Hope you figure it out then, Hobbes. But I bet you switched to another set of lower level tools by accident.
Course, there is no way you’d admit that here….now.

They are all “toons”. As animated characters, they are “cartoons”….hence “toons”…
That said, cartoons may pre-date you. But you get the drift.
Never played an MMO that didn’t call them that.

You need to buy the next set of tools, Hobbes. Or the tool set for the level you are in…..i.e., the Ori set.

Actually this weekend was the first time I ever played for any length of time. Sure, a lot of its kinda zergy. But that doesn’t mean its not fun.
Its even more fun if you are with your guild group on a voice server of some sort. We laughed and played it most of the day Saturday.
Prior to Saturday though, I’ve been just too busy exploring the all the professions and various maps.

Yes but that removes the jump right in and do a DE, or such, with other players which ANet greatly advertised. I have great trust in ANet and would hope that they can have a fix for this issue. It would be much better if they found a way than all of just left to “deal with it”.
ANet can’t make players be where “you” are. At some point, you have to take some responsibility for setting up the circumstances for your own enjoyment. Either find some friends, join a guild, change servers, move to an area more populated…whatever.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Are none of you guys in a Guild? That you can’t use guildies to put a group together? Server Populations shouldn’t even matter if you’ve got a solid guild behind you. It might take you awhile to find just that right guild…but its well worth the time.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Do you become your character or do you move the chess piece?
This is it in a nutshell.
People who play 1rst person just don’t get that a lot of us play in 3rd person.
I like my gal toons. But they ain’t me. They are cartoons in a video game.

For those of you who were complaining about lack of manly faces for male humans, I have contracted my wife — who, I have on good authority, likes roosters a lot — to construct me The Manliest Man that can be made in Guild Wars 2. She has been giggling for 20 minutes now.
Being a student of history, she wanted to name him Marcus Manlius, but it was reserved. And Gaius Manlius was in use. The GW1 community rocked, apparently. In the end, we went against history and named him Manlius Manlius, which is at least twice as manly as those other Manlii.
Menfolk! Cover your eyes, lest you be smitten with confusing feelings! I give you your new emperor of masculinity:
Begone…Oh ye of the sense of humor…this is a place for serious discussion (unfortunately)

Stand outside the doors of any dungeon on the map and there are lots of people looking for a group. Or…maybe I should say, there are lots of people standing around twiddling their cartoon thumbs waiting for someone else to invite them to a group.
What is the problem here? Mostly that someone has to make the first move. Speak up, start a group…someone.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Here we go again. What…this is the 3rd of 4th thread by someone lamenting the fact that guys play female toons. Its just game. Lighten up.
3 guys / 5 gals here.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
On my Necros, I use axe/focus and switch between that and scepter/warhorn. With deathshroud about the only thing that can kill me is mobs of 5 or more. Anything under 5 though..even mobs a couple of levels above me are pretty much toast.
I do spec 10 in toughness / 10 in vitality and wear resilient gear, however.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I have one of each class and the 2 I keep going back to more regularly is my engineer and my mesmer. I do play all of them though…but lately those are my 2 favorites.
Especially my Greatsword mesmer. I switch the Mesmer to dual swords occasionally. Mostly because I just like the idea and look of it. Its not a particularly effective weapon duo, but its just fun.
Get enough phantasms out there and you got bleedin army on your side. Only level 20 presently.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon

I know, but I just don’t like em’ following me around. You can get along just fine without them too.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I don’t use them anyway…can’t stand that mob of critters following me around, getting in the way.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Solution: re-roll to an Elementalist. You will be constantly cycling through your 20 weapon abilities in combo with your 5 utilities.
Of course, there is that little rarely mentioned thing about ele’s where you have to open up weapon sets 4 times each. Once for each element, lol.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I agree with totally with Vince. Nothing anyone paid for any game should give them the right to be such complete kittenholes on any gaming forum. Some games just seem to put up with it.
Looks like, to me, that ANet has gotten tired of it too. The forums are pretty heavily moderated now and I, for one, welcome the change.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Not me….I hated the clutter of 30-40 keys all over the place. This is refreshing. Try an ele or engie if you need more options to push though.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Then play a healer.
Re-spec that Guardian or Engineer…the 2 best classes, I think for making a healer / support class. It will have to be a hybrid though since both classes are pretty heavy on boons and debuffs.
I use my Engineer for this purpose…switching between med packs and an elixir gun. Quite fun actually…trying to shoehorn a GW2 class into healer mode.
I’ve always played healers too, but that doesn’t mean I want this game to change to that mode of play.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
You can do everything you wrote with any number of trios without changing a thing gamewise. Just respec the members of the trio the way you want.
Why ask ANet to change the very tenet that is so specific to their vision of GW2?
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I have one level 80 and 7 alts ranging from level 15 to level 50. It seems to be hit or miss on TC for finding lots of people. I only play Humans and Norns, so those are the starting areas I play in.
I don’t really mind there not being anyone around though as I usually solo anyway.
I do think its unrealistic to expect the kind of crowds that we had when the game rolled out. We all had to start somewhere….people just spread out from there leveling at different rates.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Put another way.
Op wants ANet to provide a carrot.
ANet wants us to find our own carrot
I’m having no problems locating my own carrots.

I only farm the Shelter / Penitent area for a bit on Saturday mornings. Make 3 or 4 gold to keep my other 7 freeloading alts in new gear and/or mats for another week or so
Much more than that and your brain begins to turn into mush.

Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
these so called “friends” aren’t playing in the same server as you?…
doesn’t make any sense.
I made several new friends in the betas on now non-existent servers. Moledune server comes to mind right now. We all ended up on different servers for a variety of reasons. We still chat occasionally if not actually play together. Everyone was looking forward to the guesting option.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Guesting, when its up and going, won’t have any effect on WvW….as you can’t compete on another servers WvW match as a guest.
At least that was how it was supposed to have worked in the beginning.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I don’t use minions anyway. Having all those critters following me around just bugs me. My rangers one pet is enough and even those get in the way
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon

At level 43, you’ll just die over and over in Sparkfly Fen. I had some guildies escort me down there at level 60-ish so I could take part in the dragon & krait fights…most of my weapons just glanced off until level 65-ish or so.
Got very little loot or xp. But at least I got the waypoints to go back there once I had leveled a bit.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I like the Longcoats personally. But some of the crafted stuff is pretty cool as well as karma armor…though its a style of longcoat also.

@Bruno Sardine
“….Sort of a gross oversimplification of dungeon’s in other MMOs…”
Yep, it is.
Because, in the end, no matter how you want to dress it up. It amounts to some poor boob (I include myself here also) sitting in front of a keyboard / monitor spamming keys until the mob is dead. You can say…“Oh, but this game makes us move here first”…or that game makes us “jump through this hoop first” and its all still the same thing.
No one can define “difficulty” or “fun” because its different for all of us. Just choose to play the game that fits your definition the best.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Most other MMO’s in a dungeon….Tank stands in one place & takes agro, healers stand in one place and heal the tank and you…maybe. Everyone else stands in one place spams dps until mob is down.
GW2….EVERYONE hops around like deranged bunnies, spamming dps, boons, conditions & heals until mob is down.
I prefer the latter style of game combat. But thats just me. <<hop-hop>>
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I usually block the “screaming” LFG spammers. Would never invite someone with that kind of attitude to one of our groups. It just screams immaturity.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Run, run, run…thats what I do mostly. WP costs are pretty reasonable for all of my 8 alts.
As far as training mobs. If you are using ANY kind of runspeed buffs, the mobs will give up. If you aren’t, however, the mobs will follow you for quite awhile…hence the training of the mobs. If someone has a ton of mobs behind them, they are likely doing it on purpose.

Even at level 80, I rarely portal unless I’m after something specific. Mostly I just run….fast w/ buffs, I grant you…but mostly run. Portal costs aren’t really bothering my bank for my 8 alts.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I like the GS on my ranger, guardian and my mesmer. Warrior….not so much. On that one I run with dual axes or axe / shield depending on mobs.

“…Couldn’t you just stay in a 1-15 zone all game? If you want to get to 80 without dying I hate to say it but you’re probably best off just running gathering laps around Queensdale….”
That would be one way, I suppose. Bu the challenge of permadeath is to complete most content without dying. It takes honesty and integrity on the part of the participants in a Guild setting. And even on personal setting where you are challenging yourself.
I wouldn’t mind giving it another whirl. What server are you on Storm?
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
The questions should be how many people that answered here even reached 80 lvl. This game is not an MMO but a single player experience. Beside a good story and interesting leveling this game has nothing to offer. SPVP that i cannot play with a friend because we occasionally get in different teams. WVW where all your efforts go to waste with night-cappers. And dungeons that are useless because a full exotic set costs ~27g that you can get in a weak time. Good single-player game kitteny mmo. 23 years old.
Pfft…I’ve got 2 toons at 80 and 6 more alts in levels ranging from 10-70. The game is what you make of it. As is any game. This must not be the game for you….cool…it doesn’t have to be.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
Server Transfers are still free, for now. Pop over and check it out. Its a good server though.
Raf Longshanks-80 Norn Guardian / 9 more alts of various lvls / Charter Member Altaholics Anon
I don’t see why you couldn’t play that way though. The downed state does allow you to Rally. True death is when it gives you the option to portal somewhere.
If I were to play a permadeath toon here though, it would be a ranger specced for toughness and Vitality. With axes & warhorn and Longbow. Fight from a distance, run if necessary. Never close for melee.
Sort of assassin mode. Pick your fights, ambush…no more than 2 × 1...but keep it 1 × 1 as much as possible. Use your pet effectively. Scout the area ahead of you…move carefully etc…etc..

I played in a Permadeath Guild in EQ2 for several months. If you are ever looking for more challenge in any game, try that for awhile. If you die in game, delete the toon and start over. No rezzing allowed.
It finally folded. Mostly because all of us just got tired of re-rolling toon after toon. No matter how good you think you are…you will die eventually. No biggie to lose a young toon…much harder to lose level 50’s and above.
