Just stop please. This isn’t even remotely about Tournament. This is about you, and the hotjoin heroes trying to balance a casual feature that offers way to many rewards for the effort spent. Auto-balance all you want, people will still zerg because they are farming glory/rank there.

Hotjoin’s rewards are the cancer of PvP.

With the future implementation of SoloQ and TeamQ separation, splitting the leaderboards into 2, how will that affect the current rating?

Will the rating suffer a hard-reset, a soft-reset (like the one used in League every season), or no reset?

Are you going to keep the current rating for SoloQ and reset for TeamQ?

  • I dont think this would be a good option because current rating is heavily inflated by playing with a premade team.

I do believe we will need some sort of reset when these changes take place, I know most top players won’t fully agree with this idea but half of the players on leaderboards are there for constantly playing with their team agaisnt solo’ers.

Problem is that enforces the meta. I dont think that’s what the developers want. They want people to keep experimenting other options and find ways around the meta.

What we do need though, and I fully agree, is a better tutorial introducing players to build-making. Show them an example of how to connect the dots of your build through traits

Exactly, any Distortion, Blurred Frenzy could have blocked this fast 1-shot combo.
This is just a sign you need to catch the necro offguard to burst him down. And this is a great thing to have for the combat, predicting your oponent’s actions and countering them

full ele burst with arcane = 20% deathshroud. This is just an example of how much damage mitigation a necro has access to.

Weren’t spectral skills effects suposed to be turned off when deathshroud was triggered?

Just, while we’re talking about it, I’m also just thinking about the weapon overall, how it performs in all game types, strengths, weaknesses, what would happen with adjustments, etc.

Hehehe … ownt. So very well put. People cry for more transparency, and they just QQ while you’re answering one of their pleas (about transparency) and offering up an idea where personally I think 100B as a burst would be a good melee option. Why? Even if blind, it’s going to land a hit somewhere and use that adrenaline to proc cleansing ire.

Is that not the idea that was behind this, I assume? Having Arcing slice on the main bar would allow for more fury uptime much more easily, too, and could be an overall buff.

But of course … too busy being mad at about anything and everything to akshully discuss. I’m not even a warrior, and I’m seeing some potential benefits here. Hell, being a burst skill it could actually be buffed in someway, be it either damage or add a short duration snare to it. Just please, no stun, warriors have enough of those as it is IMO.

Wait a second, isn’t Warriors Flurry the same concept as 100b? So warrior would have two burst skills that are exactly the same?

Another patch comes, another month without solo que has passed.

Just fuse NA and EU already for s-tpvp so you can split solo and premades making, maybe, a decent world ladder also…can join with 5 ppl full premade or SOLO only, no 3+2pug and stuff…premades or solo, 2 world ladders and gg….easy? Yes. kittens given to this and pvp in general? 0

Lag issues disagree with you

Especially lag is really bad for any fast-paced game. However they finally could merge Heart of the Mists together in a Region-wide server, instead of 30 different servers, without even providing a proper-lfg tool. So many possible pug-grps can’t form due to that split.

I read somewhere it is a possibility but atm its being turned back by technical difficulties

They should really post saying they fixed it or something. Only reason we have to in-game test everything is because:
1) there’s not enough transparency on the patch notes
2) skills/traits tooltips are often vague or incomplete

We’re looking into potential solutions to smooth out the responsiveness of the flute even more while also maintaining the functionality that was added in today.

Apologies for those who are having trouble playing the songs that were previously playable. However being able to add pauses (rests) to your songs and all the expressiveness that comes with that is very important. I assure you all that this was thoroughly tested, though there is always room for further improvement and refinement.

Please hang on to those instruments and continue to provide us with feedback!

Please change the key to pause to the Esc key (Escape). Using Esc while playing already stops the flute animation so why not the sound? A much better and intuitive solution replacing this one introduced this patch

Anyone else having troubles playing songs since the new patch? When you use the same note it cancels the sound completely… No more:

  • My Heart Will Go on

  • God save the queen

Well, this is crap.
Can Anet check this out and revert the change? Make the sound cancel if you click Escape key, but not pressing the same key twice as it ruins a lot of good songs!

I think anet needs to make spvp players able to gain xp, gear, and everything u can get in pve while doing spvp. I honestly have no clue how to get that done but the rewards and progression in spvp are painfully slow. The only thing I look forward too are the finishers. Otherwise, I could careless what rank I am.

There’s 2 sides to this story. Pvers don’t come to spvp because they don’t get any rewards for thier main style of play. Pvpers don’t pve/wvw because they don’t get rewards for pvping that allow them to wvw/pve.

The pvp reward system is screwed up no matter what kind of player you are. If they fixed it this would be a much better game for everyone.

Number one reason why PvErs dont PvP is because they dont like PvP. They even got access to the same stats and skills when they hop in.
Can you say the same about PvPers going into PvE? Ignoring the majority of PvPers who dont like PvE, the ones who do still dont go there as much because they are stripped off stats and armors and what not!
I just think its pointless trying to form 1 playerbase when clearly there are 3 masses who each prefer their own combo of stuff: PvE, WvW and PvP.

Solo queue is definitely on the horizon. What everyone has been playing now will become ‘Team Arena’ (group queue), and we will additionally add a ‘Solo Arena’ (solo queue). The ratings will be split, and each will have their own leaderboard. We’re also planning on shipping a couple other long-standing requests with Solo Arena that many have been waiting for. A blog post will go into details about everything.

Adding If conditions to the skills requires more player analysis, contributing for a more dynamic combat.

If you have to look at your target to check if he is knocked down, you are engaging with the visual aspect of combat that Anet wants us to do.

They do need to make boons and conditions more visible instead of UI stalking. Having a display array so complex through the skill effects dont help this cause any more. They will need to tune down skill effects and add visual effects to conditions and boons, so we can be introduced to these new type of skills that rely on “if X, then Y, else Z conditions”.

They had a great thing going for this type of complexity in GW1, Im hoping these new skills being introduced provide this concept.

Cloack and Dagger BUG!!?

Its not a stealthnerf, its more like an annoying bug. If you have air/flame sigils, and your Cloak n Dagger hits a crit, triggering the sigil, the damage from the sigil will cause you being revealed.

Its like trying to trigger stealth with a smoke field →big ol bomb. For some reason the aoe dmg from that bomb is separated into two so it stealths and reveals you instantly

They need to fix rhe hitting of this skill, just by strafing the skill misses. I would love to use it for a Cloak and Dagger > backstab combo for example but its extremely unreliable as this skill stands.

Well Im gonna go ahead and say the taboo word: GW1

Many skills worked very differently and that provided a really cool way to introduce variety to the game!
Hexes were removed in favor of conditions, but these hexes can make a comeback as conditions, provided only by a limited amount of skills or even just 1 skill to make it feel unique and impactful! (eg. Torment, former “Weaken Knees” – Elite Hex Spell)

I’ll drop in a few examples, adapted to GW2:

  • Wary Stance (Warrior)
    Stance. (1…2 second[s]). You block attack skills. Gain adrenaline and cure a condition (or gain a fraction of endurance) for each block. Ends if you use a skill.
  • Cry of Frustration (Long casting time, because it is impactful on teamfights)
    Spell. If target foe is using a skill, that foe and all foes in the area are interrupted and take X damage.
  • Frustration
    Hex Spell. (6 seconds.) Causes 50% slower spell casting. Target foe takes X damage whenever interrupted. Deals double damage on skill interrupt
  • Lyssa’s Assault (modified)
    Interrupts an action. If you have more than 4 boons, the interrupted skill is disabled for an additional 1…8 seconds and this attack deals less 50% damage. If less than 4 boons this attack doesnt interrupt but deals 50% increased damage.
  • See? This is the kinda of tradeoff in the skills I would like to see making a comeback into GW2!
  • Diversion
    Hex Spell. (6 seconds.) Target foe’s next skill takes +X seconds to recharge.
  • Rewards good timing of skills to disable important skills!
  • Bane signet
    Signet. Target foe takes X damage. If target foe was attacking, that foe is knocked down.
  • Augury of Death
    Half Range Hex Spell. (X seconds.) Inflict Deep Wound condition (X seconds) and Shadow Step to target foe the next time damage would drop this foe’s Health below 50%. (Deep Wound was a condition that reduced target’s maximum health and healing received by 20%)
  • Crippling Dagger
    Half Range Spell. Projectile: deals X damage. Inflicts Crippled condition (X seconds) if target foe is moving.
  • Death’s Charge
    Shadow Step to target foe. You are healed for X health if this foe has more Health % than you.
  • Desperate Strike
    Deals +X damage if you have less than X% Health.
  • Falling Spider
    Deals +X damage. Inflicts Poisoned condition (X seconds). No effect unless target foe is knocked-down/launched/stunned/feared
  • Golden Fang Strike
    Inflicts Deep Wound condition (X seconds) if you have more than 4 boons on you.
  • Iron Palm
    Touch Skill. Deals X damage. Causes knock-down if target foe is has more than X conditions.
  • Lift Enchantment
    Touch Skill. Removes X boon[s]. No effect unless target foe is knocked-down/launched/stunned/feared.
  • Sadist’s Signet
    Signet. You gain X Health for each condition on target foe.

Having more “if-conditions” adds depth to an already beautiful visual combat. Having to check if your enemy is knocked-down to maximize Z’s skill effectiveness, or having an awareness of how many/what boons you have on you currently to benefit from Y’s skill bonus is a great step towards separating good, from the best players.

This would require tuning down the other skills effects (that you are already working on) and adding a visual effect for boons, so we move away from UI-lurking. This follows the design direction you want to adopt, so why not?

Why dont you want to make the skills more interesting and have a best case scenario for players who time them well, and a punishing/not-so-effective scenario for players who spam them at will?

If we are making this game esports, skill has to play an even greater role! Introduce more active traits and abilities with tradeoffs.

Drop in your skill sugestions, from GW1 or made by yourselves!

Taunt: Your foe will blindly run towards you.

It works just like fear, but taunt makes the target run towards you. The target does not get to use any skills and cannot freely control their character until the condition is removed or the stun break has been activated.

Unlike fear, Taunt condition makes the target run at a specific direction: You. If you strafe around, the taunted target will turn to move towards you.

This condition is perfect for a warrior shout: “Coward!”.

Fear does make you run at a specific direction. Its directly oposite to the fear caster.

Yes! More conditions is exactly what this game needs right now!

While the idea is good, I dont think more conditions is what this game needs, considering we already have a strong condition-meta installed.

Warrior can be very fun in pvp, just a lot harder to play and less loved by Anet. Not everyone can do everything according to Anet, so Warriors can’t pvp I guess.

I would love to have that memo when I create character and chose class. “This class is not ment for PvP.”

This class specializes in COF1 and dishing out the most damage possible with a slight chance of not giving a kitten.

Sometimes as a guardian, in TPvP you get your weapon sets locked (Can only use one for the entire match), cant swap weapons! Dont know how this happens but its the second time!

You dont offer CC to put the other guy away from the point and you dont deal any damage to make people focus you.

Jumper it works most of the times when the glass is broken, but only if:

  • You are at a slight higher position than your target
  • If you jump right after using scorpion wire, so you meet this higher position requirement

GW1 Random Arenas is the equivalent of current SoloQueue, if your team has no bunker guardian and their team has, you are at a big disadvantage. It was the same situation in the “no-monk” teams vs 1-monk teams in GW1 Random Arenas

Perhaps the problem is that PvP isnt providing any money so Anet doesnt invest on it.
We already made suggestions for this to take place. Custom announcer voice packs, Custom engineer kit skins, permanent finishers, etc. There is a lot to pick up from, they just need to be creative.

Right now we PvPers cant just go ahead and buy gems just for sake of saying:

“Hey Anet really nice job you are doing, Im buying gems so that you know you are doing a great job and you should keep doing whatever it is you are doing in PvP!”

No, it doesnt and shouldnt work that way. I would buy PvP related stuff so they know that I like it and want to support PvP and want them to continue improving it.

Interesting idea, RoyHarmon.5398, but would that really satisfy the hope to have your suggestions implemented? Wouldn’t it then turn into “devs hit the check mark but they didn’t understand or implement” kind of thing? Maybe there is a middle ground, though.

Well then we could work on with the devs the reason why is that suggestion not implemented, and you guys could give us a brief explanation. All in all more transparent feedback between players and devs. We want to know what you are thinking aswell!

We talk to players of all skill levels. We closely monitor these forums, on top of what Jonathan said in SotG. As mentioned earlier, it’s not uncommon for devs to discuss these things in-game as well.

This may be surprising to some of you, but we’re capable of judging objective vs subjective feedback. It’s ingrained in our minds to analyze feedback this way (that is, after all, a huge part of a Quality Assurance testers job). It’s part of the process in game development.

It might not seem this way sometimes, but we definitely hear you.

So … does anyone from Anet ever play from Australia or other such lag rich countries to see how they could improve certain skills. For example, Ride the Lightning (/D air 4 on elementalist). With the nerfs to this skill (40 sec cd if you miss) you hardly ever have a 20 sec cd on this skill due to it missing due to lag. There are many other examples of lag affecting the game and skills as well.

In the end, just wondering if any of you have personal experience with how the lag affects the game, or if you have “players” from Aus in you band of buddies.

Thanks in advanced, an Australian player who deals with the lag everyday.

Thats an issue Australians suffer in EVERY game. It really isnt Anet’s fault.

Hi, primarily PvE player here… didn’t they also take away your way to get Gems from tournaments? I can’t get enough of the PvE content that they release, but one of the reasons I don’t sPvP anymore is because there’s nothing for me, heh. I like sPvP from time to time, I even made it to rank 28 and slowly want to make my way up so I can /rank with cooler drops, but I completely agree, they just aren’t releasing sPvP at the same rate. New maps seem to be the easiest for them, but I think there’s enough of them now and they do need to focus on something else. They’re past their target release maps, which is great considering the game launched with half of their target, lol.

Devil’s Advocate time: sPvP requires careful balance, they can’t just throw new content out for the masses or they’re more likely to get whiplash from the issues in it. They’re trying to stick to the game mode that takes more teamwork, but I think they said they’re working on new ones.

New maps aren’t determining factors for the sucess of PvP. This is not PvE where people will cry if they dont get a new zone every 1-2 monthes or so.

We need a proper infrastructure with proper rewards, with proper distinction between PvErs and PvPers, we need unique rewards to PvP, we need separation of Premades vs SoloQueuers, we need a more detailed deathlog, we need more game types (Look up Heroes Ascent, GW1), we need more players in PvP.

Notice how the last need doesnt compute because the lack of implementation of all the other previous needs. They cant even release a PvP-only edition for a cheaper price because the state of PvP is so kittening fragile it would be marketing suicide for the rest of the game!

PVPers are not being ignored. Skyhammer is a very fun map. Yes I agree WvW is being ignored. No new maps there.

Adding more labyrinths for the mice to get lost in for a couple more time doesn’t make the problem go away. In fact, when the mice is done with the prolonged labyrinth will be even more kitten ed off.

I’m quite disappointed at this skill as well.

After a warrior trying to knock me down from a platform in Obsidian Sanctum last
night, I switched one of my utilities to Scorpion wire, hoping to drag that kitten
down on his kitten . He was dragged towards me and then stopped on the edge and stood up.

I find this very unfair with Engineers, Guardians, Warriors, Elementalist and Mesmers having the ability to knock multiple people of ledges, ranger 1 target (and I think it’s piercing), necromancers fear multiple ppl off, while thief can’t even drag 1 target off with a rope.

For scorpion wire to work properly and pull them to you, you have to use it, and imediately jump after

With the introduction of the most recent update, the Bazaar of the Four Winds, some things became very clear:

  • PvErs are being favoured over PvPers
  • ArenaNet is forcing PvPers to PvE in order to get rewards for PvP
    (This last topic was obvious for a long time)

They assured us PvP rewards would be one of their top focus. With PvP rewards being introduced into Achievement Chests what does this mean for their goal?

PvErs have an easy access into the Achievement Score, so they will have an easier way into those PvP rewards and Zenith Weapons (which they can choose to use in PvE or PvP as they please).

Meanwhile, the majority of PvP-dedicated players dont get such an easy access to Achievements points, since Achievements in PvP is a painfully-long and dry road, absent of proper rewards.

An example of how imbalanced things are currently:.
In order to get my dragon wings in PvP I was forced into grinding PvE, just so I could use them in PvP, that is mockery and downright insulting.

Now on to a silly comparison since Bazaar of the Four Winds patch:

  • PvErs can walk in to the Mists and they have access to the same stats (just for the sake of the comparison, I agree stats in PvP should be equal) and new shiny armor from PvE content, while PvPers need to grind for months to get the dungeon-PvE equivalent armor in PvP (PvErs can just grind it in a week or days, example, Citadel of Flame armor).
  • PvPers walk into PvE and they have no stats whatsoever, no armor whatsoever, not even some shiny armor-skin from PvP events, usable in PvE, because there is none.

See where Im getting at? There is NO equality between PvE and PvP.
They are not separated enough to be fair for both of them!

Where are our rewards?

In Guild Wars 1 we had this amazing continous global tournament, the Heroes Ascent. If you won you would get some good-looking PvP gear, a chance to get a unique minipet to that chest and your team’s name would be broadcasted throughout the server chat. How awesome was that?
And we aren’t even going to talk about the different game modes HA had, because thats another story for another time. There are more pressing matters exisiting for far too long!

First of all, I wanted to get this out of my chest and get your feedback on this. Devs reading this through, answers are needed to slow down the tides of frustated PvPers. Believe me when I say this topic it’s not the vocal minority.

  • This is NOT good for the game as a whole, if a SPvPer was interviewed for a very important publication and asked his opinion about the game, would you be calm or anxious ArenaNet? If I were working in there I would be running to shut the guy up!

Things need to change.

Im hoping this to be a wake-up call for ArenaNet.
We can make this game work, but only with your help.

I’ve played around all the classes a bit and found that I like the Ranger best. She gets a pet!
But the shortbow could have a bit longer range, or maybe there is an upgrade I can get my hands on or a skill to increase range? I decided to play Ranger because they fight from a distance but ehhhh. Shortbow needs longer range. Thanks bye

About the S/D thing. You have no idea how to play it nor you acknowledge the advantage of using sword autoattack to cancel your other skills for added DPS. There’s more depth to thief than you think. It’s okay, you can go on to another class, there’s plenty to pick from
