who wants a mini-map that shows the enemies? people shouldn’t have built in radar. You would start just using the mini-map to fight… like a lot of games from Elite in the 1980s to Eve online when you fought best by using the radar map instead of the visuals.

I complain about having a big red tag above my head let alone a dot on the mini-map.

Chill is not thematic for Guardian. It might be okay for very rare application, but just like Burning on Necro its completely against the real theme of the class for widespread use.

same as bhawb, im completely against the suggestion. Guardian is probably the last class that should get any more chill (or have it to begin with). i simply doesnt fit at all.

Since it wouldn’t be an actual buff they’d just need to phrase it something like “…has been fixed to be displayed correctly”. Make it look like a tooltip improvment (which it would actually be) and no non-necro would be the wiser.

So a direct damage character hits you, and you heal off the damage taken and can re-engage the fight without worrying about bomb damage and cooldowns. A condition damage character hits you, and you not only need to heal from the DoT’s, but also need to cleanse conditions to remove them to prevent taking damage beyond your healing skill.

oh and you dont need to do anything to prevent taking direct damage after you healed?
asking for a general cleanse on heal is like asking for immunity against direct damage after a heal.

Additionally, conditions are applied at full damage even when the caster is affected by weakness

sigh Thats the kittening point of conditions. While conditions are not affected by weakness, armor and protection, they are also not affect by vulnerability or all the %-based damage modifiers that you can find everywhere.

both reflection and retaliation do not apply to conditions, meaning there are even fewer ways to mitigate or counteract the damage dealt by condition users.

Retaliation applies to condition-applying attacks as it applies to every other attack. A Condi-build will take the same retal-damage as a power-build when both when they attack the same amount of times. What is your point? are you seriously suggesting that every tick should trigger retaliation?
Same goes for reflection. Condition-inflicting projectiles can be reflected just as well as those that dont.

Meanwhile, condition damage users also only have to rely on one/two stats for optimized damage throughput while comparable physical damage builds rely on two/three for damage, making condition builds inherently more durable

Well, since you cant burst someone down but have to wait for your dots to tick, of course conditionbuilds need to be more tanky. If Condibuilds need more stats, noone would play a condition build, since it would be as glassy as a power-glass cannon but just take longer to kill an enemy.

I have a feeling that they just don’t want to mess with it any more than they need to.

Also, I think our lf regen combined with the damage reduction is in a pretty decent place right now. So ideally I’d like to see the damage reduction gone and the lf bar number adjusted to be 120%, rather than having our primary damage mitigation nerfed by 50% to match the current numbers.

the downside of this: other classes will start to whine about us having 120% LF.

You would think implementing a second/third healthbar into the game without kittening up almost everything about it shouldnt be that difficult…

So if you take a 10k hit to a 5k+ lf pool you will just lose 5k life force.
If you take 10k to a 4999 lf pool you will lose that plus an additional 5001 of regular hp.

Thats pretty weird. Shouldnt it be 4999 LF lost and 2 HP? Sounds like another bug.

Its not so much viewership. At one point a dev had said he might come on, but unfortunately since we do profession podcasts, to have a dev talk about one profession but not the other 7 would get them in trouble. So they’d have to talk about all the professions, which would require us to keep up a podcast for each profession (which is actually pretty hard).

Thats a pretty kittened reason for them not to talk about necro’s imo. why are they forced to talk about all classes in the nec-podcast? Arent there some podcasts about other classes too? (and if not, then it’s their fault for not having one)

No idea what you can talk about. The game is really stagnant and it feels like everything necro-related has already been discussed over and over.

Personally and I think maybe quite a few people would agree with me, that there needs to be a minimum level requirement to enter wvw. Far too many (new) people now-a-days are too dam lazy to level up exploring map’s/doing events/learning the game etc so they join wvw and leech X amount of levels without helping the zerg/server gain valuable points in the league.
I think a reasonable level ought to be around lvl 50 at least so that they can help the zerg/server.

I think level 20/30 would be the most reasonable. By that level you got the most crucial stuff unlocked: weapon switch, class mechanics, all 3 utility slots ( and your elite). and chances are that you already have some skills unlocked aswell.

Traitwise it is hard to say. some specs may have really important grandmasters, for which you have to be lvl 80 now, others may need less than that. The difference in terms of raw stats can be pretty big, but that issue could be circumvented by giving the upleveled players some sort of stat-compensation for every trait point theyre missing.

Other than that anet should just fix their horrible, kitten-tier uplevel system. Bring all gear, no matter what color and level, statwise (weapon damage and armor aswell) up to exotic lvl80 in WvW, add the missing tertiary stats and it would be fine.

As we all know, conditions in wvw are out of control and horrendously difficult to counter. So here are my proposed changes.

WE dont know this. WE dont believe this. It’s you. You just make this assumption. stop doing that, it makes you look like a moron

Bleeding: can only go up to a stack of 5
Blind: remove completely
Burning: just fine
Chilled: remove completely
Confusion: gets removed once the damage has been done
Crippled: remove completely
Fear: once used the enemy gets a boon which means that fear cannot be placed on them for 10 seconds
Immobilize: remove completely
Poison: remove the reducing heal potency by 33% part
Torment: reduce the damage by 50%
Vulnerability: just fine
Weakness: remove completely

seems like you want to be able to ignore most stuff that is thrown at you and just roll the face over your keyboard… (actually, why not just switch to warriors? it’s pretty much what they can do right now)

I main a guardian, guardians have the best condition removal in the game, if I can’t counter them with a full anti condition build; something is seriously wrong.

The same blowhards who mock people who do not wish to fight them are likely the same people who play thieves and PU mesmers who run when they’re about to lose, anyway.

Little wonder that people don’t bother fighting them anymore. Half the classes in the game can just flee on a whim, so what’s the point of even stopping to fight these days? The game is just not balanced around having massive open fields, it’s balanced around fighting in a tiny circle, and it shows.

pretty much this. whats the point to fight thieves when they can just get away pretty much whenever they want? same with warriors, sometimes.

IF someone does roam solo taking camps by them selves they would run from another solo person. I spend 90% of my time guarding a tower on my home map. Is I see sentrys flipping and camps with swords I go see what’s what. I am amazed to often find a solo player in a camp guards all dead ring up I rush in and….. They run away.

2 reason i can think of:
1.that player maybe used some of his cooldowns to kill the camp
2.it took him a while to flip it, which means its likely that some guards are going to respawn. i wouldnt want to duel in a camp with respawning guards either, but take the fight somewhere else

And necro’s don’t spam on power. Plus conditions with retal is meh.
so your point from necro pespective is kinda invalid here.

I would even say necromancer needs more retal uptime.

more uptime is the last thing retal needs. if anything, it needs less uptime, higher damage and an internal cooldown.

Remove the -40% food, and then balance that with removing the +40% condition food, or bring them both down to 20%. This seems like a fair compromise.

Wont happen, unfortunately.

A lot of players were calling for this (or a similar nerf) for ages, to make alternatives viable, but Anet doesnt listen. Or doesnt care.

Its hard to belive that there is something wrong with “conditions” when you hear something like this:

- you re playing my hardcounter, still afraid to loose if you dont get the first hit ?
- you were probably playing 0/4/4/0/6 terrormancer with foot in the grave.

- more like faceroll build.

- as i said i dont want to fight a 1 spaming necro build.

This is a biased viewpoint not only because you main Necromancer (as per your signature) but also because you conveniently decided to mention that nothing multiplies condition damage without mentioning that Weakness divides power damage.

if you want to make a list of the multipliers, at least try to make a complete one:

Power:
+Vulnerability
+Numerous traits that usually give a +5% to +20% boost (and that sigil)
-Protection
-Weakness
-Toughness

Conditions:
-Cleanses
(+-Condition duration)

Considering both of those classes have AoE conditions, stealth won’t matter. It doesn’t make you invulnerable.

well when conditions r affected by […] using an invulnerability skill after a condi been applied (so it doesnt hurt while u have invulnerable while haing a condition) then sure.

You can use the invul skill to avoid the attack that afflicts the condition. Srsly, what makes you guys think you should be able to avoid conditions with it after youve already been hit? What makes you think it should work like that at all? I just dont get it.

Our role in zergfights is clear since day 1: spread conditions at range. we could go to the front lines but it is clearly not our place, other professions can do and will do better there (exept for dire builds maybe) so since the Staff is our friend we should equip it and rain down an inferno of conditions on the enemy formation.

what? imo the main-role in zergs for necs is well-dropping and plague. condi is kinda meh there; the amount of cleanses and condi-hate in your usual 95%warr/guard-blob is just too kittening ridiculous.

What is your opinion?
How do you play in wvw? You go solo or you go with the zerg?

both. but usually i prefer my thief when i want to roam (yes, i feel a bit bad for that)

wait, since when are you not against ‘lifesteal should work in DS by default’ anymore?

@Drarnor:
why only spectral walk? spectral armor should lose the ICD aswell. with adjusted LF gain, if needed.
either that, or there should be a separate ICD for every attacking enemy. would actually be better since it doesnt screw multi-hit attacks over so much.

Soul Comprehension could make the LF-on-death work in DS aswell; At a reduced rate at least. Cause right now, this trait is pretty pathetic.

I think the first big step is just making life siphoning work period. Then we can do things like introducing traits that allow it to work through DS, or maybe making specific healing mechanics (mainly self-traited ones) work through DS.

i still think it should be the other way around. it’s better to make lifesteal work in DS by default and then adjust the numbers/scaling instead of buffing lifesteal first and then having to balance it again for death shroud.

Sigil of paralyzation will only increase stun duration, not daze duration.

Although the description only mentions stuns, Sigil of Paralyzation does also affect dazes and has always done so.

but didnt they change that some months ago?
when they changed sigil of paralysation increasing fear duration?
and changed the increased daze/stun duration from +1second(rounded up) to the actual value (15%, i think?)?

278 at the moment. got one celestial ascended staff months ago and a couple of rings now and then.

Things like vampiric, full of life, Parasitic bond, vampiric master, vampiric precision are blocked during death shroud.

True, but you dont lose that much when you hop into DS just to cast one or two skills. And blocking large amounts of damage for a moment is also better than trying to stay out leech a little bit.
Again, a matter of timing.
(and to be fair, only the heal-portion of the lifesteal is blocked, if i remember it correctly)

i still think lifesteal of all kinds should work in DS. not because i think the difference would be that big, but because it feels really clunky and ugly the way it is now.

Some builds will simply not profit from the class mechanic, while others even loose viability if the class mechanic is used (worst case). This should never be the case, but actually is for DS and also to some degree the Mesmer. If on the other side some builds make more use than others of the class mechanic, this would be completely ok, as these builds will also invest more heaviliy in class mechanic traits and therefore loose effectivity on some utility or weapons.

at the very least, completely untraited death shroud is:
-a free meat shield to absorb some crap being thrown at you
-a free instant interrupt every 20 secs. (dont tell me youre losing anything from double tapping death shroud
dark path and tainted shackles are also pretty good (but maybe situational) skills for every build

i dont understand how having all this free stuff could possibly hurt you.

if you lose viability when using our class mechanic, then youre not using it correctly (lets say youre playing a condi build and sit in death shroud for no apparent reason). but thats your own fault then, not the death shroud’s.
timing is important and that goes for pretty much every class mechanic in every build, not just necro’s DS: use it at the wrong time and you may be screwed.

i usually herd them together, drop wells, (axe3, whorn5), marks, life transfer and dps down whats left of them.
when i want to be fast, i use lich form for the last part, but it’s overkill normally.

I have this bug too. It’s something to do with equipping the “Deep Strike” trait in the arms tree. You can reach 6 signets with it if you equip all of the other ones.

unequipping deep strikes and changing the map worked, thanks. still curious how that bug works, since i never had signet of might equipped, not even underwater

warrior one click 4s fear and copy the thief to a lesser extent

you miss out the part where warrior’s fear me! has three times the cooldown, requires an utility slot and needs to be closer than 200 to his target, while necro only needs to be closer than 600 to get the full effect.

with both untraited, doom alone actually has a higher fear uptime than ‘fear me!’.

and thief, well, it’s his class mechanic.

Lifesteal should work in DS.
and sometimes i think the amount of life force you can lose in a second should be capped.

Any Pet DPS focused builds?

In my experience it looks reaaaally squishy even with pvt/knights gear. No condi clear aside from healing spring is a death sentence in wvw. But do try it out, pvt armor should be pretty accessible (for Ascalonian tears for example). If you find your damage lacking mix in more zerker as you learn to play. If you can get hunter’s shot and rapid fire to hit and sic’em after that, you might have good damage, but you need your pet to actually hit for that. I’d avoid using 2 kittys outside dungeons though, get another pet for control (spider or canine). Icy pounc is nice, but canine knockdown is better IMO.

well, thanks. but what else can i bring for condition removal? should i take evasive purity or do i have to use a bear as my second pet? i dont really want to use the stuff that transfers the conditions to my pet.

I got my first ascended weapon chest today at rank 670. When did you get your first and how often do they seem to occur?

278 at the moment. got one celestial ascended staff months ago and a couple of rings now and then.

If your server is the green team it’ll be super easy. If you’re on another team it’ll be harder, but just run there. Chances are that noone will even see you.

hes right. you dont need to do pvp to get pets on the eternal battlegrounds. maybe you get killed once or twice or you have to wait till there arent many people on the map, but it’s not that hard.

same with high lvl areas actually. all you have to do is reach the pet. whats your level?

All about the fear. You can constantly fear your enemy.
Rotation is dot’s from staff -> fear from staff -> dot’s from scepter -> spectrall wall -> dot’s from staff -> fear from DS and the job is done. If not -> mark and blood is power, repeat the rotation.

The new rune of nightmare is just amazing.. FEAR IS EVERYWHERE.

i dont think spiteful vigor is worth it. would swap that to 20%staff cooldowns or something else.

and yes, they are amazing. still kittened that the runes are soulbound. found 3 of them with my warrior…

Need thoughts on Healmancer WvW Zerg build

About the stats, I really wasn’t sure if Magi is the way to go as I don’t need prec, but I do need Vitality and unfortunately there isn’t +heal +vit +power / toughness combination.
The reason I prefer Vitality over Toughness is because it’s a healing build, and if I have less health, most of the heals are gonna overheal in the end. (effective hp or w/e)

you have ~22k base health with maxed out blood magic. that should be enough.
i really think you should switch to another stat combination; pure magi/the precision is a waste. at least put on some cleric-pieces.

and whats so bad about overheal? as long as you and people around you stay alive, it’s fine. i think overhealing a bit (with cleric) is still better than taking way more damage than you have to (with magi).

Leveling with style

Now with the wardrobe online, I can finally level up my characters without being shamed of their look \o/.
Anyone else putting fancy skins on leveling gear?

it’s been the other way around for me:
before, normal transmutation stones were useless and i had 100+ of them so i used them without hesitation while levelling.

now, i mainly use HoM-skins and the cheap skins from WvW.

is the full torment rune set really worth it? with only 2 (3 with heal) sources of torment and rather long heal cooldowns, im a bit skeptical.

In Gw1 we had this little thing called Critical defenses which was an utility that did the following:

  • For 4…9…10 seconds, you have a 75% chance to block. Critical Defenses refreshes every time you land a critical hit.

Recreating this into Gw2 would be a step into the right direction imo , of course tweaking it into gw2 meta but keeping the core blocks which now, thieves for some reason lack.

Maybe something arround the lines of:

  • For 5-7 seconds, you have a 75% chance to block. Critical Defenses refreshes every time you land a critical hit.

You cant be serious. In Guild Wars 1 it was fine, cause there was some counterplay:
-it was an enchantment and therefore could be removed
-it only blocks attacks, not spells
-stuff like Defile Defenses etc.
But in Guild wars 2 this would be utterly broken. Good luck preventing a thief from critting for 7 seconds, if you dont have Stone heart.
