Crinn summed it up best. Double the bleed duration, so for things like Pve, geomancy will always be better since you don’t need the covering condition there.

Covering conditions is so gw1. If you got your condition covered that someone’s triple cleanse didn’t somehow remove, you got lucky.

The problem isn’t that they don’t understand player motivations. This forum is full of opinions on what drives player motivations. What anet is charged with is playing a balancing act with all these opinions and sorting out which opinions don’t work.

By player motivations I don’t mean what specific to this game the player base desires, I’m talking about the progression in the pvp scene; why you’d such around to play it.

In most comprehensive gaming people want the game to be fun and that their efforts and choices are impactful. The fun part is debatable but i can’t agree the meta or the lack of changes in meta is fun.

The second bit, well, spvp is some of the most coin flippiest competitive gaming around. The game’s everyone can do everything gameplay eschews some of the basic principles that makes team games fun. There’s no dedicated roles, no explicit formation.

This leads to a difficulty in forcing specific encounters in a match and you’re left with a visual mess that feels completely random. Which goes back to the first point, it’s not fun.

It’s hilarious seeing people blame “casuals” for pvp being ruined. “Casuals” are just here for the loot. Can you blame them? That’s all we ever offered them. They’re here because of rewards and dailies, that’s it. They’re not ruining pvp.

If anything killed pvp, it’s the “hardcores” and tryhards in these forums that tried to push this “competitive” scene down everyones’ throats. They’re still doing it. Even as esports has kicked the bucket. Instead of “How can we make this game more fun to play?” it’s “How can we make this game more competitive?”

No where have I said this game needed to be more competitive to retain players. It needs to be more fun. I’ve addressed the issue of the high barrier of entry many times before. There simply isn’t enough of the necessary tools available to make a new player feel welcome, that preceeds any sort of toxic behavior.

Any experienced player will have a limit of tolerance to being matched up with a total beginner over and over again and losing. Its not the newbie’s fault but it doesn’t help arenanet doesnt do anything about it.

Yes, but if you read my original post, I’m saying the drop rate is completely terrible, yet they have no issue retaining players. All the while GW2 is increasing the AT rewards. The rewards are not the problem.

dota 2 has all free content, has rewards for playing (you clearly havnt played dota), and spends millions of dollars on events and tournies.

Not only do they give rewards, but they can sell the rewards for real world cash. What are you smoking?

Have you seen the drop rate after the community market patch? its dismal. You can easily go 10 games without getting a common item drop.

i might not be a great player (not that the rewards are based on performance) but you can hardly say i don’t play.

Why can a game like Dota 2 offer no guaranteed rewards for winning matches, still retain a higher playerbase than GW2’s pvp mode?

That’s right, you can easily play 10 games, taking 6-10 hours, and receive no material rewards for your game account.

Are rewards really the problem for GW2’s pvp? Food for thought.

Agreed. Mid node should be smaller in size with obstructions along the outside so it can remain defensible without simply being a kiting arena

Not option, it needs to be standard on death. There’s no point watching your corpse for 15 seconds over sad music, they should be staring at the mini, and team health bars to plan their respawn.

I hate how inconsistent the minimap sizes are as well. Spirit watch’s mini doesn’t seem to be able to cover the whole match, and i think on foefire you can’t zoom.

For all the praise the art team gets, when it comes to functionality Arenanet does a terrible job of their UI.

It is so uninformative. Player icons are too big, they easily overlap each other, and since this game revolves around doing the macarena on circles and squares, you often can’t tell how big a pileup at a point is.

In a game where you are not given any sort of pre-recorded team messaging, and +1s make all the difference in a team fight, this stuff needs to be improved.

Players should be shown a larger version of the minimap while they are waiting to respawn, because staring at their dead bodies while the camera is rotating doesn’t help. This way, when they do respawn, they have a better understanding of where to go, instead of lemminging their way to middle to suicide one by one.

I have people double capping points, eles trying to farm beasts instead of helping teammates, 4 people chasing 1 guy on the beach etc. but somehow it is always my fault or rather the fact that i use refuge that we lose… because clearly one spell defines outcome of entire game – and i am in plat 3 -_-’. It never gets better.

why not have the players make a tutorial on conquest maps then? Not saying anet shouldnt but for 1 players are more knowledgable on this gamemmode since they play it alot more.

By tutorial I mean game based infrastructure that informs the players, not just guides players make. There are plenty of them but their coverage isn’t great because its not official.

You need kitten like training wheels to warn people that fighting 5 minutes on an enemy cap and not disengaging is bad. And more importantly, better minimap. our current minimap is kittenttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

gold + should nevre need a tutorial …. Even silver should know what to do ….
But also had this in gold. A player mostly sat on home. But fortunately this i rare in EU.
Whats common is that the skill diffrence is large. Often too large.

But you’re proving my point, if people in gold still make those mistakes then they do still need tutorials and guides. The colour of the rank didn’t mean much if they are still terrible. It’s very easy to get carried to hold while still knowing nothing at all.

The Revenant is an incomplete profession. It was supposed to be what was the Engineer to medium armor or the Ele to light armor. A profession that didn’t use weapon swap, this is why you have only the spear for underwater. They apparently couldn’t build a comprehensive skill list and shortcut the weapon swap to make up the difference. It’s what The Crystal Skull is to Indiana Jones.

The end of game should be a quick montage of each of your winning team members doing a skill with their equipped weapon to slay the enemy team. All scripted of course, briefly, about 1.5 seconds each. Slight slow motion. Kinda like Tekken 7’s new feature:

Example: A hammer warrior will do hammer5 on the enemy, at a particular close up angle, then it will cut to the next player on the winning team, say, a necro finishing off an enemy with gravedigger at a different camera angle.

Anyone without a weapon equipped (and somehow managed to win) will do a stomp finisher.

It’s a good change and shortbow is still worth it. They are doing it pvp only do that they don’t have to test it on ove and delay the update which is the best thing about this update overall, an indication the pvp team is breaking away from the pve team
