Aegis is vastly inferior to blind on bosses because blind can be so easily applied.
I find it difficult to take you seriously after reading this.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I never liked the group system in this game. I actually see more abuse with this system than with a traditional party leader system.
Proposed solution: Implement a party leader system. When you form a party, you are the leader. Anyone in your party can invite other players, but you are the only one allowed to kick players. No voting required. Leadership can be passed to other members if desired. If you are the leader and suddenly leave the party, leadership is automatically transferred to the next party member in chronological order.
If it aint broke, don’t fix it.
And then your leader in raid say when 70% of raid is done -ok guys carry me while I go to the store.
Raids are an interesting creature, since you would need 6 people in agreement to votekick someone.
Regardless, even if that scenario happened, would you really not be able to finish the raid with one person AFK? Certainly better than one ignoramus and 5 of his friends kicking you when the raid is 70% done so they could invite one of their guildies who just logged on.

Two lightning hammers in a water field gives you both proactive and reactive defenses. (not that any of your proactive field combos work on bosses anyway)
GG.
Fields don’t stack. Also blind reduced the break bar last I checked, weakness still reduces their damage, frost armor gives you a passive 10% damage reduction, and stealth prevents you from getting focus fired by the boss.
GG.
I know fields don’t stack, but blast finishers do.
Do you even lightning hammer?
Blind reduces break bars, but so does other soft CC that’s more readily available (like cripple). Weakness doesn’t reduce the effectiveness of critical hits, and only lasts 50% as long on bosses. Blasting a water field heals for more than that 3 seconds of 10% damage reduction will prevent.
I’m not saying other fields aren’t useful, but in the current meta, spamming blast finishers in a water field is basically like turning on god mode.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Does not exceed the blanket speed cap of 33% out of combat, 25% in combat.
I’m fairly certain that “in combat” bit is incorrect.
In combat:
- I notice a speed increase when using swiftness versus Signet of the Hunt passive (minor)
- I notice a speed increase when using Quickening Zephyr over swiftness (major)
Essentially, with super speed (in combat) I move at about the same rate as I do outside of combat with signet of the hunt.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I personally have used it a lot on my necro as it has a lot of synergy with us. While it is totally outshined by the dps of Lich Form, it does offer an alternative if you aren’t a fan of Elite Forms or the Flesh golem. I feel it will be totally outdone when HoT is released and we get the “Chilled to the bone” elite, which causes aoe chill with 2 second stun on 90s cooldown (can be traited for less).
It’s not just a chill. It’s basically an AoE deep freeze.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I’m not talking about a 100% perfect scenario. Thats another point I’ve been arguing against. That the meta builds are often run as perfect scenarios and believed that they are even when they’re not. I’m talking about chaos. In a chaotic situation I can keep up 25 stacks of might and vulnerability at all times, I can keep myself at full health, I can maintain perma chill. I can boon strip without a problem. I’ve done the testing in the beta. I ran fractals and dungeons on my reaper. I’ve run organized events. I did it specifically to test their usefulness in groups. And its astounding! We are absolutely amazing. Extremely valuable.
There is some truth in what you say, with the reaper able to do what you say. ANd we are astoundingly good at that. But we are not able to merge into a group. All of this goes to nought only for one reason : If you play in a party you have to do your share of teamwork. Being a lone wolf may be super awesome for solo content but fall short as soon as you are in a party.
Everybody here can see that there is a clear inegality between the value of the different field. Let’s admit it, there is no field that can beat the fire field when it come to offence power. There is no field that beat the water field when it come to defensive power as well. The necromancer got none of them. The necromancer is stuck with the poison field, dark field and light field which effect (on top of their utilities) are totally negligible in PvE. The necromancer is also stuck by unreliable combo finisher.
In a groupe you’ll always be judged by what you can do for your party and how well you will perform with your teammate. A group have to work as a whole, you just can rely on a lone wolf.
Anet’s balance of profession (and elite spec) is very good for sPvP but, they tend to hurt some professions by the restriction they put on PvE and by the fact that they don’t foresee how some skill will perform in a highly dangerous environment (ex : Gyro will most likely only be used with the fact in mind that they will be destroyed instantly).
What we absolutely need Anet to do is to put our field on the same level as the fire field or the water field. We need Anet to make those field wanted and this is here that we will become valuable for the group. The necromancer don’t need heavy change or whatever, it only need that it’s tools gain enough value in the PvE environment so that the necromancer itself become a valuable asset for a party. And from what we could see at the moment, this is not the case.
I’m saying it again, the necromancer do not need to solo the content, he need to be valuable for a party. No party will take a necromancer because he can put 25 stack of vulnerability regardless of it’s team mate. This thing have no value for the party simply because there is no teamwork in it.
NB.: I would also like you to consider the fact that Anet introduce something they call the break bar. The Break bar is meant to weaken boss in a way that it garantee a dps window of a few second. We could say that It’s basically a tool designed for the current meta.
Well, you got a few things wrong here. First, the fire field isn’t the best for damage. Its good, but when you compare it to a dark field the raw damage output from. Now the fire field only wins in blast finishers. When it comes to leaps even, Light field wins this one. But when compared projectile finishers or whirl the dark field wins out with higher raw damage. Lighting field also has more utility in both those categories as well. Its just people under value other types of finishers and over value blast finishers.
Water field isn’t the best defensive field either. And something I’ve explained over and over again, reaction will always play second fiddle to pro-action. Which actually makes Ice fields, Poison fields, dark fields and smoke fields are superior to it in terms of defense. Water field is the best at healing. Nothing else. But that’s not a defense. Its a reaction to damage. It doesn’t reduce or stop damage. Poison Fields, ice fields and dark fields actually provide proactive defense while water does not. You gain no benifit from blasting a water field at full health. You do gain a huge benefit from blasting the other fields or leaping or what have you. Pro-action > reaction. Blind and weakness are extremely valuable in challenging content that require the use of your abilities.
You’re underestimating the value of other fields outside of what the “Meta” told you is best and its not even true. I don’t know who invented this insane concept but its just false.
… They don’t need to put the other fields on the “Same level” as water and fire. They’re better! They’re straight up better. They provide more damage, higher active defenses and control! Something that fire and water fields seriously lack. Fire and water have their uses, but they’re over rated.
Two lightning hammers in a water field gives you both proactive and reactive defenses. (not that any of your proactive field combos work on bosses anyway)
GG.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
uhh….what?
Out of combat, swiftness and super speed provide the same boost, due to hitting the movement speed cap. In combat, super speed provides a noticeable increase in speed versus swiftness.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I think it’s far too late for Zhaitan. He’s dead in the story, he’s not an open world boss and he’s not part of a dungeon. I think the benefits of revamping the fight do not outweigh the costs. Anet should focus on two things: 1) repeatable content (i.e. dungeons, fractals, open world bosses etc) and 2) new content (i.e. living world and expansions). Anything else is a waste of resources in my opinion.
Anet has proven that they can create interesting boss fights within story instances. (See: Living story Season 2)
I feel like a revamp of that fight needs to happen. Abandoning old content for the sake of new content is something every MMO does, and it’s not a healthy practice in the long run.

I really thought there’d be more of these self-pitying threads today. I’m very disappointed.
You are looking at it incorrectly it just shows the amount of apathy anet has cultivated in the ranger community.
Apathy doesn’t even begin to describe it.
I’m betting the twitchcon reveal will be sub 10 minutes, at best. I’m not going to stop playing my ranger, but if the reaper makes it through the next BWE without too many nerfs, I’ll definitely be hopping camps to necromancer-land.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I think the bigger question is can greatsword replace Staff in terms of damage, defense and most importantly: Life Force Generation.
Damage: yes
Defense: yes
Life force: yes -if running soul marks: no
GS far outstrips staff in terms of damage, and has a pulsing blind field, which is far better than 1 second of fear.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
What’s the point of this thread exactly?
Dagger doesn’t need a nerf, and GS doesn’t need a buff. They’re both perfectly fine.
(axe does need love though)
-BnooMaGoo.5690
You do know unlocking the Reaper line will give you a new Greatsword skin designed specifically for them, yes?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I guarantee you there will never be a situation where a raid wipes and somebody thinks “I bet we died because we brought the Reaper…”.
There will always be someone who thinks this.
While I was beta testing my reaper in Caudecus’s manor I thought this myself.
Every time my group wiped, I thought “If I was playing my guardian right now, that wouldn’t have happened”. Though, to be fair to the reaper, no one is better at carrying bad pugs than a guardian.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
i think this skill is the one we saw in trailer against the wood hounds
there are literally 3 jumps, so its somehow desperate to use this as a reason to get a bug back
Swoop is a dash followed by a leap.
/logic
Regardless, It’s still (potentially) 3 leap finishers on one skill. A double leap finisher on a 2 part skill is an unintended bug, but a triple leap finisher on a 3 part skill is an intended feature? Seems legit.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Wait until we see it tomorrow?
It’s probably like revenant skill where you move forward full distance. With swoop you either needed a target inside your healing spring for double heal or needed to move to edge of healing spring first.
I don’t really think it will be as good as old swoop/old healing spring.
The old swoop would proc the double finisher regardless of where you started, as long as you hit a combo field with it. The new single finisher swoop seems kind of buggy.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I know, i know the Reaper is in some situation a huge update for every Necro … But on the other hand we are maybe the only Elite who is gonna lose something -> Death Shroud.
Other elite just have to trade a Traitline and its already worth ( buffed F-skills, traits, weapons etc. ), you can play your new elite like your old Class, just with some Buffs.
- You can play your Daredevil just like your old Thief, with 3 dodges ( and even more ) …
- you can just play your Dragonhunter like your Guardian just with buffed F-Skills ( and even more )
- You can play your Chrono like a Mesmer, with an OP F5 Skills ( and you know … )We can play Reaper, and lose for example our only worth period rangeddamage ( Shroud 1 ) … automaticly. It feels like we are the only Elite where something is completly replaced … its okay because i think this should be the thing ( old classes shouldnt just be worthless/replaced ) … But compared to all other elite it feels … not fair
sorry for bad english <2+1
First of all, Dragonhunter virtues are a downgrade from standard virtues. I hope Anet will address this, but I’m not holding my breath.
Honestly, I prefer reaper’s shroud to death shroud. Life blast may deal more damage, but it doesn’t cleave. Both the GS and reaper’s shroud gives necromancers the melee presence they were sorely lacking.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
So I was reading the Scrapper reveal on the main page, when this caught my eye:
Rocket Charge
Dash forward with a rocket-charged hammer to damage enemies.
With this skill you’ll bound three times to your target, allowing you to rapidly enter the thick of battle. This leap finisher will accumulate the effects of any combo field you pass through for an even more devastating arrival.
Based on the description, it sounds like this skill will either proc multiple leap finishers, or be a single leap finisher capable of triggering multiple fields at once.
So, can rangers have our double leap finisher back please? Seriously though, does anyone have any sort of idea how Rocket Charge will work?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Let’s see. Signet of undeath: elite.
Passive: Generate 2% life force per second while in combat.
Active: Inscribe a mark onto target area that revives downed allies (cast time 3 seconds) Those allies are revived with 50% health, plus an additional percentage based on your current life force. (max 75%)
-BnooMaGoo.5690
(edited by Quarktastic.1027)
It has 30 sec CD because the skill you guyz never used and probably never will use has the very same cooldown.
Blame warhorn, not the trait.
I use it for blasting smoke fields, because it’s our only ooc blast finisher.
:/
-BnooMaGoo.5690
This also means they have worked on the class the longest. Not to be too hopeful.
Just because they’ve revealed the other elite specs doesn’t mean they’re finished or that they’ve stopped working on them.
All this means is the druid (and the forge) will get the least amount of testing, since they will only be playable in one beta event.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Ive been playing GW2 since the beggining.. I dont play much these days.
My main problem with GW2 and Ranger is that pets are a bad design.
They took some power from the Ranger and put it in a AI. Huge mistake, noone will enjoy it. We all want to have total control over our class.. Noone wants his % dmg to run around in circles.. Huge mistake and never aknowledge it, at least not officially
As a ranger main since launch, I can confidently say that I have 100% control over my class.
Though, the more I play my necromancer, the more I prefer it to my ranger.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Two problems I have with reaper:
1) It looks more damage based than condition based-Great sword and Rs is good getting close and personal. The chill is good but isn’t worth spec into that line where another useful line could be used and Greatsword does nothing for me Staff with soul mark can do better.
2)Rs can be kited/ LF loss is too great-Just to piggyback off the previous point, I’m fully condition based, not damage based meaning I have no reason to be in the middle of fight where I just melt to everything. That being said Rs is too predictable and easily kited out of it. It was said reaper was made for multiple group fights, yet when you get focus fired the LF drops dramatically and you die.
First off, yes, GS is a power weapon. Condi reaper is a thing though, it just runs scepter instead of GS. With Dhuumfire, combined with RS faster attack speed, stacking burns is pretty easy. Death spiral is also a very solid poison spike. (I was getting near 2k poison ticks with 0 condition damage).
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Moisting? Ew no. But it’s not a terrible idea.
I think the way for them to sell more of these things is to actually make each one as useful as the watchwork pick. Maybe give each different type of pick a chance for a different extra resource, and bonuses for the logging axes and sickles too.
The problem there is, not all resources are created equal. Some will always be more valuable than others, making certain mining/gathering tools more popular than the rest.
Anet opened a can of worms that should never have been opened. I feel like the chance to get watchwork sprockets should be removed from the watchwork pick, and another way to obtain them should be introduced.
- And before anyone gets on my case about this, yes, I own a watchwork pick myself.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Well, technically it “works” but on as asura it places the halo inside your head, so you just see a bit sticking out of your forehead like a weird headband.
There are other issues with big hair/headgear on other races as well from what I understand.Added pic
The last time I used my selfless potion on my asura, the halo was fully above his head, but placed too far forward. Having a forehead piercing doesn’t look too appealing though.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Craft it again. I had a similar problem with a whole set of armor from Orr that I got rid of before the wardrobe. I’ll just have to buy it again if I want it.
The original mad memories cannot be crafted again. Unless there’s some secret recipe I don’t know about.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I chose Glint’s Crystal. It looks good on my new necromancer.

…If that happens, the community we all love so dearly could begin to take a serious downward spiral. You mean even more than after their last Mordrem Leeching event?
Everyone I know (including me) admitted that the event made them more selfish and douchy then ever. And I don’t even want to talk about the newcomers who didn’t even hold the friendly nature from before.
I skipped the event after realizing I couldn’t get enough blooms to get all 4 of the (former) gem store skins. Does that make me selfish?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Sigged for truth
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I disagree about Executioner’s Scythe becoming a 3 hit combo, but I like the idea of it finishing downed enemies.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The revival off Scarlet Briar: it is bad enough that the writers want to shove her down our throat (even when she is dead she still haunts us) every possible chance during LS, but a full revival? I would scream. The only upside is that I can kill her. Again.
And again. And again. And again. And again.
Cause ya know, Mordy can make as many as he wants.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I feel like a lot of people arguing “it would break every map ever” are just parroting what Anet has said, which I believe isn’t entirely true.
Old maps are relatively flat. There are very few places where one could get enough height to glide beyond a map boundary or some other map breaking barrier. Some jumping puzzles and vistas could be broken by gliding, and those would have to be reworked. As for having to redo collision meshes for entire maps: Try looking at some of the old maps in Tyria 3D. They’re quite comprehensive as far as collision goes.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Why excited for Gliding but not UnderWater?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Quarktastic.1027
No one likes underwater combat in this game because its horribly, horribly unbalanced. Every single balance pass we’ve had in this game has completely ignored underwater skills. As a result, you have some classes that can basically blow through it without blinking, and other classes who are woefully underpowered.
Its been neglected so much that when ANet redid the trait system, they completely removed all the traits that affected underwater weapons and skills.
You’re forgetting the legendary aquaman patch rangers got shortly after launch. But yes, underwater combat (in general) is bad and developers should feel bad about including it in their games.

I was hoping the nights would be darker in the jungle.
If that prompt wasn’t there (or if my sylvari didn’t glow in the dark) I’d never be able to tell the difference.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
With the announcement of the reaper, I just had to make a necromancer.
Here he is, currently plotting his next evil scheme (of tying women to railroad tracks).
-BnooMaGoo.5690
That node spawn point has been there since launch. I’ve submitted at least 4 bug reports on the subject.
The only way it was ever reachable, was to get yourself stuck inside the ground using a blink skill. I don’t think you can do that anymore though.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
That anet nerfs the reaper into oblivion and obscurity.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The only reason I’m holding off fully investing into Reaper just yet is my fear that it won’t be needed or desired in raids. Judging from the game design presented in dungeons and fractals at the moment, I’m just a certain kind of paranoid we’ll be, once more, the definition of bottom tier for PvE.
Even if we are, I’m loving the hell out of the necromancer, and I love the hell out of the reaper.
I’ll probably skip raids anyway…I’ve seen the kind of people they attract.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Ok so, I’ve made my decision.
Meet Scythely Whiplash.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Make a norn and rejoice in the glorious face fur!
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Never having played a necromancer before the last beta event, I personally love the reaper and the greatsword.
I’ll be playing it when HoT launches.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Bumping for great justice.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Vulnerability is the only debuff that always works in every situation and any party composition can reach the cap without even trying. Thanks to unshakable, which every champion or above mob has, blind is 10% as effective and weakness lasts 50% less time. Chill has no effect on most bosses except for a handful like the mossman. Most mobs don’t heal so poison isn’t useful either. Nor we see a lot mobs with buffs that can be stripped or corrupted. :-/
I remember the searing effigy boss in CoF before they nerfed his regeneration. You basically had to keep him poisoned 100% of the time or he just wouldn’t die. I’d like to see at least a couple bosses like that in HoT.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I suspect that Necro with Reaper spec is not the highest damage class. Nor does it have the most group support. It’s likely not even the most survivable. However it scores pretty high in both AE damage and survivability. And most importantly the darn spec is amazingly fun. Even if it does not make it in the meta (although it might if AE damage with reasonable survivability will be needed), I can see myself playing it a lot.
Given that it’s brainlessly simple for a reaper to stack might/vulnerability, and excellent passive defenses, I can see a great deal of casual players picking it up. Ele might still be the top DPS/support/icebowbot, but when I want easymode without much effort, I’ll be playing the reaper.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
This really depends on what you want. Personally, I’m adding a spider motif to most of my character names. If you aim for some dramatic sounding name, it may feel goofy to you like the email address you made when you were a kid (if you did that lol). If you don’t have any motifs in mind, I can churn up a few.
My sylvari necromancer was going to have a sort of weathered tree theme going on, lots of autumn colors and earth tones.
I made a mustachioed norn necro and named him Scythely Whiplash…but I’m not sure how I feel about punny names.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Gender?
Male.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The imbued shaman is difficult if your group doesn’t have enough reflects/isn’t able to kill the lava elementals quickly enough. Ranger’s are pretty light on reflects (lolwhirling defense) and don’t have enough AoE to quickly deal with the elementals.
Guardians and eles make this fight easymode. If you had brought a guardian instead of your ranger, you probably could have carried your whole group through that imbued shaman fight.
To be fair though, My ranger is my only character with enough AR to run scale 50 fractals, and I suck at playing my guardian in high level fractals. But there are two fights I absolutely dread when I’m pugging fractals with my ranger. One is the imbued shaman, and I’m sure you could easily guess the second one. Because I know that if my group is bad, my ranger won’t be able to carry them through either of those fights.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I’ve had my heart set on making a necromancer after playing the reaper in the last beta, but I’m at odds with myself when it comes to making up a name. I’d really like to make a sylvari necromancer, but I also have a norn in mind.
I was wondering if I could get some suggestions to get my brain juices flowing.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
You people kill me. Try another class, then come back and tell me how awesome we are, totally delusional i swear. A Tempest can out damage you, a guardian can make you inept as far as survival? What the are you playing?
I played both a guardian and a reaper in verdant brink (vanilla guardian, none of that dragonhunter crap) I had an easier time surviving as a reaper.
I’ve been playing guardian for nearly 3 years. That reaper was my very first necro. So yeah, your mileage may vary.
