25k gravediggers still only puts you at ~12.5k DPS….Which is leagues behind sinister engi or zerker ele. Hell, I think that’s barely on par with ranger DPS.

Still, reaper is tanky enough to unload more perfect rotations in real situations (i.e. where your target is actually trying to kill you) than eles, engis, or rangers.

Reaper is not going to become the next meta profession or anything, but it’s fun as hell and I’m enjoying it.

Gravedigger, with aftercast, has a ~2 second cycle time, assuming you never miss and put it on full cooldown. Divide 25k by 2.

Sinister engineers can output 18-21k dps with perfect rotations, and berserker eles can output similar numbers.

You don’t really need a DPS meter when math exists. But all those numbers are only in theoretical situations where you’re essentially hitting a punching bag. In real situations, where there’s no such thing as a perfect rotation, the gap is much smaller, but there’s still a gap.

DPS isn’t the only measure of a profession’s usefulness either. Engineers and eles provide a great deal more group support than reapers, while still having better DPS. That’s why necromancers have never been “meta.” After all, why take a profession like a necromancer, when you can take one that is objectively better?

I have tried though…My sustain can’t keep up with his auto attack, and I have to save my dodges for the fear and the skeletons.

You need to have necromancers and mesmers for boon strips, and anything for personal condi clear, in addition to the points listed above.

Just be aware, if you’re a necromancer, and you use any of your AoE boon removal, the retal will most likely down you before it gets removed, because most of our boon removal also deals damage.

This is seriously the first time in a mmo where I’ve considered rerolling to a new class. If i didn’t have 100% map completion and full ascended on my ranger I’d be playing something cheesy like a elementalist or revenant

If you don’t have any alts I suggest you do! Every class plays totally different – I have 6 alts and I switch between them constantly whenever I want a breath of fresh air!

I second this. I love my ranger, but playing one class all the time gets boring. Also, reaper is a blast. I highly recommend it if you like melee specs.

You guys must be doing something horribly wrong then, because Ranger is just fine for me. Good damage and team support. Lot’s of stuns and abilities that can break bars. You can literally heal your whole team in a few seconds if they’re positioned well. Try different builds. It feels good to me.

Try a reaper for breaking break bars. Reapers have break bar damage on virtually every button press.

I’m glad you’re enjoying the druid, but I, and many other rangers are not. So I’ve shelved my ranger, and am thoroughly enjoying my reaper. (even with the stupid blighter’s boon nerf)

Event Participation Timeout - Is There A Fix?

I did a pact soldier escort event completely solo, killed all the event spawns, and made sure the event finished. I got no credit.

The event timed out somewhere between the mushroom cave (where you gather scrap metal for faren’s event chain) and the rally point. I suspect it’s because of the spacing of event spawns. I’d be willing to bet that even if I was with a group, we all would have timed out.

It’s a really simple fight that people just can’t seem to grasp.

The lich has 3 noteworthy attacks:

The first, where he quickly rises up and strikes the ground, causing a large amount of damage and inflicting fear.

The second, where he creates an aoe which causes minimal damage and immobilize. Each player/pet/minion struck spawns a skeleton. This attack can and should be dodged. (dodge when you see the ground change color) Dodging prevents skeletons from spawning on you.

The third, where he rises up slowly, then strikes the ground. This kills any skeletons spawned by the previous attack, and any skeleton killed heals the lich by a fair amount.

So, if you can’t dodge the skeleton spawn, you’ll want to kill them before he can perform his lifesteal attack. The small skeletons cast AoE retaliation on themselves and the lich, so boon removal is extremely important.

That’s basically all there is to it.

Ranger will never be good

It’s much more fun to win with a class that everyone says is bad.

While that may be true, it is totally unfair that some classes are significantly inferior and far harder to do well on than others.

Especially in the case of a class like Ranger, which is a class (with its bow[s] and cute pets) that typically appeals to newer players.

It does not give a good first impression of the game and will likely lead to an unnecessarily poor retention of those newer players.

It’s just really poor judgement, on Anet’s part.

I actually find most content easier with my ranger than with my guardian. I haven’t played fractals since HoT, but I ran scale 50s on my ranger with no problems.

Of course, I think it’s just because I’m the world’s worst guardian player.

Still, I’m tired of constantly getting the short end of the proverbial stick, so my ranger is shelved until further notice.

not fussed about the 50% damage reduction.

Jellyfish also have an uncontrollable smoke field…but no one gives a kitten about underwater content.

I agree though, removing the smoke field from the pet’s F2 was stupid and unnecessary.

I like my melee zerker ranger, but reaper also scratches that itch…and does a more satisfying job of it.

Still, my ranger handles HoT content much better than my reaper (possibly a combination of reaper having no real ranged presence combined with the fact that I haven’t fully unlocked its traits/skills)

I don’t want to retire my ranger….but lets just say I’ll be playing my reaper a lot more in the coming months.

I honestly don’t mind the gated story mode. Collecting the hero points is fun and doing the events is fun, playing the game and getting experience is fun.
However, not being able to do that on the class you were looking forward to isn’t fun.
That is literally the only thing they need to change imo, the elite spec gate

Collecting hero points in the jungle is about as far away from fun as you can get in my experience. Half of the hero points are gated behind masteries, and the other half are guarded by champion mobs that you have to kill in 4 minutes or less.

In fact, I can tell what the hero point is going to be before I even click on it, which leads me to just passing up hero points because I know I won’t be able to solo whatever champion kitten comes out.

Do we think that everyone is going to stop complaining and calm down in a weeks time when they fully unlock their elite spec for their chosen mains?

Those Hero Points in Heart of Thorns are utterly bad.

5min for killing a champ solo which not only hit like a truck, also CC and heals up or stealth.

A few months ago: We want harder open world content ArenaNet!

Decently challenging hero point challenges that require you to group in a MMO are implemented.

Forums this week: We want easier open world content!

It’s not the challenge that I don’t like, it’s the massive grind. Locking hero points behind masteries, locking map progression behind masteries, locking story progression behind masteries, etc. Not to mention needing 400 hero points to fully unlock your elite spec. That’s more hero points than it takes to fully unlock all traits and skills for a core character.

Anet didn’t raise the level cap, but all this exp and hero point grinding sure makes it feel like they did.

Revive cancel bug

Using a skill, swapping weapons, or pressing a movement key will cancel the reviving animation. Mashing movement keys doesn’t seem to be as responsive as activating a skill or swapping weapons though.

Not actually. For several times I have tried to cancel reviving by moving away, shooting skills and even dodging, none of them worked. In my case, the most reliable way to cancel it is by jumping or something. It’s really frustrating when you are being attacked but can’t defend you and your ally because the game prioritizes reviving. In fact, it’s unreliable as it can act differently in certain cases.

It’s no use to prioritize reviving when you can be vulnerable to attacks and then making the reviving skill completely useless (how can you help someone if you also get downed?). I think it could prevent you from small movements or hitting skills when having no target while reviving, because those could be done accidentally, but it should prioritize skills when under attack as well dodging without question.

dodging doesn’t work while channeling a revive. But everything I mentioned in my post works, and if you’re a necromancer, entering/leaving death shroud will also instantly cancel a revive.

This change reduces duration of conditions applied by 95% and the amount of direct damage by 95%.

Just for clarification, the damage reduction won’t apply to [Empathic Bond], activated [Signet of Renewal], and [Protect Me] right?

And what about placing a spirit/pets to block projectiles from Old Tom in the Fractals?

I’m curious about the first part myself.

On the second part: I do that to Old Tom all the time. My drakes can facetank his entire poison bolt barrage before I even have to swap them. If the 95% damage reduction applies to old tom’s AoE, that just means I can slot 2 cats instead of 2 drakes.

Bowstrings don’t appear in the character window or in weapon previews. Kudzu has always had a bowstring, though it sometimes bugs out and doesn’t render.

So which is the bug? The ugly string that doesn’t fit the weapon (and the same string that was part of the icebow bowstring glitch) or when the string doesn’t render at all, which looks much better?

The bug is when the bowstring doesn’t render. It’s a bug that occasionally happens to all bows.

Berserker was killed first. It resurrected and then fused with firestorm. Berserker does not fight like that. If you were not too busy being the internet kittenbag, you’d have seen that. Then again that’s the fun about sharing.

It’s literally what happens when you kill the firestorm first. If your group really did kill the berserker first, and then had to fight his powered up form, then you managed to break the game in a way I’ve never seen before.

I’ll keep doing arah to maintain my lead as person with most arah tokens, but I would not be telling the truth to say that I might have a lot lower motivation than I already do. Don’t really care about the gold that much, it’s the tokens that matter the most but still it’s like getting kicked in the groin… we don’t deserve to get treated like this.

Even if dungeons aren’t worked on anymore it’s stupid to shun people that play them.

So yeah the dungeons gold nerf does kitten me off, but I can’t say I’m surprised considering the track record here. They have disappointing their playerbase down to a science tbh, they’re like the Comcast of the gaming industry for me right now.

Speaking of that, did you reach 100k ?

Collect enough and you can build your own elder dragon.

Honestly, I’d say it’s insufficiently different from the existing Superior Runes of the Ice~

(5) +100 Vitality
(6) +20% Chill Duration; +7% damage against chilled foes

I’m still reluctant to promote more (6) +damage% runes and doubly so when the 1/3/5 stat is offense-oriented.

Death Perception + Decimate Defenses + a large amount of personal Vulnerability application. Focus #4 alone, if you hit 3 bounces on 1 target, would give you 12 stacks of vuln, and 25% chance to crit on that target.

I was referring to the changes i made to the quoted rune set, but the forum screwed up my format.

Can you create a new LFG while in a LFG? At work right now so can’t try this.

Any party member can change the current LFG or create a new one.

In Final Fantasy XIV, Bots are easy to spot above ground if the botmaster doesn’t physically use the bots, since bots in FFXIV don’t actually input anything, so they stay in AFK Status even when jumping, or using skills. (Using a skill or jumping manually with actual inputs causes AFK Status to be removed.) Would be something if GW2 did something similar.

That could be solved pretty easily with an arduino and some legos.

The problem isn’t unique to the sword. It’s the fact that skills with fixed animations (leaps and dashes) override other actions, and cannot be overridden themselves.

In a more fluid action combat system, skills like this could be cancelled by dodge rolling. But arenanet doesn’t do this because….Possibly something to do with how the skills are coded.

While leaping around the battlefield makes the ranger’s sword feel unique, it’s more frustrating than fun. I’m still not holding my breath for a fix though.

So moment of clarity:

100% longer stun and daze duration and
Gain attack of opportunity on interrupt.

Is too strong with druid. Especially skills like astral form 3 (6s daze on a (5s) cooldown). On the flip side the trait is balanced on regular ranger because regular rangers only have access to Hilt Bash and Shortbow 5. (Pigs don’t really count)

I propose the addition of an ICD to the duration portion of the trait. Say 15s. This would have no effect on regular rangers because they only reasonably take one of their two stuns which both have a cool down longer than 15s. This would reduce the oppressive nature of the combo on druid without ruining the trait for regular rangers.

Thoughts?

that would leave Healer Druids defenseless in PvP when they get focused fired.

Also, quick draw is a thing, and an ICD of 15 seconds would ruin that synergy.

Irrespective of your point, as the celestial daze:
- is limited to celestial form
- has a red circle tell
- can be dodged
- can be stun-broken
- is hard countered by stability

… your approach to solving problems is to nerf the core ranger through adding more ICD to this game? ICDs are the cancer of this game’s mechanics. Traits should be balanced properly rather than overpowered and later limited in use. There’s skills with visible cooldowns for that. Through picking up traits, you are deliberately trying to put the emphasis on some skills. Having ICDs all over the place kills that emphasis.

I’m not sure who your “regular rangers” are who pick Moment of Clarity and equip a single daze, and a short one at that, but if they feel that’s a good deal, i’ve got a bridge to sell them.

I’ll add another one to your list

  • Can only be used 3 times before celestial form runs out and you have to fill the bar again.

Enter the council level in Rata Sum, then jump off the side and try to make it all the way to the bottom of the city without hitting anything on the way down. I find it excellent practice.

You can move slightly in all directions while falling, which you need to use to your advantage to stick the watery landing in this jumping puzzle. For the record, it took me 4 attempts to land that dive.

You don’t need death perception at all with decimate defenses, unless you have base precision. And even then, I wouldn’t run full valkyrie/cavalier on a reaper anyway, because you still lose out on some crit chance when out of shroud.

25 vuln on a target with decimate defenses is apparently a 50% crit rate increase, which already puts me at 100% crit rate in full berserker gear.

Right and good luck using full berserker gear in PvP without dying instantly, which is what most people are referencing, PvP.

When people reference pvp, they generally say “amulet” instead of gear. If you’re referring to wvw, I don’t play it anymore, and I don’t recall anyone mentioning wvw specifically.

Could it be that people have just been using VP for so long that they can’t imagine a build without it? Or did Reaper give people a reason to sit in Shroud, and now they want to sit in Shroud and feel that they should be able to without baking Shroud traits into a Shroud build?

A lot of Reaper builds focus on using Shroud as their primary damage due to the incredible Decimate Defenses/Death Perception synergy. You absolutely don’t need VP for every single build, but you do need it for builds that expect to stay in Shroud for longer periods of time, which is something a lot of Necromancer builds tend to want. So it ends up being something that is never bad to take, but very, very often bad to not take.

Also, someone said Reaper’s Shroud degenerates faster than Death Shroud. Is that true? If so, that just seems like a bug.

It isn’t that it literally degenerates faster. It is melee, which means you are going to take more incidental damage from abilities than an up to 1200 range shroud. It has the same damage reduction and 4% base degeneration. However, Reaper’s Shroud has vastly higher sustain potential, the auto attack chain can generate LF faster than it degenerates with VP (another reason VP is strong), so you can actually start with say 50% LF and push it up to 100%, though this would never happen in normal combat.

[Decimate Defenses] needs more info. How long does the buff last? Is there a cap? What is the duration of each stack?

Currently there is no indicator whatsoever that this trait works, other than noticing more critical hits in combat, which is anecdotal at best.

This isn’t how that trait works. Whenever you hit an enemy with Vulnerability on them, your crit chance against that target is increased by 2% per stack. You do not get any buff on yourself for it, there are no stacks involved, it just checks for vuln and applies the crit.

I still feel like a bit of clarification is in order. If the trait read something like: “Striking a foe suffering from vulnerability increases your critical hit rate against that foe by 2% per stack of vulnerability” I wouldn’t have been confused. It’s a bit more wordy, but I feel like it conveys a clearer sense of what the trait actually does.

If you’re talking about linen/cotton/wool, run some caudecus’s manor. The bags dropped by the bandits in there contain tons of the stuff. I’m honestly surprised it’s such an unpopular dungeon, given how rewarding it is.

If dungeons aren’t your thing, go find a map with level 40ish bandits and mercilessly slaughter them.

The tooltip says “stun” but the debuff that actually gets applied is called “reaper’s chill” and like the ice bow’s deep freeze, cannot be broken by stunbreak skills.

The fact that chilled to the bone can be both dodged and blocked is a little sad for it being an elite skill.
