I actually think new stuff to spend dungeon tokens on would make a helluva difference.

they could tack on free legendaries at the end of a path and they’ll still be the same boring **** people have been doing the past 3 years.

Fundamentally, everything in PVE becomes stale after about a week. AI is limited and MMO game play just isn’t that engaging. The fun really comes from the social aspect and a sense of progression.

Saying dungeons like Arah or something get stale after a week. Yeah that isn’t some BS or anything. Where’s your proof to back up your claim? The way I see it, dungeons entered a declining state after being abandoned between about 1.5-2 years. Until then, the “QQ” was minimal. There will always be one minority who burns it once and never plays it again, but that’s what the majority of dungeoneers are like.

If that were to be the case, after 3 years dungeons would be dead and there would be no “meta lfgs”

Meaning that I think it’ll have the relevance of some wet toilet paper in the middle of a road in Texas that crosses a deserted landscape with cactuses and… Nevermind.

Atleast the wet toilet paper would be enough to hydrate the soil beneath it and grow some smaller life form like grass weed or serve as a matrix for smal fungi.

Bad enough i maybe have to do them for those new legendarys.

PHIW has began to flood this thread. God forbid for you to work on all parts of the game to get a legendary.

God forbid dungeons get dungeon-specific loot thats actually cool rather than kittenty crafting recipes for kittenty amulets!

Seriously. Go back to enjoying your Silverwastes challenging chestfarm/events will ye?

Whatever PHIW is ..

No what if you were forced to loot 10.000 chests in SW for you Legendary ? Or that
all the “cool” loot is just in SW chests ..

No go back to glitch through your walls and stack in corners.

  • Because grinding 10K chests is clearly equivalent to the mere 500 tokens you need to get in a dungeon that has 3 different explorable paths and 1 story path

PHIW perfectly describes your response. And I know I’m not alone in this.

I’ve suggested this before.

Dungeon Specific loot would be excellent.

an Example of how I would do it:

Ascalon Catacombs Path 2
The Ghost Eater
Drops a unique back item called The Ghost Eater’s Hide.

You can choose the stats for this back item, and it can be upgraded to an ascended version.

This back item makes your character appear ghostly while being worn.
(similar to the effects of a Strawberry Ghost consumable)

There is dungeon specific loot. But no one gives a crap about it, because a) it’s very rare b) it’s useless stats

Example: those rare crafting recipes

Which reminds me and scares me at the same time: How much left until Anet implements a Fractal PvP Reward Track with a free skin at the end?

That would be beyond lame.

I didn’t like the change, I felt dungeons skins should have stayed unique, but admittedly liked it when getting Koda skins…

It still holds the point true doesnt it? The only problem in getting Koda skins is that they made the absolutely most awful dungeon I have ever seen in MMOs. No joke, I literally fell asleep one time at the Butcher final path boss…..

The best course of action would be to rework the dungeon in to something more attractive. The lazy course of action is to give such skins “free” and easier to PvP reward tracks.

When I did my Koda armor (for skin) back then through doing HOTW, it may have been boring but I kinda felt reliefed and achieved when it was done.

I’m fine with fractals, but I was talking about the dungeons.

Fractals is what you are describing, and dungeons already have skins associated with each one. Granted the skins aren’t exclusive anymore due to PVP tracks, but still probably quicker.

So I can’t be the only one to notice a HUGE powercreep with the revealed specializations so far. Look at guardian for example in terms of damage, or look at huge access to quickness + cooldown reduction of chronomancers

This can’t be good for the game at all. Imagine how are our current dungeons going to be like.

If people complain they’re already way facerollish, imagine after HoT comes out…

I’m glad you were able to make it out from under your bridge to be a Troll here in the forum

Oh I’m the troll here?

Let’s begin dissecting your logic.

So it doesn’t tell you anything that there are hundreds if posts by different people all complaining about the same thing?

So it doesn’t tell you anything that there are hundreds of posts by different people all complaining about those people that want “stack to end”? That maybe, just maybe it isn’t as linear as you think and there are two groups of people here?

You can’t say that people are happy with the dungeon design if so many people vehemently write so many posts against it.

People cry all the time about every single subject you could ever imagine. It’s been cried about here in our very own dungeon forum.

Your suggestions are overcomplex and achieve truly nothing at the end except extra annoying some players. And considering Anet’s lack of devoted resources to the dungeon scene, it ain’t happening.

It’s been suggested right here on this subforum boss designs and overall mob designs far better and enthusiastic alternatives than yours, with great support from the whole community and they haven’t taken action about it. Regina Buenaobra posted about a year ago asking for feedback on several dungeons. It was all just a wet tissue to try to cool people off from being ignored so much. Never heard back ever since. Probably will come back asking the same question after a year to give us “something to do” and keep us busy so we don’t leak to the other subforums and ruin the positive vibes of the Living Story hippies.

Yeah. Perhaps introduce difficulty settings.

This is where I would agree with you, if Anet hadn’t outright said that there will be no Hard Mode for GW2, in a not-so-long ago interview.

People generally don’t stack in open world. Monsters tend to be much more mobile and have large patrol routes. The maps are usually more open so the stacking mechanic just isn’t useful.

I don’t think you even know what you are complaining about. You’re complaining about LOS’ing and not Stacking.

You seem to believe your suggestions are the solution to what you seem to believe that is a problem. For example: You want to make mobs dodge out or move out of AOES. Do you realise what that would accomplish? Mobs in an never ending boomerang loop between AoEs, spending more time running from them than actually fighting heads-on with players. That’s not a frightening enemy, that’s a chicken.

They got a thousand gold already, it’s not like they need to run a dungeon in five minutes.
But I normally just do that when the group is specifically asking for experienced 80’s with zerkers, then I bring a necro with rabid.

Yeah but I’m the troll here! You go out of your way to antagonize zerkers, whose only fault is trying to play how they want, with alike players who share their mindset.

All the while GW2 is shedding player base to inferior games like Elder Scrolls Online, FFXIV, and others of their ilk.

Yeah because dungeons are clearly the only reason why GW2 is losing some playerbase to some other games. Not because the staleness of content, the shallowness of Living Story and new areas devoid of any challenge whatsoever, to be farmed as a zerg while taking a cup of tea. Maybe, just maybe, the population migration should be about Anet’s game focus and not because of some dungeons that are untouched since Launch.

You see the new fire drake boss battle videos on YouTube? How mobile and action packed those battles were? That’s how I’m pretty sure most of the levels were designed to be like. The wing buffet knockback skill is essentially the same as what I suggested before with world bosses getting some stack breaker abilities.

And here I am met with the reason for your post. You are not yet experienced in GW2 combat. You dont understand what makes people “stack”. If there’s a big boss and 3 guys are meleeing him, how in the world weren’t they going to stack huh? Perhaps they should take turns as a big festive rodeo of hitting the piñata one by one?

Do you realise that the wing buffet knockback skill is still going to allow people to stack? Haven’t you seen players stacking melee there and using AoE stability skills from Guardians and Revenants to allow players to keep on meleeing together as a tight group?

Maybe you should review your core understanding of the game. And do not repply to this comment if you cannot debate every single point I’ve made.

With love,

“Forum Troll”

1. Have the enemies dodge out of AoE circles and not blindly walk back into them.

Annoying. You might think this would be fun, but it wouldnt.

2. Turn on collision for player characters so they can’t stand in the exact same spot as another character.

Annoying. Dying because you were blocked by a teammate out of an AOE is frustating. Annoying.

3. Place doors in the dungeons that require keys to open. The keys are dropped by random mobs in the dungeon. This way encounters can’t always be bypassed and players actually will have to play the dungeon and fight some monsters in order to progress further.

A…..annoying.

4. Have the monsters drop better loot progressively. The more enemies you kill, the better the quality of loot becomes. By the end of the dungeon if you fight all the mobs there is a chance of exotic drops, but if you bypass all the mobs, the loot will be green quality at best.

You truly believe that change would encourage people to kill mobs. You couldnt be more wrong. I’d still rush the end chest than clear all trash mobs who are dull and boring to fight, with no mechanics whatsoever.

Another annoying suggestion.

Keep trying. I hope your next one doesn’t continue the Annoying-scale I’ve assembled during this post.

Dungeon Balance Post-Specializations

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Quickfoot Katana.8642

Since the elite PvE players are represented by this forum more than any other, perhaps our Specialist can voice concerns to Anet about not being able to slot lower level traits (e.g. adept in grandmaster slot).

It’s extremely restricting and magnifies dev mistakes (bad traits, bugged traits) as every useless trait greatly reduces your build options.

I don’t think Anet will listen to the unwashed masses of the general forum, but maybe the “elites” of the dungeon forum? (Probably not, looking at the interface they’ve already created for the new system.)

Not that I agree with Anet on this, but I can give you the reason: they don’t want Masters and Grandmasters to ever be worse than Adepts, because that would be confusing for the average GW2 player, since they are supposed to be stronger. It’s a noob trap and they are removing the illusion of choice in order to streamline the game for a more “casual/confused” audience.

@Rising Dusk

I’d sign a petition to move Zephyr’s Speed (10% increased movespeed while attuned to air) to the baseline default just like Blasting Staff is now. And find another replacement for that spot. Why?

Because it’s just too useless/uninteresting. Any average elementalist knows how to stack swiftness or atleast how to gain it, which means this trait is effectively useless when you are under the effects of swiftness: max cap is 33%.

Please foward this intention of switching this trait with another one to the devs.

Yeah J Eberle, it’s not as much as being bad as it is the attitude to me. People mouthing off to you for no reason other than for the sake of complaining are the worst.

Another example of a terrible kind of pug is this warrior that I had in an Arah p1 pug the other night who whined like an infant when I said I refused to let our guard 1shot Lupi. He was going off about how he cares about nothing other than the speed that the dungeon is completed and how he doesn’t care to waste time, despite the fact that he was waiting at the waypoint and typing instead of joining us. I told him that technically it’s not faster to 1shot him, but he was still whining.

In the end I kicked him when he eventually accused me of milking donations from people to compensate the apparent lack of speed in my runs due to never 1shotting him? Dumbest insult tbh and apparently he knew who I was based off of that comment.

There’s my pug story.

Well to be honest.. how is it not faster to one shot Lupi rather than the regular way? It might not be a respectable way to kill Lupi but I dont think you can take the criteria of speed away from that tactic.

Giving creatures the ability to dodge would in my opinion not make them more challenging but rather make them more annoying to fight agaisnt. We have to draw the distinction between those two aspects.

Weapon-swapping bosses with different abilities and mechanics with each weapon is definitely an interesting concept. Ashyn from fractals does this but the concept is not explored very well there, because they represent phases, and not random-dynamic weapon swapping shifting the encounter’s state. It could be so much better.

Underworld GW1

You mean this UW?

The point isn’t to call you out or anything but rather just to play devil’s advocate. I play a lot of GW1 still and I can tell you a lot of what people say about it is through rose tinted glasses.

Truth is, there are no real challenges in games that cannot be overcome through time and practice. I know it’s not really on the topic of the thread but I hope people keep in mind that content needs to constantly evolve and change with the playerbase in order to stay challenging.

UW, FoW, Deep, Urgoz, even SF used to be really difficult when they first came out. DoA was extremely hard when it first came out as well. They are all on speedmode now and can be done in extremely low times.

The longer people play, the more strategies and synergies are discovered and developed to make runs as fast and efficient as possible. As a result, you get less and less “generic pug” team makeup. GW2 is somewhat unique in that regard.

GW1 has much less room for class variance and “diversity” despite people liking to believe otherwise. There is simply no room for a W/Mo in SCs.

That’s something to keep in mind when designing difficult content.

Why I sugested UW? Because I liked the team-splitting strategy to complete it and the fact that it was way more punishing than any GW2 dungeon, why? Because if you failed a quest, your party would be wiped and you would be kicked out.

That’s why I pointed it out. No matter how hard you make something, it’s bound to become easy after time and practice. That’s not an excuse to stop making it is it? Like Vargamonth pointed out, I want more challenging content that requires a team to split up into several parts in order to complete it faster, but also keeping that splitting as a not required thing, for casual groups.

Soloing dungeons is one of the best experiences in GW2. Imagine if you got several players soloing several encounters at the same time. The experience can be diversified if players swap around their favorite spot to a new one they havent tried.

“We’ve really heard loud and clear from our fans than one of the things they’re looking for is more challenges in GW2 for PvE, reasons to use their entire skillbar. A lot of the creatures don’t force you to do that and it’s something we really put clear focus into this expansion, to deliver really challenging difficult content and group content”

Yeah I hate the overuse of the expression “challenging group content” without being given details of what is it really about, but this is a massive improvement from what I’ve heard before. Still avoiding the word “instanced” but that would just give away that there were gonna be raids. We’ll just have to see why they’re saving the blogpost about “challenging group content” for last.
