From least to greatest?
+1 Anything to add a more realistic cosmetic flavor is good in my book.
I talked to John Corpening. He said there will be physical copies of HoT eventually. Although, exactly when and what those copies entail is unknown to me.
I was not able to get my hands on PAX passes (Freaking things sold out 54 minutes after they were posted) — unfortunately. But, if by some miracle I am able to get one of those party passes, I’ll definitely head over there just for that. Totally worth it.
Why not melee part of the time and range part of the time depending on the situatuon/enemy? Forcing yourself into either role is just crippling.
This is like a wet dream.
I’m hoping to make it, but I can’t be possitive.
Playing Guild Wars 2 is like having the privilege to roam free in a beautiful, evolving, and interactive painting with your friends.

Bring my range baaaaaaaaack
My guess is Gamestop will get copies for preorder when HoT gets a release date announced…unfortunately
Please, I really need more WvW tourney tickets.
Hello!
As We know, right now we’re able to get pre-purchase boxed copy of HoT from our retailers, but how about boxed copies on release of HoT? Will it be also available? In America, I’ve yet to see them available for order.
I want to Pre-purchase. I want a boxed copy.
What’s the deal, ANet? :-/
Yeah, I just visited 2 local GameStops today. Both said they haven’t heard of any mention for HoT Boxed copies coming yet. Maybe they will when HoT gets a release date?
I’m completely OK with not knowing the exact launch date of HoT because I would rather get TOP quality content, rather than get the HoT filled with bugs and things that might not work, faster.
I agree. But also keep in mind that A-net won’t be able to get all the bugs or make everything perfect. So be patient when HoT launches. This is their first expansion after all.
Offhand training on Ranger.
We have Ambidextrous or whatever it’s called now, but it doesn’t give a range increase on offhand weapons. Furthermore, the range increase was not made baseline. Without that extra range – Warhorn, OH Axe, Dagger, and especially Torch are crippled.
You sure do make a lot of accusations and assumptions. Maybe try backing up your statements? Maybe? Just a thought.
It’s not a “burst meta” at all. Right now everybody is still experimenting with builds, and yes, there is a lot of damage going around. You would describe intelligent play as dodging high bursts… Why not play intelligently and dodge/avoid high damage burst then?
However the metagame is shifting towards where burst damage takes priority over bunkering. Support ressing without a banner or assist skill is extremely difficult without dying. Meta isn’t always an “established” build/idea, it’s simply a strategy to gather the most out of the current environment. As such, burst damage is the current most favourable option.
Also dodging have less impact than prepatch. Previously if you dodge a burst combo, opponents would deal lesser damage as you sustain yourself. Currently many classes have a damage boost, even if you dodge a burst combo, their auto attacks would still down you quite fast.
I will have to disagree. In my opinion, due to the high number of glass bottles running around, there is actually a greater demand for bunkers than ever before. It’s true that many have gained a damage boost, as you say, but it is also true that those who spec defensively have gained a defensive boost as well. The spectrum is wider. Build yourself right, and you can survive even the most hard-pressed onslaught (1v1 or 1v2) for a good 90-60 seconds. This provides an opportunity for your own teams glasses to come in and wipe them out. In addition, their increased squishiness means your dps can actually down them in 1v1’s.
You can’t forget that while they can down you fast if you do nothing, they go down just as fast — of not faster. Be smart, and be agressive.
Necro’s are supposed to be the kings/queens of condition manipulation. In this semi-condi meta they are a direct counter for it. Deal with it. Don’t attack them as their strength.

I dont think the game is imbalanced i think people are refusing to change there runes/sigils/ ammys and still expect it to be the same as before. I honestly feel this is the most balanced the game has ever been.
[…]That’s a lie if I’ve ever seen one. I picked the most vitality and toughness among all amulets and runes and every single defensive trait in the most defensive/support specializations. Every other enemy could take the guy down in 2 seconds alone, without the help of other party members, when such a defensive setup on a warrior should let the guy live at least 10 seconds against 2 enemies just standing still doing nothing.
Now this is a lie if I’ve ever seen one.
1) my bunker guard can last in a 1v2 against a glassy ranger and thief for a solid 60-90 seconds.
2) no bunker spec, no matter how tanky, should be able to last longer than 10 seconds by just doing nothing. Tanking is an active roll in combat. The resulted tankiness is should be a result of skills used, not passive stats.
When a ‘high risk’ build has no risk because it can defeat anything before they can react, even less if they have a little bit over 200ms latency, that’s not a high risk build. It’s a broken build that must be addressed ASAP.
.
This is the current problem.
Not really. No matter how glassy a build is, it cannot defeat a tanky build before that build can react. Unless 3+ players stunlock the tank build into oblivion, it’s just not possible.
So no, they can’t “defeat anything before they can react”
Dungeons, world boss runs, bloodtide trick-or-treat farm, and most mat runs work
SAB will never return.

I resent your opinion of Mr. Gnashblade. He is a respected man and responsible individual. Send Kiel to clean that up. She was the one voted into leadership, after all. Get her to contract some people.
Gnashblade is a Charr..he is not a man. Perhaps it’s his kitty litter!
The definition of a man is different in Tyria. Leave your racist remarks back in Ebonhawk. Bookah.

Hello,
I never really got far on GW2, despite my buying it at launch.I’ve made another topic on the support forum about the amount of disk space it will consume (GW2 and HoT).
Regardless, if I have enough space, I will likely return AND pre-order HoT next week.
At the same time, is GW2 welcoming to someone who only has toons in the starting zones?
Thanks.
Welcome back!
Yes, this game is very friendly to starting zone players. Especially now thag the Queensdale champion farm is more or less gone. Feel free to ask in mapchat if you need help or have a question. You can even post in the lfg (in your contacts) under open world that you are a “new” player who has questions and/or needs help. I’m sure you will get people who would love to join you. Best of luck — and happy adventuring!
I imagine that once HoT is out and running, they would assign a small team to focus their energies on SAB. Then when THAT finally is ready, they will add baubles to the wallet in conjunction.
There’s always going to be people crying, but there is difference between high risk builds and just too much damage around. And actually no, not all specs are on par with other classes. I honestly don’t understand how people are fine with leaving broken things in game. Everyone also gained a lot of passives. I dunno, but I just can’t see anything skilled about mesmer bursting someone from stealth.
Mesmer needs to be fixed (not necessarily nerfed) but fixed for sure. One point we are arguing is while there is a difference between too much damage and risk/reward gameplay — that problem currently isn’t a problem. We believe the damage and tank ability levels are nearly just right. From what perspective do you find there to be too much damage? Like, do you run a glassy thief? Or a trying to be tanky guadian? We would never be fine with something broken. But that’s just it: we don’t find it broken — we find it fixed.
Here’s the problem with traps, even before this update; if any decent opponent sees you use them, you will never hit them with a trap. They will just outrange you or dodge through them to trigger and avoid them entirely.
It’s literally the same exact issue a bomb kit engi has, which is why bomb kit hasn’t been an optimal choice since around the same time traps stopped being optimal (aka both of the builds utilizing them fell out of popular usage).
Now, that isn’t to say you can’t make them work. I’d say that playing a set designed to stay within range like Axe/Dagger Sword/Torch compliments traps well. Problem is that, again, against any decent opponent you’ll have to be super aggressive and intelligent with trap usage so that the opponent can’t just avoid or evade them entirely.
True. But then you can start spacing them out so dodging 1 doesn’t dodge them all. And even if they do dodge 1 or 2 — there goes his endurance — gg. Just have to take advantage of he/she being unable to dodge further.

I need 15 characters.
When the tides of change come some people adapt and swim and some don’t and get swept under it and drown.
I think the damage for the most part is fine. The first day I did alright with the new changes. The second day I noticed I was dying too fast with a Rampager Ammie for hybrid damage and crit procs from sigils. But after eating one too many Rapid Fires with only 11.6k HP I knew had to change. So I went back to the drawing board and worked on finding a new combination of amulet, runes and sigils. Sure I lost some of the crit chance, about 50% of it actually, but gained more condition damage and about 9k hp.
Basically there are those crying for the game to change and there are those who changed to win at the game. And those who changed to win at the game are happy to feast on your tears.
Tears are ascended quality, I’ll give them that. They make fine crafting mats.
You have to actually treat them like traps now. You can’t throw traps at your opponents — that’s rediculous — rather, you jave to coax your foes into them. If you are on-point, and a ranged enemy starts pewpewing you, just retreat off-point until they get just near-over your traps, then advance. And set them in different places on-point every victory so the enemy doesn’t know where/when to dodge.
People that wanted HS as a trap were not expecting arming time to be a factor. Arming time is the worst thing ever, and only created so the DH wouldn’t be grossly overpowered.
Also, since when in history does trap have a positive connotation?
It’s funny that people said I wouldn’t notice the arming time. Like ****ing Hell I don’t notice the arming time. It seems forever from when I hit 6 and when HS triggers, and because of that arming time to actually triggering, it’s not where I need it to be. I want my old HS back. This kitten is kittened.
Adjust your timing. Learn to trigger preemptively.
Having set columns helps A-net balance.
These two are also musts:
Into The Mists – a build calculator
And
Dulfy – The ultimate wizard of new content guides/previews.
Should have a day where everyone runs Guad elite spec and rain heavenly death from above.
There are a few tweeks/bugs that need attention with this skill. Hopefully they will be addressed soon.
Actually, I remember many people asking for HS to become a trap and if I remember right it was also discussed during the CDI as well. At the time traps were throwable so it may have seemed like a good idea at the time.
Not many people actually supported this becoming a trap, even on the forums, and the idea of having to wait in one place AFTER using my heal skill just to have it heal me and then wait even longer in that same place for the condi removal absolutely kills the viability of this skill as a support tool. Staying alive means staying mobile; clearing just one condition with the skill now requires using the skill, waiting for it to arm, activating it, and then waiting another whole second to pulse.
Don’t wait in the same place. Drop it while strafing, then do a hard 180 and go back to it. Also, I don’t think you have the statistics for how many Rangers like the change or not; don’t state a guesstimate as fact.
-Water spirit = 2s regen
- Sun spirit = 1s resistance
- Storm spirit = 1s stability
- Frost spirit = 1s fury
- Stone spirit = 1s aegis
- Spirit of Nature = 1s quickness
-Cast time of spirits reduced to 0.5s to keep it in line with engis turrets.
-Increase their range and health a bit, so they don’t die to cleave as quickly and so they can be a little farther away without being useless.
-Give them a pulsing debuff to enemies nearby. Water applies weakness, Sun applies blind, Stone applies cripple, Frost applies chilled, Storm applies vulnerability, and Spirit of Nature applies slow.
-Their on use skills shouldn’t be based around their body but instead around yourself, so when you activate them, the spirit casts it at your location.
[ I pulled these ideas (and modified them) from https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Nature-s-Vengeance-and-Spirits-are-horribad/first#post5212619 ]
How about this?
I feel like Spirits in their current state are just worse turrets. Some of the activated skills are kinda nifty but their small range and delayed activation really cripple their uses.
Just a few ideas that I think would help them:
1. Increase their range and health a bit, so they don’t die to cleave as quickly and so they can be a little farther away without being useless.
2. Give them a pulsing debuff to enemies nearby. Water applies weakness, Sun applies blind, Stone applies cripple, Frost applies chilled, Storm applies vulnerability, and Spirit of Nature applies fear.
3. Their on use skills shouldn’t be based around their body but instead around yourself, so when you activate them, the spirit casts it at your location.I’m currently running a burn spirit ranger in tpvp and while I enjoy spirits, they just suffer from their low health, their stationary effects, and their on use skills being unreliable.
I really like this idea too. This, combined with most of the OP’s suggestions would likely make spirits very viable, actually.
Think reducing the duration of burning applying skills would work? Burning would still be a burst condition, but people wouldn’t be able to get 20+ stacks of it without being completely focused on doing so beforehand. (PvP perspective)
Actually, dodging is less powerful than Protection and Resistance now. A LOT less powerful. Like A LOT.
But nice trollbait man.
If he’s trollbait, does that make you the troll?
Also the skill requirement was raised somewhat. Reacting to burst and applying the appropriate countermeasures is more important than ever now.
Yeah, I was really expecting these ranges to be made baseline. But now I’m just a sad Ranger
You could just like stand in it yourself and it’ll activate. Imo HS I way better now as you can get the healing portion separate from the cleansing and it being a trap you can actually reduce its cooldown and increase its duration with 1 trait.
Plus with the trait you can have perma-regen just with the trap alone.
Open world is kind of irrelevant. In dungeons i fear that Rangers will never get invited anymore.
The ideal composition of 1 guardian, 1 PS war, 1 thief and 2 elementalists just got a lot more stronger, while our damage got a bit stronger due to pet doing a bit more damage.
But it is no where near the 40% DPS buff the PS warrior got, or the insane free damage the thief got for PvE. The meta is still stack, freeze and burst so bark skin does not mater.
We do have amazing vulnerability application with remorseless. Not much, but something.

Are you kidding me? Really? This trait should be changed:
- 3s interval
- Water spirit = 2s regen
- Sun spirit = 1s resistance
- Storm spirit = 1s stability
- Frost spirit = 1s fury
- Stone spirit = 1s aegis
- Spirit of Nature = 1s quicknessEdit: Cast time of spirits should also be reduced to 0.5s to keep it in line with engis turrets. Activation of spirit detonation should be instant.
I agree with everything here a ton — except for the instant-activation on spirit actives. Just a quick activation is good enough.
RE: HS requiring a trigger.
If you have 100% health, you don’t really need the cleanse either. If you are using HS to cleanse cripple, chill or vulnerability, you are doing it wrong.
This. Also, it’s kind of annoying atm that our pets can trigger the trap when trying to pre-set it. Have to stow the pet to be sure it doesn’t trigger early.
There was something wrong with the fact you could throw “traps” in the first place. They were just grenades at that point. These are now actual traps you have to set down and predict enemy position. Ground targeting should never have been a thing.
Who says there was something wrong with being able to throw traps?
You could trait for it.
So according to you…..
Did you even run the build?
Logic says there is something wrong with being able to throw traps. However, I will say that A-net buffed traps for having a new activation time, imo they should have buffed traps further to make up for lack of placement ability.
Well to be fair, are you listening to what you’re saying ? If the damage off the weapon skill is powerful enough to insta gib a ranger by being reflected then yes it might very well be OP, after all who wants to be insta gibbed ? Surely not the Ranger and surely not the person without a reflect.
I just wanted to point out the major flaw in your theory tbh.
Not really. Need to look at the whole picture. The Ranger (if dumb and takes the whole channel) will die to that one skill because they gear to deal loads of damage, but shatter when you poke them. Most (not all) of these Rangers survive by hiding behind 1500 range. Reflect simply turns the tables: bypassing the 1500 defense and forcing the Ranger’s DPS on himself — which he/she can’t handle.
If you spec beastmaster, go for “Go for the Eyes” and “Wilting Strike” and use a Hawk or Eagle. There are no CD’s on these traits and the pets can use their F2 crazy often.
