It should have a good reward if it is “OPTIONAL” because you didn’t have to do it.
“because you didn’t have to do it” is not a valid argument for the lack of reward. The value of a reward is completely subjective. I for one love the pact weapons, and not having to spend a gold to get one works just fine for me.
I feel the rewards for the personal story are completely justified. In fact, I would have preferred it if the pact weapons were account bound on purchase, so they couldn’t be offloaded to the trading post.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
If you take the time to actually read your personal story objective, you would know that to complete your personal story, you need to visit fort trinity after killing Zhaitan.
At which point you still only get a token for a fail rare item… which you probably don’t even need, because you crafted or bought an exotic weapon already.
OP is right, the story reward is fail.
You don’t use the weapon for the stats, you use the weapon for the skin. It’s a free reward for doing something that takes barely any effort. What do you want? A free legendary? A full set of ascended armor?
Also, in case you hadn’t heard the news: The personal story, and all rewards therein, is OPTIONAL. If you don’t feel it’s worth your time, skip it. And stop whining about it.

80 ranger: 0.503 deaths per hour
35 guardian: 0.301 deaths per hour
Most of my ranger’s deaths come from me attempting to reach places the game doesn’t want me reaching….like the bottom of Rata Sum.

Any damage stops the channel. Only time I’ve ever found lick wounds to be useful was when underwater and when fighting risen as in both situations the mobs tend to stick on my and not my pet.
And as said above, when you compare this ability to other class abilities it’s still pretty awful.
This is not true. The channel will only stop if your pet is knocked down, launched, pushed back, pulled, or downed.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Today I got to experience the new lick wounds for the first time since it was updated.
While doing my usual circuit of southsun cove, I managed to get caught by a veteran karka. I went down, but was up in less than 3 seconds after hitting lick wounds. It’s massively overpowered now…It’s almost like getting revived by another player.
sigh I hate when people type without thinking. Ok first of all, yes when it works its very strong but the only time its OP is underwater, we are almost unkillable. On land, when it works, its very very strong, but not even close to op, CC pet and down, problem solved, now you cant dps a ranger when they are downed, we are in the same league as warriors except they can get up and beat on you. Second, its not as strong as getting rezed by a player, they heal for about 1800-1900 per tick, pet heals for about 900-950 per tick at about 18.5k hp. I knew as soon as rangers got some new shiny things people would use the word overpowered with them.
Lick wounds even if it worked 100% of the time wouldnt be op, or gamebreaking, even when rangers use lick wounds on me and it works I still stomp them because I stun pet and down them, use your brains, overpowered means that its so rediculously strong that no other class can compete with it unless they are OP as well, nothing about ranger screams that atm.
My pet heals me for over 1200 HP per tick. The majority of players heal for just a hair above 1400. You don’t start seeing 1800-2k until you start stacking healing power, and most people don’t…unless they’re guardians or banner warriors.
Also, nowhere in my post did I mention pvp. No a ranger isn’t going to avoid getting stomped in pvp any more than that warrior or thief will. I was talking purely about pve, and yes, lick wounds is overpowered in pve.
Perhaps you should take your own advice and think before you post.
If your pet gets downed I believe Lick Wounds stops activation when on land; this concept applies in PvE as well. Rangers already have enough of a problem in high level areas from what I understand. (I do not PvE extensively, so please correct me if this has changed)
Lick wounds revives your pet upon activation. More often than not, if lick wounds doesn’t outright revive me, my pet will stay up long enough for lick wounds to completely recharge.

Don’t know, friend and I got 5 bells and 1 endless tonic in about 20,000 gifts. The medium gifts were the best bet, at around 50-60c each (and yes, they were that price back then too). With the sell price of snowflakes, ugly wool items, and weapon skins, it was actually a small PROFIT to open the gifts and an even bigger profit to sell the bells.
This is not true in the least. I just opened 500 medium boxes, to the tune of just under 4g. I received approximately 1.5g worth of items.

Stability, teleports, and leap skills will allow enemies to cross in and out of your ring of warding. Occasionally, enemies will bounce in or out of the ring when they touch the edge.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
It wouldn’t make much difference. Other than the badges, dungeon tokens, and obsidian shards, everything required to craft a legendary can be bought with gold.
Edit: the bloodstone shard, gift of exploration, and crystals/philosopher stones cannot be bought either.

This kind of thing is right in line with GW1’s miniature polar bear.
http://wiki.guildwars.com estimates the drop rate of a polar bear mini at 0.02%.
Except trying for the polar bear was fun. Spam clicking 20,000 times (probably be lucky to get one in even that) is not. I would call that carpal tunnel syndrome…and painful.
I don’t know if it’s the thousands of runs I’ve done, but running to the end of a long hallway and spamming snowballs at grentches for 5 minutes isn’t what I would call fun.

If you attempt to use a leap skill while chilled, crippled, or under quickness, you’ll only move half as far. This same thing happens to pets.

You do realize you can drop a field that removes conditions, heals, gives you regen and stays there for 30s (meaning all you have to do is leap through it to heal, walk over it to remove conditions/get regeneration).
can step on it for condition removal and leap through it to heal themselves, it’s CD and heal+regen makes it EASILY the best heal a ranger has. In any scenario. Period.
Healing spring does remove conditions and provide regeneration, but you need to be standing in it to get those effects.
Let me quote GW2W: "The direct heal and condition removal only occur upon activation. "
source: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Spring
Please don’t spread information on how things work when you don’t even know how they work.
Healing spring removes one condition upon activation, and an additional condition with each pulse of regeneration.

-BnooMaGoo.5690
Against 1 target, yea you’re probably right.
But whirling wrath blasts foes at a small range at 360 degrees. Also, you have to look at the other functions of each skill apart from the straight damage. GS gives you an aoe symbol that gives Ret not just for you but your allies too, gives you a gap-closer, a burn that can pull multiple foes to you at once, thus maximizing the GS’s abilities. it also has a light combo field, which is helpful when conditions get heavy (whirl) or inconjunction with allies.
The hammer gives you a symbol that applies protection, a blast finisher to trigger AoE retaliation within that symbol, a ranged immobilize, a knockback, and I’m not really sure what to call ring of warding…
-BnooMaGoo.5690
on my ele when I use water elemental it turns the tide of a mass combat
When i summon my fire sword, and someone else picks up the other one, it changes things dramaticallywhen a thief calls in reinforcements… you normally always lose
when a mesmer uses celerity.. you notice it
when you get turned into a dodo bird… you notice it and normaly die
Daggerdtorm.. wrecks me
FLesh golem changes things a ton when you have the build for it
litch form is good.
ENtangle is game breaking
rampage as one is huge and drops anyone
when a warrior pops his elite AND GETS EVERY BOON IN THE GAME… you notice it.
whennobody plays an engi… but i can say their elites are not good.
and ours are horrid. im sorry NOBODY would call 3 sec of shield and the ability to block 1 attack immediatly after and heal yourself for 500 damage… an ELITE skill.MEZMERS GET ILLUSION OF LIFE which is a temp aoe REZ, that is actually MORE powerful than tome of courage or renewed focus.
FRENZY is better than both as well.
Just a quick note about entangle. It’s not game breaking. In fact, entangle is useless in pvp. All a player has to do is use a leap or a teleport skill, and they’re free of the vines.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Best in slot
Bolt is only 100 charged lodestones + everything else. I have everything else pretty much.
Well, I for one will be getting Mjolnir. That is, if I ever take to playing my guardian. Asura+lightning hammer=win.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Anything is better than unguent really, i use the 20 second heal one, because it’s much more reliable to have a heal that you can time the poison’s leave, and it’s instant, where as unguent is over time. Whenever i see someone using unguent, all i have to do is poison them and burst them down.
Troll unguent is better for countering attrition, due to the over time nature of the heal. Heal as one is better at countering burst damage. But the best way to counter a burst is to avoid it.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Merely 1 leap + heal + regen + mitigation from cond removal > Ungent.. With swords improved (which i use), that’s 2 normal leaps. With sword, you leap every 3rd attack so with Qz from pet switching (20s CD with 15 points in BM) that’s a LOT of healing.
As for fighting “all over the place”… it’s just common sense to use the high ground, use stairs to walls as bottlenecks, using houses and corners to los and make sure your team moves as one. If you are all over the place you are doing it wrong afaik. Not claiming it’s always perfect, but i find it way more effective for me and the group.
As for the pet, it’s also healed by HS and since i’m constantly switching for Qz, it’s a non-issue.
Let me just say i’m just trying to give some insight for people that are still finding their fav spec. Not trying to spread a Dogma. Feel free to disagree!
The sword auto is a leap, but it isn’t a leap finisher, so it won’t trigger a combo field. The sword’s only leap finisher is monarch’s leap.
Also, unless your pet is standing in the spring, it will not receive the condition removal or the regeneration.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
What time cookie said lol
I just cant stomach spending that much time/effort on something that wont at least be BiS.
I will check it out swift paw thanks for the heads up!
What the frack is BiS? It’s also 250 charged lodestones.
Edit: It was 350.

I didn’t say healing spring is bad, I just said it wasn’t as good as troll unguent unless you’re running around in a group. Condition removals are easy enough to come by, so poison isn’t an issue. I personally run with signet of renewal, as it’s a much better condition removal skill, and doubles as a stun breaker.
You can leap through healing spring for an additional heal, but both of the ranger’s leap finishers are on our melee weapons, which most people will agree, are sub-par when compared to our ranged options. I for one, never use melee weapons unless ranged combat isn’t an option (jade shards in the solid ocean fractal for instance), so that extra heal isn’t an option for me, or others who don’t like to melee.
You also have to stand in the healing spring for the full 15 seconds to get that 2-3k heal from the regeneration applications.
I didn’t claim anyone was telling it was bad, i’m just discussing how the perception that Ungent is better than HS is wrong. And it is. I know you need to stay on it 15s to get the full regen, but leaping does make up for that difference in HpS.
As for not using melee weapons… i’ll just say this. If you don’t use melee weapons in tPvP and WvW (heck, i mostly just use melee weapons on PvE aswell) you are missing out on the best Ranger setups this game has to offer. Personally i use sword for tPvP (best weapon we have, dispite what anyone says) couple with SB and GS coupled with LB in WvW.
Not using melee weapons is a big fail in my book.
I don’t pvp, and I only WvW for my 50 monthly kills.

I used healing spring from the moment I unlocked it right up until level 80. Then I got tired of dying while running around solo, so I started using troll unguent. Haven’t died in solo combat since. Except while soloing yesterday’s event. But not even healing spring can save you from a group of 10 toy soldiers with rifles.

It depends on whether you want to increase your strengths further, or shore up your weaknesses slightly. As for pairing something with a peach cookie…I don’t know what there is aside from sharpening stones and master maintenance oils. I feel like the sharpening stones would provide greater benefit.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
It’s not a skill challenge, it’s a group event. The skill challenge is behind her. That said, I soloed this event, twice…as a ranger. A level 80 warrior in full exotics should be able to steamroll it.

I also really like the Thor god of thunder type Guardian.
Then why not get Mjolnir?
Thor didn’t wield a sissy sword.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
After playing a guardian, I strongly prefer lick wounds to their healing symbol, even if it doesn’t work 100% of the time. When it does work, my ranger can tank champions while downed, usually long enough for lick wounds to recharge fully before my pet dies.
Although, I would kill a quaggan for the guardian’s AoE knockback.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Hello guys,
As i can see, alot of classes got the 10—>25% running speed signet buff and(ofc) thiefs got the 33—>50%. So, do we know the running speed cap(or else the maximum running speed)? So basically doesnt change a thing vs classes with perma swift……
And guardians are still the slowest class.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Unless Tail Swipe was bugged and was in fact not working with a 40 second cooldown, Since tooltips have been messed up multiple times for the ranger pets already.
Tail swipe has a very distinctive animation. The drake will do a complete 360 degree spin, which you don’t see while the drake uses bite. Enemy drakes use this skill, which is accompanied by a knockback.
I’m not saying that our pet drakes’ tail swipe will launch foes, but it would have the same animation, don’t you think?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
You do realize you can drop a field that removes conditions, heals, gives you regen and stays there for 30s (meaning all you have to do is leap through it to heal, walk over it to remove conditions/get regeneration). It’s also on a 30s CD which means for every minute you got 30s of condition removal. It’s called Healing Spring and it’s your best heal, by far.
That, coupled with Signet of Renewal which takes conditions every 10s (and the 60s CD where you can just send to your pet, then switch pets and get Qz if you’re specced for it) gives you decent enough condition removal to be effective.
Also, if you spec 30 in BM you can get your pet to constantly keep removing conditions from you.
It’s not perfect, but it’s hardly useless.
Healing Spring is very awesome for PvE, but the supremacy of mobility in W3 almost takes it out of the equation. Besides, popping that spring basically paints a giant target for enemy aoe’s.
Surely you jest.
You don’t need to stay in the field for it to heal you. Besides the fact that allies can blast it for heals, can step on it for condition removal and leap through it to heal themselves, it’s CD and heal+regen makes it EASILY the best heal a ranger has. In any scenario. Period.
Not sure if you know this, but healing spring only lasts for 15 seconds. For anything but running in a competent party, Troll unguent is better. It heals for double the amount of healing spring over 10 seconds, and has a 5 second shorter cooldown.
Healing spring does remove conditions and provide regeneration, but you need to be standing in it to get those effects. When you’re kiting for your life is typically when you need to pop a healing skill, and healing spring isn’t much help then.
Allies can blast it for an AoE heal, but you cannot, as rangers are the only class without a blast finisher.
So, in a competent group, healing spring is nice….but I rarely see competent groups. Healing spring should never be used while running solo, ever.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
They only used Tail Swipe before, How do I know? I timed it.
They swung every 3 seconds, which was the cast time of Tail Swipe.
Now they’re attacking far far faster then before.
and far faster then the current Tail Swipe cast time, It’s quite possible though Tail Swipe just doesn’t work now though.
This is false, if they were ONLY using tail swipe that would’ve been fixed immediately seeing as tail swipe has a 40s CD, has a BASE damage of 1.5k, is a blast finisher and a 360* AoE, their auto attack was just abysmally slow which is just how the drake pet roled even in Beta.
What the OP is likely getting confused with tail swipe is one of the drakes auto attacks, it will randomly use one of 3 animations for its auto attack, 2 are bites and the third is it turns to the side and slaps them with their tail, but that’s NOT tail swipe
A. I’ve never seen the blast finisher work period
B. The damage you see on the tooltip is not the pets actual damage, That’s simple to check, Look at the damage it lists right now…Now go remove all your gear, Look at the damage then, That’s the actual Delve of the ability. Yes Anet is that bad when it comes to tooltip information.
C. You can actually check what i’m saying right now, Have your pet Above land go beat on a mob, Time it…Now proceed to walk over to some water, and have the same pet kill a mob, Time the attack, You’ll see it’s 3 seconds, That was the same amount of time it took above land a patch ago..It’s been changed, the pet is attacking faster, and Tail Swipes cast time has been dropped (it was 3 seconds)
The blast finisher ALWAYS worked, that was the thing about it, and btw your gear does nothing to the pets tooltip, i should know, my gear has no power on it, and you do realize pets pause inbetween attacks right? all pets except i believe cats do this.
EDIT: Upon going into LA and having my drake attack one of the precise target dummies for a good 5minutes, he has yet to do ANYTHING other than his auto attack, you’re full of bull kitten, he’s not using his tail swipe, that is all.
To clear up any confusion go to this video, go to 2:40, the big mamma drake begins to use its tailswipe then. Again, what YOU are seeing is NOT the tailswipe.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfph49mdiPYHmm, Weird doesn’t show the tooltip one sec i’ll find a better method
I’ll just read you the change, You can just check it yourself
1086 Power – Tail Swipe – 697 Damage
1141 Power – Tail Swipe – 732 DamageAs for the rest, Go bloody underwater and see for yourself.
I did… he’s not using it… it’s upsetting, i’ve only been using a drake since kittening beta, and i spend a good 50% of my time underwater…
That slow kitten attack he’s using is 3 second cast time, You can time it.. That’s Tail Swipe, It isn’t working as a Blast Finisher
But it is Tail Swipe, It was the same attack he was using above land till a patch ago, Now he’s using a really fast attack (and Tail Swipe is faster on land now as well, but it’s not working)
look, i just went underwater AGAIN, had each drake kill all 3 target dummies 3 times each, not a single kittening one of them used TAIL SWIPE they all used their auto attack
which is them slapping them with their tail while underwater, this was the SAME pre patch on land, but now they bite instead.time each attack
on land you’ll see it matches the Bite attack with is 1/4 Second
Under water you’ll see it matches Tail Swipe, which is 3 Seconds
Except for the fact that tail swipe has a 40 second cooldown. If it was true that drakes ONLY used tail swipe, then they would attack once every 43 seconds, not once every 3 seconds. Notice how bite has no cooldown. That is the attack drakes are using. They will never use chomp or tail swipe.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Until they allow a collections tab for tonics, I won’t be bothering with any. I don’t need 5 endless tonics clogging up space on my characters and/or bank. However, I will be crafting my two minis.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I think you’re reaching.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Maul’s damage was already increased by 40%.
Simple solution: Make maul a blast finisher and more people will use it.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I imagine the appearance is the same as any other crafted armor. Draconic/emblazoned etc. The insignia only determines the stats.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
They removed Engineers from the game in all meaningful ways… There is not a single aspect of the game where the class is even useful anymore.
My build just got destroyed, it was the one I used in fractals to prove to other profs we were viable and not get auto kicked.
The method they used to remove engies hasnt even taken affect, but those of us who have stuck with this prof till now and tried every variation of the prof IN COMPARISON to other profs, can tell you yeah, this prof is dead.
I thought rangers were the redheaded step child. Does this mean we’ve moved up a notch?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Have they actually confirmed tengu? Cause there was a rumor pre-release that Anet was prohibited from making any more Cantha content. That rumor extended to say that the big sinkhole section of Divinity’s Reach was originally meant to be the Cantha district, and had to be changed. Thus every region except Cantha is represented there.
Except that there are canthan NPCs and zaishen scouts hanging out in lions arch and other places around the world.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I was hoping they’d get involved with the Karka or something, seeing as though they were close to Lost Shores. Not as playable characters of course, just events that would’ve given more info to what had happened to them.
Btw where did the Karka even come from?
Ever notice how young karka look a lot like lightning bugs?….I got nothing.
I wouldn’t mind getting to see what the dominion of winds actually looks like though. Someone should get the asura to point one of their mega lasers at that wall.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I suppose I’m just too used to playing a ranger to get into a mostly melee class. The guardian feels like the polar opposite of the ranger. Decent melee with terrible ranged options.
Though, I regularly solo champions on my ranger. One of my favorites was the champion krait nimross in…I think it was either lornar’s pass or timberline falls.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I’ve been playing my guardian for a day or so, made it to level 13. But I just can’t get into it. I’ve played with all the guardian’s available weapons enough to unlock all their skills, and they all feel lackluster to me. I’ve been having trouble surviving difficult encounters, but I’m attributing that to lack of traits and decent utility skills. In general I just find the guardian rather boring in practice, though I do love the concept.
Does it get better? I’ve seen videos of guardians soloing dungeon bosses -something my ranger can’t do.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
What about hammers in PvE? I’ve watched hammer guardians facetank bosses that would down my ranger in 3 hits.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Signet of Renewal is one of the very few condition removals rangers have!
In case you haven’t noticed, we are bit short on these …Yes, SoR could be improved, but even in it’s current state, how is this bad??
Try using the Marks trait line, you will find signet mastery and signet of the beastmaster in there. These 2 improve signet use.
I’m not sure how signet of the beastmaster affects signet of renewal. If your pet is near you, do all your conditions simply disappear? Do you and your pet exchange conditions? Does it do anything different at all?
I do have an idea to improve signet of renewal. Reduce the cooldown to 45 seconds (untraited), change the signet active to: cleanse all conditions from yourself and your pet. Of course, I think signet of the beastmaster needs to be retired as a trait. Forcing you to put 30 points in a trait line, just to make most signets useful for yourself is a terrible idea. If anything, signets should affect you, then if you trait them, they affect your pet as well.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Spider poison field literally lasts for only split second. It might as well not be a field at all.
But it applies nearly 30 seconds of poison when traited with malicious training.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The trick to playing a Guardian in pvp is to dodge past your foe before using a big ability. You get really used to aggressive dodging with a hammer because you have no leap skill.
Mighty blow is a 300 range leap. It’s not a very good gap closer, but it’s still a leap.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Empathic bond is a nice grandmaster trait. It cures all conditions on you every 10 seconds. The conditions do not go to the pet. But it only works when your pet is alive.
Sadly, signet of renewal is the best on demand condition removal we have.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Rangers already have plenty of poison fields. It’s too bad all of them are on pets though.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Double posting, but I finally figured out why no one in this forum has heard of this problem. It wasn’t a guardian skill causing this, but a mesmer skill.
In my own defense, the two skills look remarkably similar.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
@Quark – the skill refraction absorbs enemy projectiles and grants allies retaliation. so you should be getting retaliation if you are within or affected by the bubble underwater. unless if you’re referring to PvP, which i assume not.
haven’t experienced this either or have anyone else mention it. i’m consistently using sink when underwater as a Guard and my teammamtes have never commented, not have i ever see it happen visually.
maybe if you can, try catching it on video next time
I understand that refraction would cause enemy projectiles to be absorbed and grant me regeneration. But what’s happening, is MY projectiles are being reflected back at ME. Unless all underwater bosses use refraction on themselves, your argument really has no weight.
The anchor appears, the boss sinks, and every attack I throw at the boss gets thrown back at me.
