Take up space, throw heals and support spells…and get loot like everyone else?

Man..talk about deja’ vu. For a second there I though I was playing a Mystic in an EQ2 raid.

I’d like to see that option also. Sometimes, I just don’t want to talk to anyone. Outside of being outright rude to a guildie(which I won’t do) , there is no way to avoid anyone when signing in.

Now thats a heck of question. I’m not sure if I can answer it. I like both for different reasons. The rebel in me loves Hoelbrak for the open frontier feeling. But the complexity of Divinity’s Reach is pretty compelling also.

I really can’t say….especially since my entire repertoire of toons are either human or Norn.

What I am sad about is that nothings asks you to travel a long way away (ignoring personal story). WoW did lead you around, but it gave you a reason to travel to places. GW2 lets you be free but it makes me feel like I’m someone without any real purpose in life. I randomly wonder the world and solve peoples problems.

I’m not sure about you but I rarely randomly travel somewhere I haven’t been in real life unless I know it may be interesting for some reason. In this I follow the shinnies.

You should get out more…hit the country roads and just drive. See what you can find. I can quest on any game out there.

Here, I can step into the heart of Tyria and start traveling…and things start happening. Players need help, npc’s have problems…do I go…do I stay….every decision leads to a new unknown. I’m really enjoying the playstyle.

As things stand now…anyone, regardless of level, experience or gear can join any group or DE (outside of dungeon instances)…no questions asked.

When you start letting someone else make the call on group make-up using whatever determining factors they’ve come up with…then you’re a raid and group dynamic becomes exclusive rather than inclusive.

This mindset is what so many of us can’t stand. And, as I understand it…what ANet is striving to get away from.

If they go the route of player housing, I hope they emulate EQ2’s style. No other game allows the player to manipulate their personal spaces like EQ2. Some of the housing in that game is just stunning.

In the Charr area, we (guildies) were helping a member on his personal story and there was an NPC Charr running with us by the name of Dinky whose running dialogue was keeping all of us cracking up.

Dinky – “Once…I swallowed a thumbtack”…..long pause, then guttural deep charr voice….“I think its still there”

I just want to see ootles of professions (classes) like GW1. If they make new profs anywhere as fun as the current, that is the best content for me.

I hope they don’t get cold feet because of how much work class balancing is.

The level of censorship and mandatory “play nice” rules are a little concerning in this game. Granted, I came from League of Legends (one of the more toxic communities), I have some serious concerns about the amount of infractions and deleted posts I come across. I don’t believe in ‘faking’ a positive community by deleting everything that’s negative.

I think it’s the attitude and intention behind the remark that matters. In map chat I’ve called people kittens, kittens, kittens, piece of kitten, mother kitten, and dumb kitten. But I never say it with any malice, always poking fun and playing around.

Unfortunately, its difficult to read intent in text. What meant as playful to you is / can be interpreted completely differently by another depneding on their current mood or even surroundings.

If someone is taking it wrong…maybe just adding “Hey (insert name)…just kidding” will defuse the situation.

Time will tell to see how the game will do. As a Buy to Play model, I see this game doing well and growing in the future. It will likely experience hot and cold periods where people will flip flop between GW2 and a 2nd MMO that has a more “traditional” level cap scene. However I really don’t think that this will be a major obstacle for GW2.

Perhaps it will grow in content, but I doubt it will grow in player base. Not having a subscription fee and without population data from ArenaNet, it’s difficult to see if people in game are logging less. With the first paid expansion we will see the real population, I think will be a lot lower than the number of buyers of the game…

In all games, there is always a large initial surge followed by a gradual evening out of population. In subscription type game, this can be disastrous if its too steep. Re: TERA..for instance

B2P is a whole different animal. Everyone playing ponied up the entry fee. The game is set up in such a way as optional purchases for cash are available via the trader…but they are not really necessary to go forward in the game.

Seriously though. They aren’t needed. Withe portals and the run speed buff available on each class….we move around quick enough.

Only a GM or Dev can make the call as to whether its bannable. Report them if you think it deserves their intervention, the’ll scan the chatlogs and amake thier decision.

In the meantime, just block em’ and forget about it.

Whatever problems you are having still beats some of the alternatives offerred in other games.

I have enough goals in life and work.

In this game?…the only goal I have is to chill and goof off in game. Whether that is participating in a DE zerg, soloing around, crafting, exploring, chatting in guildies and/or just getting lost in Tyria and not worrying about anything.

They might be a bit outsized in some cases here. But nothing compared to the giant weapons of TERA. These weapons are breath of fresh air compared to those monstrosities.

Not me. I look forward to the times when I can log in and play. I surf the forums here at work. If nothing else, the forums illustrate how differently so many of us see this game. Or perhaps its just gaming in general.

In any case, I’m still enjoying the game with 5 alts & 5 crafting skills off and running. 3 more alts to follow for a full house of classes eventually.

I play 5 classes…Ranger, Guardian, Engineer, Warrior and Thief. I have fun with all of them. I’ve rolled and deleted the casters…but thats mostly because I prefer melee / ranged to magic users in all games. I’ll probably get around to re-rolling them though when I get around to buying some more slots.

That said…I don’t think any of the classes are “broken”. They just all have advantages and disadvantages when compared to each other.

And I don’t compare any of these classes to the various classes I’ve played in other games…cause this is GW2..NOT those other games. I honestly, do not want class balance. Each class shines differently…its up to us as players to maximise those abilities as we learn the class.

I play a guardian too, Doc. I know what you;re talking about. But its just a game I play for fun and if I’m not getting good enough gear on him, then I’ll play my Thief for awhile or my Ranger. Until…someone says…“Uh, could you bring your guard back, we really miss him, lol”

RP in and of itself does not enhance a server. What enhances the community of those servers is the participants of the RP community. RP’ers tend to be cheerful, polite, thoughful and generally more mature. Most, not all mind you…are welcoming of new people trying RP or wanting to join their guilds.

And, un-official RP designated server or not…RP’ers are still small % of any server compared to the entire server population. That said..you can always count on them to make your server interesting with (once it really gets going ) with RP festivals, fairs, ect..

I’m not a RP’er…but I like what they bring to any server. TC is no exception.

So what I keep hearing is….." I want to play a healer / support class just like I always have in (insert MMO here) in spite of the the game mechanics in GW2 and ANet should do something about it."

Sorry, this isn’t (insert MMO here)…its GW2 and everyone has to fight AND support/heal.

Put about 10 points into the pet line and you’ll have an able ally to fight with. Rangers are great to solo with, just don’t stand in one place and shoot your bow if you’re taking dmg….keep moving, swap pets as needed and weapon sets….

Active pet mgmt helps too… Watch its health bar and recall if needed to mend, then send it out again.

i guess it makes sense to fight mobs 4 levels higher (ive tried mobs 3 levels higher with zero issues), but this doesnt really feel like natural progression. i feel if im lvl 40 in a 40-50 zone, i’ll be doing the lvl 40-41 quests for sake of completion/story. why am i allowed to faceroll through those?

There is no way for ANet to judge the abilities of any given player. Their age, infirmities etc… so, IMO, most MMO’s seem to alway be the easiest playing at con.

What you are steamrolling through might be a real challenge for a 9 yr old. But that youngster is as much a paying customer as the rest of us are. Except, as adults, we can adjust our own gameplay to the level of challenge we desire.

Might need to search for higher level mobs. I typically look for mobs 2-4 levels higher on my Ranger, Guard and Warrior. Not so much on thief…but thats probably just me learning how to use the sneaky lil class.

Easy for you…I usually die, lol. But, RP’ers are pretty good about rezzing…. and community. The latter being the main reason we always roll new guilds on RP servers. Even if we’re not technically Roleplayers.

I only play humans and norns. Play what you like. I tried the other races and didn’t like any of them either, for what its worth.

Ranger for survivability and solo’ing. Ultimate ranged class. I use shortbow / greatsword for about 90% of everything. Keep a longbow handy and dual axes within reach.

Pets are great too….put some points in them though or they’ll die everytime you engage.

Tailors….some of the stuff my wife has her Ele wearing is pretty cool. But only available casters, it seems. Still working on my leathersmith and armorsmith…but at the rate I play…gonna be awhile.

All female, though I was tempted to go male with my Charr. I have rolled male characters in other games, but found I didn’t play them as much. Being female, I guess I just had difficulty relating to them.

P.S. I don’t think owning power tools is necessarily gender related. I own a full set of pneumatic tools, chop saw, chain saw, etc.
