I agree. Warriors also get rifles, which are awesome.

I do like the versatility of the engineer though…and they also get rifles.

Rifles…

The real mechanics of the ranger changes

There is so much wrong in this thread… and it’s very clear you do not use spirits if you think there is a 10 second internal CD…

GS got a huge buff, spirits got a huge buff, splinter shot got a massive buff (i can actually hurt things underwater with my 1 now!!) The 2 off hand things are buffs, CotW wasn’t getting the reduced CD or the increased area, now it does, throw torch would be able to miss if your target freaking crawled out of the way with how slow it went, now it lands a little better…

And then the last mass of underwater things i have no idea how those will help us… as far as i know there are no combo fields underwater…

It has been tested time and time again, and spirit effects do in fact, have a 10 second internal cooldown.

The greatsword buff was minor at best. Maul got a 40% damage increase. Great, it’s not like the greatsword’s auto attack needed more damage anyway. And now you can use a one shot block skill with a 20 second cooldown while moving.

Call of the Wild was a bug fix, not a buff. And throw torch didn’t need a speed buff at all. The increased speed doesn’t even help that much since the torch still travels slower than an arrow…and those can be dodged by dancing back and forth like an idiot.

As for the buff to our speargun…did we really need to deal more damage underwater? Is there even any meaningful underwater content to experience?

Um, the block now blocks ALL projectiles as long as it’s being channeled, so in other words you dont take damage until someone comes up and hits you with a melee attack, yup awful truly truly awful…

And i use spirits religiously and there is NO internal CD, i have NEVER had to wait 10 seconds inbetween procs, and another way i know that “tested stat” is bull kitten is because it used to be a 15s internal CD that was “tested” then it went to a 3 second “tested” internal cd then it was 5, there is NO internal CD.

Show me the proof of your spirits’ abilities happening more than once every 10 seconds and I will believe you. And the greatsword buff was still a minor one…considering the weapon still cuts like a dead fish.

New Ranger Pet?

in Ranger

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Taym, well aware of the pet problem. They don’t hold aggro, cast times are too long, they run amuck if not leashed, and the moving target issue is annoying.
However, as pissed off as I am with this last patch. Ranger is my only lvl 80 and I’m going to try and have some fun with the new content with my useless skills.
Have they fixed the trap “bug”?? Does anyone know? I haven’t logged on since the patch.

They apparently fixed it in a patch last night, though I haven’t been on to confirm it personally.

I can confirm. The trap bug was fixed.

I’m not an expert about Legendary skins (or all skins except the crafted exotics lol).

You can just create it on the warrior like pchow said. just put all the items needed in your bank, take it out with the warrior, create the item. The item will be soulbound on use so just put it back in the bank and pick it up with your ele.

He can’t do this. You can put soulbound items in the bank, but only the character the items are bound to can take them out.

Soulbound on use

Also OP the binding properties of an item are always clearly listed in the description. If you didn’t get burned here it probably would have been something else since you didn’t read closely enough.

Both the bloodstone shard and the eldritch scroll are bound on acquire. The way I understand it, he purchased the bloodstone shard with his elementalist, and the eldritch scroll with his warrior.

I was attempting to make the Focus called the anomaly since my ele was closer to 200 and my warrior had less i thought it was a legit plan. now i’m forced to farm another 50 skill points when i shouldn’t have to. not saying its hard just annoying.

I don’t get it. You want to make The Anomaly for your elementalist? And you purchased the bloodstone shard with your elementalist?. I don’t see the problem here.

Oh I see…you’re really complaining about the eldritch scroll being soulbound, not the bloodstone shard. Well that’s too bad, if you had looked closer, you would have seen that the items say: “soulbind on acquire.” I’m sorry, but there really is no way out of it but to gather 50 more skill points with your elementalist.

You can always use your warrior’s eldrrtch scroll for something else…like a mystic weapon.

BUG: Healing Seed + Take Root

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

I believe the game is coded to only allow a player to control 5 turrets at once. Since Healing Seed counts as a turret, it would be affected by the number of seed turrets you’re currently controlling. An easy way to test this, would be to first use Take Root, then use Seed Turret. If no turret spawns, then I was correct.

Edit: I just tested this myself. When I used Seed Turret after using Take Root, no turret spawned. It seems only 5 turrets are allowed at any given time, and attempting to create a new turret will not replace an old one.

Double Edit: I just tried using Healing Seed after using Seed Turret. Despite the fact that I only had one active turret, the Healing Seed still did not spawn. It looks bugged to me.

It doesn’t burn because it’s a plant… it would look silly with fire coming out of a plant based weapon. I guess they could make the glow more luminescent.

Because realism matters in a game where your character can swing a sword the size of a school bus and throw fireballs and lightning bolts. The verdant torch doesn’t exactly “burn” but it glows much brighter, despite looking like a plastic toy.

Are you seriously arguing that its alright for all these items have the exact same icon as a lv 5 bronze crafted item?

Yes. Because none of the items mentioned have a unique skin. If you’ll notice, truly unique items (dungeon armor/weapons, legendaries, etc.) do have unique icons. It’s also possible some of the icons are placeholders for icons that will be added in the future.

Precursor weapons are not unique skins. Using generic icons for them is perfectly fine. The off color mystic weapon icons do feel a bit sloppy, but you have to keep in mind, all those icons take up space. Icons get recycled in order to save space. I suspect it’s just like the issue with ranger pet names not being saved because of storage space issues.

Have you even seen any precursor in game? I guess not. They are all have unique skin which other weapons don’t have. The Colossus(hammer precursor) has its own unique icon for example. The Hunter(rifle precursor) has its own unique skin(tybalt’s rifle) but has a generic rifle icon.

They even put some new icons with halloween weapons and armors skin.

The Colossus uses the same icon as the Magmaton hammer. Leaf of Kudzu uses the Verdant Longbow skin. None of the precursor weapons are unique.

But that aside, my point still stands. Icons take up space. So they get consolidated and recycled in order to save space. It happens in every MMO, some are worse off than others.

Hide in Plain Sight

in Ranger

One of the issues I have with Hide In Plain Sight is the duration of the stealth. Most of the effects that trigger the stealth will last for most or all of the stealth’s duration, making it effectively useless. In PvE, the monster that triggered the trait will simply aggro you again when the stealth wears off, and in PvP, any competent player will simply keep throwing attacks at the spot where you disappeared.

anyone have a condition trap ranger build?

in Ranger

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

DoomBunny never specified whether the build was for PvP or PvE. 20 Marksmanship is generally taken for the Piercing Arrows trait, which is quite good in PvE. Situationally, Eagle Eye can also take that spot, in the rare event that you need a 1500 range longbow for something. your pet’s opening strike can also trigger independently from yours, granting a potential 10 stacks of vulnerability.

Hide In Plain Sight, and Shared Anguish both have very niche uses in PvE. I would argue that Hide In Plain Sight is rather useless in PvE due to the extremely short duration of the stealth.

One simple question i can't understand

in Ranger

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

Damage isn’t the only thing that matters. Other classes don’t get a second healthbar which can be instantly healed every 20 seconds (assuming you don’t let it go down all the way). Pets provide utility beyond pure damage.

Obviously there are major problems with the way pets function right now, but I don’t think the core class mechanic itself is bad. With some fixes and tweaks I think it could work.

Except for the fact that this “second health bar” is in no way tied to your character’s survivability. Sure, your pet can take hits for you, but so can necromancers’ minions, elementalists’ summoned elementals, and just about any other summoned creature characters can produce.

Pets do provide some utility, but 75% of that utility is left in the hands of an unreliable AI, which seems to have more trouble keeping itself alive than a squirrel on a busy freeway.

The ranger’s pet mechanic is essentially the same as summoned creatures produced by other professions. The only differences being, we have slightly more control over our pets, they never go away, and they have a few more abilities. But at the pets’ core is the same AI that plagues all summoned creatures. It’s a shame that the ranger’s “unique” profession mechanic is a glorified necromancer minion that we can’t blow up to get more use out of.

I mean, the torch makes a nice off-hand weapon, but its secondary use of lighting dark places kind of gets defeated when your torch doesn’t burn at night.

A little help with condition ranger

in Ranger

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

I actually have been using a mix of knight’s armor and rabid armor. Mostly because I didn’t feel like transmuting the last two pieces of my dungeon set. I’ve also been experimenting with runes of the adventurer. The 50% endurance when you use a healing skill has been a life saver. Accessories are carrion, with rampager weapons.

Currently, I’m hovering around 1000 condition damage. It’s not optimal by any stretch, but it works for me.

I am curious if there is an optimal mix of knight’s and rabid armors that would maximize condition damage while minimizing the loss of +power. Right now my only rabid pieces are pants and boots.

Considering to try Longbow

in Ranger

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

The issue I have with the longbow is twofold. Firstly, we have Long Range Shot. The range penalty on this skill makes it vastly inferior to the longbow’s other skills unless fired from 1000+ range, which isn’t going to happen often. Secondly, is the longbow’s lack of mobility. Barrage roots the user in place for the duration of the channeling, and any movement will cancel the skill. Rapid fire allows movement, but dodge rolling will cancel the skill.

So, If you’re attacking stationary targets at maximum range, where you yourself don’t have to move much…is the perfect situation in which to use a longbow. Unfortunately these situations rarely happen. I find the shortbow to be superior for these reasons.

The main issue here is real estate. Greatswords and hammers are both very large weapons, and it’s easier to create elaborate designs for them. Yes, I know these legendary weapons stand out in other ways like changing your character’s armor.

It’s much harder to make a small weapon like the Incinerator stand out. Though I agree that some of the less noticeable legendary weapons need to be tweaked. Speaking of which, Kudzu needs to get a fancy arrow animation for barrage. Currently, using barrage with Kudzu looks the same as with any other bow.

.75 attacks per second is 15 attacks in 20 seconds, or 1.25 seconds per attack.

Condition Ranger

in Ranger

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

I run a trap based condition build. I had originally decided on rabid armor with carrion accessories, but to prepare myself for the dungeons I had to endure to get that armor, I crafted myself some exotic knight’s armor, and found myself liking it.

So now I use knight’s armor with runes of the undead and carrion accessories. Going full tilt on condition damage is a good thing if your build is primarily focused on applying and maintaining conditions, but not all of the rangers weapons are condition focused. Knight’s armor sacrifices condition damage for power, and slightly higher toughness. That extra power allows rangers to use other weapons without completely kittening themselves.
