I don’t understand the whole “MLP bow” mentality. The rainbow farting unicorn is clearly a reference to robot unicorn attack. And the so called “butt tattoo” reminds me more of a brand than anything else. You know, like the ones ranchers and farmers use to identify their livestock.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
And quadrupeds can’t actually walk on their hind legs the same way a human walks on its hind legs because a quadruped cannot remain upright for prolonged periods of time nor can they efficiently move about while on their hindlegs.
I beg to differ. Animals are much more adaptable than you think. Yes, a dog with four legs is going to be able to move faster and more efficiently than a dog with two legs, but that doesn’t mean a dog can’t walk on two legs.
A bipedal humanoid cat is not beyond the realm of possibility.
Edit: I don’t know why this post is so huge.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
It looks like I won’t be getting an ascended amulet, as I would have to alter the rest of my gear to accommodate one.
I’m a little confused as to why certain stat combinations like berserker’s are available, but not combinations like knight’s or cleric’s. A person running berserker’s gear can simply upgrade their stats by getting berserker’s ascended pieces. A person running other popular stat combinations -like knight’s- has to rethink their entire build in order to make these ascended items fit.
I already did it once, in order to run with two berserker’s ascended rings. I don’t want to be forced to do it again every time a new piece of ascended gear is released.

They’re like Bruce Banner. They’re peaceful pacifists that look nice and cute and wouldn’t hurt a fly. But push them too far…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/e/ea/Enraged_Quaggan.jpgBut unlike Bruce Banner Quaggans have no ability to defend themselves. A frog’s form does not allow it to become bipedal. A frog which ws bipedal would look nothing like frog’s look now, they’d probably look like humans assuming that frogs could evolve to become bipedal and wouldn’t be more likely to become more aquatic.
The Quaggan are a completely ridiculous and utterly impossible species who would be unable to live if they actually possessed the anatomy they do.
The same is true for the Asura (because of their size they’d have very high metabolisms which would create a lot of strain on the body leading to a much earlier death than a larger species to such an extent that they would not have evolved an intelligence comparable to a humans which is why every tiny race being the smartest is utterly ridiculous because it is completely impossible) and the Charr (they would not be able to properly balance given that their heads are so far away from their torso with nothing to balance them out, they’d constantly be tripping. No species would ever evolve to constantly trip).
There’s this little thing called suspension of disbelief. I don’t suppose you’ve heard of it?
You’re making baseless assumptions. Size is not an indicator of lifespan or intelligence. Some species of tropical birds can live for 60-80 years, and are not much larger than an average house cat. Elephants are immense in size, yet they lack higher intelligence.
Many quadrupedal animals can balance, and even walk on their hind legs. In case you haven’t noticed, charr drop to all fours when running at full speed. They only stand upright while walking or in combat.

The nearest waypoint to lupicus is so far away, it’s actually faster to resurrect someone in combat, than it is to have them run from the waypoint.
Besides, if you’re trying to graveyard rush lupicus, your party isn’t good enough to be running a dungeon like arah -or dungeons in general.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Its a bot that travels beneath the map to different gathering nodes, pops up, gathers and then goes underground to the next node.
While this isn’t beyond the realm of possibility, I believe these bots are manipulating the game’s waypoint system to teleport between nodes. Though I haven’t spent much time observing their behavior.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Inspired by a previous image, I decided to try and give my guardian a bit more of an appropriate appearance. I’m just not sure which leggings fit the best.
Priory shoulders and gloves, inquest chest and greaves. The first image is with priory leggings, the second with inquest leggings, and the third with HotW leggings. I may or may not throw in the asuran T2 helm.
Dyes are currently iron/silver, but will most likely change.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
So….let me get this straight. You purchased an item that you did not preview, then you used a fine transmutation stone on it -again without even so much as a preview- then you equipped it and discovered that it wasn’t what you wanted? Sounds like a case of ignorance to me. Next time, try before you buy.
Also, FYI, each vendor has a second armor tab.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Obviously haven’t seen the videos of melee warriors soloing Lupi…
Obviously can’t comprehend the many hours of practice it takes to successfully solo a boss like Lupicus.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
those are indeed banded pauldrons.
Which actually fit right on a human. On a Norn they are absurd. Similar problem with the banded boots .
I wanted to double check which helmet that is? Has a fantastic Robocop vibe .
Asura have a similar issue. A lot of armor textures look squashed or misshapen. Many pieces that look good on a human look downright silly on an asura. I did the best I could, -and I do kind of like the outcome- but it comes off looking rather generic.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Those videos are just disgusting. Lupicus slowly but surely destroys my guardian if I get focused. Being able to dodge out of his snot bubble of death without popping stability or invulnerability? Might as well be hax. If I get bubbled more than twice in a row, I may as well give up and die, because there’s no way I’m getting out.
Not to mention, he killed lupicus faster than my last group.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
On the right: my guardian’s current look
On the left: something I’ve been experimenting with.
I’m not sure which one I like better.
I never really liked the look of the AC pauldrons (that’s what you have on the right, correct?) and I used the same one you have on the left on my asura warrior for a while so I kind of like that look. But I ended up going with the Banded Pauldron skin for my guardian (not asura) and I really like it. One of these days I’ll actually get around to posting a pic of my guard and stats…
On the right: Ascalonian chest and shoulders, the rest is draconic.
On the left: Nobleman’s chest and gladiator shoulders, the rest is still draconic.

I just hit level 80, and I’ve been using a pretty typical 0/15/30/20/5 build with altruistic healing and empowering might. I’ve been debating on equipment choices, specifically armor and trinkets.
…
Which would be of greater benefit?
Quark, with your build I’d go with a knight set and soldier runes or crests. You’ll end up about 16k hp, and with the AH setup, you will regenerate it easily. I’m running a similar build with 0/5/30/30/5, and I’m honestly not hurting for the lack of HP. This is PvE though, can’t speak for wvwvw or sPvP.
You didn’t really read the whole thread did you? I recommend that you go through it. There’s some interesting stuff in here.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The lowest level shoulders are 11
Even if you can’t wear it, you can still transmute it.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
You are one squishy guardian.
You’re also spoiled. No class…except perhaps a thief, can match the damage output of a warrior. My ranger would kill her pet to have the damage output of my guardian, and let me tell you…It’s a lot less than what your guardian is dealing.
Also, you’re comparing a single hit (mighty blow) with no/minimal buffs/debuffs, to a multiple hit attack (hundred blades -which you must remain perfectly still to channel) with 25 stacks of might on yourself, and 25 stacks of vulnerability on your target.
With max might and vulnerability, even my guardian could crit above 5-6k with mighty blow.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
here’s a bit of a WvW perspective. i tried PVT / Soldier’s gear for a while using an AH build, and i felt, i won’t say less survivable, but definitely less effective overall. so i guess in other words, i didn’t feel i was able to hold my own more. the added vit was nice, but losing crit and fighting power i didn’t enjoy so much. and AH still relies on crits a lot – least the way i traited and specced.
though if you really want, you can try Knight’s + Soldier’s chest and pants for the added vitality. many have said that’s a good starting place, but i still prefer the crit chance over vit any day. that might just be me though.
Yeah. I wound up with knight’s armor and trinkets, but I picked up a soldier’s chest piece and pauldrons. Odd, I know, but I just happened to have them on hand. Full runes of the soldier, and a berserker weapon and back piece. (the weapon is still of rare quality, and the back piece is the green one from the personal story -same stats as the masterwork guild backpack)
I was considering replacing my knight’s rings with either cavalier’s or berserker’s ascended rings, and my back piece with a power/tough/crit back piece. That way, I’ll only drop about 100 toughness, but gain 21% critical damage. I would also gain +82 power. If I choose the cavalier rings and power/tough/crit back piece, I’ll lose roughly 3% crit rate, but gain 360 health. If I use a maintenance oil, my total crit rate will still be 49%.
My current stats without the berserker back piece.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Knights or Berserkers. Soldiers is for…going slow. Magi’s is for pure healing build that wants crit.
Berserker’s is out, mainly because I don’t want to fall like a house of cards in a stiff breeze after I’ve used up all my blocks and blinds. Knight’s is….I’ve used knights on different characters, but I really wanted to gear up with dungeon armor, mostly because I don’t have to spend gold on it.
On the subject of knight’s armor. If I were to use it, I would want to pair it with a trinket that gives vitality, because I don’t like running around with 10k health. The best trinket for that would be valkyrie. But, using that setup, I would wind up with even less precision than either of the setups in my original post. I want to keep a high enough critical hit rate to proc empowering might and vigorous precision reliably.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
So, using full knight’s with runes of altruism has been working pretty great. But I want to swap out to soldier’s for more condition removal. I’m thinking pre/hp/vit gear from AC with full soldier’s runes. I think I’d just keep my current knight’s accessories.
Anyone with PvE builder or better math skills than myself let me know if this gear strategy would work out well enough? Thanks in advance.
Still love the build, btw. Couldn’t imagine running w/o it. Just so much durability and group support/healing without feeling like I’m hitting like a wet noodle.
Your idea threw a wrench in my plans to get full soldier’s armor, with berserker trinkets. I’ve been crunching numbers all day. Here’s what I found.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Which-equipment
I’m still not sure to be honest.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I just hit level 80, and I’ve been using a pretty typical 0/15/30/20/5 build with altruistic healing and empowering might. I’ve been debating on equipment choices, specifically armor and trinkets.
Option one: Soldier’s armor with Berserker trinkets.
Option two: Magi’s armor with Knight’s trinkets
If I choose the first option, I gain +411 power, and +32% critical damage over the second option. But I lose: 315 healing power, 187 toughness, and 274 precision. If I choose the second option, I lose that 411 power and 32% critical damage in favor of the healing/toughness/precision.
Option two offers a 13% higher critical hit rate than option one. Which would allow for slightly more triggers of empowering might and vigorous precision. Option two would also double the amount of health I -and nearby allies- would gain from selfless daring. But all of this comes at a cost of a very large loss of power and critical damage.
Which would be of greater benefit?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
But wont my gear be a problem for doing lvl 80 runs in AC? I know I will scale back to level 40, but are the drops in there good enough so after a few runs I will have some upgrades to my mostly blue/green armor?
My guardian has been running AC in masterwork gear. I facetank bosses, rarely use my dodge roll, AoE bomb trash mobs, and almost never go down.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I’m beginning to think my guardian is actually a leprechaun. In all 600+ hours of playing my ranger, I never once got an exotic drop. But today, while playing my guardian, I got 3 exotics, a charged lodestone, and a white dye.
It’s official, my ranger is retiring.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
did anyone notice that shortbow on a male is different than shortbow on a female.
males lean into thier bow liek they aiming
females lean away from their bow like they 1. got a stick up their kitten and 2. like the bow is the last thing in the world they want to be near. maybe it smells…
(the pictures are to show what i mean for thsoe of you who saying "wth am i talking about, the animations are different?)
i want to lean into my bow =( not look like a Lord of the rings elf whose bow smells and so i leaning away…
ok..maybe that current female one works for longbow….but short bow? everyone should be leaning into it because the bow is small and leaning away from it is going to send arrows wildly away
so solution, and the reason i posting this is to ask Anet to make males and females hold longbow like current female, straight back and not leaning because the bow is big, so you going to need distance to aim.
and make shortbows like current male, after all you need ot lean forward to aim a bow thats short, if you lean back with a shortbow(like current female bow animation) the arrow is going to miss.
anyone else agree? disagree? (if you disagree i want 3 reasons why, and make them good ones)
I’m curious. Have you ever actually fired a bow? Because the female character has a much more natural looking stance. I imagine that male character must be in extreme discomfort firing his bow from that position.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Knights would often carry maces and hammers into battle, as they are much more effective against an armored opponent than a bladed weapon.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I couldn’t decide for a long time when I was leveling because I didn’t want my guardian looking like a fruit salad. In the end I just went for straight silver and let the world’s lighting bring the beauty of the colour.
I know this is a very old post, but I tried to recreate this look with my asura guardian. Same armor, same dye. Even with my graphics maxed out, my armor looks painted rather than polished.
I am very disappointed.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
0/0/30/20/20 is standard.
^
either go like this for absolute resolutionor you go
V0/15/30/20/5 for more ‘crit’ based tank: altruistic healing through might stacks on crits.
omnombery pies + maintenance oil required, but doubles the DPS output with the same survivability.IMHO, tank guardian is defined by his runes, which are 2x water+ 2x monk+ 2x earth
for extra 30% boons duration with 50% protection duration.
What exactly makes the pies/oils required? Is absolute resolution really that powerful? Or is it the loss of 15 points in virtues?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
A week ago I would suggest any other class for PvP…… But last night I watched a SB ~ S/D ranger take on a bunker ele.
Just let me say I’d never want to cross paths with that ranger…..
Either the bunker ele was lagging, or wasn’t playing very well.
If neither of those was the case….I really want to know that ranger’s spec.
On that note: I watched a bunker ele fend off a group of around 10 players for the better part of 15 minutes.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I’m disappointed by the lack of utility sigils in this thread. Wearing full berserker’s gear, you’re already dealing decent damage with a more than decent crit rate. I rarely see people mention the sigil of nullification, but boon removal is extremely powerful in pve. Especially against monsters that stack retaliation, like veteran karka.
The sigil of blood is another option. Life stealing on a fast weapon like the shortbow can increase your survivability quite a bit.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
No one clears the temple of balthazar anymore, since you can now get obsidian shards from fractals.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
When I use to farm adult karka, they never dropped anything good. With t6 mats worthless now, they still don’t drop anything good.. Do they?
Please explain to me how to profit well off of this.
Also how do you tell differences between male/female?
I just kill them quickly and make money off the shells and rares.
Females take longer but are easier since your forced to deal with the headcrabs.
You kill them quickly because your a thief. As a ranger, it takes me the better part of 5 minutes to kill a veteran karka. And 9 times out of 10, they don’t drop anything.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
My Mesmer would kill to have the Guardian’s scepter
Not because of the auto-attack, i guess ^^ Smite and Chains of Light are indeed great skills (although smite could deserve symbol status).
Smite is terrible unless it’s used against a single opponent. Since the number of hits are shared amongst targets, the more targets there are, the less damage each individual target takes.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Because, the longer a fight takes, the greater the odds of someone screwing up. I guess.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Stop using scepters in pvp. Or move into melee range.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Of the dozens of veteran karka I have killed, I can count the number of items they have dropped on one hand. Most of the time, they drop nothing at all.
I also can’t help but laugh at the complaint that dual pistols deal crappy damage. Play a ranger for a while, and you’ll be begging for your pistols back.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I don’t use healing spring. Troll unguent is much better at keeping both me and my pet up and in the fight. Rangers often forget about their pets, but pets can be extremely helpful. Healing spring is absolutely terrible at keeping your pet alive, even if your pet is standing in it.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
You really sound like you need to get over yourself, or need to stop lying. Because even some of my best top players on my guild refuse to do AC (which is the level 30 dungeon) with a full party at level 80 gear. I honestly call bullcrap that you could do AC story mode with a 3 man, and if you can. I would ask for a video, or gtfo.
In fact I just asked several of my guild mates, and they say you’re full a crap about running a 3 man AC group at level 30, and beating it.
So please stop trying to talk up a big game, and trying to be a bad kittenAlso. “viewed ranged as pointless kiting rather than a tactical alternative”
Range is pointless kitting, and there’s nothing “Tactical” about it.
Range is easy mode because the amount of effort you need to put into a range-based class is no were as much as you need to put into a melee/up-close type style. It even like this in the beta, and several people on youtube, and myself even stated that using Range requires less effort than using melee.So. Please. Stop trying to talk up a big game, and trying to be a big bad kitten
Just because you and your guildies are bad at this game doesn’t mean the rest of us are lying.
And yeah, we all know that ranged combat is easier. But that doesn’t make it pointless. The point is that it’s easier.
For the record, I ran an AC story on my guardian at level 35, in level 20 masterwork gear. I had no problems whatsoever.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
(edited by Quarktastic.1027)
I actually pray for the princess dolls. The ventari toys kill me with their wicked retaliation, the golems stunlock me to death, and the griffons just bring the smackdown with raw damage. A bit of confusion I can handle.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I stopped reading right around the point where you said you only reached level 6 in queensdale. I’m not sure what you’ve been doing, but you’ve been doing something wrong. My sylvari ranger was level 18 by the time she finished mapping caledon forest, and my asrua guardian was level 17 when he finished mapping metrica province.
If you haven’t noticed, I always get 100% map completion in the area my character is at before moving on. As of right now, my guardian is level 43, and I’ve only just finished mapping lornar’s pass. If my ranger is any indication, my guardian will be level 80 by the time I reach the 60-70 areas.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
condition removal (oh wait…shake it off is all they have?)
No, it’s not. Warriors have above average active condition removal. They do lack the passive removal like Signet of Resolve though.
Warriors do have signet of stamina though. Cleansing all conditions every 45 seconds (36 traited) is pretty good.
Of course, guardians get contemplation of purity, purging flames, smite condition, and purity (the trait).

-BnooMaGoo.5690
Funny story, I once saw a warrior running around with the guardian’s signature shoulder pads. Threw me off for a second. I have also seen rangers with thief hoods.
The starter items are far from unique, since you can acquire as many as you’d like, provided you have a free character slot, and don’t mind jumping through a few hoops.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Why are certain named exotics (Mjolnir, Infinite Light, etc.) as expensive, if not more expensive than most legendaries?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The charged lodes for Infinite Light would cost someone 1100g right now, that isn’t the one you are going for is it?
That, or Mjolnir. Mjolnir should just be upgraded to legendary status at this point. It costs about as much as your average legendary, only with fewer steps and less RNG.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I don’t particularly mind the small weapons on my asura. I can see them just fine. In fact, I’m considering getting either Mjolnir or the Juggernaut for my asura guardian.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
Mjolnir is quite awesomeD
though i had the chance to lay my own eyes on a bolt once and the lightning effect is pretty darn kewl too.as for focus – corrupted artifact would be a good choice. the chain could be kind of cool. chalice seems to go along with the whole “idea” as well but not sure if it would look visually / aesthetically matching.
in terms of visuals.. maybe… in terms of preference, though i haven’t seen thes ein game. all judging by previews.
- acring focus – seems to have some “electrical” aspect to it with blue lighting
- glyphic focus – again, blue light.
- ascalonian?
as for builds.. what do you use as a second set? and if you’re boon using / shout heavy, the AH could still work even with a sword / OH. not an expert with the 1h sword though so will leave others to help you with this. though i imagine, i’d invest in the radiance line. or a mix of zeal/radiance/valor and some virtues.
The steam gizmo leaves a neat looking blue trail as you wave it around. It’s not quite lightning though.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
I don’t know. My guardian is only level 40, but so far, I’m facetanking champions of my level without so much as breaking a sweat. I can even handle a group of those blasted princess dolls without much trouble. Toy golems on the other hand….those things scare me.
I feel like guardians have more ways to mitigate damage than warriors. Multiple sources of aegis and blind, as well as several block skills.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The level of entitlement in this thread is staggering.
Why must everything have a super awesome reward attached to it? What happened to playing games for fun?
Normally I agree with your implied sentiment, however, the last mission of your epic personal story quest line should be ‘super awesome reward’ in my humble opinion.
Mostly, it was Trahearne’s epic personal story. We were just along for the ride.
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The level of entitlement in this thread is staggering.
Why must everything have a super awesome reward attached to it? What happened to playing games for fun?
-BnooMaGoo.5690
The reward should be much better. All the rewards that are given in Fort Trinity were useless for me. I choosed a longbow with stats i dont need just to spend the reward. Later i bought a new (exotic one). By the way, even before the final mission i already had weapons from drops better than those rewards.
People constantly get hung up on stats. The reward isn’t about stats. It’s about the skin of the weapon. Pact weapons are only acquired through the personal story. If you don’t like the skin, then don’t bother with it. But don’t complain about it because it doesn’t have super awesome stats.
Tier 3 cultural weapons don’t have super awesome stats either, and I don’t see many people complaining about those.
