Elementalists! Let's discuss legendary staff

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Make its looks depend on which Element you are attuned to. It would have completely different look for other classes using staff, but since this is purely about Elementalist, I’ll only describe that.

While attuned to Fire it spouts fire from the tip of the staff, and gives the player a fiery aura.
While attuned to Water it gives the staff an icy / crystal look with streams of water flowing around it (kinda similar to Bifrost’s rainbow effect, but with water instead).
While attuned to Air it turns the staff in a style similar to that used for the Lightning Hammer, it gives the player an electric aura (similar to Bolt).
While attuned to Earth the staff turns bigger, with some rocks floating around it. It turns the player’s hands and some of their skin to earth.

I don’t care about footsteps, it can be without those.xP

This is an excellent idea. I have no idea if it is technically feasible, but would be awesome if it could be implemented.

Paying for past content?

Randulf.7614

Interesting news. There is an extra positive slant to this;

1) Supports an era of more permanent additions to the open world – this wouldn’t work otherwise
2) The quality should in theory improve massively over S1. No one is going to pay for content if word of mouth is overwhelmingly negative towards the content.

More and more intrigued by S2 week on week.

They are highly secretive on developments. for two reasons;

1) They simply do not want to spoil upcoming content
2) The moment they say what they are working on, people take it as absolute 100% gospel that can’t be deviated on. Should the devs make changes or scrap an idea, many in the community accuse them of failing in their promises.

Whilst many (myself included) feel like yourself, these are the reasons stated in various threads over the last year from devs as to why they don’t reveal much until it is ready for release.

oh and as Stormcrow mentions below; The China release is understandably taking up most of their time in May.

They were an attempt to introduce more events and then deemed a failure because no one knew about them. To my knowledge it is one of the reasons more events weren’t added to zones.

As has been said, they were actually a good start at bringing fresh events and ideas to the zones. It was a shame they weren’t destined to be expanded upon.

I always find it funny remembering how many people despised many of the GW armours at the time and that professions like elementalists in particular never got any good armour skins.

I find the GW2 ones a vast improvement on what we had in GW1. That isn’t to say some can’t be imported over mind you and more in game skins to compliment the gem store ones.

Living World S1

in Living World

Randulf.7614

The whole content would have to be reworked so much I doubt they would be able to commit resources to the library idea. Most of it was designed for large groups of players – including Tower of Nightmares, Battle for LA, MArionette, Twisted Invasions. None of those could be re-interpreted without months of work from the team, by which point it would probably be moot.

Even if they made them exact to how they were, then the same issue that plagued the content towards the end of each release would happen again – lack of players as interest waned.

What is the ratio

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I doubt anyone has been tallying it since launch. The gem store as in every single MMO and exactly as expected will have received far, far more updates since that is easier to do.

I suspect the ratio is much closer than most MMO’s though given the number of game updates the game has had regardless of quality/permanance since launching.

However, you could ask the Black Lion subforum. They might know the actual answer – those frequenting are the only ones who’d be inclined to keep track if anyone.

Randulf.7614

I’ll c/p what I said in the other thread about it;

It shows how out of touch Joystiq are with parts of this review. The unlimited tools are very popular – you can see that by how many use them in open world. The Llama finisher is exatcly the sort of thing you would want in a gem store. In fact they fall under the same category as the sparkly armour skins they themselves suggest (just sparkly animations instead).
New classes and weapon types in a gem shop? That would a disaster! They even allude to that themselves in an earlier paragraph about pay walls! I doubt many would want to pay for new classes/weapons when they should be free with new content.
Skins is the one thing I agree with them on (except the ugliness _ I like most of them). GW has the worst lock box system I have ever seen in an MMO. A very bizarre ticketing system of skins when you could stick them in the gem shop and leave them there.

The henchies/heroes comment was not required. It was never meant or designed to ahve them. I agree about the NPC’s tho

Some of the other comments are fair (dungeons vs large group content for eg) some aren’t. A very strange review all round I felt

Weapon Skins Going away!!

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/05/09/working-as-intended-what-guild-wars-2-got-wrong/

The gear and lockbox situation is frustrating

Collecting armor and weapon skins in classic Guild Wars was what I lived for, but Guild Wars 2 has trapped way too much of that metagame behind a pay wall and a grind wall, which has more than once stifled my desire to play or pay for anything. The armor available in the current gem store commits the cardinal sin of being infrequent and ugly, and the nicest in-game armor skins require specific dungeon tokens (and associated grinding) in a dramatic departure from Guild Wars, which simply required you to procure the money however you preferred, acquire the materials, and complete the requisite campaigns or maps. The weapon skins are even worse; those you can find dropped or buyable normally within the game aren’t much in the eyecandy department, and the most beautiful skins require extreme grinding or the purchase of lockboxes from the cash shop — lottery tickets that give you a chance at a drop that you can trade for something worth wielding. I know the game needs to make money somehow, but this is a huge turn-off for such a cosmetic-centric game.

The cash shop offerings themselves continue to stump me. I can understand buying gold, but I don’t know who buys llama finishers (see the top image) or weak consumables or overpriced eternal harvesting tools or chef hats or lockbox lottery tickets for weapons and dyes and minipets. Yuck. I am never even tempted by these things. I want to support the game, and when I open up the cash shop, I am there to buy beautiful armor and stunning skins directly. Even better, I’d love to buy new classes, new weapon types, new skins for my minions and pets, new animations, new particle effects, new dailies options, and new explorable maps! Please let me give you my money. And let’s pass on the llama finishers.

Think this is very relevant.

I don’t think so at all. In fact it shows how out of touch Joystiq are with this review. The unlimited tools are very popular – you can see that by how many use them in open world. The Llama finisher is exatcly the sort of thing you would want in a gem store. In fact they fall under the same category as the sparkly armour skins they themselves suggest (just sparkly animations instead).

Skins is the one thing I agree with them on (except the ugliness _ I like most of them). GW has the worst lock box system I have ever seen in an MMO. A very bizarre ticketing system of skins when you could stick them in the gem shop and leave them there. Never understood this need to remove cash shop items. I’ve worked in sales for the better part of 20 years and I’m still dumbfounded by temporary gem shop items..

Very much against it being instanced. I love the idea of these open world raids. Sure they are tough, sure they fail a lot, but there enough faceroll bosses that reward loot that these work just fine.

I agree the spawn times are poor though. UK players really only the option during our days off sadly. And loot remains dire. It should be guaranteeing exotics at least.

Prophecies and factions had worse stories in my opinion. Only Nightfall and EOTN managed to salvage that for me. Lotro also has a worse main story and is declining at a stunning rate…surprising considering it has a laid down story to follow!!!

Having said that, there are well documented improvements to be made to the story presentation. I’m hoping we will see something half way between the Living Story and Personal story next season which draws on the feedback the community gave regarding how we felt season 1 played out.

I fully support Konig’s underwater suggestion. I love the underwater stuff – Kudos to Anet for putting it in the game, but it really needs some work. I understand why it hasn’t been a priority, but suggestions like the above will aid it immeasurably.

My second would be to pack more events into zones. I was in Snowden yesterday and whilst it was fab seeing so many people in the zone again (great job with the Megaserver), there wasn’t much “to do”. Really making zones unique to each other which a high number of events on alternating timetables would make zones fun to re-explore.

What happened ? I just don’t find any real reason to play

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

It’s not necs an improvement on said system, but it is interesting and it is different. If I want expansion style progression..I’ll play Lotro (which is going downhill with every expansion, but is just about playable) or any of the other countless mmo’s out there that do that. GW2 at least offers an alternative and I enjoy it for that. If others don’t, well that is entirely their prerogative – it is not going to please everyone. I’d prefer Anet to stick to their vision, tweaking it to player feedback rather than wholesale overhaul the game and it end up being something different.

I have also yet to see concrete statistical proof of a declining playerbase. I’d be surprised if the population hadn’t dropped, but not to the extent many have proclaimed.

At the end of the day, it is a video game. Nothing more. It will do what it will do and I’ll follow it whilst I enjoy it (which is likely a long time).

New weps. Or new skills?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

New weapons personally. I’d rather see a large uplift in number of weapon types for variety and that would likely be much easier to balance than adding skills for exisiting weapons. I can see that being a nightmare to track and abalnce (given the insane headache GW1 caused the dev team)

Mostly I find them excellent and a huge range to choose from. One of my biggest bug bears with GW1 was how poor the choice of armour and weapons were, this seems to have been addressed here.

Having said that, there is room for improvement. Staff skins particularly need some love, when you you compare to shield, where the attention to detail on shields has been phenomenal.

Your opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

GW2 is better for me – more to do, less limitation on exploration, far more skins to choose from (ele armour was hideous and limiting in GW1). Much more sandboxy when it comes down to it, which is what appeals to a greater extent.

Whilst GW1 hasn’t aged well, it was an excellent game for it’s time and I thoroughly enjoyed Nightfall – it took the franchise to an amazing level. And Alliance Battles were the first time I ever found pvp in an mmo actually good fun.

Both are stand out (and very different) games, GW2 just edges it for me though.

I think I’d like to see an end to the zerg content. Or at least a reduction in its use. How to do that, I couldn’t really say, but content like Marionette was a perfect example of the devs getting a piece of content spot on. Same with the gauntlet. Even though I couldn’t defeat Liadru and probably cursed every dev under the Sun trying, the whole idea there was absolutely brilliant.

Gw2 most grindy game ever..?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Try playing a game that has a 3-day waiting list for an 8-man only group to kill the mobs that give the best exp for those last 5 levels before endgame. Where “endgame” is a real concept (entire focus of the game., not the journey to get there).

A game, where dying causes your exp bar to go backwards, causing you to lose exp for every death.

Where the only exp you get is from killing mobs. Not crafting, not doing quests, no exp boosters.

Where gaining exp is not linear. Not the same ratio for every level.

No one makes games like these anymore. Those games are too grindy.

-Walked uphill to school and back in snow both ways

I still play some like that lol. Nostalgia eh

Sometimes you can really see how MMO’s have moved on by playing those ones and GW2 in a session

This game does not even come close to grindy compared to many mmo’s out there which force the grind for stuff actually needed! Here it is cosmetic only and yes it is grindy, but no more than GW1 for titles. That was more mind numbing I found.

That isn’t to say improvements aren’t needed though so that real rewards are more on the table as opposed to luck rewards
