i dont understand why people think MM can only be played as a powermancer. if you want both, just do it.

Hi guys. I let the poll sit for an extra little bit in order to get some more votes. Here are the results.

I’m personally quite surprised at how many people are happy with Death Shiver, as well as with the fact that people think PotH is worse than Reanimator (I agree, but I thought people hated Reanimator more). Do any of these results surprise you guys?

About Reanimator and poth: pretty much what bhawb said. Poth can be completely useless and the idea of a pure MM-trait as a minor is just bad..
Reanimator on the other hand can at least be a little bit useful. If theyd manage to change Reanimator in such a way that it’s actually useful on non-MMs and not overpowered on MM’s, i’d prefer that to getting a completely new trait.

As for death shiver: i really like the idea of the trait. we have so many traits that do have an effect when you enter DS and all; it’s refreshing to see a DS-trait that works differently and can provide you a bonus for staying in DS longer. i just think the numbers need a buff and the trait itself doesnt fit the traitline. could be moved to spite maybe.

The greater marks change is nice (making the increased radius standard),…

First of all: this change is absolutely horrible!
Secondly, if it’s true, then there will no longer be an increased radius. Atm you get 240 radius with Greater Marks, 180 is already the default size.

Something is off about those patch notes. Why would they need to write mark 2-5 increased from 120 to 180 if the base radius hasn’t been 120 since October? Did they mean 180 -> 240 for all marks? Either way, “Greater” Marks won’t fit the disciption anymore, and it certainly won’t be worthy of master tier with just the unblockable feature.
Anyway, there’s still the CDI to argue against it if it’s really supposed to be implemented like this.

well, that was a bad choice of words. i didnt mean to say that the change to greater marks is nice, but that making the radius-increase default is nice.

but youre right, even then the patchnotes are wrong, since the 120->180 increase already happened.

the changes look good. too good imo. there must be a catch.

Soul Reaping III—Path of Midnight: This trait now reduces recharge time on Death Shroud skills by 20%, up from 10%.

i thought it was 15% all the time?

Soul Reaping XI—Foot in the Grave: This trait now applies 4 seconds of stability, up from 3 seconds.

i like this. but im afraid this trait becomes too much of a must-have.

Spite X—Chill of Death: This trait now deals 12% less damage.

i cant believe they actually listened to the whiners complaining about this one -.-

The greater marks change is nice (making the increased radius standard), but now there are 2 problems:
1.all it does now is making marks unblockable. imo thats not enough for a master trait. should get moved down to adept again.
2.the name ‘GREATER marks’ doesnt fit anymore.

Vampiric sounds interesting; if the scaling is actually useful this time, that is.

Necromantic corruption sounds far more reliable than what we have now.

[PvX] Why the next patch is a nerf to Eles

A lot of the current, and few, elementalist builds rely on boon duration. And with the rune changes we’re gonna get hit hard and no amount of regeneration or blast finishers you add is gonna save what’s left of this kitten melee class.
Please keep rune bonuses as they are, this is one of the few games that punish for variety. Don’t take down anymore builds, we have few of them as is.

Anet wants to remove the 2/2/2-rune setups from the game (i also have no idea why, lower stats for more cond./boon duration seemed fine to me), but they also stated that there will be a rune set-alternative for people who want lots of +duration.

So i think it’s likely that at least one of the rune sets gets changed to focus on boon duration and probably comes close to the old 45%.

What the…. why does the elementalist teleport not break stun? I could have sworn it did. Is that the trade off because it deals damage? I think I would rather the stun break. Good thing I don’t play ele.

It got nerfed (and rightfully so, imo) a while ago, because they found having every single cantrip to be a stunbreaker was too much

Although, I do think the warrior is very powerful, I don’t think the problem is that they are over powered. It’s the fact that all the other classes aren’t equally balanced or completely weak.

Warrior is fine. I actually think their skills aren’t good enough. Banners are nice but there could be more useful skills in my opinion.

Wheres the difference between warrior being better than all the other class and all the other classes being weaker than the warrior?

Nerfing one class or buffing everyone else is exactly the same, when it comes to balance between classes

Healing Surge: Needs a revamp, burst heal can go up another 10% healing across the board and the active effect needs to complement and not punish warriors for using their Burst and Adrenaline. It’s a silly contrary heal to the profession.

here’s an idea of what theyre imagining the necromancer to be. the reality is different tho.

As for the minions: they will try to attack what youre attacking. Ground target skills dont work for that, you have to attack an enemy with a targetted skill for them to become active. Exception is the Golem, its AI is much weirder than that of the other minions.

Vampiric builds: yes and everyone knows that. Anet had some sort of ‘Blood magic love’-update, but it was a kittening joke.

Pet classes always have this problem, at least in every game I have ever played. If you balance around the pet living, it has to have almost godlike immunity to incidental AOE, making it uncounterable, or it gets blown up easily by AOE.

i never said anything about random AoE and stuff like that. i was talking about how sluggy it is. it cant attack while moving; most of the F2-skills have ridiculous casting times and take ages to perform (because anet loves dem pretty animations). why does a kittening shout or leap need 2 seconds of cast time?

im pretty sure there would be ways to make the pet more survivable in zergs, pve and other aoe-fests without overpowering it.

cap the dps it receives, give the ranger more ways to actively protect it from damage… something like that.

Pet mechanic classes where the pet is responsible for damage are a terrible idea, always.

now that is just baseless generalisation. so DPS-pet is awful because the dps drops when the pets dead. but utility-pets would be better cause…why exactly?

Anyway I wont dispute pvp problems. But from a pve perspective. Rangers are in a fairly decent place, they could use a little help. Mainly changing the sword auto. So i rated them 3rd.

rangers are stuck with a kittened up, unreliable class mechanic that needs work. maybe theyre fine in terms of power, but something has to be done about the pets and their kittenty AI/cast times.

and yet, not many ppl vote for warrior or guardian, the most played professions by far

I’m kinda seeing ranger and ele spam across the board, not without reason, but this probably shows how few people main a necro.

I understand voting for rangers cause theyre stuck with a class mechanic that doesnt work.

But ele? maybe theyre a bit weak (no idea, honestly. i hear ppl whining about them but i also see the screenshots of fullzerk-hammereles with ridiculous damage), but at least the class is finished and all and works, unlike necros.

The DS bar as a hitpoint bar substitute most likely, since that is tied to the transformation.

There are ways to emulate it without using a transformation; the main question is how many buttons/abilities would we confine a rework to and of course if manpower would even get spared to do it in the first place. Right now there are five activated abilities plus the DS bar, and most classes only get 4 function keys max for their class mechanics so something would have to give even if it were reworked as an always available 3rd weaponset/bundle/attunement.

nah, if i remember it correctly, there was a time with no utility-delay. i think that got implemented when they removed the ability to switch weapons while in DS. so the hitpoint substitute at least worked without the delay.

It’s most likely related to DS being a transformation mechanic that blocks our normal skills and the interactions between that and client /server desync which is unavoidable.

Honestly the only way they could probably fix that without an engine rewrite that may still not work is change DS to work like a weapon bundle instead; but we’d lose some functionality of some sort to implement that.

This bug breaks the necro profession and needs fixing asap.

Im making sure someone sees this and it is addressed.

Let’s just hope that one day the UI-delay will accidentally affect the gemstore or the tp. it will be fixed within hours then.
(either that or necro-ui gets removed completely, so the store isnt in danger anymore)

How would you guys change the Signet mastery trait? 3 stack of might for 10 seconds is a bit lackluster.

its your normal 20% CDR trait with an ok bonus as adept trait. how much more do you want? if you make the side effect any stronger, it would be moved to a master then probably.

the only thing i could imagine is to let it give a different boon depending on which signet you use.

maybe you should decide what playstyle youre aiming for and then choose the stats for your equipment. not the other way around.

that being said, pure magi is pointless. maybe you can use some magi-pieces in some setups (clerics for example) but you should never have a full magi-armor.

I’m happy that fear doesn’t interrupt (confusion). I use Rune of Perplexity on my necro and i think that it would be way to OP to have 5-8 conf evry 8 sec.

Didnt want to cram all of this into the comments section, so:
-Full of life: i just cant understand why Mesmer has the exact same trait but with twice the duration. I mean we’re the class that is supposed to facetank stuff with DS and high base HP, while Mesmers have tons of evades/blocks and whatnot. Plus, it’s likely that a part of Full of life’s heal will be negated by death shroud. So if mesmers have 10 secs, we should have at least 15.

-Mark of Evasion: the 10 second ICD makes no sense at all. Necros have no vigor, so we can only dodgeroll once every 10 seconds anyway. And other classes like guardians, engis, mesmers, thiefs have no ICD at all on their respective traits, while being able to dodge a lot more thanks to vigor.

-Blood to power is weak and boring. It should be scrapped and replaced with something more interesting. Something that gives us more groupsupport/use for healing power, hopefully.

Emapudapus, you seem to be new here. I suggest you lower your expections (to zero) so you wont get disappointed by Anet that much.

We will get more or less what they were previewing a couple of weeks ago. They always say that they have a lot more changes, but usually it’s kittening nothing besides a couple of tooltip fixes noone gives a kitten about.

I’m actually fairly interested in some of these results.

  • Would Death into Life be better as Vitality? Would you keep it as HP if it was a minor trait?

Actually, what i really want are Minors that add some new effects to your character, instead of all those boring “+5/10% damage when X” or “7/10% of X goes to Y” traits.

So while better use for our Healing power could turn this into an ok trait, i would prefer it if this gets scrapped and replaced by something more interesting.

I’ve given it about a week in between each poll, so unless everyone is really antsy to move on to those, I planned on starting them on Sunday.

Since there doesnt seem to be much of a discussion, im fine with moving on.

Death’s Embrace: I am fairly certain most classes have this, or something like it. At least 4 do. So I never expect Anet to change it.

So? This doesnt make Death’s embrace any better. Noone should ever pick this garbage.

Parasitic Bond: How can you complain about free health? Sure, this tree may not be the best place. But 1k health from killing something. In terms of necro support, thats a hard hitter. xD

I just really dislike On-Death-traits, cause theyre absolutely useless in a lot of scenarios. And it gets countered by our class mechanic. Would rather see a parasitic bond that works more like its GW1-counterpart.

Would Death into Life be better as Vitality? Would you keep it as HP if it was a minor trait?

No. I would prefer having more use for healing power.

Would you rather Spiteful Marks be merged, or do something else? If merged, with what?

I like the idea of merging it with soul marks.

For Spiteful Removal and Parasitic Bond, is the concept bad, or the reward? I personally have gotten great mileage out of these in WvW zerg fights, but…

The snowball-concept. It’s good if youre in a big fight, if ppl die, if youre not in death shroud. A bit too many ’if’s, imo. And by the time enemies are dying, i often dont need parasitic bond anymore either.

It’s surprising how many ppl consider Death’s Embrace to be alright (or parasitic bond).

Or why some think Spiteful talisman is subpar. It’s a normal 20% CDR trait with a very good extra. As a minor trait, it cant get any better.

It suffers from a lack of direction. At the end of the trait line, you have the two best GM traits for Power and Condi builds. The minors are all very weak, and the Adept traits aren’t stellar either.

So i got back into GW2 during christmas and leveld a warrior. This was alot of fun so i dicided to go back to my old necro the one i played when the game first came out i and i am pretty dissapointed. It dosnt seem like the necro has gotten an love at all. almost on the contrary. But since i havent played regurarly i would like your guys opinion on how the necro is now. Is it worth playing it or should i just level a guardian.

I’d say dont bother. while the have fixed some really criplling issues (our class attribute not doing anything, downed health), they also implemented some more awful crap (locked utility, loss of the damage block of DS, etc…
playing necro might be fun, but it will also make you rage about how unfinished and messy the class is. that the devs dont seem to have any clue how to deal with that doesnt help either.

since youre already comfortable with them, stick to heavies. theyre clearly anets favourites.

Terror and condition duration

The timer for all condition ticks starts with the first condition applied to a target by any player. The game doesn’t have a universal clock for all ticks.

For example: you start with bleeding at T(zero) and apply a 1.1 sec fear at T(zero)+0.9sec then you’ll get two Terror ticks.

what about regeneration and other heal-over-time-effects btw? does it use/apply the same timer?

it works like every other condition:
once per second the game checks how many stacks of each condition are on the target and inflicts damage accordingly.

if you apply fear right before one of these ticks it will deal damage immediately and a second time after a second, when the game checks again. so it is possible to get 2 ticks of terror out of a <2sec.-fear.

to answer your question:
exactly 2 second fear will proc twice.
1 and 3/4 second fear can proc once or twice (twice is more likely)
2 and 3/4 second fear can proc twice or thrice (thrice is more likely)
3 second fear will proc three times.

that is, if theres no -cond.duration on the target.

(at least thats how i remember it. havent played much recently)

I have 2 ideas. The first thing I would like to suggest is – swap Condition Duration from Spite with Crit DMG from Soul Reaping. It makes possible to create interesting builds with DS and spectral skills. And the second one is about changing grandmaster Soul Reaping minor trait(Strength of Undeath) from “You do more damage while above the life-force threshold.” to “Signets passive effect works in DS.”

i agree with the first idea.

the second one not so much. first of all the passives should work in it by default. we shouldnt require a grandmaster minor for signets to do that. (just as lifesteal should work by default, without an additional trait).
and besides, having minors for specific utilities is a really terrible idea. like protection of the horde, but worse.
but it definitely needs to change. not only is 90 power just pathetic, the trait itself is also a bit boring.

Radius: 360
Healing: 400(v1) 600(v2) 700(v3) 750(v4) 775(v5foes) +0.2*Healing Power*foes
Damage: ….

e.g.
Deathly Invigoration, 1000 healing power.
1foe(360 radius) – 600 heal
5foes(360 radius) – 1775 heal
1foe(370 radius) – 0 heal

sounds great but at the same time i would like to keep deathly invigoration. maybe change a different trait to that?

Never seen a power necro in a zerg, but if you say it’s so, it must be so.

you dont see much necros at all these days cause every other char is a heavy…

but if we have necs in our zergs, then theyre wellomancers most of the time

Do any WvW guilds run condition necros? Wellomancer is the meta.

my guild doesnt. with the ridiculous amount of cleanse in general (and especially on heavies) it’s just not viable

So they’re running power then? I highly doubt that…

completely agree. it sucks that you basically HAVE to use this stuff and a condition class/spec.

but there already have been numerous thread about this (and in some there even were a couple of kittens defending the food) for months, but anet just doesnt care.

I think this would disrupt the current zerging meta, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but there is already a lot of complaints about the current condi meta so…hard to say.

there isnt really a condi meta in zergs. more of a condi-hate meta.

i wouldnt mind the conditions being removed if the boons woud be removed aswell. this just seems unfair.

lv4 – (20 points) conditions you gain last 10% shorter while you are capturing

enough with the condi-hate already! >.>

im also not a fan of this:

lv1 – On player kill you have a chance to gain 1 supply

getting a valuable ressource by just blobbing around seems wrong. especially when it’s already on rank1 of the line.

Dolyak mastery, like give it armor + more toughness when u escort 1, they die to easily

how about this:
lvl1: the player gets an aura that gives nearby dolyaks 10% damage reduction. can stack up to 80%
lvl2: dmg reduction raised to 15%. dolyak and guards have retaliation
lvl3: you can slap the dolyak to give it a short 50% MS-boost
lvl4: dmg reduction increased to 20% (still can stack up to 80% )
lvl5: if a dolyak reaches an allied structure while under the effect of the aura, it delivers 5 additional supply

i’d also prefer it if you have to make choices tho.

3*. a nerf for condition spammers, so that conditions are just an occasional side effect and an inconvenience like they were in gw1. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Condition

it’s hard to not be offensive when you suggest dumb stuff like this. you sound like some of my guild mates that just want to nerf conditions into the ground so they can heavytrain and mash their #1 even harder without disruption.

btt:
pretty much everything Marzattackz mentioned, except for the increased AoE-cap.

my favourites:
1.a better, separate balancing
2.rewards that are more equal to pve: easier ways to get ascended, more silver, more uses for badges, exclusive stuff (and stop making everything accountbound or unsalvageable ffs)
3.downed/death: you can only rez dead ppl out of combat and outside of enemy buildings. harsher penatly when you were downed and rallied. limited number of ppl that can rally off a kill
4.more interesting maps: different borderlands, rework of the ruins and the buff: the buff is kitten and barely anyone actually caps the ruins
5.some sort of penalty for heavy blobbing
6.about sieging: ppl on walls should have an advantage over enemies outside. it’s ridiculous how attackers can cover the entire wall in AoE but you can barely fight back. funny how the 3 entrances to the lords room of stonemist are a far better line of defense than the 2 walls. maybe changing the way line of sight is calculated would already help a lot.
