Solo Queue win = 400 glory, 700 rank points, 25 silver
Solo Queue loss = 150 glory, 150 rank points, 12.5 silver
Team Queue win = 500 glory, 1300 rank points, 30 silver
Team Queue loss = 175 glory, 175 rank points, 15 silver

Assuming 50% win ratio for Solo Queue, you get (on average, per match):
275 glory, 425 rank points, 18.75 silver
For Team Queue you need to attain a 30.769% win ratio to get the same average glory per match.
You need to attain a 22.222% win ratio to get the same average rank points per match.
You need to attain a 25% win ratio to get the same average silver per match.

Of course, 100% loss in a Team Queue is still typically better than anything you could hope to farm in a hot join. So if you’ve been using hotjoins for farming, just go lose a load of Team Queues…who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky and win, then it’s way over the top compared to hotjoin. Of course assuming the Queues are relatively short. Otherwise as you were.

No I’m not a hotjoin farmer. I’m a pretty well ranked SoloQ player and I find Team Arenas matches more consistent and faster, thus rewarding. Today I played 10 Team Arenas and I only lost one.

For all it’s worth I’m from EU so the Team Arena scene is more active here, thus less change in fighting a premade.

Picking up on HOTW last boss of story mode, here’s a redesigned encounter worthy of fractals or a new dungeon!

The Huntsman and his pet Bane’s Teeth

Situation:
Player’s fight in a circular ice area, falling out of this area translates in falling into water filled with high-damaging sharks (basically u’re dead)

Mechanic:
Gluttony

The Huntsman Abilities

Pull: The same ability as Kholer

Throw Bear Trap: Throws 3 traps randomly to the area, lasting 10 seconds or until triggered. These traps cause an uncleansable immobilize for 5 seconds and cause Bane to take aggro onto you.

Hunter’s Call: If hit for the full duration of this you are dealt 15k damage over 3 seconds, so you will need to dodge atleast once to survive if you are squishy or at low health!
Hornet’s Sting(1): same skilll. very high damaging melee skill and causes the boss to evade backwards after.
Monarch’s Leap(2): same skill. high damage and causes cripple for 5 seconds.

Throw Food: The Huntsman throws a juicy steak to a random player’s location. If Bane passes through that food he will consume it, gaining 10 stacks of Gluttony and healing both bosses for 10% and grating swiftness and protection for 10 seconds.

Forked Arrow Barrage: The Huntsman charges for 3 seconds, glowing red. After the channel he rotates 360 degrees while spraying shots that deal high damage and inflict 12 bleed stacks. Can be reflected, dodgeable.

Concussion Shot: The Huntsman charges for 3 seconds and then fires a fiery arrow that knocks-back the player hit. Can be reflected, dodgeable and the CC-negated by stability.

Lightning Shield: The Huntsman places a lightning shield on target player. This shield grants the player swiftness and doesn’t damage the target player, but it deals very high DoT damage to surrounding allies. This shield also stops Bane’s Eat skill.

Bane’s Teeth Abilities:

Eat: Bane channels during 1 seconds and then uses the skill, being able to move while the player is being digested. Similar to FOTM Jellyfish. Player is inside Bane’s Teeth. Each second the player is being eaten, Bane gains 1 stack of Gluttony and Might. Eat can be cancelled by kiting Bane to a Huntsman AoE or hitting Bane with Lightning Shield (this does not damage Bane, only cancels the digestion process). If bane digests the player during 15 seconds, or until he reaches 15 Gluttony stacks, he downs that player and spits him out to a random location in the area.

Jormag’s Breath: Bane channels for 1.5 seconds. After the channel it spits a icy breath, damaging and chilling enemies hit by hit. Every 1/2 second hit by Jormag’s Breath player’s gain 1 stack of Ice Vault. At 10 stacks that player is encased in an Ice Vault, unable to attack. The Vault must be broke with other party members attacks. Players with more than 5 stacks of Jormag’s Breath are also encased in Ice Vault if they attempt to attack one. If a Ice Vault endures more than 7 seconds without being destroyed, it explodes, downing the encased player and triggering an AoE Meteor Shower (Ice version) on the entire area, with random locations of impact (similar to FOTM Ice Shaman)

Leap: Bane leaps at the furthest player, launching players hit during the flight path towards the victim.

At 15 stacks of Gluttony, Bane’s abilities are empowered. Bane consumes all the 15 stacks and temporarily grows in size and does a massive circular Tail-Swipe that hits the entire Area. Players hit by it are knocked back (into the shark area if they are not carefull enough). If Tail-Swipe fails to hit any players, Bane repeats the attack one last time, gaining swiftness for 20 seconds. (unstealable swiftness).
Tail-Swipe deals 10K damage, it’s dodgeable, aegis’able and the knock back is negated with stability or mid-air stunbreaks.

Leap-Gluttony. Bane Leaps again after Leaping to a target. Leap ‘s flight path now leaves an icy wall that is uncrossable or destroyable. This wall melts after 15 seconds and is mostly used for heavily restricting player’s movements on the area if the two Leap victims are heavily scattered!

Jormag’s Breath-Gluttony. Starts a radial AoE starting from the edges of the area to the center. After the waves reach the center, Bane gain’s quickness for 5 seconds and will use Jormag’s Breath normal version. Be careful that, with quickness, Ice Vault debuff stacks will tick faster!!

TeamQ advantages:

  • Better rewards for winning/losing
  • Faster Queue time

This is incorrect. Solo times are around 5 minutes for me, 10 minutes for Tpvp.

There are also fewer people in Tpvp so you often get put against top 50 teams even if you aren’t even top 1000 so you might be getting lower rank per hour.

But I agree that the win bonus for solo q is too low. It should be the same multiplier as tpvp (5x) because the reward was already smaller before this bonus (150 for soloq 200 for tpvp). This was a good ratio.

I am at EU, I usually get a queue pop in 1 minute if not instantly for Team arenas when queueing solo or with a friend.

Depends when you queue it could take a lot longer and likely hood of getting stomped by a real premade group.

Not with these new rewards. Team Arenas are so actively populated by solo’ers, duoer’s that you dont even notice a difference. You get an ocasional premade team and it’s still far better than playing on Skyhammer, Spirit Watch.

Solo que is completely random and anyone has a 50% chance to win…
for dem rank points and tourny chest..

Team Arenas provide more rank points for your time, and matchmakings works the same way for SoloQ or TeamQ so the 50% chance to win argument is redundant.

This is why a great deal of SoloQ’rs are switching to TeamArenas! Keeping up this pace and Solo Arena will end deserted and we’ll be back to square one.

Can we have a stream with the Skills and Balance Team. Whenever the subject Balance is brought up on the stream’s chat the developer’s answer saying that is S&B team area of expertise.

So instead of having the S&B team as a permanent behind-the-scenes team can we hear what they have to say or what arguments they present for a possible healthy balance discussion?

This would only help the game even more.

Let’s take a look at the new TA path, it has been suggested countless times to make cinematics skippable and atleast take a look at how skewed dungeon gold rewards are cofp1 = sep2? what?

I’m pretty sure burning is effected by crits since I swapped in some cavalier gear in place my magi and my burn damage went up so I need to see some of your math on that to get a better idea of what you’re talking about. There are also really in-depth guides to pve burning so it has to be good, no? Plus dungeon bosses hit so hard how you supposed to stay alive with a one hand sword?

Oh and I heard for ele 0/0/0/10/10 is the new meta. Due to the trait changes, having more stats actually HURTS you rather than helps.

Dont sell paths alone, get a friend to stick around until you get full party. The best optimal way is to solo the dungeon, and before you start selling, fill the party all the way up to 4/5 with guildies or friends and then start LFG. This will prevent your party from being merged and ending your instance. As soon as the buyer joins, kick 1 guildie and repeat until its full.

I have only once used the merged party function to kitten someone’s instance. And that’s when he stated he would pay 1,5g for help at tar Arah p1 and then he and his guildie kicked everyone that helped without paying the cash. I memorized their names and once they listed their LFG with intention of selling the path, I ended their instance.

Personally my only grip with leaderboard is the excessive decay. Not even other competitive games like League of Legends have such a huge decay.

I was ranked 51 at the SoloQueue Leaderboards, and in 6 days without playing I dropped to 601 position.

Excuse me but it isnt one line of code.

They used one command who turned him enemy. This wouldn’t work for dueling.

Dueling needs to be a consense decision between two players, and not just 1 player forcing the duel down the other player’s throat.

They would need to develop a rightclick command, for easy-to-acess, and not a chat command. They would need to make a new UI-box pop up requiring the other player to either accept or deny the duel. Those text boxes would need to be localized, etc. Not to mention their style would need to be formatted to GW2-UI style.

Then there’s also the question of how a duel ends? Does it end with 1 downed player, does it end with a stomp? How do you deal with armor repairs from after the dueling if you finish the other player? How to disable that feature momentarily? Can people abuse dueling to avoid getting armor repair (fighting mobs while “dueling”)? What constitutes a dueling-zone?

Questions, questions.

I’m not saying it’s hard, but it ain’t easy either as you’re all making it to be.

Still, in WoW there was no need to dodge the boss one-shot attack, unlike GW2

WoW also has a very UI-driven combat, unlike GW2. GW2 relies on animations to provided a dynamic combat. Problem is that effect clutter these telegraphs/animations, and you can’t see, thus you can’t dodge and you die.

This is why Effect’s clutter is such a big issue in GW2 compared to other games.

No it doesnt go away. It has a brief delay, meaning you stack the mobs, you cleave them, do a dodge roll and come out swinging.

ugh… probably not inaccurate but I didn’t level up so many to just play Warrior and Guardian; and none of mine are zerkers.

Seriously. You were told Zerker is the go-to armor for every class, you have 8 classes and none of them has zerker gear? Talk about being stubborn.

Sorry for being harsh, but you ain’t going to “shine” in any dungeon unless you have zerker gear. If you don’t have DPS in GW2, you are a dead weight and you are getting carried by the other 4 members. As simple as that.

Nah thats just what they said on the stream. So their idea of discouraging ranging could be a really poor instability which doesnt really stop people from ranging.

It might just be: All mobs reflect projectiles.

And then we will cringe when all the bads continously keep killing themselves over and over again. Or we see a reddit thread about how rangers cant complete the fractal with that instability because they cant range

Well i don’t play my Elementalist in Fractal and i don’t play a lot with the staff so i’m really not a expert. But i used to play in high level fractal with a good elementalist. (But he stopped playing now so its been a while since the last time i play with him).

Anyway, he made the Shaman really more easy. With his staff, he use Water skill 4 to slow down the shaman in his shield so only 1 or 2 people could burst his shield down easy while the rest of us DPS the elemental. Meteor shower was a good burst to drop elemental health and for the rest of the fight he was keeping the elemental group and away from us by using his cc. Frozen Ground in water, Gust and Static Field in air, and skill 4 and 5 in Earth. By the time he went through all of his cc, usually they are all dead and nobody died. At one point he was the last alive, 3 of us where dead and 1 down. He rush to him, rez him in mist form, let the other one deaggro with a spy kit and he kept the boss on him at the other side of the room while the other one rez the whole team. With my guardian i can do that if I have 1 person alive with me, but rezzing a downed guys before doing that, this is was awesome.

Again this is not really the profession, but the player behind it. Longbow Ranger seem to receive a lot of hate in fractal, but on of the best fractal player i know is a longbow ranger. At shaman he use his elite skill to root the boss when in his shield, then i use my Shield to protect his roots, giving us way enough time to kill all the elemental while the boss don’t move. In the mean time he was able to rapid fire, switch to shortbow and finish the boss’ shield by his own.

Then have you noticed that has nothing to do with using longbow, but about using Entangle? A Sword ranger using Entangle in the same way would be even more efficient and thus, helpful for the team.

What I wished they could have done, was have people chose a server name for WvW but otherwise just have one big server for PvE. That they have an overflow system where new maps are created as they get filled up. That way the PvE maps would have all the players from the servers in them and would be a lot busier that way.

It’s probably a tech-related problem that lead to this

People are “mean” because they only care about the end reward. It’s not about having fun or enjoying combat. It’s about loot Loot LOOT!

I still think it’s a huge problem this game needs to address.

What this game needs to address is the lack of CHALLENGING content.

Current dungeons are way too easy, and very dull mechanics-wise. And you wonder why the hell people only care about finishing a boring dungeon? You think people have fun fighting bosses with no particular difficulty whatsoever? Because we don’t.

All I can say is: Do NOT join a speedrun/experienced group if you are not kittening experienced. They won’t like you, and you won’t like them, so save everyone some time and read the LFG before joining.

Seriously 90% of the players don’t read what’s written in the LFG and then are confused why were they kicked or what the kitten is going on.

If you join a speedrun and you ask for advice is not as bad, but you are still hopping in on the train to get CARRIED, no matter how much you deny it.

Do you really think they go into such detail when designing fractals? They just let the artificial scaling difficulty run up to 30 defiant stacks, like usual.

When I see Anet failing so hard trying to fix “exploits” in FOTM for over one year(when people just take 2 minutes to find a workaround after the “fix”, eg. Jade Maw), I can’t really believe in their ability to do one kittening thing right anymore.
