Ok, so most of us playing the game know that if you want significant DPS you use equips with berserker stats. On top of that people can trait build to get some ridiculous damage as opposed to say somebody who uses carrion or knight equips.

Disclaimer: I read your entire post and will get to it, but I see this comment so much on “anti-zerk” posts and it just blows my mind.

The only thing you mention here is DPS. You take a 3 offensive stat (zerker), and compare it to a 2 offensive, 1 defensive stat (knights), and this is where I get completely lost. What is the point in the comparison, if all you are talking about is DPS? Zerker by design should be better at DPS than knights. It literally makes no sense to have a full offensive set be matched by a slightly defensive set. I just will never understand why people keep claiming defensive sets need to be as effective as zerker sets. Why would anyone take zerker then? And yes I know that your focus for the rest of your post is not on this, but it’s just extremely frustrating. Until people accept that it’s fair to have defensive sets subpar to offensive sets, in terms of DPS, this “zerker issue” is going to go no where. I mention this because it leads into your next point, to just randomly add defensive stats so that all the mixed defensive stats seem better. I don’t want defensive stats on my gear. I don’t need it. Please don’t bring my effectiveness down because someone’s not willing to bring their effectiveness up.

And as others have pointed out, your suggested change will only lead to a shifted meta, not a “bring whatever you want” meta. It might bring things a lot closer, but guilds like DnT actually get into the math of how effective a build is, and even if it’s a small % better, they role with that. I highly doubt anet can make several armor sets that are completely equal. Even assassins and zerkers has some noticeable difference. And then that info trickles down into the people who want to play meta, without really understanding why it’s meta. And you are where we are now: a large portion of the community saying “this is optimal” regardless of how much better it really is.

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing. By having enemies that attack faster, but softer, it will incentivize other forms of damage mitigation. Unfortunately, that then also brings into consideration the usefulness of healing power…

And that is a whole ’nother topic all together.

imo, that cripple duration you proposed is too short for a trait that only procs when the target goes below 50%.

Lordkrall is just being reasonable. A-net had no idea a plane crash would happen shortly before their joke release, there is no good reason they should pull the whole gig just because some people are temporarily sensitive.

If characters making vroom noises and pretending to be planes is offensive to you just because a plane related disaster happened, then you need to toughen up and grow up in my opinion. Sure people die, that’s life. But that doesn’t mean you have to hurl your resentment at other peoples’ fun.

You see, darkness here is the perfect example of why the community thinks rangers are bad. When a bad player like him tries out ranger and repeatedly dies he assumes something is wrong with the ranger class because the problem couldn’t possibly be his own lack of skill.

I’ve been playing this game (ranger most of the time, 91% sPvP games played) for over 2 years, now.
And statistically around 8-9 rangers out of 10 I played with were horrible. PvE wise I’ve seen 2 good rangers out of all the hundreds I’ve met, so far.

If you see my name beside the numbers, you can assume that I made the maths behind it.

You may find it easy to dodge if there’s only 1 revenant, but imagine if there’re 10, how do you handle this insane amount of range AOE CC, especially after the stability nerf?

The game has incorporated a “mega-server” system. All maps have a mix of players from every server. In general, the whole community is nice (the PvP community has the mainstay of the not-so-nice). Servers only come to be important when accessing WvW. You can get an idea of what the server competitiveness for WvW is like here:

I’d avoid the lowest tier servers, as they are mostly ghost-towns. The highest tier servers can be very…busy…filled with hardcores. I’d recommend something in the middle (11-5th).

As for the possibility of a ranged-only ranger, I can tell you it’s not recommended (I main ranger), but people do do it often. The ranger’s two bows, longbow and shortbow, are on opposite sides of the damage spectrum. Longbow is a power weapon, while shortbow is mainly a condition applier (same with MainHand axe). Good rangers can keep hard pressure at long ranges, but stay equally tough in melee as well.

For those who aren’t aware, the background arts for the Ranger’s Wilderness Survival and Beastmastery traitlines are backwards.

While the “Wilderness Survival” traitline is back-dropped with animals, the “Beastmastery” traitline is back-dropped with a pack of sorts and the design of a compass.

It’s been this way since launch. I just hope it will come to the attention of A-net eventually (if I/others say it enough). It’s a very small problem when confronted with all the other issued Rangers — and at that the game — face. But it still inflames my OCD like no other.

Hard to say, I think this is something we’ll just have to wait and see.

Also, yes you can be attacked, hit, knocked down, dazed, everything while stealth.
You want to say that Stealth is almost invulnerability?… well maybe it is, maybe it’s not…and from my PvP experience is not… but think about this the other way around:

The Defense and HP a Thief has is high enough that it won’t die from another players spit. All it takes is 1 stun, and maybe 1 small mistake on thiefs part and BOOM dead.

I’ve been killed more times than i care to remember in stealth,

and in the end, stealth means nothing if you don’t know how to play the class.

Enemy able to see the thief while in stealth? Bomm done…ruined class that no one will ever play, why? cause its amazingly easy to die with a thief even in PvE if you’re not paying attention.

Do you know what is overpower?(well maybe not but it’s certainly something annoying) Mesmers with thousands of exploding illusions….how can you kill the enemy if he is surrounded by hundreds of clones that explode when you destroy them…in the end either i stop persuing cause of my hp…or the mesmer manages to escape.

Also try taking an interest point from an engi with tourets…i dare you,i double dare you.

Also some guardians? imposible to kill…I mean…how much hp can one have, how many heals?

Elementalists? don’t even get me started….most i encountered werent great…but there were a few amazing ones, that ele has everything quite a spectacular class.

Warrior with the “No damage buff” ? you’re happy if you escape before he stuns you or knocks you down.

Necromancer? Don’t even get me started…that demonic form or whatever that saves his behind untill reinforcements come? charming

And in the end, playing against another thief? I have the most fun right there…

I understand you hate thieves, but every class has that one annoying thing for every other class. Just cause you can’t deal with thieves, doesn’t mean we’re overpowerd….we’ve been nerfed to the center of the earth
