Down with the braindead faceroll classes.
All I know is that crit damage starts becoming more powerful the higher your critical chance is! powerful enough that you might skip some Power stats to prioritize crit dmg / crit chance.
Arcana 30 is not that mandatory for staff users.
For every other weapon combo however, I would take boon duration + attunement switch rate over 10, 20 or 30 points in fire. That train line is just useless.
with just 8 stacks of might you already have over 250 power (iirc), so why not focus on getting them, and increasing their duration?

I truly give up now. I’m not gonna repeat myself for the 4th time.
I run the bunker build for the same reason that everyone else runs it. Alright, so you’re saying the only reason people run dapheonix’s build is that they can’t dodge. Otherwise if they were better they can do all that dps while being just as survivable AND support if they were just good. Keep thinking that, but did you know you can’t dodge when you help a downed group member getting chewed up by mobs? Or do your groups never down and everyone is perfect? This is what part of taking a supportive role means, it isn’t about just giving boons (which you also can’t give as much of a duration for if you run full gc and spec for most damage) and healing (which you can’t do as well as a full dpser). You also realize that the recent patch hit gcs harder than bunkers and that auras are still far from useless right? Frost aura is hit much harder in spvp than in pve (in pve, it now grants 10% damage reduction in exchange, and can even be considered a buff), shock aura is only fixed in that it procs the correct amount now, and that fire aura is actually better now? If anything, daphoenix’s build has become even better for supporting, with the only exception that zephyr boon double proc is fixed. The build is hit, yes, but much, much more so in pvp/wvw than in pve, where frost aura used to shut down thieves and multihitters, where mobility of rtl is really essential to survival/chasing, and where healing in fire attribute/fire aura is really not done/used often (so related buffs are nearly useless).
It really makes me wonder why you two are so bitter towards the “fotm build” though. If it’s a bad build, why would you want it to be nerfed so badly? If it’s a good build, why are you so against the idea of it and using it? Do you truly believe anet did a good job balancing this time? This really boggles me. The only thing i can think of is: hipsters.

You don’t need that much condition removal or survivability for pve.

Where ele shines most in pve is bunker, because you can give those ridiculous might stacks while giving long durations of protection, auras, swiftness, regen, condition cleansing… etc that no other class can simultaneously do.
For the 3rd time, I can give ALL OF THAT to my group without sacrificing my dps.
The only thing that I’d be lacking would be some healing and the aurashare, but aurashare was nerfed, and it isn’t really useful in PVE. Lots of classes can give fury to your group.
Just admit that you’re not a good player. There’s nothing wrong with having poor reflexes and not dodging / positioning yourself properly in the battlefield.
At least my build won’t become fotm.

Actually, that would apply to the people building extremely tanky eles, don’t you think? It’s the other way around.
I have no reason to build tanky because I’m doing just fine. You, however, feel the need to stack survivability stats because like you said, you “cannot survive for jack in dungeons” due to how fragile an ele would be without them. Meanwhile, I don’t consider myself fragile despite running a very unforgiving build. It’s quite the challenge to play and I feel good for being just as survivable, if not more, than most of my groups.
Anyway… so many flaws in your logic it’s almost laughable at this point.

Nerf wasn t that light expecially on balanced builds….they could have just hit healing scaling rather than hitting OFFENCE and MOBILITY.
I agree with this part. It was too big of a nerf and it affected random builds more than the lovely bunker ones.
When bunkers were the only ones that should have been hit in the first place…
Fix: Allow only 1 character per account to loot chests.
Also, isn’t it common for WvWvW to have far more people in one place at a time than at these chest events? Why is that not as laggy as the chest events?
I think it’s because the dragons / monsters eat up a lot of resources too.
Simply put: People playing at their home server shouldn’t be screwed over by guests.

s/d does the lowest damage in my opinion. Very limited AoE options and if you consider how the most damaging spells of s/d are indeed from the dagger part of the combo, then you have a pretty subpar weapon damage-wise.
staff does a lot of area damage, perhaps more shifted to DoT / dps and not as bursty as d/d thats why it feels like it does little damage.
don’t forget about the range too.
Just don’t plow into zergs because you are going to be instagibbed. And yeah, you can’t 1vs1 with a GC ele.
Also, be sure not to be the “slowest guy” when retreating because you’re going to be instagibbed.
And don’t get caught up trying to take down a target in a zerg fight because you’re going to be instagibbed.On a plus side, you get to troll people with Mist/Vapor form often. That never gets old.

I go 0/20/0/30/30 and use the might stacks + boon duration to make up for the low power values.

1. Get a better computer or guest to a less populated server.
2. What server dosen’t have any trolls?
3. The only complaints I see are people who try to zone for the last few seconds of a boss and end up getting an overflow. I have never had an issue with this if you go to the zone before the event starts. If you zone at the last second you run the risk of missing out on the chest due to overflows.I don’t think the guests should be punted if they helped get the event going. The guesting allows people in off time zones a better chance to participate in an event they want to. Something I hope Anet learned from the one time only event.
Lately, it has become a common trend for lesser servers to jump onto high population servers to do boss events. This has caused more harm than good.
List of issues:
1. Lag is unbearable.
2. “Trolls” come in to mess up the timers / events on purpose.
3. Some maps (during world events) reach their cap limits, and then the people from their OWN HOME SERVER, start to get thrown into overflow, while the guests happily stay there doing their thing.Please, get rid of it or implement restrictions
Suggestions -> Pick one
a) Time limit (can’t guest for longer than 6 hours, resets weekly <- This is only for high population server guesting)
b) Capacity limit (If an overflow is created, guests will be the first ones to be teleported to it)
c) Loot limit (guests cannot loot world chests outside their own home server)
d) Technical limit (guests won’t be first priority when it comes to culling)Chat delay, skill delay, low fps (the only thing on my end) really do get old after a while. I hope ANet is aware of the problem.

Seriously? You think I’m complaining because I’M the one guesting?
To be fair, we don’t know for certain whether or not the huge mass of people there ARE mostly guests, or whether it’s due to the fact that world chests got a massive loot buff and thus lots of players native to that server who wouldn’t normally bother with doing those events are now showing up. The lag is DEFINITELY a problem; nobody’s arguing with that. (Hell, I’ve griped about it myself in a few threads.) We just need to find a solution that will address the real problem and not what may turn out to be not the cause anyway.
Even if guests were only 10% of the 200+ players that attend those events, it is still an issue.
A good start would be adding some icon to the guests portrait / hp bar to identify them, though I’m pretty sure that they are the problem.
It’s simple tbh, while what you say may or may not be true, the root of the problem comes from the fact that high pop / “full” servers should simply not admit guests. Those servers are marked as highly populated for a reason.
And I told you that I can support well while still pulling out damage numbers that you won’t ever achieve not even in your dreams. It’s not on par in terms of support because I lack enough healing power (I have 200) but everything else is exactly the same. Aurashare was nerfed to oblivion so don’t think that 6 (x2) seconds of fury for your party makes you the ultimate support master.
I’ll repeat myself, and I expect no answer because you already announced your departure, right?
Whats ele’s “job” and what prevents a DPS ele from fulfilling said job (whatever your answer is) if they choose the berserker route?
Your answer was support, but you didn’t or couldn’t formulate an appropriate answer for the second part of the question. I guess that giving everyone 25 might stacks with s/d isn’t supportive enough, same can be said about all the combo fields and CC that I bring with staff, and the superior AoE burst that D/D offers.
I’d rather support at 80% effectiveness while doing 300% your damage than going for 100% support and doing damage comparable to an NPC.

The more significant point is that dps eles don’t win out against dps wars. and obviously you choose to ignore that because it’s convenient to you to win an argument for the sake of it, even though you did not give any constructive ideas or points, going straight for the personal attacks.
What you’re saying: oh, you didn’t know necro dagger hits only one target? kitten you don’t know anything else about eles or warriors. Great argument. The fact that you waited to call me out on it when you are obviously so belligerent also shows that you didn’t know this fact until now, and you’re using it as the only leverage you have. Dagger does single target damage fyi.
95% of ele D/D spells do aoe damage.
anyway like I already said in that other thread, keep being “supportive” I’ll be slightly less supportive while inflicting 4x your damage.

The difference is that ele is already the jack of all trades. Going dps doesn’t mean that you suddenly become a mindless autoattack spamming bot. You still possess ridic support, control and boons to give to everyone.
A warrior that goes dps cannot do that. Because he’s just a warrior.

Any build without 15 in water and elemental attunement (arcana) is in my opinion, bad.
stay at 20 air, steal 5 points from somewhere and put 15 in water.
Get rid of arcane power and arcane skills cooldown reduction. get renewing stamina and elemental attunement in arcana.
I swap traits constantly. Bolt to the heart only for champions / bosses, the rest of the times it’s a combination of X, III, I and IX according to what I need. (IX and I are the default ones).
Ignore the people saying that you can’t go dps on an ele. I fail to see what provides a tankier ele that a glass one can’t provide, in a party setting.
Sure you take 1 more hit before you die horribly, but if you knew how to play you wouldn’t be even getting hit.

0/10/0/30/30 – daphoenix build with toughness and Healing Power as main defensive stats
still the same.
Look for me nothing changed, it’s not as easy to stack vigor but you can use cantrips for that. I longer fights I still get plenty of my boons and outlast every single person in Pve or WvW.
If you consider 5 (!) seconds on pretty strong gap closer, the end of your build (believe me people have been whining about it) then you are doing something wrong.
Oh and Berserkers eles (on the squishiest class but whatever) don’t get a say in this. If you are too reliant on one skill to save you because you went full glass cannon then you are doing something wrong.
Never go full glass cannon, especially on elementalist.
People whine about ONE second nerfs in mobas and other games, and you think that 5 seconds isn’t significant?

I doubt you can reliably kill bunkers as a “mobility survival” user too.
But with higher critical chance it’s getting hit for 1800 much often than your for 2500.
Too bad I have 61% crit chance? and 81% with fury? The damage numbers don’t even come close.
Protection is more effective if you’re taking more damage, and elementalists have also many ways of staying alive besides just going for high armor numbers. With a mechanic like dodging in this game, it makes glass builds more viable compared to your average mmo.
I posted my stats in the “stats thread” that is also in first page. I might be swapping some berserker pieces for valkyrie (not knight’s). Be glad that your advice worked.

In DE in this game you don’t need more than a few staff damage to complete it. You don’t need high damage at all, as long as you get a few hits for your loot/reward. There are enough loads of people who do the DE so it really doesn’t matter how much damage you do, it will end fast with a huge zerg. In 1v1 it is infact the most optimal, you produce insane damage which is hard to remove (your opponent won’t manage to remove Burning and Bleeding EVERYTIME) and the damage your burning and bleeding are doing will allow you to also dodge and heal in risky situations will your opponent is still recieving damage. Same applies to WvW, but it is also depends. My build is mainly for dungeons, though as I don’t wvw much.
Eles might not be the most optimal in mastering CD, I can agree with you, but CD will allow Elementalist to produce far greater damage (key here is IMO). It is well known eles DPS isn’t the best, or as it should. I’m also playing warrior as my main, and the damage differences are a joke (zerker wise).
About the 1v1 part – You’re using staff right?
If you’re facing enemies that don’t get out of eruption’s way… I don’t even know man.
You just answered your own question… but anyway, I just left click like a madman 2-5 times in my desired direction and use it.
There’s probably an easier way to reliably deselect a target but I haven’t figured out that one yet!

You are the one who doesn’t seem to realize how much of a difference crit damage makes.
1000 base damage
1500 critical hit with 0% crit damage
2000 critical hit with 50% crit damage
2500 critical hit with 100% crit damage
We’re talking about a difference of 1000 damage between a normal crit with 0% damage and an enhanced crit. That’s twice the base damage of the ability.
1500-1800 critical hit to 2500. I don’t know about you but the difference is massive. It’s an additional 60% damage on average.
SIXTY PERCENT, not 5% from sigil, 10% from traits or 20% from bolt to the heart. And the damage difference is even greater if the skill in question is a nuke.
High damage values scale well with high % bonuses.
Once your critical chance is high enough, you’re supposed to capitalize on it with crit damage instead of power. It is absolutely pointless to have a moderate crit chance rate with little crit damage, just like it’s pointless to have condition duration without condition dmg, and high power with no crit chance at all.

I’d say that ele’s underwater is pretty powerful. Three hard cc’s (sink x2/stun), an aoe cripple and a variety of combo fields / finishers.
Water is your most damaging attunement (it makes sense for water to be stronger… underwater)
All of your attunements provide similar utility but if I had to pick one then Air would win.
Protips:
You can juke people with air 3.
You can area stealth with earth 5 + blast finisher
You can give your group 9 stacks of might with fire 2 / arcane wave / water 3+3
Water 5 does RIDICULOUS damage.
Fire 5 gives vigor to everyone.
Don’t use air 4 and air 5 together, that’s overkill. You cancel air 4 with the stun before it’s even finished…
air should blind and inflict weakness
earth should bleed and cripple
fire should burn and do way more base damage
water should chill and inflict vulnerability
ZERKER IS WASTE.
In armor and weapons 1% critical chance is counted as around 11-14stat points. Comparing to jewel, 1% critical chance = 5stat points.Therefore, to get more out of almost every proffession, people shouldn’t be using any other berserker parts than jewel/orbs/runes.
Do you think that 1k-2k more health is so much better?
In order to use your critical damage successfully, you need to stack dat precision, and every single bit counts.
I see where you’re getting at though, you made me consider the possibility of using valkyrie armors.

up until then it seemed pretty good despite the nerfage… then I heard about the renewing stamina changes.
I was mad, and I still am.
zerker is the way to go and if you’re already used to its playstyle then even better.
pick traits the way you want, but to me 15 in water and 10 in arcana are mandatory, no matter which trait combo you’re doing.
personally I use 0/20/0/20/30, full berserker (arcane shield, wave, and mistform)
lag does that .
All this kitten aside, renewing stamina got buffed!

It was not a buff.
Signets are useless, some glyphs need slight improvements and the conjures need complete revamps.
off the top of my head:
Glyph of storms needs to have its cooldown reduced
Glyph of elemental power should allow conditions to stack on top of another (you can’t cripple a target again until your initial cripple wears off, same with chill, weakness, burning)
Glyph of lesser elemental should be somehow more useful, I don’t know how tbh.
Signets passive effects need to be dramatically buffed and also have their cast time shortened.
The fire signet needs precision per level. (idk how to possibly buff the lackluster active while keeping the “fire” theme)
The water signet needs to have a 5s chill at least + vulnerability 3x
The air signet needs to also apply weakness
The earth signet needs to have increased toughness per level
Arcane blast projectile speed needs to be faster
