Shroud / Reaper Shroud Toggle Cooldown

Such a cooldown is already on place for Reaper’s Shroud.

It needs to be removed. Furious Demise, Foot in the Grave, and Life From Death are all traits that are worth flashing for, and Reapers can’t do that.

Reaper’s shroud has skills worth staying in shroud for. Namely, that 8 seconds of stability. (the tooltip says 1 stack, but I noticed the skill actually pulsing 3 stacks.)

I agree completely with signet passive in Shroud but itll never happen unless signet of undeath doesnt work in Shroud. because alot of people would hate that even though I would love it.

Its 2% LF every three seconds (roughly 300 DS hp if not wearing any vitality gear at level 80). DS degenerates faster than that, even with Vital Persistence active. Its like a worse regeneration boon but for LF only. Anyone that would complain about this would be doing so just for the sake of complaining. No one takes Signet of Undeath for the LF generation.

An interesting change if signet passives worked in shroud: Signet of undeath passive: Generate life force while in combat, if death (reaper’s) shroud is active, generate health instead.

This is a sad state of affairs.

I remember the Pet Name bug being an issue back when the game first released. I just figured they COULDN’T fix it. Not wouldn’t.

As Ranger is my favorite class/profession, I am disappointed that it’s doing so badly. No communication, not acknowledgement of the problem(s), no attempts to finish it…

It’s like a wildfire that has been burning for 3 years. How is that even possible? And I feel bad. I thought Anet had good communication with its players as I’ve only been back to the game for 2 months after a year+ hiatus. That is not the case however.

Our only hope is that Druid comes with an overhaul for the entire profession… but I don’t see that as likely… and I don’t think anyone does.

The pet name issue is something I have never seen in any MMO that has a dedicated pet class. My ranger has been my main since launch, but after playing the whirling god of death that is the reaper, I’m fast becoming a necromancer convert.

Stop facetanking bosses. They are bosses. If it’s facing you, you back up. They don’t give two thoughts about how much armor you have, they will still kick your teeth in. If there’s a twelve foot tall fat frog with a hammer the size of a motorcycle, and he hits you with it, it’s gonna hurt no matter how tanky you are.

Armor makes surviving skirmishes with groups of trash mobs easier, but it’s effect diminishes in the face of monsters where your only hope is evasion, not mitigation [ex. Diarmid]. Higher armor lets you wade through trash and veterans with more impunity and leeway. That’s fine, that’s mostly what it’s for.

Bosses in HoT, however, more than anywhere else, are designed specifically to tear through large zergs without mercy. If you’re in the zerg, you’re gonna go down if you can’t keep up. You sink or swim. You learn fast, or you die a lot. That’s how it goes.

I was playing a valkyrie reaper with zerker trinkets, and even in scaled up zergs, I was able to facetank a lot of the champs. Does that mean reaper is OP?

What GPU do you guys have?

Keep eye on your gpu usage. If its at 100% for most of the time with uncapped fps, its a bottleneck.

I have used gtx550ti too with an i7-2600k cpu. 550ti was definately a bottleneck for me during those times. Now with a gtx970, gpu usage stays at around 50% while the game uses the most of the cpu it can (around 35-40%).

In case you are going to buy a new gpu, keep in mind that its not a guaranteed huge fps increase. Your cpu might be a bottleneck just a bit after your gpu.

Dont expect 60fps in every situation. Wvw fights will continue to impact fps even on expensive systems.

Before buying anything i recommend messing around with graphics settings. Autodetect is usually not the best option for performance.

I keep V-sync turned on pretty much all the time, but I never get above 60FPS even with my FPS uncapped. In most areas of the game, My GPU usages hovers between 50 and 80%. It’s only a few distinct areas of the game where it caps at 100%. The mossman’s room in the swampland fractal is one of those areas. In my experience, Nvidia cards don’t like really heavy shader effects, water and shadows especially. (which is why I always have shadows and reflections turned off).

If you play with a class you know nothing about obviously is going to be really difficult.

I made my very first ever Necromancer yesterday to try out the reaper. For the first 2 hours or so, I was literally just spamming buttons and killing everything. Once I figured out how2reaper things got even easier.

Honestly, it might just be a case of the reaper being really strong. But I don’t feel like it’s overpowered. Long aftercast delays on skills and slow windup animations caused me to spend a lot of time interrupting my own skills. A lot of the reaper’s defenses also don’t work well against champion mobs, which can’t be CC locked.

Its a bit weird – Im running gw2 and my CPU ussage is not even close to 50%…
And yet Im having some visual downfalls in FPS

It’s something to do with the client being 32 bit, and only using one strand or something like that. I’m a bit fuzzy on the facts. But basically the game will not use all the cores you CPU has. So while its doing the bulk of the work your GPU sits there just chilling. So that might be why your only seeing 50% load as it using one core. It will use another core, but from my understanding of reading different threads on the subject is the game client is poorly optimized and many have called for a 64 bit client to “fix” his problem, as well as calls for the game to have a DX update. As I said, don’t take any of this as fact, as I said I’m a bit fuzzy on the facts as my knowledge is mostly in hardware and not software.

It’s funny though. Even on mid settings, my GPU frequently tops out at 100% load, especially in certain dungeons/fractals. (granted my GPU is 3 years old, but still).

What GPU.do you have? Dose it happen on.other games?

GTX 550Ti. I don’t play too many graphically demanding games though.

How dose the game play under auto detect? Also how much ram do you have, and what CPU?

AMD FX4100 stock. 8GB DDR3. The game plays fine under auto detect, minor lag while zerg surfing.

And it still tops.out at 100% load? Or is it fine? If it’s fine I’d leave it on auto. No point in burning out your card.

It still tops out at 100% in some areas of the game.

Hard hitting mobs Am I doing this wrong?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Quarktastic.1027

With my reaper (cavalier) and my rev (berzerker) I had no trouble at all.
With the daredevil I change from dps to condi and forgot about the staff and all my problems were gone.
I didn’t try other elite spec, but from my friends feedback it’s the same, no trouble at all. But there is some players that complain about mobs being too hard… And as I allready said on others thread, it’s just a L2P situation, once everyone will be use to new class, new AI and new map, it’ll be as easy as gw2vanilla for most of the players.

I’m not playing an elite spec (vanilla DPS guard) and I’m pretty well versed in what the new enemies can do. The content is still difficult to give me pause when encountering 3 or more normal enemies. I find myself taking extra caution around veterans, and avoiding champs like the plague unless there are other players around.

I don’t think the jungle will ever be as easy as vanilla GW2.

Personnaly I had no troubles at all fighting 3 mobs at the same time (reaper and rev). I even had to defend an area alone at night and I didn’t die. So I’m still looking for the “hard encounter” that everyone is talking about. Sure mobs are a bit stronger but nothing you can’t deal with it. Maybe mobs aren’t the problem and people should think again (gear, spec, “skill”). It is normal to die from time to time in a endgame map.

bullf frog are so slow you can avoid (no need to dodge) all of their attack, tallfrog are the most interesting mob to me. Modrems are too squishy or too slow depending wich one. Raptor are just fine, wyvern are so beautifull and yet so weak. And for the smokescale it took me several encounter to understand how to kill them, but again nothing that can’t be done by anyone. Shrooms are boring to fight but fine imo.

Tbh I really expect the next maps to have stronger mobs. But I guess I can keep dreaming.
And yes you are welcome to call me whatever you want if I ever come crying about mobs difficulty. Imo the new mobs only prove to a lot of players that be able to speedrun a dungeons doesn’t mean your good.

This kind of reads like a personal attack. I’m not calling the new mobs “too hard” I’m just saying they’re more difficult than any of the other open world mobs. As for my initial statement, facing 3 mordrem snipers from 3 different directions with my reflects on CD makes me stop and think more than I would if I were about to jump into a pack of risen (read: not at all).

Disappointment with Verdant Brink zone

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

I agree with a lot of what you have to say. I do think that you NEED to have glide and bouncing mushrooms to “properly” explore the zone, and once you do, this exploration is a lot more fun and comfortable. It’s not meant to be explored entirely on foot. On the bright side, the current chunk of map is well into the zone, and I have the feeling that unless you go hardcore into trailblazing and ignore all the content, by the time you reach this area of the map you should probably have those skills in the live game.

I do think that the enemies can be a tad aggressive and dangerous to wandering players, particularly the smokescales and the pocket raptors (which are easy for some classes but a nightmare for others). I think that generally traversing the zone should NOT be a combat challenge, the combat challenges should be reserved for events and “mini dungeon” type areas that are off the beaten path.

Pocket raptors are the best thing since baby quaggans. They have the best monster name too. I just wish they would award experience so killing them would refresh my “on kill” traits.

Guild Wars 2 is crashing my router

in Account & Technical Support

Quarktastic.1027

Finally, after many headaches and frustration, I think I was able to resolve this issue. My Gigabyte 970A-D3P motherboard had a driver on its onboard network card (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) that was causing issues. The latest driver that was installed was not allowing Guild Wars 2 to function properly. After rolling back the driver (to the 6/17/2014 driver, version: 7.88.617.2014) I was able to get the game to work for well over an hour without crashing, which is a marked improvement over the previous 2-5 minute maximum run time. I will post an update tomorrow to let you know if it is still functioning properly.

If that doesn’t work, have you tried doing a factory reset of your router?

As cool as that emblem is, it doesn’t really work when sized down. The foreground models have complex detail that just wouldn’t show up if the image was the size of an actual guild emblem. In fact, I had to look over the image twice just to figure out what the foreground characters were.

Bought new mouse, can't program buttons.

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

Generally you need control software and the driver for the mouse. If the control software detects the mouse however, I’m guessing it’s properly set up (unless it’s cheap software). You can look under the control panel/system/device manager to see the driver being used. If you haven’t restart the computer after installing the driver.

Some control software will automatically change your configuration based on the program you’re using. Trying configuring a button as a single key press, like 1, then try to use that button in a program like Notepad or simply in your address bar. If it doesn’t work at all, either the software is bad or the mouse is. As an alternative, you can try using AutoHotKey to change the buttons, though if Windows isn’t registering those buttons at all, either the driver or the mouse is bad.

I honestly think i’m going to return this mouse for a refund and get something like the Logitech G100s

Up until now, I’ve been using a Logitech M100 which has been perfectly adequate, until the left mouse button developed the infamous double click issue. Since the G100s is essentially the same mouse with a better optical sensor, I feel like it’ll be a more reliable purchase.

Today I wanted to do the first part of CMP1 solo on Thief. Naturally after that I made a casual lfg to finish the path.

Near instantly my party gets filled with level ~50 characters, all with < 1k AP. I waited at the the barn when they bravely entered the mansion.

After 4 minutes they were still inside.

After 8 minutes they were all dead.

All leave except one who then gets enough courage to speak up. I showed him the way and then created LFG again. But that’s another horror story for some other time.

Think about someone getting revealed every skip and then you have to stealthresurrect everyone few times.

I learn from my experience that mesmer is naturally a better carry class in CM p1 than thief. You dont have to stealth your group and make sure they will not reveal themselves. Just tell them to waypoint and take your portal…

So much this, Thief for when I’m teaching people how to do it, Mes for when I’m just looking to get them through it.

I still need to make a mesmer. My ranger and guardian can easily make all of the skips without a thief…but when the rest of your group can’t…being able to portal people would be great.

Dropped a Mountain on Ranger?

Quarktastic.1027

Don’t get me wrong this is not a QQ topic. I love my 2(did for racial skills) level 80 rangers, and I love playing ranger. What I don’t get is why the ranger is neglected/hated.
Why I feel this is so….

  • The ranger npc in the mists practice/waiting area was replaced by a large rock formation (mountain).
  • The pet AI and dozens of bugs not addressed in 3 years (ex. pet naming, sword rooting…etc.)
  • When they do a fix we end up with skills like the current healing spring, and now swoop.
  • The ranger is always the first targeted no matter what size group in wvw.
  • The lack of high end competitive pvp players using ranger.
  • And as of 9/2 I still encounter dungeon messages like the one below. (b4 criticisms fly-not my dungeon build)

Currently, the most common answers I have come across have been that whatever ranger does other profs. do better, the skill level of most players who play ranger are lacking, and anet has given up on the profession.

Then finally when researching and all hope seemed lost, I came upon this video and it made me remember what it’s all about. : )

I really have to ask here, am I the only one who HATES this? Frack am I the only one who is actually trying to have a good time?

Joined three AC dungeons via the LFG tool… each one decided to stack in a tiny corner next to the stairs at the first boss. Didn’t even stay beyond that (Except the first one, who booted me when I wouldn’t join them stacking on the rubble just after the spider) After I realized they weren’t even bothering to split from that, I decided to go to a CM run.

The run started ok. Did the Asura path and were killing things… somewhat well. Aside from three guys deciding to run into a room in range of six mobs instead of sniping down three guys before taking out archers. And skipping Seamus and using the cutscene trick on the guy in the warehouse, fine.

Things started to look bad though when one of the guys started asking for stacking. For every mob. When he said to stack for what’s-her-name (the one who warps around) I stood back and grumbled. Yeah I admit it but kitten, I was bored. I do these dungeons to have fun, not… this.

The final boss though…. again, they decided to do the “stack on a rock” exploit.

Two of them.

The other three of us tried to do it legit. The remaining two simply stood and watched and contributed absolutely nothing until we died, at which point they proceeded to exploit to hell and back, lambasting us the whole way. I didn’t even stay for the reward and just left (Though in hindsight I wish I could have convinced the other two to join me in booting them.).

So I ask you. After all this, am I the ONLY ONE who is actually still trying to have FUN in these dungeons instead of just rushing through everything as fast as fracking possible in the most dull, boring, repetitive, least-effort-requiring way imaginable?

The reason everyone skips Seamus in path 1 is simple. He becomes an ally at 25% and rewards no loot. He’s also a massive pain to fight in that tiny room.

As for the rest of your rant: some people will always seek the most efficient way to do things, even if it’s less “fun.” Dungeons are fun once (OPINION). When you need to run a dungeon 172 times to complete your collection achievement, you seek to do so as quickly and efficiently as possible.

It’s possible to kill Gunpowder Morgan without killing the riflemen on the ledge, but your group needs high reflect uptime to avoid getting noscoped. The cutscene trick just ensures your group can get up on the ledge before the riflemen spawn. (ever been shot by an elite rifleman while moving? It’s an almost guaranteed down in berserker gear)

The next boss doesn’t teleport, but she does stealth. It’s not necessary to stack, but stacking ensures she doesn’t move around while stealthed, allowing your group to continue laying on the DPS.

Regarding Frost: people exploit him because heavy attrition damage (Frost’s main attack) is more difficult to mitigate than burst damage. Berserkers tend to have an especially difficult time with bosses like this.

Tldr: Make your own groups from now on, I guess. I’ll continue stacking and stealth skipping, because I would rather get all three paths done in 30 minutes as opposed to spending 30 minutes per path.

Edit: I didn’t realize just how old this thread was. Joke’s on me I guess.

I’ll just leave this here anyway.

Druid better be something special

Druid will be staff ele in water attunement and a pet. Calling it now.

And part of the reason anet doesn’t do anything with ranger is because they get played anyway, despite the fact that they are a lackluster class. Sure, I like bows, so Ranger would be ideal right? No. I can make better, higher performing builds with warrior and thief. (and so I do).

Yeah, Rangers were in a good place when you could run a longbow build that hammered out 25k dmg rapid fires, but since the trait overhaul in preparation to HoT, that’s no longer possible so folks are going back to the older, less effective builds.

I simply recommend abandoning your Ranger. A thief can sate your shortbow cravings and warrior for your longbow ones, which ever you prefer. They actually make for better “Ranger” archetypes anyway plus you don’t have to deal with pesky quite-possibly-braindead pets.

Warrior longbow is a buffbot weapon. Thief shortbow is a toolbox weapon. Both weapons have sub-par DPS compared to each profession’s other weapon choices. The same is true of the ranger’s longbow, but by a much smaller margin.

Tldr: The ranger loses less DPS by equipping a bow than a thief or warrior.

Anet admitted some time ago that they messed up with karma rewards. Karma gains were too high and not enough karma sinks. The result was a glut of karma in the playerbase. Their only remedy from what I remember were the orrian boxes added to Karma vendors in Orr to encourage people to gamble their karma away. Although, what I think happened is people learned what was in the loot table pretty quickly and felt it wasn’t profitable/interesting and ended up waiting until Anet released some other karma sink that was. That day hasn’t come yet, and it may not. To be fair, Anet has been laying groundwork for all sorts of systems and reward mechanisms for the last couple of years. I’m not counting karma down and out just yet.

I dumped all of my karma two times on orrian boxes (about 2 million each time). Then I looked at my 15 risen priests of Balthazar and realized that I was getting raked over the coals. Since then I have amassed another 3 million karma.

Leveling crafting 0 to 400 takes about 1hr30mins if you’re slow, its not that much of a commitment when considering how much time a Legendary takes.

This.

I leveled artificer, jeweler, and chef to 400 (in order to craft mawdrey) in the span of one day. Total cost: about 20g.

I never buy any hardware from Walmart. Anything I did in the past lasted me less than 10 months total.

I hope you can find a fix so you can join us for HoT! Definitely next time just build yourself via newegg or go to best buy. Much safer imo via first hand experience. xD

Building a desktop is something that pretty much anyone with a working brain can do. I’m not so sure about building a laptop.

I am more impressed you got GW2 to even run on a $200 Walmart laptop.

It runs on my $400 Walmart laptop. It looks kind of ugly at minimum settings, but it runs at a respectable 15-20 fps.

Leveling a crafting discipline is one of the smallest parts of building a legendary. If you can’t do that, how could you amass the huge amount of T6 materials (2000 total) required?

It has been our anchor in all kinds of environments and situations.

Not only that, but food/utility buffs as well. If a guardian’s virtue of justice get’s the 40% condi duration buff from his rare veggie pizza, so too should my snow leopard.

Think about someone getting revealed every skip and then you have to stealthresurrect everyone few times.

I had this problem when I used [Shield of Wrath] to blast the thief’s smoke field…

Fortunately I was behind everyone else when it popped and revealed me. I still managed the skip though, so it was all good.

What can I do to punish Dungeon scammers now?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Simple solution: Find two trustworthy people willing to sit in your party while you attempt to sell your dungeon path. That way, you can kick them if they don’t pay up.

Still, I don’t endorse dungeon/fractal selling (especially selling high level fractals). But there’s no way to punish those responsible if you do get scammed. Sell at your own risk etc.

Dusk and Eco hit what I was going to say. I’m still not sure I like it, but it has it’s merits.

I think Spoj makes some great points that can be concerning, but to add, I don’t want to be stuck throwing just nades on Engi because I have to slot some other utilities for some niche situation where they go unused for the majority of the raid.

Certainly conflicted, more and more the more I think about it.

If you are slotting a utility for a niche situation then your build is just suboptimal. Part of the fun is figuring out which class can spec a util/weapon set that can somewhat deal with a niche situation while still being general purpose. Remember you have 10 classes to work with. If you like building magic the gathering decks or is familiar with Trading card games you should be able to see that slotting weapon sets/utils for niche situations is the wrong approach to optimal team comps.

To build on your magic analogy: Competitive players are allowed a 15 card “sideboard” to compliment their decks. Matches are typically played in a best two out of three scenario. Players are allowed to exchange cards from their main deck and sideboard at any point between matches. Kind of like how GW2 players are allowed to switch utilities/traits/weapons between fights.

Yes a few people are going to like it. But take a look at the numbers. The amount of people that are playing now vs the amount that used to play tell the tale guys. Im happy for you if you like it. Its nice to see someone does. Oh and dont say that fall off happens in all mmos b/c its not the same. This game numbers are scary low.

Where are the numbers?

But only if the other player is in the same map. They can’t cross-map whisper, though I don’t know how it works.

Main hand pistol thief is a rare sight, mainly because it’s outshone by the thief’s other main hand weapons. This is likely to change with the Daredevil spec.

Thieves bring utility in the form of group stealth, as well as a spammable blast finisher (shortbow 2). Engineers can also bring stealth (look up a tutorial on how to do the stealth stacking rotation) and a long lasting fire field for might stacking. Both professions are solid choices. Engineer is more technical, while thief is more straightforward.

Personally, as much as I like both professions, the ranger is my first love, and my main.

Is melee ranger the most mobile class?

in Ranger

Posted by: Quarktastic.1027

Quarktastic.1027

Ambients don’t stick you in combat any more I don’t think.

And yeah sword “mobility” is a half lie. Just running with swiftness is as fast or faster. The reason its so good for “mobility” is its surprise burst of gap opener. If you stealth first, even more so.

Any class with a teleport will be master runners. They don’t run super fast with a movement skill, they simply skip all that terrain.

If we remove teleports its down to the classes that got the most uncomplicated movement skills. Heart seeker for thieves, gs/sword/bulls charge for warriors, firey gs ele.

So who is the most mobile over all? That would be the class with easy leaps and easy teleports, theif.

With one exception. Mesmer. A well placed portal can not only save you terrain to cover but it can also save terrain for any of the other classes. Put blink in there and it’s even better. Toss mimic into the mix and its mobility is better than thieves from a different angle.

If you are looking to just break combat as a ranger super fast you cannot go wrong with:
Lightning reflexes
Hornet sting/monarch leap
Quick draw/swoop
Swoop

If you’re in combat, and/or stuck with cripple/chill/slow, Hornet’s sting/monarch’s leap will cover more distance than running. (funny how slow makes leap skills travel farther) But yeah, out of combat, it’s pointless to try and gain ground with them.

It felt epic when I was defending amber sandfall alone for 5 consecutive attacks XD

I tried it on my ranger. It takes dye really well, and it’s well animated (very little clipping), but It’s not really my ranger’s style.

This was our (reward? Bribe? Pacifier?) for paying money for the game that is now free? It’s a decent outfit not something I would’ve purchased or am likely to use but thanks for the gesture.

No the reward was all the memories you’ve had through 40 content updates for FREE.. This was just the cherry on top.

Nothing was free I paid to play

I’m going to assume you’re the type of person who probably has around 4000 total hours played.

So for every dollar you spent on the core game (assuming $60 at launch) you got nearly 67 hours of entertainment. To expect Anet to give you anything at all as compensation is absurd.

$150 pre-order pre launch. The company devalued my purchase to zero forgive me if I’m not alright with that.

Did they take away your $15 plastic figurine and your shiny art book?
