every format.
Every time someone comes up with something positive to say about rangers, you jump in and spout something about “<insert profession> does that thing better.” I’m not necessarily offended, but I’m not seeing how that kind of criticism could be constructive.
How could it not be constructive, it drives the point home that what the ranger has is NOT ENOUGH to make him meta and that changes must be made to grant him something he excels at over other classes that is desirable in organized group content and not just duels/1v1 roaming.
Tell me why I should be happy at the state of a class when playing my warrior/elementalist/thief/guardian I’ve never encountered a single LFG saying “NO WARRIOR/ELE/GUARD/THIEF, LF ranger and necromancer”. Or why most WvW GvG’s make so little use of rangers let alone why a kitten elementalist is better at ranged damage and aoe over a ranger considering the elementalist brings so much utility.
You would think classes high on utility would bring less damage and aoe, but some classes seem like they have it all and that’s something to be annoyed about.
I think the root of the problem lies not with the ranger, but with the content itself, and with eles and might stacking being too powerful. Elementalists and their icebow need to be toned down to a more acceptable level, and might stacking also needs to get the nerf bat. 25 stacks of might should be achievable, but not maintainable.
I’m not saying the ranger doesn’t have room for improvement. But the ranger is, in my opinion, a very well balanced profession. It’s just that elementalists and warriors are currently overtuned, to the point that everything the ranger is good at is rendered obsolete.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I fully pugged a 50 for the first time in a while, and it was horrible. Two Russians who were from the same guild gearchecking and going on about meta this, meta that, when they couldn’t keep themselves alive or do much damage. The warrior spent so much time linking defiance to our thief – because apparently all he wanted him to do was spam pistol skills to get stacks off – that he rarely got above 15 stacks of might generated. There was some guardian who instadied all the time, no idea what build he had, but he was very poor with blocks.
The two Russians then said “brb” at one point, then took 10 minutes to come back, by which point the other guys went afk. The run lasted 1.5hrs, and was generally god-awful. The worst thing is that i might have to pug more runs for a while, so this might be a common thing for a while. I’m used to 30-45min runs, not 1.5hrs
I’d probably do more fractals if I could get some 30-45 minute runs, but I’ve been in dungeon/raid guilds in other MMOs and they tend to be pretty volatile places, so I’ve stayed away from them in GW2. Unfortunately, pugging is my only option.

Dodging is incredibly forgiving in GW2. In my opinion, evade frames on dodges should be less than they currently are…maybe 0.2 seconds instead of a full second.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
My ranger has never had an issue with stability in PvE, but perhaps that’s because Rampage as One (take that anet) pulses stability for its duration.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
They still need to make pet names permanent.
That has gone unfinished since launch.
That’s fixed. Tested myself with We Todd Ed jungle stalker.
Doesn’t seem to be the case for me. Did you perhaps have the Jungle Stalker slotted into your Aquatic Pet slots?
Unfortunately, I would imagine that they have no system in place for remembering the names of unslotted pets. Making a system for it would take manhours, not to mention that the names would have to be stored either on ArenaNet’s own servers (which could add up in regards to filesize and data transfer, though admittedly not very much) or on the client’s computer (which could, potentially, open things up to abuse in the case of particularly clever individuals). As much as I’d love to have all of my pets’ names saved, I don’t foresee it ever happening.
Would delight in being proven wrong, though.
After 3 years, I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I play a warrior and I absolutely detest my greatsword 5 rush attack. It’s clunky, slow, and it stops my character at an awkward spot to land a hit, but today I decided to make a ranger and the greatsword gap closer (the hawk attack) is amazing: it’s smooth, precise, does exactly what I want it to do, doesn’t run past my target half the time like the warrior one does, and doesn’t pause to attack after charging.
Please remake warrior greatsword 5 so that it functions the same way. Warrior GS 5 is clunk incarnate
Just don’t use swoop on any sort of incline. Your character will stop mid skill, like they suddenly forgot what they were doing, and then suddenly remember and finish swooping.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I play full zerker, and often find myself to be the last person alive in dungeons and even high level fractals (when I get a bad pug). Surviving isn’t about what gear you’re wearing, it’s about how well you can play your profession.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The Leap Finisher is on the 2nd part of the skill, same as the Evade.
Which means if you start Swoop while standing inside a field, there is a good chance you will run out of it before using the Leap Finishing, so you get nothing.
Maybe Swoop should simply get the double Leap Finisher back, or the Leap Finisher should be on the first part of the skill rather than on the second part.
As much as I loved the double leap, it was too strong with quick draw. Quick draw allowed you to double leap your water field, giving you 4 leap finisher heals.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I would have sworn swoop was meant to have a double leap since it is a 2 part skill….
Still even if it wasn’t why was this prioritized over the other 40ish bugs plaguing the ranger?
That’s always been anet’s MO regarding the ranger. Fix the beneficial bugs first, leave the detrimental ones for last. The swoop bug was seemingly an exception to the rule for 3 years.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The 2nd IS $250 better IF you plan on playing anything else that’s a bit more demanding GPU wise or if you like to use the laptop for watching videos and other multimedia stuff. If it’s only about GW2, I’d stick to the first one, since the 940m GPU is roughly as good as the GTX660m I use (and most things run fine on high), the CPU’s are pretty close together and, which is quite important, has the much smaller native resolution. You can check and compare CPUs/GPUs here if you want to.
Another thing to keep in mind- both laptops have pretty slow HDDs built in, your loading times ingame will probably quite long.
Besides some QoL things like the keyboard, you should worry more about stuff like cooling and maintenance possibilities, since those are the things that mostly affect your gameing experience and the longlivity of you laptop.I’ve never given laptop cooling or maintenance much thought, though I’ve never had a laptop overheat or fail on me. Keyboards are much more than a quality of life thing. Extended periods of gaming on small, uncomfortable laptop keyboards can lead to severe hand cramps, and worse, long term nerve damage.
Well, since you seem to be content with a $400 wallmart machine, I assume you don’t play that much on a laptop at all, so I’m not surprised that you never had any heating issues or such. But be asured, if you consider computer games as a hobby and play for several hours if you have the spare time for it, heating becomes something to think about. Being able to clean the fan(s) without breaking warranty seals and without having to disassemble half of the laptop is golden.
And I really don’t get that keyboard problem. I play exclusively on laptops for 11 years now, rpg’s, sports games, fps, strategy games, and I don’t have any problems with my hands or wrists. Still I can imagine this would be different if I already had somekind of previous illnesses concerning my hands or if I’d used something below 15,6", but let’s be honest- if you intend to play on a laptop more than 15-30 min a day or type a lot, you won’t go sub 15,6".
I’ve played for many hours on that laptop, with no heating issues whatsoever. Sometimes spending entire weekends away from home, gaming 5+hours a day. The keyboard is absolute trash though. I wind up getting hand cramps and have to take 5 minute breaks every 30 minutes or so. Let’s just say I’ve never found a laptop that had a keyboard I actually found comfortable to use.
Spacing between the keys is also an issue for me. The keys on my laptop are completely flat and spaced very closely together, which causes me to frequently hit the wrong keys, or hit multiple keys at once.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
(edited by Quarktastic.1027)
I don’t have this issue. Are you playing on a phone or something?
Have you ever tried to melee mossman with one or more guardians in your party? If you’re telling me you can still see all of his tells through the constant wall of blue fire, you’re a bold faced liar. Most of the time, I can’t even see which direction the boss is facing. One moment you think you’re safely behind the boss…the next you take an axe to the face because you didn’t see him turn around.
Also, on the topic of champion icebrood wolves, they actually have not one, but two devastating attacks with no tell. The first is the frost nova, the second is a crippling lunge that hits twice. All icebrood wolves actually use the lunge, and no tells for any of them.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
If you remove that PS warrior from you party, you will see a very noticeable drop in DPS regardless if you have 2 or 3 eles with icebows. The damage is just not there if you don’t combine it with damage multipliers from might, banners and traits that warriors has.
PvE and dungeons specific has a few core roles which need to be filled in order to do content fast. You need at minimum one warrior for DPS modifiers. One guardian for reflects and stability. One thief for stealth and skipping content. One OR Two eles for base DPS and fill out the party.
Remove any one of the specific roles and PvE content slows down. There have been many times where I or a party member switched from ele because the party lacked a warrior or thief or guardian, and each time we do so mid dungeon/fractal run it is imminently noticeable.
The eles start the party at 25 might with blasts and warriors don’t do that so they’re not very relevant for the ice bow burst. The banners are relevant but even without banners ice bow is ridiculous.
A warrior with both banners and empower allies will increase a group’s overall DPS by about 25%, not including might.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Spvp and dailies for tomes of knowledge. You can also purchase spirit shards directly with fractal relics. Daily achievements on their own give 3 shards.
I actually feel like spirit shards are now a viable currency, instead of being Karma 2.0.

never played dwarf fortress but from the sounds of it, i can get all the mats needed to finally craft an ascended weapon, hit the button, and it spits out an exotic instead? If that’s the case, that sounds like an awful experience. In gw2, crafting isn’t really about making stuff to sell, but instead making stuff for yourself which is especially useful if you tend to experiment a lot with different builds, get cool skins, etc. If the entire idea of crafting in gw2 started out completely differently when the game was made, then maybe…but implementing it into gw2 as it currently is would be crushing to people.
I’ve never played dwarf fortress either, but I’ve played games where RNG crafting is a thing. It’s terrible and should be universally hated, but some people enjoy that kind of thing.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
GW1 pet UI was functionally worse than GW2s pet UI. I don’t see why Anet would do this. The only thing it did better, was show buffs/debuffs on the pet without having to target the pet (and being able to target the pet by clicking its health bar, which is largely unnecessary in GW2)
Personally, I feel like a pet UI overhaul is needed, but unlikely to happen. I would like to see some simple quality of life improvements for pets first. Namely, a larger attack radius, to more easily hit moving targets, and food/utility buff sharing (pets really should get the benefits of any consumable buff the ranger uses as baseline.)
-BnooMaGoo.5690
My $400 wal-mart special laptop with integrated graphics and a 2.8g processor runs GW2…with potato graphics and poor FPS, but it’s playable. Both of those laptops look like they would run GW2 at max or close to max settings easily.
I would argue that keyboard quality is the most important factor in choosing a gaming laptop (unless you opt to purchase a separate keyboard, but then portability becomes an issue, as most “travel” keyboards are worse than the laptop keyboards they’re meant to replace) You’re also going to want a good travel mouse, because playing GW2 with the touchpad is extremely uncomfortable.
Keyboards/keypads are, unfortunately, not something you can really compare through the internet.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The main reason I can think of for having multiples of the same class is for using different builds without having to change around everything on your current character.
Pretty much this.
I love my berserker ranger, but if I wanted to try a sinister condi build, I would have to carry around a whole extra set of armor and weapons, and change all my traits and skills. I feel like it would be much simpler to just change characters.

See this is why Anet undertones the Elite Specialization in their first beta. The Warrior Elite Specialization hasnt been played yet and people already calling for nerfs. Then when it comes out and people try it, they find out its pretty weak….
I’m calling it right now: The ranger spec reveal will be super underwhelming, everyone will laugh at how weak it looks. Then when people try it, it will be even weaker than they expected.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Because developers were classifying all the skills with no category.
And this forum was just kind of over-flooded by people who wanted Healing Spring to become a trap.So thinking that we received just what vast majority asked for – I don’t see any slightest possibility of getting our good Healing Spring back.
The skill is not that bad. It’s definitely twice as buggy and twice as clunky as it ever was… But it has it’s uses. Having it on 24sec CD and being able to pre-set it has it’s pros.
If you are able to have 1 set and your CD refreshes, you are able to cleanse 12 condis in 10 seconds in AoE. That’s not half bad. You’ll get into a situation like this only once out of 10 times… But hey, we got what we wanted right?
My problem with it is the arming time. Too many times have I placed my healing spring, and tried to blast/leap it only for nothing to happen, because I didn’t wait long enough for the water field to pop up.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Here’s something you could try: switch your ranger to a greatsword, or sword + offhand and use DPS pets like cats and birds.
This is basically what my ranger does.
She melts mordrem teragriffs (both kinds) and thrashers (both kinds) without breaking a sweat. My guardian gets trounced hardily by most mordrem (except husks).
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Rather than delete the character, you’re probably best off buying a new character slot. That way you can use the original character as a mule, where the extra bag will at least do some good (the birthday rewards are not too shabby either – the 20 level exp scroll is basically a free black lion key). And who knows, maybe in the future you may decide to play the character again, or Anet may decide to make bag slot expansions account-wide.
I agree with everything in this post.
I normally wouldn’t even buy bag slots, as they are the worst cost per slot investment currently. But I wound up buying the account jump start thing because of the 45% off deal.
