Not going to buy outfits that make you bald

I’m bald IRL and I kind of feel like your making fun of me. There’s nothing wrong with being bald, many people like it. My characters are bald also buecause I try to make them look like me. I don’t mind the baldness, I love it. Why are you shaming people for being bald. You are basically saying bald people are ugly…

Don’t put words that aren’t there. We’re talking about outfits ina game, not people irl.

You’re complaining about bald characters. Your issue could be restated as “don’t hide my character’s hair”, which would come across as different. The respondent might be overreacting… but the words you chose opened your statement up to misunderstand.

Regardless, ANet isn’t hiding character hair because they want to. There’s a technical reason for it. The very things you love about hair in this game (colors and animations and textures) conflict with how headgear works (including that on outfits).

To remove the conflict would require writing new code that allows that to happen, retrofitting every existing hairstyle & headgear to make it work with the new code (whether it is actually changed or not), and doing more QA on future designs. That would be expensive enough to reduce the number of new skins we see, including outfits, armor, and hair.

For better or worse, the developers decided to keep the status quo (hiding hair with most headgear) to allow them to release more skins.

That leaves us with these choices:

  • Hiding headgear (can be done for outfits, too)
  • Not using (or even buying) gear (or outfits) that hide hair.
  • Embrace the hairlessness.

There are MMOs from 10+years ago that have no problem pulling this off. The solution, is to create a preset “hair” mesh that is technically part of the hat skin. Then give it a hidden dye channel that is set to match the player’s hair color.

Of course, that may restrict all headgear in the game to 3 available dye channels, unless it’s possible to add a 5th hidden channel without breaking something.

I have several unlimited mining tools scattered across my various alts, but I never feel compelled to use any of them aside from my watchwork pick. As long as sprockets hold their value, none of my other mining tools will see significant use…and I can’t stand it.

The unbound tools don’t bother me as much, both because I don’t really need that much unbound magic, and because finite versions can be bought with karma.

You could just take off your medium armor chestpiece to achieve the same results, and expirience the magical feeling behind completely unprotected torso yourself, in practical combat.

The mechanics of the world literally do not care what you’re wearing. Some of the skimpiest chest armor in the game is “heavy armor” and grants more defensive benefits than medium armor.

Also, you can just put on an “outfit” and the entire concept of armor goes out the window anyway. I wear “heavy armor” on my “acrobatic” daredevil all the time thanks to this mechanic.

Also, giant norn and charr in actual heavy armor roll all over the place like olympic gymnasts.

This is not a world where the words “practical” and “combat” should be used in the same sentence.

Ahem…

My take on it is this: Anet wrote themselves into a corner when they decided there would be not one, but six impossibly huge world destroying beings for us to fight. So to prevent each new expansion from being: Amass dragon fighting army>learn dragon’s weakness>kill dragon, they’re now coming up with ways to write off the rest of the dragons as quickly as possible so they can make up some new crap for us to kill.

Everyone is busy making a big stink about Balthazar showing up out of nowhere, but no one seems to be upset at the fact that we basically wrote off not one, but two elder dragons while not actually trying. I mean, we barely even caught a glimpse of Primordus before we unintentionally put him back to sleep. And we may not even get to see Jormag at all.

I think it’s silly that it takes almost 10 minutes to solo it the normal way (with the siege weapons) but I can swim out to the ship and kill it in under a minute with my normal weapons.

I’ve gone back and forth on this a bit, and after playing some T3 with my druid (old fractal character) I don’t think I’d be comfortable playing a power reaper in fractals. I love the power spec in open world/HoT maps, but the new fractals make it really difficult (sometimes impossible) to play a full melee build. And a power reaper’s only real ranged option is mainhand axe, which is kind of sad.

it is odd how there isnt a condition damage minion outside of lich form and rise. i think it would be awesome to have bone minions provide bleeding to their targets even if their auto damage would have to be ‘balanced’ to compensate. would give non reapers a condition minion. and a choice of whether to keep them or blow them up.

The minions you get from Rise are not condi dmg minions. They look the same as the jagged horrors you summon in lich form, but they are actually shambling horrors and do not inflict any conditions whatsoever on their own. But that being said, giving bleed to shambling horrors from Rise or bone minions would be great way to begin offsetting this awful lich form nerf, although the changes of that actually happening will be very slim.

I have a solution. Add the bleeding on hit effect to the Necromantic Corruption trait. Now all minions inflict bleeding with their attacks.

We lost consistent summoning of Jagged Horrors when Rise! was changed in beta to shambling horrors on a timer. Sound familiar? The difference then and now is that almost everyone praised the change as good, and sort of glossed over all of the reasons for the change. Lost to time, we are now in a position where people are basically clamoring for Rise! to be changed back. I see people on reddit basically asking for a skill that summons Jagged horrors consistently on a 45-60 second timer. It’s silly to me that there is no memory of balance changes. I still want necros to be strong but I have to agree with another commenter elsewhere that the devs are probably looking forward to the next expansion/elite spec to give Necros another play style at this point instead of trying to make Reaper or base necro on par with Ele or War in terms of damage.

If you’re using Rise with Augury of Death (you should be), hitting 5 targets puts Rise on a 28 second cooldown, and the minions live for up to 25 seconds. That’s only 3 seconds of downtime, assuming you still have 5 targets after the first 28 seconds.

The jagged horrors from Lich Form live 30 seconds, and Lich form itself has a 3 minute cooldown. That’s 150 seconds of downtime. And there aren’t a lot of areas in fractals (not sure about raids) where you can really abuse death nova to maintain your horrors. Of course, part of that has to do with some enemies not counting for “on kill” traits and sigils.

If the apex of your DPS is a single skill that’s on several mins cooldown, then that’s your problem, not the necro’s.
Learn the class and its place. If you want a magic nuking class, go play elementalist.
Seriously, if necro is so broken, and unusable, don’t use it, roll a class who’s playstyle you actually enjoy. There, problem solved.

The problem is, even with the “broken” minion spam, the condi necro’s DPS was still miles behind condi tempest, and even power tempest. The only reason the necro comp became meta in fractals, is because pub necros are slightly better at not dying than pub tempests.

So tell me then pls, why so many of players rage about fact that they slightly changed mechanic of the spell ? ….
I am laughing at so many of those who rage about this how 1 “nerf” “destroyed” reaper/necro …. all of them acting like if Anet nerfed every single ability ….

A jagged horror could inflict 1 bleed for 10 seconds (at 100% bleed duration) every 3.5 seconds. So that is ~2.8 perma stacks of bleed per minion. You could realistically keep up about 7 jagged horrors at a time so that is ~19.6 stacks of bleeding from those minions alone. So with 25 might/25vuln and full vipers, each bleed does 235 damage. That’s 4606 bleed damage a second lost for 2 and a half of every 3 minutes of fighting, which is massive. If any other profession suffered that much damage loss, they would go torch Anet’s HQ.

The problem was when you got 4 necros together with a druid/healing tempest…and could maintain 10-12 jagged horrors per necro throughout an entire fractal.

So anet fixed it in typical anet fashion.

Is Axe usable after buff?

why axe? why would you want to use axe in the first place…? For melee you have dagger’s and GS, and for far away you use staff for the 1200 range…. Axe is margianlly usefull if you are only fighting single targets and dare not to close…. I have used it sometimes in WVW standoff builds on zerker necro with wells. problem is if you get pressured and get 2 or more melee attackers to fight you, you die.

Axe may only be 900 range, but it deals more single target damage than staff, can’t be dodged by strafing like staff 1, and can’t be reflected. Staff has its uses, but DPS isn’t one of them.

I can’t promise that ANet didn’t nerf mobs/bosses or increase the reset time on ‘doors’ or change DR. However, given that everyone acknowledges that ANet didn’t spend much time on the event, isn’t it more plausible to believe that we’re simply more experienced and efficient now?

The Lich was nerfed, I don’t think the other bosses did. The Lich doesn’t summon many adds (if any?) and doesn’t give them boons. Used to apply regeneration, protection and retaliation on all the adds.

The Lich was always easy. The zerg just didn’t know how to dodge his skeleton summoning attack. I developed a bit of a habit of soloing him last year. I haven’t had the chance to fight him this year though.

Dont worry, Epidemic will not be changed. Problem on mesmer is pernament boons like quickness,protection, etc.

Not only am I expecting an epidemic nerf, but I’m also expecting a nerf to jagged horrors. Either a fixed time limit, or a hard cap on the number you can have at a given time (or both).

It’s been a huge disappointment to see the real fight after the trailer of Rising Flames.
Vermignus had the potential to be a new world boss. But it ended up being a lame defense event.

The Molten Dominator isn’t challenging as well, considering he’s a champion of Primordus. Then there’s the sloth queen – you’re not even able to be there on time because it’s gone so fast.

In the making-of video of Rising Flames they were talking about the deadliest map in Tyria. While the Fire Islands were pretty deadly in GW1, this is not the case in GW2. Maybe there’s still more to come. But Ember Bay was ridiculous in terms of difficulty.

Yeah, the sloth queen was extremely disappointing. There’s no way to prevent her from eating the slublings, even though the NPC seems to think there is (is there?). The food delivery mechanic doesn’t seem to do anything, and she dies so fast that I’ve only ever seen her breakbar phase once (yes, she actually has one).

I mean I’m guessing they will be, because going full Healing Druid in a Fractal, would make it take way longer.

I know for Raids though it may kill Viper and Berserker Druids.

I’m just a little worried, and wonder how things will play out now.

Until we actually see the skills we won’t know if it’s actually a increase or decrease to overall healing. They want you to trait to be a healer, and, hopefully, should be rewarded by having more powerful heals.

I have no expectations one way or the other. But anet does have a penchant for making things objectively worse in the name of balance.

There are heaps of weapons that fit this catagory…

Infinite Light, Foefires, Mjolnir to name some…..

What I never understood was why there aren’t full sets to these skins, why is there no Azureflame dagger design or why can’t I have a greatsword with Infinite Light design.

Then there are amazing skins/auras in game that aren’t even purchasable or useable outside of Hearts… Refer to pic, sorry for bad graphics.

Infinite light is a tribute to the runic blade from GW1. Also, Mjolnir was at one point about as expensive to craft as a legendary.

Glider does not open again

If you get struck by an enemy/environmental effect while gliding, there’s a chance you will be forced out of the air and unable to reopen your glider for a few seconds. This is much more prevalent in bloodstone fen/ember bay, but it can potentially happen in any map.

Or, (only applies if you have advanced gliding unlocked) if you run your glider endurance to 0 and close your glider, you won’t be able to reopen it until a small portion of the bar recovers.

Mine never went away. I’ve reported it several times since HoT launched, but it’s never been fixed. I can replay the story step and get rid of it, but it reappears as soon as I leave the map and come back.

Infusing is pretty expensive. For my 150 I infused only one ring, a bloodstone ring that I can easily change the stats. Both rings are then attuned which gives me 5 slots on rings, two on accessories, one on backpack (Non-infused) and 6 on armor, for 14. These agony slots are all populated with +10s. I make sure that all combinations of weapons have at least 10 AR as well.

You could go cheaper still and not infuse either ring, and put two +10s on your weapons.

Infusing your rings is not expensive…I don’t know where you’re getting this. +10 infusions are expensive, and you really should be using that money to get more ascended gear so you can use the cheaper infusions.

Greatsword Spite/Blood (zerker/valk gear) is super viable in most PvE… Actually outshines condition in open world, most world bosses, old-world dungeons, and lower tier fractals (although they supposedly adjusted the toughness/hp scaling across fractals, so not too sure since I’ve only played condi since the change.)

I’m pretty sure Condi is still better in high tier fractals, as it doesn’t suffer much DPS loss when forced to attack from range. Power builds against lots of melee hate have to fall back on axe, or drop reaper altogether.

I’ve been working on an ascended viper’s set…but it’s tedious.

I think you’re confusing ‘meta’ with ‘popular’ and/or with ‘good’. It’s a popular choice because it works regardless of player skill. That doesn’t make it efficient or even good; it just makes it safe.

Which makes it impossible to find a fractal pug recruiting anything but condi necros.

I’m gonna start pugging fractals as a power necro for teh lulz.

Power necro is my main in fractals. Never had an issue with not being allowed into a squad that didnt specify condi necro. Hell some squads just want any necro lol.

Do you run reaper in fractals? Melee gets punished really hard in T4, and the reaper’s only real ranged option is Axe…

Okay.. so after reading on the forums + youtube, I found out that functionality was disabled intentionally to prevent cheating. I read that what developers usually do in (competitive) multiplayer games.

Why would being able to make your field of view look like a blurry smudge promote cheating? How would that even work?

Depth of field makes for interesting photographs, but it really has no place in an actual game (unless you’re trying to take an artistic screenshot, but there’s photoshop for that).

Constant Client Freeze, Tried so many things

I’ve got exactly the same problem guys,
game freezes at random time when playin’ … it’s annoyin’,

sometimes i can play for 20 minutes, sometimes for 2hours…

I tried to reinstall all drivers , game etc… nothing helped.

I got win10 , GTX 970 , i7-6600K

2; its more than likely the servers, especially if youre OCE as from ember bay release many people are having issues theyre ignoring

Most of the crashes reported in this thread are GPU related. I had the exact same issue when I overclocked my GPU. PC would crash to a gray screen whenever I alt+tabbed to another window. I set my GPU clock speed back to factory, and it immediately fixed the problem.

I mained a ranger for almost 3 years. I enjoyed it, but the lack of AoE/cleave and low personal DPS really got to me after a while. I sometimes think about playing my ranger again…but every time I try, it feels like I’m slogging through mud.

I think they should overhaul the water physics in the game and make open seas. Wind Waker / Assassins Creed Black Flag style- Let people traverse from Core Tyria to Elona and Cantha and to the other side of Orr and the Fire Isles. Big open gameplay space with player created ships, player created guild ships, and possibility of ship combat, normal combat on small islands, underwater, gliding off hidden islands.

It also opens up to fighting a lot of sea faring type character types; vikings, maruders, corsairs, luxons, harpies, naga, pirates and so on. Open seas with storms, thunder, rain. It could be a really sweet way to make a big gameplay space that is supposed to feel massive and not densely populated.

But it would require an overhaul of the water based physics, improvements to weather and a really tight form of navigating ships. probably a ship crafting profession (gonna need a lot of elder wood to build a guild ship probably).

Yeah sorry, they go on quite a bit about the whole point of the bloodstones was to keep the magic away from the dragons. It’s still possible that it might not work right, but if it didn’t it seems like that would have been one of Zhaitan’s first trips as soon as he learned about it, cause he definitely knew all about it.

Also, Risen don’t crop up in swamps. Swamps crop up around risen.

See, This is why I hate Anet. They just love to retcon things. Before GW2 was a thing, The bloodstones just sealed away magic to prevent the humanoid races of Tyria from going crazy with it. Or something…It’s been a long time since I actually cared about the lore in GW.

Also, I thought the original bloodstone was housed in the fire islands, where it was blown into 5 pieces by a massive eruption, which scattered the pieces throughout Tyria.

I’m just going to say that a month ago, I was lucky enough to get Leaf Of Kudzu from the Mystic Forge.

It took me 48 hours to make Kudzu after that and I almost strictly WvW. Which means most of what I needed to make the weapon, I already had. I just needed to make a few trips here and there to grab items like Rune Stones, Gift Of Thorns, etc. and I was good to go.

Making Legendary weapons is incredibly easy. It’s just expensive if you want to do it quick and time consuming if you want to do it naturally.

I hate doing PvE as much as you hate doing WvW and I had to solo the entire Twilight Arbor dungeon a few times because I couldn’t find groups. At least to get the Gift Of Battle all you have to do is turn your brain off and blob for a few hours every day.

You know, there are reward tracks for dungeon tokens. Now in WvW too.

Originally and ideally, Legendary weapons were to be a badge of honor demonstrating that you have mastered all aspects of the game, not just those parts you want to play while ignoring the rest. Open world PvE, PvP, WvW, dungeons and fractals, everything should contribute some aspect of the Legendary. They got away from this in the years after launch (for example removing WvW maps from 100% map completion and the Gift of Exploration) and being able to buy completed Legendary weapons for gold kind of rendered that whole “badge of honor” thing pointless. So now it’s more a badge of grinding.

While I understand and appreciate your point, the idea that taking nine hours to complete the GoB reward track is “grind” is representative of a lot of what’s gone wrong with the MMO consumer-base.

It only takes nine hours if you have a good WvW team who know what they’re doing. If you’re just zerging around the map, it’ll take quite a bit longer. And if, like me, you despise WvW, it’ll take even longer than that.

You don’t need to play WvW much to make a legendary weapon, and you never need to set foot in PvP at all. The shards of glory and memories of battle are tradeable, so you can get them by farming PvE if you want.

The only thing that makes you step out of PvE is the gift of battle, and you can get that by just doing some of the simpler dailies for a few weeks and using the potions from them to advance the reward track – ones like Big Spender or Master of Monuments that can be completed in a minute or two.

You do need to do WvW to get a gift of battle, no way around it. Several weeks of WvW dailies to get one gift of battle is utterly ridiculous.

Nowhere near as ridiculous as wanting a reward for holistic gameplay without wanting to actually play the game holistically.

I don’t know about that. You’ve never needed to participate in PvP to get a legendary weapon. Even after requiring shards of glory, you can simply buy them from the TP.

“several” implies more than 2. Even so, We’re talking about one gift of battle here. What happens when you need 6 of them to complete your legendary armor? What if you’re working on more than one legendary weapon?

I’m NOT trying to be a jerk when I ask this…

What about being in the “Danger Room” with Taimi was so hard?

I only did this with my main currently, which is a Vanilla Warrior(not with Berserker loaded). I think I was downed once when I dodged past an orb when trying to shut down the flame circles.

Or am I misunderstanding which part was the big challenge to everyone?

What professions are you guys having so much trouble with? Just curious as I bring my other toons up through the story.

I soloed this one with my reaper. Went in completely blind, had it kind of rough when the vet destroyer spawned, but managed to get all the achievements except for two (Kill 40 destroyers with pustule bombs, and prevent the shield from dropping below 50%)

If I took the time to prepare beforehand, I might be able to get the shield achievement as well.

Rising Flame achievements

It never needed all achievements to complete, as there are more than 26. I think there are 31, all told.

But, now one need only complete 23 out of the 31.

Yay!

Its not much of a “Rising Flames mastery” if you can leave out all the hard ones.
Maybe Anet should at least find a more appropriate name for these achievements if they make it casual like this.

Or they could just omit some of the stupid grindy achievements entirely. Like killing 40 destroyers with pustule bombs. considering how many I managed to kill my first time through, I’d have to do that instance 8 more times to get the achievement.

What GPU/CPU should i get?

BlackOcean, it won’t really matter. I’ve got an i7 with an R9 280X. Admittedly the GPU is two years old tech, but I can run everything in this game at max settings. GW2 will reliably crash once or twice per play session (1-2 hours of play) because of the DX9 based engine it runs on.

Erm, that’s terrible advice. If “it doesn’t matter” and he goes and gets an AMD A6, he’s going to hate you forever. It’s true there hasn’t been significant progress in CPU and GPU tech is the last half decade, but that doesn’t mean he can pick any part off the shelf and have a good gaming experience.

I’m on an AMD FX from like 5 years ago. Game runs fine on medium settings.

It was exactly what I’ve come to expect from Anet. Some of the QoL improvements were nice, (salvage all etc.) the balance pass was once again disappointing, and the story snippet we got didn’t feel at all satisfying.

Bloodstone fen is a fun little map, I’m interested to see if Anet will expand gliding skills to other maps in the future.
