Is the hand that moves the chess piece a male hand or female hand? Why does it even matter?

Norns and humans only. 2 male, 3 female. Don’t care for non-human characters in any game. Though, I suppose, technically…Norns are not human. Still with them its just a matter of scale.

Sometimes, you just get tired of watching the back end of male toons…or maybe you don’t. Hey, whatever melts yer butter.

I’m still a healer at heart ….can’t stop watching others health bars, lol…even though that has changed here. So I still go for heals that can benefit my group or just folks around me.

He’s level 20 for pete sake. Its not like there so much time invested that he can’t try something else. I’ve got 5 classes running concurrently and have deleted a mesmer, necro and ele. (guess I just don’t care for casters)…and I really only play on weekends..maybe an hour in the evenings.

Steve…man…just try something else if you aren’t satisfied with your Engie. You have 4 more slots. Leave the engie where its at and try a warrior or ranger for awhile.

The internet is rude place. People don’t have to look anyone in the eye when spouting off, so its like manners simply go out the window.

I hope ANet can read though the bullkitten and not be affected by the the negativity rampant in all gaming forums in any game.

Ranger…..by far. Use a shortbow for melee and ranged. Though, you can switch greatsword if you get too close. Invest a few points in your pet and use him to tank sometimes. My favorite solo class.

Define fun.

You simply can’t do it for anyone other than yourself. Some peeps find it by rushing to cap. Others find it in a slow progress of multiple alts, crafting and exploring. Or RP with all of the above thrown in for good measure.

Thats why you have to take all these posts with a grain of salt. Which is, I hope, what ANet is doing and not letting the rampant negativity of some people affect their decisions.

GW2 was not conceived as another mainstream MMO. Nor implemented as such. And all the same posters that have been screaming for something different all these years have found out that they really don’t like anything different afterall.

I disagree FarfarAway. There are several games out there that have been going on for years regardless of the negativity spewed in their forums. WoW, EQ & EQ2 come to mind. All those game are the old style raid / gear progression games though.

Time will tell here, but I think Anet rolled a winner with staying power. But just a style of game that will never appeal to everyone. Not unlike GW1 as far as that goes.

Cuss a blue streak where you live…who cares. But why do you feel the need to type it out in a public chat? Its pretty childish actually.

Good for Anet for actively enforcing the language rules.

Its an unfortunate occurrence in all forums in all games where the naysayers dominate the conversation, while those people that like the game rarely post or even bother with forums.

Which gives the illusion that “everyone” is horribly dissatisfied with the game. When its really a pretty small percentile.

I’m currently playing:

Ranger / level 46
Warrior / level 25
Thief / level 16
Guardian / level 21
Mesmer / deleted a level 10 this morning, replaced it with an Engineer, now level 2

I need a couple more toon slots for my necro and ele. But haven’t gotten around to that yet. I enjoy all the classes so far, except for mesmer. Tried to like that one, but I’ve never been much of a caster player. Which is prob wht I haven’t rolled the necro or ele yet.

I really like the Thief though. Even though, of all my current classes..its the one I’m least proficient at. Its just a fun class to play.

I’m always broke. Altaholic with 5 toons and 3 craft skills going. Prob don’t have a gold between all of them. Break everything down to feed the crafting maw.

But…so what? I could, I suppose, buy gems and convert them to gold like some. But why? I’ll max out crafting, level all my toons , create and delete new toons eventually. And somewhere along the way, maybe I’ll make a little coin…or not.

If its too hard, then level up a bit and go back. Or find some friends. I don’t think it was ever meant to be a snoozefest.

Hounds are pretty awesome for solo’ers. Saving up points for them on 3 toons right now.

Pronounced “kway” where I come from. Start spouting off the “key” pronunciation around here and people are not going to understand you. Language…any language is highly regional and subject to interpretation.

Find a guild that has a voice server. Nothing brings people together more than actually being able to talk, joke around and communicate in a group.

Unfortunately, some people only listen…and a lot of old timers just simply refuse to use voice. I use the term “old timers” in a gaming sense rather than and “age” sense.

Also…some guildwide chat updates would go a long way to fostering more closeness. Something that tells all of us when someone levels or clears a map…or even signs into guild? Just to be able to say gratz or hello…though this is something that Anet would need to address.

I like it too. It can be downright hilarious in places.

As far as censorship goes? Filters like this are in place because some people mistakenly assume that filthy language in mixed company makes them adults.

I understand that one shot kills can be annoying. But why is the boss killing you in one shot? Are you spec’d for dps only? How many points do you have in Vitality and Toughness….or are you just unlucky?

This game gives peeps a surprising amount of flexibility…along with a good dose of responsibility. So if you are dying in one shot…they first thing to do is ask..why?

No…apparently being concerned about something you have absolutely no control over other than endless whining is the in thing.

If you play the game, harvest for mats and take care of your own business, bots have no meaning outside of personal annoyance to some. They are Anets problem…not mine.

Now this is odd.

I play a sword/pistol Mesmer, and I do exceptional in melee range.
I fight elite lair bosses (spiked purple portrait rings) in melee range.

You ask how I do that Ina light armor class?

I am speccd for vigor, I disable and blind the targets, I use blurred frenzy and distortion.

No one is expected to face tank in this game. I have tanked for many groups on my light armor Mesmer, because I use the entire arsenal of abilities giving to my class.

Yes, sometimes I have to fall back to ranged in order to give me time to refresh my Cooldown cycle but I spend the majority of time in melee.

Honestly maybe the game isn’t the problem, maybe its the players perception.

100 times this. I play a mesmer as well, Greatsword and Sword/Sword. In melee range I have distortion effects, blocks, dodge rolls, and even feedback for ranged enemies to mitigate damage.

The key to playing this game right is to 1: own a melee AND a ranged weapon. and 2: Learn when to melee and when to range. You have the ability to swap weapons. Why the hell aren’t you utilizing it? If you’re fighting a big boss with tons of melee damage, wait for an opening whilst shooting him with whatever ranged weapon you have, leap in with your melee weapon, do some great melee damage, and then gtfo and continue using your ranged weapon.

TL;DR – Learn to swap weapons as necessary and things will become much easier, I promise.

I agree, but some people just don’t get it. In all other games, melee classes…well…melee….stand flatfooted, swing a weapon ( you smash buttons) , let your healer make up for your mistakes.

I love the concept of the warrior class here. Not some infantryman, but a well rounded “warrior” who can as easily switch from ranged to blades and back again as the situation demands.

Melee all you want, but if you are losing health..switch back to ranged and fade back until, firing all the time, as health builds up, then leap back into the fray.

Why is this so hard get around?

Isn’t that the way it is in any game though? In any forum , on any game…its always the same.

I have a Warrior and Thief. I use ranged to start a fight and blades to finish it. Without fail. To do anything else is waste of good dps without consequences. All weapons have their purpose.

Hobby…definitely. Work full time, married etc, etc. Have 5 toons ranging from lvl 10 to level 45. 3 crafters each around level 100 or so. I can see myself playing this game for at least a couple of years.

Also…if you play/played WoW for 16 hrs a day? You’re addicted…big time. And you are just fooling yourself if you are telling yourself otherwise.

EQ2 for the last few years, but dropped my sub there for now. Playing here, I have no desire to head back to EQ2 at this time.

Open PvP community? Check out TERA for what that play style does to a community. I sincerely hope they never go that route here.

Leatherworker can make some pretty cool stuff, too. I like trench coats, so again…it comes back to a matter of personal taste

Yes..but for those who are missing the Trinity, there are numerous games to cater to that style of play. Why do you keep insisting that this game institute changes that will make it like very other game out there?

I hope Anet stays with their vision and ignores those who are calling for a return to the Trinity play style.

So, you are thrown into a set storyline? Knowing full well that given the number of players in this game compared to the number of available story combinations…that it will be as cookie cutter as possible. Because it has to to be…realistically.

Anet was probably counting on you to fill in the holes. Its not their fault you seem to lack imagination.

Its a video game geared to serve as many people as possible. What seems neutral and unimaginative to you may seem heroic to some other percentage of the other estimated 1,999,999 people that purchased the game.

But we all have to make the best of the personal storyline. Because there is no way for Anet to customize the dialogue to fit “everyones” expectations.

If you are dying in your storyline, its time to put it away for awhile and go catch a few levels before trying again. That or get some help from freinds or guildies.

What totem did you choose? Could apply that to something like"Wolfson…Wolfsdottir"…“Ravenspawn…Ravenson”…..with some sort of Norse surname?

Naaah…its the same in every forum on any game you’ve ever played or not played.

Forums are where the malcontents and fans of the game gather. Everyone else is too busy playing to be bothered with this stuff.

You don’t need to spend a dime to craft. You need to just take your time and play the game. I get the sense from these guys that what they are griping about is that they can’t level up immediately. So therefore they are crafting junk.

I know my main won’t be able to take advantage of his leatherwork, but my alts will and in the meantime my main is filling the tiers above the alts for when they get there. And they are filling the tiers for the stuff they’ll need.

Everyone plays this game differently, but its like the crafting was set up for people taking the long view.

And that may be the problem for those that think crafting isn’t working.

I’m leveling an armorsmith, weaponsmith and leathersmith at the same time. All 3 are up to 125-ish or so as I only play part time. And all of them use jute. Its tough to keep them supplied, but certainly doable. Break everything down and make an alt to harvest the low level areas.

Its going to take some time to level them all up. But so what? Game is still new outa the box.

I’ve got both…but they both use a lot of the same mats. So you’re always short of something. I spend a lot of my game time harvesting.

Drunken….go do the “Bear Acolytes” DE in Nornia for claws. Then you can hop down to the river right by there and swim through it to the underwater cavern for skates for thin blood and small scales.

I like that the act of crafting is nearly instant. its refreshing change. Harvesting the right mats is a real challenge if you don’t use the broker.

I’ve got several maxed crafters on EQ2…and EQ2 crafting is an absolute mind numbing snore. I hated the act of crafting there, even though I maxed several of them to feed the armor, weapons & potion needs of all my alts

Just report them and go on with your day. /shrug

There was literally reams of info about this game prior to launch. Videos, reviews..you name it. Its really hard to imagine why you even thought this might be the type of game for you?

The Holy Trinity is alive an well on almost every MMO in existence and people still gather here to gripe about the lack of it in this game?

I hope like hell that ANet stands by their guns and their original vision for this game and never, ever institutes the Trinity here.

The zergs will ease up. Populations are still high right now. It will settle down eventually…especially when the next big name game comes out and the content locusts swarm to a new destination.

We must hang around in different areas Jaeyne. I’ve never been approached for RP..not even once..and I’d probably would have joined in, lol. Even though I find it going on around me pretty often.

I always quest higher than my level. Usually 3-4 levels above. XP is better and tactics are required and its a challenge to go 1v1 and live. If the game is too easy for you…step up your personal game.

My warrior does the bridge DE at level 18…though that requires pretty much total ranged attacks. At that level in that DE, to melee is to die immediately.

off-topic. this thread is about DE’s. even if youre level 18 doing a lvl 22 DE, the zerg will allow u to faceroll through it.

the suggestion u and the above dev give applies to hearts and personal story. not to DE’s.

That assuming there was enough players to constitute a zerg…which there hasn’t been lately. Its been quite a challenge to stay alive and fight through the DE at that level.

My level 47 main is having to do with drops and karma vendors too.

But I’m leveling up an armorsmith, leathersmith and weaponsmith and keeping them current with the level of my all my alts for the future. I’ve got more save karma points on each alt than I do my main, lol.
