On khylo I often forget where is home/far and try to “decap” my own home point…
Oh Eyia does that all the time on every single map and then tries to convince us that she’s not drunk.

Of course you won’t learn everything you need to learn for PvP in PvE, but you will learn the rock bottom basic mechanics of the game and your class in an easy and safe environment without having to worry about team-mates.
Diving straight into PvP after buying the game is just a recipe for disaster, especially when you consider how different GW2 is from every other MMO.

sometimes i play ranked pvp games with my dungeon master title on to pretend im a superduper dungeon master
some ppl (in general thieves) get rly mad about it, that they lost to a dungeon master ^^
The best title is combat healer

You’re both wrong – PvE is for new people.

This has only started happening in the last hour, but I currently can’t do anything in game. I have checked my internet connection and there is absolutely no issue with it.
I am able to load a character, but after logging in I cannot do anything except run around. I was even able to jump off the edge of Heart of the Mists and swim far away from the island before the game disconnected.
UPDATE: After several instances of this, I am now stuck on the game launcher and unable to log in at all.

That won’t happen in reality though due to your team decreasing in mmr and the opposite team increasing. In this case, higher mmr players in the opposite team would swap with players in your team (if the system works).
Welp, I had once three games in a row against same pre-made, whle being solo. I lost in two of those and STILL got them again on the third game.
So this whole mmr thing is really shady atm. And the low amount of actual players make matters worse.
Well after 3 games the MMR difference isn’t going to be anything compared to 20 games.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Well there is always the possibility of someone being carried hard by their usual premade team, then going into soloq with an abnormally high rating.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
You guys are discounting the possibility that he and the same people are playing the same team over and over in a low population time of day.
The result won’t change.

Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
I was merely using this example to show that it’s just as valid to say you won because the other team played badly as it is to say because your team played well. Especially if this doesn’t happen most of the games.
And avoiding the treb isn’t restricted to the best players, most people in the teams I’m in and against are competent enough to work around the treb.

The point you totally dismiss is the winning chance..
If you got a 95% to win a game and land a flawless victory, why should you get +3?
They never had a chance. Just imagine you are playing against 5 newbees. It is not that hard to smash them.
Actually, the only possibility to gain +3 is if YOUR win chance is under 20%.
https://www.guildwars2.com/de/news/finding-the-perfect-match/ < look at this page. The problem is the amount of players. There are not enough at the same time with the same MMR – so the chances will vary and lead to blowouts. And i dont think blowouts are fun for any side of the team..
Lemme counter you claim,
Both teams ARE solo que’s.Do you think its good practice for the developers to make matchmaking full of 10 random players and completely 1 side it so one side has 95% chance to win?
Its not like I’m Abjured going against a bunch of solo ques. I can understand a 95% win rate from that, but all 10 solo que’ers and matchmaking makes it so a team has 95% win rate, is that acceptable?
Is that the case in my game? Nope I just consider I had one guy really good at going far and due to his success and my success trebbing we flawlessly won the game, and I should be awarded +3 points from that.
You need to look at both sides of the argument:
Should you be awarded +3 for the enemy players’ inability to dodge the trebuchet and hold their ground at the home point? Trebs are only used <5% of the match in high tier games because it’s so easy to dodge and even if they don’t, you’ll only hit 1 person due to good player positioning.
Yes this is an exaggeration, but you get my point.

We can block ‘noobs’ from unranked right after we block anyone over rank 20 from joining practice mode.
And what happems when a rank 21 wants to learn a new class in pvp?
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
You know you can move by holding down both mouse buttons? I do this while using my other hand to cram stuff in my mouth.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Another confession – when I’m bored and none of my contacts are online, I sometimes troll ranked arenas with turret engi and focus on killing other turret engis with my own turret engi, which I pretty much always succeed in doing since most turret engis can’t dodge.

Also, one time I took a portal back to the trebuchet, pressed F to use the trebuchet but used the portal again instead, the portal then disappeared and I had to run to the trebuchet just to find that someone had respawned and taken it.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Why don’t you play in ranked instead of unranked, then?
As he’ll encounter the same things there, and he’ll probably will be even more annoyed because it’ll hurt his ranking.
Then go with a team. If you don’t have a team, grab pugs into your team and you can just kick people you don’t like until you get a team. Add them as friends. Repeat until you have enough friends to always be able to get a team. Or just join a pvp guild.
If new players bother you so much, then this will be worth the effort.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
hotjoin/practice is not the place where you learn to play. The only thing you do learn there is how to maipulate spectator mode and win/lose 4vs5.
This.
You will get absolutely NO practice whatsoever in 90% of the “Practice” game mode matches. It’s a place where people go to abuse team joining/spectator/autobalance mechanics to quickly get their daily achievements done. It’s also the place where dragon ranks go to team stack and take a dump on noobs for just the fun of it.
Unranked is the lowest tier where you can actually practice getting better in sPvP. Play ranked or improve your MMR if you can’t stand people who are trying to get better. Or better yet, whisper them with helpful tips to improve their gameplay. You might even help your team win by making them understand basic Conquest mechanics and tactics.
That’s not totally true. Sure you won’t learn a thing about teamplay or winning matches, but you will at least learn how maps are built and their secondary mechanics, as well as learning what sort of things to expect from enemy players (e.g. dodging hammer and mesmer shatters), all of which are beneficial to new players.
I imagine that the majority of players including myself started in hotjoin before playing actual arenas.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
No difference, it still takes players away from other pvp modes, thus impacting match quality.
Nobody cares about conquest? I’d like to see actual statistics to back this up.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
What does unranked have to do with anything? Leaderboard = ranked.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
The fact that you haven’t named any cons shows that you haven’t thought this through. If you split ranked arena into 3 different team sizes, you will have on 3x less players in each mode, resulting in either 3x worse matchmaking or 3x longer queues, both of which will destroy the pvp playerbase.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Maybe I’m a minority, but I hate Foefire too. Only because of how far the points are from each other
I assume you mean the side nodes, the distance between side and mid is much smaller than forest.
And I like to think that the importance of the mid-point in this map is great since it forces a different playstyle to other maps.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Also pushing far after winning mid is a very bad idea. The enemy team will be on respawn and if they see their home node contested, they will just zerg the point and kill you, which causes you to be outnumbered across the map temporarily. Instead you want to be in a position to see respawns while being able to reinforce both home and mid quickly, there are certain sweet spots on every map for this purpose.
The exception to this is that a thief is fast enough to neutralise the point then escape before the respawners arrive, since they can abuse shortbow 5 for mobility.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
(edited by Random Weird Guy.3528)
In soloq, don’t try to use portal for your team because it’s too unreliable with pugs, use it to get yourself across the map. One trick is to leave a portal at your home node before heading to another point, you can then use the portal either to prevent a decap or as a means of escape if you’re taking heavy pressure and need to reset.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
If there’s a new player on your team, then there’s a fair chance that there’s one on the opposite team as well. So in order to win, you need to make use of yours (depends on the class obviously, if it’s a thief then suggest they start with an easier class :P )
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Kinda hard to tell without seeing video footage – one possibilty is that none of your team are holding points and as a mesmer you can’t really hold points either since you rely on mobility to stay alive.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Dying to a bunker guardian when I was first learning d/p thief…
I also remember missing a treb shot and accidentally downing a thief that was on the way to me in stealth.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Made this suggestion a few weeks ago: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Suggestion-Restrict-ranked-arena-access
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
-Random Guy if you lose 6 unranked arenas in a row 10 minutes per match then you get 3k Rank Points in one hour.
-If you win 20 practice matches in a custom arena with rank point earning while kicking other players so its a forced 1v1, 3 minutes per match for an hour you earn 10k rank points.
-10K is over three times more than 3K in the same amount of time.
- So in short yes Elia it seems at first a bad way at doing things but its actually an unreasonably fast way to gain rank points to the point of being an exploit.
There’s obviously a massive misconception here, go win a custom arena match within 3 minutes and screenshot yourself getting 500 rank points from it. You won’t get anywhere near 500.
Also, nobody is going to lose every single unranked arena game on average. Even if you are the worst player in the game, there will be several matches per day where your team is better than the other team and able to win regardless of your own contribution. Assuming that you are not the worst player in the game, you should be able to win at least 1-2 games every 6 games on average, most likely more.
Now lets combine this with the fact the fact that you stop gaining rank from custom arena after a certain points, that makes this even less of an issue.

4.) ONLY the score you reach at the end of the match AND the above mentioned win-chance matters.
You reach 200 points against team A (you had a win chance of 20%) => -1 Point for you.
You reach 300 points against team A (you had a win chance of 20%) => 0 points.
You reach 400 points against team A (you had a win chance of 20%) => +1 Point. You reach 200 points against Team B (you had a win chance of 80%) =>-2 Points for you.
You reach 300 points against Team B (you had a win chance of 80%) => -1 Point.
You reach 400 points against Team B (You had a win chance of 80%) => 0 Points.
There’s a lot of data missing here, for example winning against team A (500 points) would result in +2. The code at this link is fairly self-explanitory: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Matchmaking_Algorithm#Ladder
I personally think winning a game with an 80%+ win chance should award 0 points though – you aren’t really proving anything by beating a team that you’re significantly better than.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
(edited by Random Weird Guy.3528)
Ok another way to explain it, they can make the match last however long they want, they can wait until the moment in which a threshold is met and one of the individual can get the full 500 for winning every time.
And where’s the issue here? You get 500 from losing a match in unranked arena, even if you only win 10% of games, you still get more rank points from playing unranked than you do by manipulating custom arenas.
Custom arenas is not the way to quickly get rank points no matter how hard you try.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Doing this they can Manipulate the match so it only lasts 1 minute and gain 500 rank points.
If the game lasts 1 minute you get less than 100 rank points, it’s been like that for like 2 years now…
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Or fix the solo vs premade issue.
They already tried this. What happened is that new teams would get matched against top ESL teams because there were no other full premade teams teams in a queue at the time.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
So I had no lag at all today until 10 mins ago, now I have 1-5s delay on everything I do.
EDIT: I just froze for a whole 30 seconds, yet my chat was still updating…

Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
I hate playing with people who innately suck at X class because they have to play it in ranked. WTF is this?
You can get all 3 dailys in custom arena…
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Frankly, at this point, if people do not push ready, it means they really don’t want to. Especially in soloq, a lot of people don’t push the ready-up button because they’re discussing some kind of quick strategy. The button could maybe be a little bit larger, but don’t forget it’s not mandatory to press it.
I’ve never had a full pug team in which each player had the strat nailed during the countdown ._.
I’m all up for moving the ready button.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Well a lot of people (including me) are lagging hard right now, so I imagine the player pool is somewhat smaller right now.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
MMR itself is seperate, otherwise people could get their mmr really low in unranked and get a 100% win ratio in ranked arena vs low ranked teams.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Both today and yesterday I’ve had horrible lag from about 7pm onwards (GMT). It would be perfectly fine beforehand, then I’d go have dinner and come back to find myself with heavy rubber-banding and up to 5s delay on skills (varies).
I even tried to play PvE for a bit, but I couldn’t even tag the Fire Elemental world boss depsite being there before it spawned, since I was frozen the whole time it was up…
It’s definitely not my internet, online speedcheckers can confirm that. Tracert gives me 13 request timed out messages at the end of the trace.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]

Change the daily to Daily [insert class here] Killer rather than Player. That way you still have a daily that people have to go out of their way to get, but doesn’t incur the issue of people walking into ranked arenas on a class they don’t play.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Well that’s interesting because I often find myself waiting up to 8 minutes for a match when I solo queue during off-peak hours. A common scenario is waiting 4 mins for a queue pop, and by that point someone in the queue has gone afk and forces the queue to reset again.
I certainly wouldn’t want this to take longer…
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
No. An off-season is the time period between actual reward seasons, kind of like WvW off-seasons.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Rank farming has already been nerfed quite a long time ago, you can’t get more than 10,000 rank points from custom arenas and you get far less rank points for a match that finishes within a few minutes. The only thing to ‘farm’ is certain achievements that can be done outside of rated games, although you’d get AP faster by doing jumping puzzles.
Because of this, I don’t particularly pay much attention to rank farmers since they’re basically wasting time.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
“can run away like no other” – This is a joke right? They have like the lowest mobility in the game unless you run with sword or GS (and it looks like you’re talking about hambow)
Clearly someone has never played Guardian
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
given 10 are in Q , put the 5 with the most experience together.
So in this situation you would match the 5 most experienced players against the 5 least experienced players, resulting in a complete steamroll of the less experienced team? This is no fun for either team.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Don’t try to shill with your ‘there can’t be perfect balance’ garbage you moronic pile of human filth.
So I’m a ‘moronic pile of human filth’ for trying to promote the positive side of the update. Right.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
The problem with this is that the queue times would go through the roof.
The system would have to find 4 other players of the same skill level, with none of them being duplicated classes and then have to match you against 5 other players of the same skill level with no duplicated classes.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
People are asking for PvE to be harder, nerfing might slightly will make PvE harder.
Problem?Nerfing DPS doesn’t make PvE harder, it makes it more tedious.
Considering that PvE revolves around being full offensive and killing things before they kill you, I’d say it’s a slight increase in overall difficulty.
Svanir Appreciation Society [SAS]
Dear Anet, please stop nerfing all game modes only because of pvp. Nerfing might instead of celestial amulet is not good solution.
