Theres already so much imbalance in traits, why add more imbalance by letting us chose the minor traits?
Impretty sure i need those sigils more than the necro..Who necro uses them over geomancy anyway?? :S
We need to protect things that give access to stuff globaly to any class. You might have in your mind ranger and thief but this would affect everyone. And tbh damage in this game is insane.Ivew heard that people insist they remove the vigor traits..and i wonder how im supposed to fight a necro if i dodge half of the time and im dead in a fear chain? Imo they first must touch the damage output and then the dodge spam.
This will buff necros more..
Well if those other classes need sigils of energy to be in line with others who dont, then you can clearly point out something is wrong in the balance. 1 Sigil type cant be the root holding whatever string of balance we got left.
We need to start to changing stuff.
By making dodge more valuable (through being less accessible), and toning down damage across the board, splitting condition and damage from skills (eg. Marks. Chillblains should be used for the poison chill, as a kiting factor, and not as simply MOAR DMGZ MOAR SPAMZ)
See where I am getting at?
Jesus christ what is this obsession with modes?
If the combat itself doesnt keep you interested, new modes will only have the “release” effect for you, after that you realise new modes dont change the combat that you didnt like in the first place.
Even if other guy gets OOC and the thief doesnt, whats the point? Extra move speed wont help you trying to guess where the thief went, nor will it help you recapture the point faster after the thief disengaged.
This whole thing just seems like a hell of a lot of trouble for pretty much nothing. I dont see Anet wasting resources into this.
Should Sigils of Energy be removed from PvP?
In my opinion those sigils further agravate the spammy nature of gw2 combat, they give you more dodges to spam, to burn. By providing more dodges, it makes dodging less valuable and you are not doing it right if you dont dodge as soon as your endurance bar is full (otherwise are wasting endurance regen).
We need less dodges to make effective dodging more about skill rather than luck or who has more access to vigor and energy sigils.
If they were removed, would this change GW2 PvP combat positively? And would it open more viable sigils options, once the big predator was taken out?
The problem with your logic is that it doesn’t necessarily carry through to different skill levels. Once again, all the video shows is that ranger is good in low level play. Oops, don’t make another logical leap by inferring that I am denying they are good in high level play. I’m just saying the video is evidence of…. nothing much. His opponents might have been clicking for all you know. This could be the clicker world championship match, and he is the best clicker around. TBH, the thing that stood out to me most (after how horrible a match it was, seriously, after about 3 minutes ‘my eyes are going to bleed’ kept running through my head) was that he was surprisingly agile for someone who was clicking their abilities o.0
+1
Best clicker multiverse. We’ll see this fella at PAX2014 leading the ranks
I played my spirit ranger again tonight, but this time I just stood on a point and waited with all my spirits up. Sure enough, every single opponent came charging up and unloaded on me at point blank range, while ignoring the spirits. I even had a couple spirit rangers do the same thing so I just killed their spirits before they got to me and watched my pet tear them apart! It’s getting to the point where people are just killing themselves in a ridiculous manner.
Please people, take a lesson and use a little skill for once! Kill the spirits, THEN move in on the ranger!
Alright we will use a little skill and kill your spirit zoo first. What about you Spirit Rangers? When are you going to stop hiding behind the passive gameplay spirits provide?
(edited by Quickfoot Katana.8642)
Yes, but if they get immobilized before they misform, they can’t move in that state.
/edit: But now that you mention it. Conditions get cleansed on downed, aren’t they? If so, what i wrote above doesn’t work :/
Um… no… mistform is a stun breaker.
What the kitten? Stun breakers dont remove immobilize.
I think its time to stop sleeping. You’ve been dreaming for a few days now.
The fact that everyone in here agree that the video is a terrible play for both sides, yet the spirit ranger can did excellently. Whether they are hero hot join or not, a r40 player should not be killed that easy in less than 10s by a hand of r20 player, not with that kind of play, provided they are both coming from Hotjoin,or able to survive in team fight with that mouse-clicking play for a long time. “The spirit Ranger is not easy as you think”, I take it back, we never think it is THIS easy to play to be effective.
If rank was any indicative of player skill, you would be right. Unfortunately, in this game, you can gain a pretty substancial amount of rank without even grasping the concepts of the combat.
That just goes to show an even bigger problem than these FOTM builds, which is Hotjoin/casual play rewarding nearly as much if not more than competitive play (soloQ/teamArena).
That r40 could be a r10 for all I care, because thats the skill level I see him play.
Just dodge the pet…
Either
A. They’ve gone into beastmasterery and the pet is all of their damage.
B. The pet hits like a wet noodle.
C. Walk more than 2000 range away and the pet will stop attacking because of the stupid leash range.
Another Einstein who cant read the post before posting
He should know Americans take every gun threat very seriously, considering the amount of gun massacres they have.
You have to understand although it was clearly a joke, what if he actually brought a gun? ArenaNet would be held responsible and they have to play safe, as you can imagine.
Anet, just apologize to Helseth and make him lead of the balancing department.
This guy makes more sense then all the balance happened to this game since launch.
Apologies need to come from both sides imo. What he did was also extremely childish.
Anet snaps their fingers and….. Poof!
A MOBA style map and a Football style map appeared!
Seriously? You didnt even bothered to suggest stuff for those maps, just “anet pls i wantz”
Daecollo, I am disapointed.
Especially considering current state of the meta, their GW2 PvP’s first impression might not be favorable and GW2 potential PvP future base might be greatly diminuished.
There will be a free trial during August23-25 for Guild Wars 2!
Ive seen a lot of sad people saying they will create trial accounts and go on trolling SoloQ games. I cant stress enough how pathetic this is and this topic stands as a warning that things will probably get dark for soloQ’ers.
This also further enlightens the issue we’ve been seeing or SoloQ, it should have some kind of requirement to be able to join it, since it not only affects your account, it affects 9 other accounts.
Either having a reasonable amount of pvp matches played, some profession specific achievements, or rank (r10?) a limiting fator of being able to join the queue for Solo Arenas.
This whole problem becomes even more important on the long run, especially if they later decide to turn PVP free to play, or purchasable for a cheaper price.
Look at LoL for example, you cant go ranked as soon as you install the game! You have to play all the way through level 30, that can probably take 1-2 monthes depending on how much you play.
This whole GW2 mentality of “where I want it, and when I want it” is not fit for PvP. There is zero sense in making tournaments joinable as soon as someone creates an account and actually is an incentivizing fator to make a smurf account. Have you ever imagined if you could just join Ranked SoloQ in LoL at level 1? People would be making smurfs all the time!
This seriously needs to change.

The guy killed people without even having any spirits up – and running a Moa! To me that shows that the people he was playing against were really, really terrible. He got destroyed by a guardian with all spirits and moa up. If anything this video shows why spirit rangers need to be buffed, not nerfed!
Oh right, the people he play against is bad..Oh wait, he is a decent rank players, yet he only need to mouse-clicking to achieve his victory while other has to go through the bother to bind their key together to use effectively. Also, please re-watch the very first counter of him dueling the Eles and watch that Eles rank at the end, r40 vs r20,hotkey vs mouse-clicking. How on earth did he win that way.So tell me, between mouse-clicking and hot key binding, which gives you fast reaction? I choose this video simply because he literally mouse- clicking on skill and yet still do a very good job…. The ranger need Buff if anything show in this video,, yeah, right >_>!!!
Regardless, that ele was trash. R40? Just another hotjoin hero. They were all bad in this game, but the baddie with overpowered build clearly has an advantage.
I seriously doubt Anet will bother to watch Helseths Rant of the week, due to the current state of their relation.
Even if they do watch his rants its unlikely they will admit having watched it, but I would like to be proven wrong.
If that pax incident never happened, helseth’s dedication to gw2 would be unquestionable and probably followed Powerr’s path becoming a part of Anet
He is a clicker and a 2man capper, plus plays as a completely clueless guy. We already know spirit ranger is really easy to play, whats the point of this thread exactly?
Spirit rangers WILL be nerfed, and these people riding the op train will start to lose way more often at their soloQs.
God kitten it Atherakhia, this isnt about thieves dropping target, its about ANY class that can position themselves cleverly to hide their position from the ranger, still getting discovered because of how the pet AI works. At the moment pets are a walking player radar and that rewards/incentivizes passive play which is a small branch that scales all the way up into the core problem issue tree that gw2 combat suffers from: mindless spamming.
Theres not enough/non existent punishment to stop people from passiveplaying or spamming skills at will.
All these little things add up and turns crystal clear the murky waters of GW2 combat.
If you havent realised how bad this hurts the game now AND on the long run, I recomend you to watch helseth’s video about spamming.

^
As much as I’d love to have a free Endure Pain trait with zero internal cooldown that activates automatically at 25% HP, it’s just not going to happen.
You could even use the same argument of “don’t rely on spamming X, use Y instead!!” and it still won’t justify a warrior having an automatic endure pain trait with zero internal cooldown.
Engineers should be no exception to balance.
Except a hard counter to a warrior getting endure pain at 25% is condition damage. And TBH I don’t think anyone would freak out too much if that got no ICD on it because there are plenty of ways to whittle that warrior down when they hit 25%. THE SAME THING APPLIES TO ENGIS AND AR.
As a thief how am I supposed to kill said warrior? Spam /taunt and hope he chases me and hurts himself by tripping on a rock? Not even a rock would work. A condition eock however… ( I am still in search of such myth..)
Yeah.. its not gonna happen.
The reason why AR is fine with no ICD is because every weaponset and skillset has direct damage inbuilt, under the conditions applied. An Endure Pain with no ICD would be far more abusive.

I would rather just wait it out a bit. Atleast they get more time to actually get it right, instead of making rushed changes.
im sure he knows the exploits of Idiot Savants in GW championships in leipzig.
Care to explain? I tried to look it up but cant find anything on the matter
(edited by Quickfoot Katana.8642)
Jonathan, I think you guys are doing an awesome job. I hear people whining over the Ranger, but then I play some matches with my beloved Norn Ranger and it’s more fun than ever. I also love my Mesmer, started a 2nd Mesmer just because…
thanks and keep up the good work
ITT: Spirit Rangers
It was me in fact that posted the link Godofallu
Found a problem with your build, namely on the staff ele. AoE is limited to 5 targets (including spirits and other AI). That may not seem like a lot, but by depending on staff ele to dish out the spirits health away RNG may not be your friend and instead target the guardian, the tanky spirit of nature and etc, you know what I mean?
Well if equilibrate is what we need Anet is gonna need to hire a equilibrator because we cant just stand all this unequilibrium anymore!!
I found a highly recommendable equilibrator with experience in the industry; ANET pls!!
(edited by Quickfoot Katana.8642)
There is NOT ENOUGH playerbase for you to do divisions or even a more filtered matchmaking.
I know I was not targetted because I especifically tested this with a ranger friend in an empty server. Otherwise I would just be making a fool out of myself.
Again, you can’t read apparently. No one in here as said that the pet is chasing you from the other side of the map.
What this is saying is that when you are out of sight of the ranger, and that player doesn’t even dream that you are there hidden, he gets rewarded for not knowing squat, because his pet finds the hidden player, passively. That isn’t encouraging active play. That is rewarding passive playing and clueless people that don’t have situational awareness. Meanwhile the people using the intricacies of the maps to their advantage are punished by a bad designed AI.
This isn’t about pet’s F2 abilities, this isn’t about pet’kittenting moving targets. Have you read the OP at all?
Letting an AI passively do the job for you is BAD DESIGN, unless the goal is to promote passive play, which I sincerely doubt that’s the direction ArenaNet wants to take.
What makes you say this? For god’s sake look how many traits there are that automatically cast abilities at certain HP thresholds or when certain criteria are met. Warriors get an auto stunbreak and stability when hit by a CC.
Take a hint.
Oh so you think passive gameplay is a thing that it’s okay and we should just accept it instead of making them see that’s not what we want?
Playing to the best of their ability and constantly whining in map chat about X teammate that is doing Z are completely opposite things that can’t coexist
But spirit rangers will suffer some tweaks after PAX.
This is a mechanical issue that won’t get resolved unless attention is brought to it.
I don’t want to see rangers nerfed to the ground. In fact, fixing this won’t affect a single thing inyour average gameplay while positively pushing the game into a more higher skill cap, where actually looking around your surroundings (situational awareness) is rewarding.
Letting an AI passively do the job for you is BAD DESIGN, unless the goal is to promote passive play, which I sincerely doubt that’s the direction ArenaNet wants to take.
Yeah because that will help incentive the already large number of whiners when your team starts to lose by 70 points at start.
“omg 35% chance to win, why bother lmao im out guyzz glhf”
I’m still surprised we don’t have a Negative Attitude report button. Sometimes the guy isn’t using offensive language but he is constantly whining and that makes the team’s perfomance drop, besides its annoying as kitten.
35% is a really low percentage. 800 is a really high percentage. One of those two is off by a lot. If you can’t carry at 35%, well you aint carrying at 800 either.
35% percentile you are obliged to win 1v3s for gods sake. Grab your guy and place him at their close and WIN fights. They’ll come in zerg or 1 by 1.
I got into Platinum V in League Of Legends so I think Im fully aware of what a high skill cap game is. And Im pointing out that this current AI behaviour is not helping reward skillful play, but instead rewarding non-skilled play, just like you said.
Just keep in mind those screenshots you see posted all over the forums, are the cases where that does happen. None posts a screenshot when that sort of thing didn’t happen right?
There you go, the problem in here is feedback perception. Only the one upset by a couple of odd matches go as far as screenshot it and post it on the forums. Meanwhile, the majority of people just presses “Join Solo Arena” button again.
There’s no way in hell you will play vs top 25 teams at the 800 level. I am at 600 and after 30 games there was only 1 match that had 2 guys that were ranked 100s and 160s
(edited by Quickfoot Katana.8642)
I’m saying its AI-maphack, its seen in almost every game, it’s not a hack. Tell me something why do you feel a clueless Ranger, with no map awareness, that would just capture the point the walk away, rightfully being punished by allowing me to neutralize it, should be rewarded because the AI does the searching for him, regardless of not being to actually see me?
The reason the MMR matcher is “unfair” is because some people are scared to play, how do you want the system to work if everyone is scared to play? Hum? About 60% of the people in the Leaderboards have less than 30 games played. That’s nothing. That gives the system nothing to work on accurately.
This Ladder anxiety is so much common in every other game that has competitive Ladders that I grew tired of hearing about it.
This problem originates from players thinking they deserve X rating but are afraid to find out if that’s really true, because if it happens to be a “lie” how will the rest of the community look upon them if they don’t meet the expectations said players have set for themselves. It’s usually a sympton of lack of self-confidence in one’s habilities and skills to achieve their goals.
You should just stop caring about Leaderboards, I don’t see anyone taking Leaderboards any seriously, especially with our current meta. It’s a game, and not everyone is a pro player and what’s wrong with that? You can still be an above average player and that means you are better than most of the people.

Hello Silentshoes,
We are tired of your QQ threads
Sincerely,
The PvP forums
It’s not even close to being the same thing. Don’t compare the two things.
1 is a MOBA. 1 is a MMO. Guess which one is more resource heavy.
And especially considering the skin-pool for PvP is significantly smaller than in PvE.
Adding up:
Slower rewards + lower number of rewards = a beautiful crappy system
The real question is, are a lot of the players worth talking to?
While it would be cool if they listened to some of us, I’d be happy with the “we think this is currently OP/UP/bugged, so we’re working on it” approach. You know, just so we get a glimpse of what sort of gameplay they’re aiming for, instead of trying to recreate it blindly after the patch hits.
I hate comparing devs to devs, but it’s fitting in this situation. Riot does a great job of communicating their intentions and their plans for champions, items and maps weeks, if not months in advance.
There we go. See the problem? Riot is in charge of only one “game”. Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have the same success LoL does, and besides, it’s separated into three different “games”.
Lower budget + lower amount of devs responsible for balance = Misconception
Unless they up the PvP teams’ resources that sort of things is NOT going to happen anytime soon.
^Nice try Jon Peters
I would advise you watch some GW2 PvP streams. The most important in streams is more often the explanations they can offer while playing and that doesnt really happen in most of the streams listed above. Granted those are great players but it seems to me you are more interested in the thought process of playing.
There are really informative and good players that keep explaining play-by-play, move-by-move why they do what as they go, just as if they are shoutcasting the game.
I’ll list a couple examples that are my favorites and helped me improve quite a bit:
Misa – Mesmer – Causality Stab – http://www.twitch.tv/causalitygaming
CMC – Elementalist – http://www.twitch.tv/cmcgw2/
Zoose – Elementalist – http://www.twitch.tv/thundercatshoooo/ (Think he has left GW2, not sure though)
Stunningstyles – Guardian – http://www.twitch.tv/stunningstyles
Caed – Thief – http://www.twitch.tv/narcarsis/i just watched causality stab and i have to say he is really not the best mesmer..better watch helseth play
Like I said its not about being the best but having the streamer explain stuff as he plays and Causality does a great job at that. I like watching Helseth aswell but he doesnt offer as much insight to new players.
I think the time it takes to rank up is fine. In GW1 less than 10 people hit max Fame Dragon Rank 15 and they dedicated over 5 years to get it. What I don’t appreciate is the fact that people can rank up in Hotjoin win or lose. I believe you should have only been able to rank up in tournament play AND only gain rank points when you win. Only the truly sPvP dedicated should hit the higher ranks.
I watch all of the live streams and SotG and no point have they ever mentioned Rank Progression. They only talk about the rewards in general. I think they are specifically referring to items and gear that can be used outside of the HotM and sPvP in general.
And even less for max Gladiator title. Matter of fact, I don’t think anyone maxed Gladiator. Highest I’ve ever seen was r10. I think the “Rank” system in this game is fine. I said it in another thread earlier, but PvP Titles/Rank isn’t something you just get in a week, month, or a year. It’s not something for casual players, it’s for those that are going to stick around for awhile, if not the long-haul. It’s these players that deserve it, not someone who plays 1-hour a day farming nodes through matches.
If this bothers you, then you should probably look elsewhere if the way PvP is handled here irritates you. It’s probably not going to change, and I hope it doesn’t.
Problem is that in GW1 those ranks were only achievable by actually good players, since winning in a row rewarded incresingly more points. In GW2 thats not the case. Everyone gets points rewarded regardless of skill. And that is not right by any means.
(edited by Quickfoot Katana.8642)
It doesnt need to be a Thief, and it doesnt need to be targetted. The pet has a really aggro bubble and obstacles mean squat to him, thats what we call AI maphack
(edited by Quickfoot Katana.8642)
Only spvpers could complain that ranger pets are OP…
It’s the kittening PvP forums do you expect a topic about how they suck at PvE? Thanks for bumping the thread.
