This thread highlights the problem very well and I hope the developers catch an eye on this.

This thread started out as a marketing problem. We are now seeing in several posts that is not the only problem. Better tutorial, engaging storytelling, increased open world PvE difficulty: to create experiences, not drive-by’s.

That’s what Guild Wars 2 NEEDS, but more importantly, that’s what Guild Wars 2 deserves.

This is why they are changes for their own custom arena, and not to the game.

And thus it would be more or less pointless as a method of balancing the game, which I assumed was the whole point of the OP.

PvP community tournaments are hosted in custom arenas.

This provides pathways for the competitive crowd to have a niche balanced scenario, and the more casual crowd have a fun way to mess around in custom arenas, example:

Only Hammer guardian weapon skills deal damage (so high that it oneshots- 100k dmg): while the rest deal 0, can you imagine the outplays? 1 guy dodges the auto backwards, only to riposte back with hammer #2 (small jump), which in turns makes the other guy need to dodge aswell and it goes on and on until 1 guy makes a mistake. This is sounding pretty fun to me.

Hell, I would buy my own custom arena if this was implemented, as Im sure a lot of you would.

Leaving balancing to players is most of the time not a good idea.
Sure the devs can be biased as well, but not even close to on the same level as the players.

Not to mention the whole kneejerk reaction we see on these forums for every single little thing changed. Those kind of people shouldn’t make decisions.

This is why they are changes for their own custom arena, and not to the game.

Not sure if its feasible though and how it will affect the code OR provide means for hackers to alter it. Evan is the coding genius around here, he could comment on that.

When a dungeon takes more time to open than to complete you know you got a problem.

The reason for this is to put both PvE and PvP players on the same level once the 4/15 build hits. So PvP only players wouldn’t be the only people that need to run the dungeons on 4/15.

Leave us pve players with our advantage. I mean, so what if the pvp players are left alone and forced to run through the story dungeons, do you really think they are not capable of completing story dungeons? Stop dragging other players into doing unnecessary homework. If you leave pve players with this advantage, they will have another reason to go to pvp without making it an additional hassle to go through all the dungeons again.

I’m simply pointing out that the problem isn’t unique to Thieves, nor are Thieves causing it. The game was designed that way and it seems intended as far as Anet is concerned with the direction of the game.

Let’s talk about how Thieves are toxic for the game, when you Sensotix play an AI class whose best strenght is the most annoying one: cluttering teamfights with effects and AI units.

What’s broken about Thief isn’t any of those stuff. It’s the fact that bad thieves can get away with spamming because there’s not enough punishment for playing poorly in this game.

That is not a problem exclusive to Thief, it’s an issue seen throughout the classes. It just seems aggravated on Thief because of the initiative system: it allows bad players to do those kind of mistakes more frequently and the low/lack of punishment that it comes with it.

Other classes are locked by cooldowns, so the mistake → no punishment becomes less apparent.

But it’s there, in every single one of the classes. The game is designed to be fail-friendly for new players/casuals. I don’t think that’s ever gonna change and it’s a kitten shame.

Im gonna be totally honest.

I dont think removing jewells will hurt the game. Jewels are just minor stats. They add build diversity? Sure, but in the wrong way.

Traits, runes, sigils are the right way to add build diversity and those ways are all being increased and their systems improved upon. That’s a step up for Guild Wars 2 combat whether you like it or not.

Why should the min-max combination of stats play an important role in PvP, when traits/rune are much more about what each player theorycrafts and/or prefers, rather than a simple stats boost, absent of skill or thought put into it.

To improve Heart of the Mists:

Make it Zone-wide (EU-Wide, NA-Wide), not by Servers.

Add 2 FFA Pits where players can fight anyone there.

Add a queue-ready notification sound.

6 games I’ve made this week on Team Arenas.

On each and every game I had a troll/rager/flamer. This is getting worse and worse everytime I log in on GW2 to play some PvP.

The majority of those offenders act like that because, and I’m quoting one of them: “You think reports do anything? You gonna report me for what?”

This one is also recurrent: “you think anet cares??”

So please, Anet show these kittens you actually care and bring better report options for those players, instant dishonor when said players are reported repeateadly in several matches.

I used to get sick of GW2 PvP because of disgusting builds, now I get sick of GW2 PvP because of disgusting attitudes.

The only reason I don’t experiment more with classes is because my rating is pretty high, in the range that I’m not allowed to experiment stuff if I want to stay there.

I’m betting the PvP backpack will be extremely easy for anyone to get.

All I wanted for PvP were some unique PvP rewards. Rewards that could show: kitten that guy is an experienced PvP. He’s been at it for more than a year with stagnate meta/scene, mediocre/useless rewards, decreasing population.

We won’t have anything to show for our skill in PvP. Even those 5 legendaries from the tournament will be squashed away from all the PvE legendaries spam.

We didn’t get retroactive rank points based on past tournaments. We didn’t get anything for our Glory Boosters. We ain’t getting anything for our PvP mats.

While FGS has pretty much become standard in the increasingly stale speedrunning meta, I don’t think straight nerfing it is the right way to go. For one, its use is very limited outside of PvE/door busting in WvW. A better thing to do would be to make enemies that aren’t dumb enough to stand in a fire trail that’s chunking their health for 400,000 in several seconds.

Oh so like the system they had for mobs in GW1?

What if by playing a different class you were attributed a different rating?

I might very well be a top thief in SoloQ but if I grab my Elementalist I’m being matched agaisnt people of my Thief’s skill level. That hardly seems fair to me and to my teammates.

Having a separate MMR for each profession would solve this Unranked Queue issue, because if you were going to try a class, you could start that class’ ranking from fresh.

Were people this mad when they made a $10,000.00 tournament? That was for real money, did the pve community cry then? The winning team could have bought a few legendary weapons with the winnings. So why so much crying now? The best 5 players this time don’t get money, or graphics cards, or any real world loot. They win a legendary weapon that arena net owns, that they get to show off. Personally if I was one of the top pvp players I would rather have another chance at the $10,000.00 not some legendary.

Big difference. If someone buys legendaries on the TP someone else spent the effort to build them. Here Anet pulls 10 legendaries (5 NA, 5 EU) out of nowhere.

Now I know why you are so worked up about this. You are actually proud of being one of the guys with most Achievement Points in the game, as if the Achievements themselves were actually challenging to get.

10 people will come out of this tournament with a Legendary. And I can stand by this claim that they will be in fact, worthy of one. Can you say the same about the PvE method of getting Legendaries? Where a skilled individual might try for years and not get one sight of a precursor, where a bowbear comes along and gets first shot first suceed at getting a precursor? Where’s the effort/worthiness there huh?

Whenever I see a guy walking by with a Legendary in PvE, I’m not impressed. But you’re kitten right I’m gonna be impressed when I see a guy walking with a Legendary in PvP. That shows what he has done, and what he is capable of.

Of course this whole scenario will be flushed down the toilet when Anet allows for skin-cross over between PvE and PvP. Then the 10 legendaries in PvP will mean absolutely nothing to the infinite-spam of PvE legendaries, created through luck and mindless grinding.

I’m not sure I’m following this. Hidden Killer + Stone heart just means that the attack that will break the Thief’s stealth will show up as a big red 0 on the elementalist.

I am going to ask a couple questions that are probably on everyone’s minds:

Where were all you cry-hards when the PAX Tournament was announced?

In case you missed it because you were too busy buying a couple quaggan backpacks on the gemstore, the PAX Tournament gave 10K dollars to the winning team.

Now do you happen to even guess the amount of legendaries that could be bought with all that money? Do you?

For once, Legendary items are actually the showcasing of skill in this game and there are players who manage to speak badly about that.

You had your chance to complain back then. I rest my god kitten case.

I’m being serious here. Not once in any game striving to be competitive I’ve seen people being rewarded for losing. It just doesn’t make sense!

I can imagine one asnwer to this question and I’m not liking it: rewards for PvP are becoming casual-based aswell.

Because otherwise people rage quit the moment they start losing.

I mean have you even played in solo Q?

If people can’t behave themselves and push together towards a win, and they ragequit, there’s a simple solution for that Ban them. Ban every afk/raging casual until all that is filtered and we end up with a much more smoother competitive athmosphere.

Play soloQ/teamQ. No one is actually REALLY REALLY wanting to win. Everyone is like “meh” throughout the game and their face becomes a smile if they win, or just completely neutral if they loss.

it’s called a “consolation prize” and every competitive sport/event/function hands them out for showing up to compete.

but if you want to be a fascist about it…

Please tell me where is the consolation prize when you lose in LoL ranked, hell, even normal games?

No new dungeons coming anytime soon. I’m still astonished to what they are doing for the much-awaited Feature Patch.

You got the Living Story teams, the Skills and Balance Team, QA testers and Artists.

So far from the Feature Patch blogposts, all the items presented were clearly in charge by the Skills and Balance Team.

The Artists are pumping out skins for the gemstore

The Living Story team is obviously working on the living story

The QA testers are constantly testing the Living Story content the earlier team pumps out.

So it seems to me they have no backup team producing tangible content other than the Living Story content.

My point aswell is that by rewarding players that lose, you are stripping away a good majority of the competitivity, where people don’t care if they win or lose.

To be honest the only reason I care “a bit” about losing it’s because it drags down for a tiny percentage my win/loss ratio.

There’s not enough incentive to win and that’s why the scene is dead.

When you come to think about it, it’s really sad we have come to this. Where the most engaging/challenging part of the game is actually managing and swapping stuff around while rushing between encounters and not the actual encounters themselves.

This has opened my eyes once again.

Wait What? Slow down speedy Gonzales. A preview is speeking about being able to switch trait around and right away its : Oh kitten game, its only trait switching and nothing else in the game. WTF.

It’s just the impression you get from seeing extremely skilled people like Sanderinoa happy for that change. That’s how low we have gotten, where we don’t expect anything anymore and we are just dogs waiting for them to throw a piece of bone.

Like I said before, currently there’s more challenge/dynamic to this game in in-between encounters than the actual encounters themselves.

Rank points bug?

This is a UI bug. You only get 5 rank points per top-stat, but each UI alert is showing your total rank point gain from top-stats. This would have started happening after we made rewards time-based. We’ll work on getting this fixed. Thanks for the report!

What about the fact that the Rank Points you get doesn’t add up for the Rank Point Ttitles? Gladiator, Mercenary, Avenger, Ransacker, Marauder, Ravager etc.. People who’s done tPvP has been leveling without getting these titles. Hotjoiners are R35 with Ransacker, tPvPers are R50 with 5/10 Ransacker.. Shouldn’t be like this.

This has been addressed previously, and will have a retroactive fix.

As title states.

I’m interested in knowing if you are improving the tutorial to improve the new player experience. Currently there’s a giant cap for new PvPers that could be fullfilled by producing a better tutorial with insight on each game mode and more basic tips, maybe even class-specific tips!

… Does this mean I cant create a new character to fool around wih in pvp… But have to get 8 character slots, and unlock all traits on each profession and NEVER be allowed to delete and recreate one with different race/looks, because ill lose all traits?

That better not be the case…. I have alot of lvl2 haracters that are just there for pvp, and i occasionally recreate them :/.

It probably means you have to buy it.

I just hope existing traits are unlocked by default for pvp… It would e rather unfair if a completely new player jumped in pvp to try it out… But had 0 traits :P

Crafting - The bridge between PvP and PvE?

I, for one, always hated PvP-crafting in order to get the skins I wanted. Especially if that crafting also comes with RNG of different skins.

What I want is a clear and objective reward table, based on gameplay and not on Crafting. for example:

  • 150 tournament wins with a class using a sword main-hand build
  • 150 tournament kills with a sword

Reward: PvP: Infinite Light

Numbers and example are clearly thrown around, but that’s the idea I woud like the most.

TL;DR: I want to be rewarded for my skill, not for my time-grinding ranks

New maps/game modes seems to me something that would come out from: "The Art of Combat ".

Aliie already said they would be showcasing a new map tomorrow, on Ready Up: “a map with no capture points”

Since it is now confirmed the feature patch is coming April, 15, why did you remove the Glory already?

Glory removed March 18 in preparation for a patch that comes out April 15

It literally makes no sense to me that you removed it so early!
