Why wasn’t RF a problem prior to the patch then? You needed 2 dodges instead of 1, it followed you to stealth and it hit as hard as it does now. The range has been the same since launch as well.
This (I’m just going to piggyback off of you from here and not direct any of this at you).
Same effects, same cooldown, same damage, less counterplay pre-patch.
Also, as mentioned prior to this, Rapid Fire now does the same damage as Volley.
Not to mention mesmers have a higher damage burst at range still.
Regardless of all of that, rangers still have the same exact matchups against meta builds as they did previously. Condition builds (like triple kit engis), S/D thieves, meditation guardians, D/D eles, and MOST warrior builds still have the edge in a pure 1v1 (not to mention that those 1v1 matchups accumulate against the ranger in teamfights).
Rangers just have more of an ability to catch people off guard, which gives people a shorter time time frame to react than previously. This ultimately means that the game and builds are now balanced for skill.
Also, top end competitive play in this game hasn’t had a meta shift since the patch. There is still only 1 ranger I know of playing glass effectively at a high end level, and he and his team are an outlier. The rest of the top teams and ultimately the players who popularize builds aren’t even running a single ranger in their composition. Probably because of the poor matchup between every single meta build and ranger builds.
The game is, as of now, balanced for SKILL (anybody who doesn’t understand needs to watch the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EitZRLt2G3w).
Likely, most of these players haven’t noticed the minimal change made to Rapid Fire versus all the other functionality being complained about that has existed since launch because previously, Longbow was a poor weapon with a negligible output that could be dealt with easily by the majority of players and not even rank high on their threat meter, which is indicative of it previously being imbalanced because every weapon in some way should be threatening to an opponent, and longbow was not.
So, we now kitten the same weapon with the same damage output as before, but the damage occurs in a slightly shorter time frame (2.25 seconds is an eon to any not-stoned, not disabled player with any semblance of skill). The only thing that has changed is the reaction time, which essentially raised the bar for the skill level it takes because you have to actually be involved and not just strafing, dodging, yawning and scratching yourself.
So, the ONLY thing that’s changed is the amount of skill it takes to counterplay a mechanic, and not even the way that it is counterplayed. Why then are there so many complaints? Likely, the people complaining are experiencing a two-fold effect of an influx of players dusting off their rangers or trying them for the first time because the class (ANY class) is more appealing after being buffed. So, population is a factor.
Then, we have these players who are more than likely either getting caught off guard (just like getting hit by a backstab) or just being outplayed entirely, and because they haven’t adapted (and judging from some of the responses are mouthbreathers and probably forgot how to dodge anyhow and can’t adapt) their skill level to match the skill required in the currently low end balance, they are going to come on here and complain until the end of time because they can’t adapt to a shifting low end balance.
So, the options are to A) Get better, or
play at the top tier where the build is insignificant for the current metagame (which A happens to be a prerequisite because no top team is going to want you if you can’t outplay a glass ranger).
tl;dr: It’s all important. Read it all. Likely, the people incapable of doing so are going to be the same people who it applies to.
Thank you. You spoke my mind.
One idea I had on the mechanics side of things is that I noticed the elementalist only had access to the trident underwater, and the engineer only used a harpoon gun. If we’re truly following a pattern, the soldier class would be restricted underwater to just a spear. However, part of the reason those two classes only have one underwater weapon is they don’t have access to weapon swapping, because they have so many other skills through their unique mechanics. I’d like to do that for the new soldier class… and I got stuck.
So! Anyone have any creative ideas? What would be good weapons for a front-liner who can’t swap out weapons? Would he be using mostly melee weapons? Would she instead have a bunch of ranged weapons? Perhaps a mix of both? Would he have any sort of magic like the scholars and the guardian? Would she be more ability based like the adventurer classes and the warrior? What would be your ideal 3rd soldier class?
I was thinking something along the lines of a necromancer/guardian/ritualist mix or “antiguardian” that focuses on summoning spirits, ghosts, and phantasms to fight for him/her. Now, when I say “fight for him/her” I don’t mean in the same way a mesmer’s clones or a guardian’s spirit weapons do. I’m thinking more along the lines of how a Ranger’s Maul skill works. This skill is in a way performed with the “spirit of a bear” in nature. But the antiguardian’s skills would actually be carried out via other spirits. As for the main mechanic, that could go several ways. I’m thinking some sort of changing system (not unlike an elementalists) that allows the antiguardian to swap between ghosts/spirits/phantasms/curses. and depending on the “attunement” the player’s skills would have different outcomes and effects.
I have been using something similar for quite some time as well. I’ve found the key is timing splitblade with sharpening stone, and don’t forget about your pet’s f2. Bonfire can be used both offensively and defensively.
I do this on accident all the time.
The reason rapid fire is OP is because if you don’t have block or reflect you need to double dodge to avoid damage where other big damage skills can be evaded in one dodge. They should make rapid fire miss all subsequent shots after an opponent evades, instead of dealing 6k damage to the face as soon as the evasion frames end.
You don’t need to double dodge…
Anet ran out of resources/time to finish that encounter. From what I can recall they were planning on having the party venture fourth into the volcano or something to finish off Zhatian’s head (being undead and all). The old alpha Arah Explorable even had Zhatian’s body strewn over the map. But they had to remove all that due to cutbacks. I believe they will re-vamp this fight in the future when they have less on their plate.
Don’t forget to swap pets too. Preferably before they die.
I want to be able to run up the back of a moving elder dragon. That would be awesome.
keloorie, do you prefer to use power or conditions? Also, do you prefer to be a dps-y tank or a tank-y dps?
Man, I got plenty of ROMs. I uber-clock my DPU in RADE so i can pwn my HDDHSdD on troll noobs . 500 GiggaWatts of ROM, 2000 MilliClocks of CGP, 7500 PetaJoules of Amps. 20 gigs ain’t nothin. I play 20 gigs on like one Friday.
I think you’re getting ROM confused with RAM and your GPU and CPU clock speeds :P
Thanks for coming. Try again.
Well I think you don’t know what ROM is. Because what u meant was hard disk space which is certainly NOT Read Only Memory. :-P ;-)
lol, you’re right. I had a brain-fart :P

Clicking ‘uninstall’ was not extra work. I uninstalled many games that day. I didn’t need the space, but I simply wanted to clean up the computer. Coupled with the fact that Im addicted to the Diablo 3 RoS expansion and Wildstar is nearing the corner, I didn’t see myself playing GW2 anymore, or anytime in the near or distant future.
This patch made me think twice for a second, but still I know the next installment of living story uselessness is right around the corner and that will make sure that I keep the game uninstalled
Yeah, I’d imagine what your looking for possibly won’t be here for another year. But a year is still a time. So it will get here.
It’s just a hastle that takes up unwanted inventory space. Hopefully this problem will be fixed if A-net every implements build templates.
lol, I can see it now “lvl 80 experienced heaver zerker no necro/engi/ranger dps meter or kick”
Just wondering, if you keep this updated with the game, was there a point to uninstalling it? Are you so scarce on ROM that you needed those 20 gigs? Seems like extra work to me.
lol, welcome to the sad side of PvE. We’re not all like this I swear. At least I hope so…
Going to show those world bosses who’s in charge of this kitchen.
I can’t say anything for certain. However, I doubt they will make it stack in intensity. I’m pretty sure it will always remain a duration stacking condition, like burning.
What I described is mostly a max level deal. Personally, I wouldn’t worry too much about your gear until you hit 80. While I level alts, I just slap whatever I get better on whatever as I get stuff. 80 is where you can really start to make design choices, because anything before that you’ll likely end up throwing away anyway.
However, if you insist, then I’d use Major runes of the Undead with Major sigils of Corruption. You can check the traiding post for any lvl 40 masterwork gear that players have made. Try to look for items that are Dire or Rabid. Dire will give you more vitality (and hence survivability), but Rabid will give you a higher crit chance, which could potentially increase the speed at which you apply bleeds.
What kind of reward are you looking for?
I can answer #2 right now by saying you’ll probably want either Dire or Rabid gear with the superior rune of Undead and superior sigils of Corruption.
Do you want this for PvE or PvP?
As the title states, the Norn Ranger GS animations for the 3rd auto attack and the 4th skill’s throw GS were changed.
I’m not quite so why A-net likes changing the Norn animations so much, but this is the second time it has happened since the Norn LB animations changed to that of a human female.
Because as it stands right now, the current system requires a lot of “backtracking” to get things done. Your suggestion would make their new model more fluid.
There are 2 main sets you would look for. One is a bit more tanky, and the other has a bit more ’oomph."
The first is Sentinels (Vitality, Power, Toughness). This is the tankier one, since vitality is the dominate stat. However, do to a severely low supply of Azurite since the molten facility patch, this stat combo is currently very expensive, so I wouldn’t recommend getting it now.
The second is Soldier’s (Power, Vitality, Toughness). This is the harder hitting one since power is the dominate stat. You can find this combo off the trading post, some temple boss venders, and Honor of the Waves, Ascalon Catacombs, and I -think- Arah dungeon token venders. I’d recommend getting this set, because while tanky, at least you can contribute meaningly to whatever group you’re in and it doesn’t take nearly as long to kill things.
I think this would be a great improvement. +1
You get two weapons that you can change the stats of at any time and you’re complaining? Figures.
…You find an old shirt of yours and try to salvage it.
…You Eat a sandwich and look for a stat increase.
…You open your paycheck and realize even irl, you’re still getting nothing but greens.
…You tell your significant other to hold on a sec as you finish your dailies.
…You keep an eye out for waypoints as you travel somewhere you’ve never been.
I would join you if I wasn’t already on NSP :P
Do eeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Save silver, lose gold!
No repair cost + less loot for those who win = reward for failure!!
It’s a bad sign when a game starts to reward failure.
I wouldn’t call champ farming “winning.”
Should make it a combat tonic too, sorta like the watchknight tonic.
^ Here is my dps-y tank build (not tank-y dps) that many I give to seem to enjoy. It’s nowhere near the zerker meta that dominates right now, but it brings its own special something. While It may not bring very much group support at all, it has been known to be able to solo Subject Alpha and fractal lvl 34 Mai Trin.
Why does longbow apply vulnerability? Applying conditions is the shortbows job.
I think the LB should just be removed in favor of dual-wielding shortbows
vulnerability is a power boosting condition….
Please add the Carrion stat to ascended gear before adding more stat combos.
Thank you.
I assume you mean ascended trinkets, as you can already get Carrion ascended weapons and armour.
Yes
Tab Target
Thank goodness for it
To solve the WvW problem and levitate the server identity problem, I propose this:
Along with map, say, team, party, whisper, squad, and guild chats…
have a server chat
there, calls for help can be requested and like-minded people can voice their needs.
Please add the Carrion stat to ascended gear before adding more stat combos.
Thank you.
New and exiting feature is announced…
Forums nitpick at every possible negative detail
GG internet, GG.
Why the heck would you want to remove the merge feature? I’m confuzzled…
There is rumor something is coming in 2015.
Log out then log back in on a different character if you hate it so bad.
Log out then log back in (possibly to a different character).
Evon’s name will gone down in history as the greatest charr LA ever saw. My permanent Evon Supporter tag is proof of this.
This overrated trader? He is no true Charr.
Would you consider Yomm and “overrated trader” too? I doubt it…
My question is, will this Legendary crafting in PVP require max crafting skills or will it be doable strictly through the means of PVP? Because forced crafted (Ascended) is why I stopped playing PVE all together, I haven’t played it since…
You’re not forced to craft ascended unless you want to run high level fractals.
Still waiting for my invite :P
Question:
In
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-wardrobe-system/
It says: “Skins can be unlocked by using consumables, equipping items, salvaging equipment, or right-clicking on equipment and account-binding it.”
If item skins can be account unlocked simply by owning and right-clicking them…does this mean it is possible to purchase, say, medium order of whispers armor on an order of whispers recruited mesmer, right-click and bind them, then access the skins from a vigil recruited ranger?
Also, salvaging was on that list too. Would salvaging the item be a 100% chance to add it to your wardrobe? Or is it more along the lines of 33% since it is not being “bound” or whatever.
